I love how the Lexus gets the jump and then when the Camaro owner says he slept on the launch Sam "man 'splains" what the difference is between sleeping and spinning. No dude, you started first and he eventually caught you. Then they get an even launch and the Camaro freight trains the Lexus and it's all excuses about spinning. He didn't get a better launch, he didn't even start pulling until 2nd gear. IS500 is cool, but the Camaro is a different level.
He keeps saying that the weight was what gave the Camaro every edge but in reality I think it was more down to the transmissions in each car. The weight will have its greatest impact at the initial launch since that’s where the greatest rate of change in velocity occurs. That’s also where the Camaro had the least advantage. That may also be due to the Camaro overloading the tires with his GTA style launches. Guess he doesn’t realize you only bring the RPM up to where it loads the torque converter but applies minimal torque to the wheels when not using a trans brake, on race tires and with an unprepared surface. It was only after the first few gears where the Camaro pulled ahead since, my assumption without looking at the actual gear ratios, the 10 forward gears in the Camaro’s trans allow for closer ratios gear to gear than the Lexus’s 8 speed transmission. Wider ratios with significantly reduced torque will always hurt acceleration. Also, considering how the Lexus kept up with the Camaro at first those first couple gears in the 8spd are likely shorter which even more so widens the ratios for the remaining gears. Much like GM’s 700R4/ 4L60 transmissions were in the day. Very short first gear to aid the acceleration of their anemic 80’s engine outputs, an okay 1-2 split, and then the awful 2-3 gap that pulled any engine out of its power band.
I own a 2020 lt1, I'm not sure the ss would be slower from a roll, my stock tires have had slight tire spin during acceleration at 50mph. I will eventually put bigger tires on mine.
@@ws1807 Even with 285mm Micheline pilotspot PS4S, I still spin from roll :). Basically it will roll from 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear at any time. LT1 has less interior options, smaller brakes (part of the unsprung pass), lighter wheels, lighter tires, etc.. I am willing to bet LT1 is quicker. As long as it hooks!

