I will start by saying that I can't say enough great things about the Duro...Fantastic watch and unbelievable bang for the $$$. I do own more expensive dive watches, but always come back to my duro...currently on my 2nd in 5 years cause 1st one was stolen. I don't keep my watches as show pieces and wear/use them all at work, play, and leisure. I work on a farm and my duro has seen it all and can honestly say it is tuff as nails ( wonder if casio has built it as a G-shock without branding so because it is a dive watch) I wear mine with pride and will continue to own & recomend them as long as casio makes them. Well done review 👍
I know riiiight... 😁 I got mine preloved witha James Bond Nato... All for less than 50 bucks... N... The more I wear it... The more I wanna wear it... 😍
Excellent production and videography! However, you reviewed this phenomenal watch as if it cost $150 or more. I paid $45 US and don’t care that it lacks a “signed” crown, has an aluminum bezel, mineral crystal or a more expensive strap. It’s an absolute steal for the money. The build quality is amazing for the price! I love the strap...very pliable. Battery lasts for 3 years, screw down back vs press-on (Timex). The second hand hits every marker dead on and is accurate to approx15 sec/month. My bezel moves perfectly and lines up exactly. I only wish it was a bit smaller in diameter. Enough said...buy it!
I now have 3 Duros-the original black-dialed model, the black-and-gold and the blue..they’re well-built, very legible and comfortable to wear, and they look great!!
I heard people complaining about the band and was prepared to replace it. When I put it on zi was stunned at how comfortable it is. Not only am I not replacing the strap but I will replace it with like if it ever fails. I have many watches and this is one of the very cheapest, and Im very happy with it. When I heard the new ones were missing the fish logo I bought one right away. My fish! Mine.
Alexander The Great had his chemists treat scraps of cloth with a chemical that changed color as the heat of the day increased. His generals wore these on their arm, and the movement and activities of armies separated by long distances could be better timed and coordinated. This was the precursor of the modern wristwatch and played a role in at least some of Alexander's military victories. The device was known as Alexander's rag time-band.
Absolutey great review! Covered all the important points. I loved how you framed it. Perfectly on point! Loved the macro shot. Keep up the work man! Good going!
Had my Duro for three years now, love the watch. So far it seems to gain about 3 seconds a year. I do wish you could pay a little more and get the sapphire crystal already installed. They do sell an aftermarket sapphire crystal for I think around $20 but on the other hand, you can just go out and buy another watch lol So far, I haven't scratched my crystal yet but if you are tough on the watch, it might scratch, minor detail, anyway, go buy one for yourself, there is a reason the Duro is one of the most sold watches in the world, I have a Submariner but those Rolex dealers charged me over $600 for service the last time I sent it in for a full service plus those assholes replace my dial face without telling me, that was not fair, it ruined the resell value I am told. Buy a Duro, you will love it. Rick from Abilene Texas.
Such a solid watch. Casio quality, its own unique identity as "the marlin", the second hand hits its mark, battery life is decent and changing it takes less than 5 minutes, looks great on any strap.
I am so happy I bought this, nice affordable addition to my modest collection. I only hate the way casio makes the straps. For small wrists it looks weird as the keeper can go till the end of the strap due to this weird ridging the made.
not too attractive at first, but, i think that could be a positive. simplicity is the turtle that wins the race against the hare. fancier, for me, gets looked at more at first and fades pretty quickly. rolexes in the very early days were simply tool watches, without the absolutely rediculous markups of today. there success is in small degree owes to keeping them simple--the best being starkly simple. this watch, like so many others, is born of the rolex design--which has proven to be one of the most sought after of all time. great detailed review...
I've wanted one for a while. One day at Walmart they had some. Timex on sale for 10 each and next to them was a duro with a green bezel, no box or tags. Talked them into selling it for 10. I almost ran out of the store. New leather band. It's great.
I think I saw elsewhere that this is ISO certified for diving? If so this would distinguish it from those non-certified "dive-style" watches that cost far more. This would be an important detail, and you are obviously a detailed reviewer! Thanks for another good review.
I have 6 or 7 of these in different colors but if Casio should make it in the 40mm size, I would purchase another 3 or 4 more. I love the unfussy design.
I’ve been thinking about buying a second marlin to do mods on I think the first mod I would like to try and do will be a sapphire crystal from AliExpress I have a James Bond NATO on order
I have the Rolex submariner Starbucks and enjoy getting beaters. I picked it up for Black Friday 11/2024. It looks great. I have two Pagani watches which do the work as well but haven’t had a Casio in years and felt I had to go back to the old days with a great looking Casio.
I have found it very accurate only gaining 1-3 secs per week. Your strap slide will keep the end down. Nice in depth look at this fantastic bargain for the $ watch. I think I paid $48 off of Amazon.
I can't stop wondering why I spend a lot of money on swiss mechanical divers after buying a Casio Duro in blue. Just swap the mineral with a Sapphire and the strap if you don't like it, I think it is a decent strap though. Best diver watch at this price mark, even better than much more expensive ones, and the bezel is pretty decent too. I am buying a second one in black.
