Barry, parboiling sprouts isn’t necessary, I hated them til I tried roasting them. Peel & halve them, coat them in an emulsion of olive oil and maple syrup (how much is based on how many sprouts. 2 pounds of sprouts requires 3 tablespoons of oil & 2 tablespoons of maple syrup) place just the coated sprouts (not any residual oil & syrup) on a baking sheet, sprinkle with salt and pepper and roast at 450 degree oven (the temp one usually roasts a potato at) for 30 or so minutes or until caramelized & you can insert a paring knife in easily. I start checking them at 25 minutes, sometimes it can take 40 minutes. My kids love them
I’ve never had or used an air fryer. Got one this Christmas, unpacked and prepped it Christmas Eve. Watched a few UA-cam videos and we cooked the whole Christmas dinner using it. It was quick and easy. There was very little washing up and that was done while the meal was being plated up. The meal was delicious and the ALDI Turkey crown was moist and tender. Only cutlery and plates to wash afterwards. We had one of the most relaxed Christmas days ever.
I think mine was more relaxed. TBF. I didn't spend a penny and visited friends and walked away stuffed having not spent a penny or moved a finger. I've done enough Christmases in my time, now I sit back and let everyone else do it.
Thanks Barry! At the moment, I’ve gone back to school pretty far from home and my dorm only has two hobs, and you can bring some kitchen appliances. I’ve got a kettle and an air fryer. No microwave, no oven! So videos like this help a lot. :)

I love our air fryer, it looks like a little oven, though it's not the kind that you were using. It saves a lot of electricity and time. Also, I always microwave potatoes and veggies that take longer to soften, for 10 to 12 mins in a bowl covered in water before air frying. For weeknights, there is no more switching on the oven in our house. 😛
That looks bloody lovely, Barry. I do think that a quarter of that turkey roll (brilliant idea, BTW), would be fine for one person, especially with all the veg, and PIB, etc. It'd be perfect for me - as I've got older, I actually find eating big meals a bit of a chore, to be honest. But what you have created here is bang on. Tidy. You and your family have a good one. 👍👍👍
Last year I made a "Turkey Wellington", with cranberry in the middle, then turkey pounded flat, wrapped in bacon, then stuffing as the duxelles, then all wrapped in puff pastry. It came out stonking, if huge. :D
Thankyou for helping make my Christmas dinner special, because I'm cooking mine and Alaska my dog our dinner in a Tower air fryer come dehydrator, Cheers mate, merry Christmas 🎉🎉❤
Barry this is an absolute triumph! It looks amazing as well. I will say, air fried brussels are amazing just halved raw, tossed in a little olive oil, salt, pepper, paprika and garlic and chucked straight in the AF- no par-boiling required. So good.
A recommendation: If you want to gently warm a sauce in the air fryer, put the sauce into a small stainless steel bowl that is tightly covered with aluminium foil. It's a LOT less messy to clean up after.
Fun experiment and inspiring too. I want to try at least some of this for Christmas. I'd leave the tasty bits from the meat and veg in the fryer to flavor the gravy.
Just bought my second air fryer! Wore the other one out, and I freakn' love it. Sprouts are absolutely awesome from the air fryer. Thanks heaps for the video and happy holidays to you and the fam. Greetz from Newcastle Australia. 💜
Seriously I think this was genius!! Such a good idea when making a big holiday meal would be far too much food and work. It could easily be an anytime meal (maybe scale back the items);) but in that amount of time you could have a special meal and leftovers. Great great video. I’m actually going to do the meat using chicken and roast the veggies for dinner. Thank you once again for inspiring all of us to try something new.
Many people think sprouts are not tasty because years ago when most of us were kids, they weren’t very tasty. Nowadays they’ve been grown to be a lot less sour and much more tasty. So if you haven’t eaten a sprout since you were a kid, may be worth trying one this Christmas and giving them another chance. Also we know how to cook them properly, as years ago they were just boiled until they were mostly water!
I believe you are right. I have not yet recovered from the trauma of watery, overcooked sprouts from my youth. I do believe that roasting them are the way to make them good. Maybe I'll get myself an airfryer next year and try that.
@@anndownsouth5070 I like to halve them, steam them to just cooked and then fry with chestnuts and spices. You get that crispy char on the outside, crunch on the inside and mixture of flavours. Amazing

Well done! I've had a cheap one for 3 years and bought a Phillips one last Christmas. Meat and fish gets cooked in the older one with veg and 'clean', less fatty foods in the newer one. I only use the oven for cakes and big roasts these days.
I'd name it friar tuck, I always hated the thought of sprouts untill I got a part time job on the produce section of a supermarket when I was 18. I'm 37 now & love them!! Sad I missed out on my first 18yrs without them😂
The first time I had sprouts was at a buffet and they were boiled. I just added a touch of vinegar as they reminded me of cabbage. The next time I had them they were roasted with a nice char. Simply lovely as is.

My parents got me an airfryer as an early Christmas gift, and oh boy do I love it. Some things come out way better then when I did them differently (chicken breast, chicken legs, chips, ham and cheese toastie...)
About water in an air fryer, try those little 10-14cm lidded ramakins, I use them for making mini casseroles for one person in the air fryer. 20mins is fine and then I left for another 40minutes for flavours to infuse and for the actual ceramic to cool down so I can get it out with my fingers
looks delish barry! i think parboiling the veg wasnt even necessary. cut up the veg small enough and bake them for long enough and they get nice and crispy and fully baked all the way through, like the potatoes are crispy and golden brown on the outside but fluffy and soft on the inside!
Have you tried roasted sprouts all you have to do to make them is half them put them on a baking tray and sprinkle with salt and add olive oil thank put them in the oven for 30-40 minutes depending how crispy you want them
When wrapping things like your turkey log in bacon, try basket weaving the bacon, alternate the strips up and down and left and right, makes for a better seal...... I'll wait for you to finish making the noise....and it looks great, especially if you glaze it with honey or BBQ sauce