Great race! But swap the tires for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s (Summer) thats what I did on my IS500 it hooks especially during summer. Thanks for the vid.
Camaro lt1 comes with shitty tires too
245 all season. I test drove one and couldn’t hook much.
Ordered the 1LE with 305s performance tires, it’s a monster
Man I just wish Lexus gave that is500 50 more horsepower and more torque
It would have been pretty easy to squeeze out 50 more horsepower more aggressive cam a better exhaust system and tune from the factory
What's the difference in price.
Not sure if the IS500 is worth the extra $25k over the Chevrolet. 😑
That's used hellcat territory. I would probably go that route if I was even remotely considering a is500. I actually think you would have about 5-10k left over for mods.
It’s a luxury car dude. The Camaro is built solely for performance whereas the Lexus IS a mixture of luxury, practicality, reliability, and sport.
Camaro is a killer for the money, sounds unbelievable! Hey power to weight ratio shows in the results. As slick as the IS500 is, the Camaro took home the Homecoming Queen.
Agreed
But the mustang is better value and has a engine with more tuning capability..
@@roboticvenom1935that’s actually false. Camaro has one of the best tuning engines
@@BlackPanther1SS the mustang's injection system is superior to the Camaro and makes it more flexible and potent. You can get a higher gain of HP and TQ by doing bolt ons and tunes on a mustang and Camaro, period
As far as cams, lifters, rods and more serious modifications that just goes back and forth and becomes more subjective.
@@roboticvenom1935 Camaros already come off the top with more torque than mustangs. You can easily get over 750 hp with simple upgrades. Mustangs have a lot of engine issues after certain mods. They lack torque
If I just want a new V8 sedan, and I'm not looking to race or anything, is the IS500 worth going for? The Charger seems like the only other option unless you have an over $100K budget.
If speed and sound are not interesting to you, go with the IS500. Otherwise a charger is the way to go
@@SamCarLegion Thanks. Sounds like I should call the Dodge dealer then.
@@stingrayl82 You can get the IS500 to sound as good or better than the charger with aftermarket exhaust, but with the SCAT Pack you will edge out the Lexus on Power.
@@SamCarLegion you forgot to mention that the lexus will outlast that shitty dodge with its cylinder deactivation and lack of port injection for years to come.
@@RedHuntsman yeah - never 😂
lighter.. also less horsepower. LT1.. LS and LT's .. beasts. Seen the IS in person.. Very very nice car. Put together very nicely.
Nice Sam, that Lexus is still fast as heck !
Not bad
It's a $60k car I'd expect it to be somewhat fast.
Is500 weight rating is killing it performance 🎭 on other hand the Camaro LT1 has advantages by weight and tq...still nice race 🏁 👍 👌
Yea, Just brought one. 2SS A10-VOM.
Sam , how about this Camaro SS vs Mustang GT 10 speed? 👌
It's almost dead even with the Mustang being a tick quicker
Finally a camaro on the channel
I think he should have got the SS or 2SS camaro for the extra tech, leather, and safety features, but if the extra money wasn't there the LT1 was still a good pick up.
That Camaro sounds better than any Mustang out there.
I’m a mustang guy and I totally agree
In general, I do not like American cars, I lean toward the Germans and the Japanese…but man all those American V8s sound incredible. Major props. I absolutely hate about 80% of the IS500 though, especially the sound of its V8. Just my opinion though.
I had a 2017 ss pretty sure it was a ISF got him from dig but around 60 he was walking me all I could do was watch lol the ss was still a fun car but traded it for a new zl1
IS F has great top end
Lexus doesn't give a sh*t about luxury performance sedans. Thats the reason the IS500 is such a huge disappointment. They put no effort at all in this car.
For almost 6 figures I'd expect you to beat an SS. If you went up to a ZL1 which is more in that price range these races would be nasty.
As much as I love the Lexus and the IS500, it should've been faster. And lighter.
Also, if it's not too late Sam can you run it against an IS F ?
Will do
Wow, the Lexus sounded amazing. Was not expecting that. Perfect car.
Are you sure lol
@@SamCarLegion At least by sound of the video - yes, I am. The Camaro sound is great as well, but it was expected. By your comment I understand in real life you are not sufficed with the Lexus voice, but hey - I never owned loud car and having a practical and beautiful car as the lexus will be just perfect for me.
I guess we all have different levels of expectations
Yeah, but the Lexus Is a much better built car.
I really want to see my 2015 buick regal gs on this channel ...mine has a muffler delete.....its quicker than the specs
I've owned a whole lot of badass V8s in my life, but nothing sounds as good 'stock' as a 6.2 LT1 in the Camaro. Just my opinion.
Id argue the Coyote is just as good from the factory with the Active Exhaust.
@@BennyZ88 excellent engine as well. Valid argument/debate. Just different strokes for different folks.
Reving your Is 500 up against the rev limiter at idle is really not good for the motor
How exactly does one hit the rev limiter at idle? 🤔
I want to see that Camaro against a Z,m240 and s3/rs3
Chevy may not build quality products anymore but they definitely know how to build a powerful V8.
Don’t think they ever did 💀
Their products are better quality than they were a decade ago or two decades ago
@Corrie Elieff true
@Corrie Elieff dodge and Chevy are not more reliable than Toyota or Lexus
@@Griffith861 yes they are
Man it really sucks that GM is ending production on the Comaro. If they would keep producing them, I would be very tempted on copping one.
I have been a Camaro owner since the 90s but the 5th and 6th gen haven’t even tempted me to buy one. They can generate great performance numbers but every time I drive one I just walk away dissatisfied. Huge misstep given the Mustang started off with a lesser offering (3V 4.6L) in the beginning of all of this and still managed to kill the Camaro off again.
They'll continue making them until 2024.
@@GoDsSoN770 I just wonder if that will effect the resale value of the Comaro in a negative way when they end production?
@@S8ER I totally disagree, the SS 1LE and the ZL1 are super fast, and one of the more engaging driver centric cars on sale today
@@GERONIMO326 the rest of the car isn’t enough for me to give the ZL1 a chance…. I think the sales numbers reflect that I’m not alone here. These are not expensive cars and they still aren’t selling. 🤷.
The last Camaro I walked away from impressed (I have not driven a ZL1 fwiw) was the 2014 Z28 and unfortunately it was just too track focused for me to consider owning as a daily driver (not to mention I still don’t love the look).
You need to either update your cameras or color correct when editing. There’s such a yellow tint on everything
Need to buy rr racing headers intake tune and exhaust open up that Lexus v8
That Camaro took that Lexus straight to GappleBees for a little dinner. See? Such a brute, yet always a gentleman 🤗
You can't even hear the Toyota at the launch just the LT1 screaming!
I just got the same LT1 Camaro. It comes with crappy 245 Goodyear all season runflats . If you put on better rubber it would be even faster !
Wow those lexus are slow, great video.
Camaro 💪🏻; would readily take a Cadillac V over that Lexus as well.
Camaros do not last long. Junk.
@@4nlover635 We can buy another new car after it breaks down using the same amount of money in total with the Lexus.
Lexus sounds better and is definitely way more reliable
Mmm.. he literally said he had problems with the Lexus. Toyota is not what it used to be. I also had major issues with a new corolla.

Or
I love American Muscle but that exhaust note from the Lexus is just 😤
You didn't sell your Lexus?
I did old videos
Good race Sam. I thought it would be a little closer, but it seems the Lexus transmission holds it back.
Yeah, Lexus really should have used a dual clutch transmission.. what where they thinking!? 🤦🏾♂️
Dual clutch? You goofy 😂

6th gen Camaro is so underrated. That Alpha platform with awesome stock suspension, excellent 10 speed Auto and to top it off the fantastic LT1 engine. American muscle baby, to each his own though. I care about the chassis and engine, some care more about luxury and comfort.
What I expected to happen, LT1 and 10L80 are a good combination, throw a drag pac, some bolt ons, E85 tuned by somebody that knows what they’re doing and they can take Hellcats out. That Lexus IS a gorgeous car though, I’d daily drive the hell out of it and buy an LT1 to mod.
Literally can’t wait to install my fbo E85 parts and get tuned, then I’m going hellcat hunting for sure
@@zonamade3380 nice, good luck man have fun!
Best motoring did a test between the C7 Z51 against the LC500 on their usual togue track, and the C7 demolished it

Try putting them on a track/circuit 😉
Fun fact. A Camaro SS with 275mm summer tires would have launched way harder from the dig. But a bit slower from roll, due to added weight.
Lexus is too pricey for what it is. Interior is not much nicer than a toyota but they charge so much premium for it.
A dig race from 30 mph would have been an even bigger gap !