I bought a sapphire crystal for mine and the it is just a matter of unscrewing the back, removing the crown and then lifting out the module. Then just use a watch press to press out the crystal and press the new one in. Then reverse the procedure. About a 15 minute job.
I’ve just bought one of these; brand new, delivered from USA to UK £45! Looks and feels great, although I swapped the strap before wearing it. Intention was to hydro-mod but now I’m not so sure...
Great review! I own watches of varying degree, and I must say the blue Marlin Duro is probably my favorite. I honestly can’t say why, but I just love it.
The indices are stamped, not applied. I saw a video just recently with a teardown for an oil fill mod which showed the back of the dial. Still, I love mine stamped or not.
I just picked up the "gold" version in the US, from Amazon for $40 USD. I didn't care for the rubber strap,, so I replaced it with a classic "bond" NATO strap. I didn't care for the third hold down on the NATO strap, so I cut it off, converting the strap to a single pass through strap.....I have a 7-5/8" wrist, so this 44mm case works well with me.
I have a Casio Duro and I love using dive watches in the kitchen. It’s easy to forget when you put something in the oven or on the stove, so I use the bezel to see when I started something.
Markers on dial are printed/pressed, not applied, but nevertheless the Marlin logo just nails it. the whole package - amazing. Also, much better quality of the dial on the newer MDV-107 model, but no Marlin logo :/. Cheers!
I have one in black , it's my beater work watch when I say beater I work on deck of offshore construction vessels it doesn't have scratches on the face it has gouges and two cracks, I have a gold one and just ordered a green one no complaints from me very easy to read face
I have a few of these watches different colors I love my think it's great they remind me of a wash that the military would give you no frills just as a job very plain basic Also mineral glasses better than sapphire glass because of fire glass on the water which shatter if you're not a 200 mineral glass which is cracked still be able to save the water just have it glass replaced.
I looked around on Ali express I have a large hand and wrist my wrist is about 8 1/4 to 8 1/2 inches or so The Duro stock band actually fits my wrist on the second hole 🕳.I got my Pepsi version Duro /marlin free on Amazon for opening up a prime 💳card.I thought that was a pretty good deal however,,, I have looked at AliExpress I would like to get a large black bay 58 and or possibly a submariner knock off. I understand the bands are no good but you can always get a strap for them,,,does anyone have any experience with these types of watches from Ali express??? are they worth anything at all with the Seiko movement that’s offered for a slightly more money$$$ or are they just junk and should be avoided???and what about the Bulova lunar pilot??? anyone have any experience with those??? are they worth it???
2 years later and now i got 2 duro's, i want to get another one but i don't want the green or the pepsi bezel i wish they would come up with a red or orange bezel and dial
The amount of watches that I buy...20 percent UK import tax is killing me 😅. I might just buy this watch to see what the fuss is about. Thanks for the review 👍
Great review, i love the watch but got it scratched very easily. The mineral glass needs attention. Afraid replacing it with sapphire glass because im not sure if it remains the 20 atm capability...
For a few, a watch is an everyday tool with the main purpose of accurately and reliably displaying the time. This quartz watch is a timepiece that fills that purpose nicely with tasteful good looks. One fault: The lume is minimalist, and I would gladly pay half again as much if it were more generous. Appropriately strapped it has the flexibility to be appropriately worn as a daily beater, for business, for dress, or as an actual diver. The herds of proud owners of beautiful jewelry showpieces (with mechanical movements that lose or gain minutes every month, cost hundreds or thousands of $ to purchase, hundreds of $ more for each scheduled maintenance, and which must be handled with cotton gloves to be reviewed properly) will be forced to ask you for the "correct" time. When it comes to jewelry showpieces, beauty, fit, and finish are the holy grail, and the accuracy of the timepiece is virtually irrelevant. Spock would find that "interesting". I find it amusing.
What do you mean the band broke?? What part of the band? I can't see what you are referring to from the video. I have the Duro and it TRULY is the best watch you can get at such a low price. You can EASILY trim down the length of the band with a pair of scissors.
Best value on the dive watch market, how do they do it? all SS case , 200M , screw down CROWN, have 2 myself, one on NATO the other put on an oyster style bracelet CASIO signed clasp , harvested off a diff. model, nice poorman's sub, nicer though because not a clone, no cyclops, no mercedes hands thats a plus , has its own identity , 44mm but wears smaller because its case is relatively thin maybe 10 to 12 mm max. small wrists doesnt look oversized wears like a 42mm, DUROs / MARLINs rarely fail in any regard, very durable look like new after 5 years or more of regular wear. collect divers vtg heuers, 1000s/ 2000s seikos , etc. but these casios hold theier own as a weekender or everyday watch, note though stock blk rubber dive strap is cheap and uncomfortable , replace immediately if possible, ZULUs are a nice choice if you want to keep it flat and thin. Give it a 6 outta 10 because its quartz wish theyed offer an AUTO> for $80 - $100 USD . HIGHLY RECOMMEND the CASIO MARLIN/ DURO to every dive watch collector regardless of means or budget.
I would think long and hard before I buy mechanical watch/automatic. I wanted to try one that would last a long time but I didn’t have a lot of money so I bought a Vostok Amphibian,,,For the money Vostok is hard to beat if you want a mechanical automatic watch with a jeweled movement and a metal bracelet bracelet is not that great however it works you may have to do a little metal polishing on the bracelet as some of the edges are extremely sharp. All this aside it is a true mechanical/automatic watch and it does what it’s supposed to do estimated to last at least 10 years however after the newness wears off after the novelty wears off it’s kind of a pain in the a$$ to have to screw with the watch all the time I can pick up my Marlin Quartz it doesn’t need anything except the date adjusted once in a while that’s convenient,,, most of the time I just don’t have the time or patience to sit there and shake a watch or wind it or constantly adjust it. These Marlins work great and they are very sexy Eye 🍬🍬🍭🍭🍬🍬
Both Amazon US and UK specs have the band width shown as 20MM, not 22. Am I mistaken or do I understand it correctly that the "band width" and lug width are same thing?
Lug width is 22mm. The strap immediately flares out to 25mm. At its short end it’s 20mm. So if it is being used with new straps like the nylon ones then you choose 22mm.
The marlin logo is going away in 2021. The marlin faces and etchings will be relics in no time, so get them while you can! Just One More Watch did a video on it
Got mine recently going for $60-$75 CAN....I got it right in the middle. NATO Band from Haveston.com(THE OLIVE DRAB NO.7 PARADE STRAP). And I have to say that I'm very impressed with the quality/bang for the buck. Had many other watches in this price range, and even hitting the $100 + mark, that are nowhere near as good. New models will lose the Marlin, so if you want the Marlin get one now.
Great video review sir. It does have its faults but they are so minor they are truly forgivable. Perhaps too big for some although it fits me well (7.25 inch wrist), and the rubber strap is supple and never irritates. I use it for holidays as it’s great for around the pool or beach, plus as a grab and go it really is perfect. A daily beater makes it sound like you would not care if it got the odd scratch, but I would because it really is very nice. Been honest it’s SO much better than I ever thought it would be, having never tried one before it landed from Amazon. In summary it’s very good and for the money, excellent value. 😁
Why do people call the Duro "marlin"? That's obviously not a Marlin. It's a sailfish. The Marlin's dorsal fin peaks just above its head and tapers down drastically from there. The sailfish is what's portrayed on the front and back of the Duro. Don't take my word for it, just search "marlin vs sailfish" and find out for yourself.
I have 4 divers in the US$300 range. The Casio Duro is functionally as good or better than any of them. All for about $50. Now available in blue!
You should try the Invicta!
Nice sales add! I share the same thoughts. Invicta is good- Don't trust anything about them but the movement however.😊
blue is so beautiful

I just got the gold version. My wife said it looks very classy.
If you combine a Duro with a Rolex you end up with a Durex .

Thanks!
Great watch review Mate. I like your perspective on the watch, given the cost. I think you pretty much nailed it.

Phil C yup, can’t go wrong with it!
I'm thinking about getting one and putting a steal rice bracelet on it.
Ordered one today because of your review. May I ask which strap you use ?
These Marlins work great and they are very sexy Eye 🍬🍬🍭🍭🍬🍬
nowadays we can get chinese made homage watch with japanese automatic movement and saphire crystal for similar price
Quit buying Chinese shit
Michael You should try the Invicta right away I just bought a Grand Diver new for around what the Casio Duros are selling for new!
I wear mine on a (all black) Luminox hook and loop nylon strap, Looks great!
That didn't come out exactly like I wanted to but you get the idea.
The marlin logo is going away in 2021. The marlin faces and etchings will be relics in no time, so get them while you can! Just One More Watch did a video on it
Already bought one
Already bought 2
I love my Duro and the original strap, not keen on the sun burst dial... if it wasn't for that it would be perfect
I put a cyclops on mine and have had more that a few people ask me if it was a Rolex. I keep my Sub at home an wear it only occasionally.
I just bought two of these for 13 dollars each. They are being cleared out of Walmart now.
What is the case made out of , what material ?
I have a 6.2 inch wrist...will it be too large for me?
just wish it was smaller
I like my Invicta Pro Diver.
Same here.

I'd say the Invicta Pro diver is a better buy than the Duro, IMO. And they are roughly the same price
Markers are not applied but rather stamped in from the back....
if they made a 40 mm I would buy another one!
The watch markers do not glow in dark? Why everyone is saying they have LUME?
I managed to find a Duro in Walmart on sale for $15, and promptly told my brother to pick one up!
You should have picked one up for him
Got mine recently going for $60-$75 CAN....I got it right in the middle.
Mark Playford thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience!
Also, can you recommend me a watch with this same reliability but solar?
I think the Seiko Solar range should be pretty good. I have one and it’s going well.
