    I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on this amp and this video answered many of the questions I had, now that we can't just go to our neighborhood music store and annoy the guys working there. The biggest was 'can I use this live?' and I think this pushed me closer to my purchase choice. The mic issue isn't an issue as I mic it w/a '57 anyway. The things you didn't like about it are not a problem for me as I'm just an old-school player that doesn't want to work out just to get my rig on stage. 22 lbs is perfect for this old dude's back! Thank you for the in-depth review. I'm subscribing!

    Great review. Thanks, I just bought this amp for home. I have been a tube-snob…I own and have been playing Mesa Boogies, multiple Fender tubers, Peveys and a matchless. But the convenience of this is awesome. Tones are great as well to my ears. The best two features are Bluetooth and the patches you can create or download…the xlr is right up there.

      How do you feel about the high gain sounds from it? I was hoping to get a heavy sound in the ballpark of a Dual Rectifier. I don't expect it to be exact just sound good with a beefy bottom end and not sound digital or fake.

    • @onolicious9147
      @onolicious9147 Рік тому +1

      @@draglinedrummer Sounds waaay too thin compared to a Dual Rectifier. It just doesn’t imitate that lushness of sound. In actuality, the solid-state is good for at home and small gigs. The medium tones. The truly thick or the sparkling tones…it really doesn’t compare but it has tons of useful tone otherwise that is satisfying to the ear.

    this is on my list. I only play at home and always ampless cause i have neighbors. Plus my current amp is mainly only good for like hard rock and metal and it's unusably loud. I want to play mostly clean so i chose entirely the wrong amp but that was years ago and i was very green. So knowing this is so good on cleans and my slant towards fender amp sounds means this is right up my alley. And as a novice when i do want to learn more music with distortion this seems to be good enough to satisfy the novice that's not ever going to be trying to play in a band or need to impress someone with how close i am to, say, the brown sound or something. Like it it kinda sounds brown i'd be like "awesome! Panama!!!!"

    Nice video. I just picked up the GTX 50 as a starter/practice amp and absolutely love it. I should just sprung for the GTX 100 as it comes with the foot pedal that I now wish I had. I will definitely be adding it soon. The app is really cool. You can download and save new tones as presets, just wish there were more open slots. I find myself deleting some every day to try out a new tone. Overall it's a great amp and has quality controls and awesome sound. I do not regret my purchase one bit.

      The cost difference between the 50 & 100 is about $100. The foot switch works on both. 50 watts is plenty for me in gigging. The peddle works the same for both amps. The 100 watt is about $100 bucks more then the 50 watt. And the 100 comes with the switch box. But you can find in 7 switch box on Amazon for about $90. SWEETWATER and other music stores is about $100. Personally I think the 100 watt is a bit much on the one 12 inch speaker. The 50watt is not. Also using another speaker cabinet gives even more fatter tones.

    Just bought one, need to set global EQ, I think it is too metallic sounding using default FLAT EQ, I settled on LOW CUT II and this thing sounds amazing! I had to do same thing on GT40 but BRIGHT sounded best (it had a muffled boxy tone but sounded great after adjusting EQ). The GTX solved the boxy sound but too brassy and high end out of the box, slight adjustment and it is incredible. I spent a couple hours just changing the cabinets on some settings - amazing modeling detail in this amp!

      I have the Katana MKII 50. I think it is a good amp, but I do not care for the distortion tones at all... The cleans are pretty good. I am going to get this amp, still debating on the 100 or 50 though. As for genres I play and like they are mostly atmospheric black metal, some stoner/doom, post rock, and bands like Agalloch. I really like the band The Sword and trying to get a good fuzz tone like they use on the Katana 50 is hard. I cannot find a good one. The demos I have seen on this Fender look very promising for the tones I am going for. Hope this helped you out some :)

      I'm also on the fence about 100W vs 50W. I'm only going to use it at home, and while I like the bigger 'cabinet' of the 100W version + the included footswitch, I'm worried that 100W is simply too much at home. I have a 15W tube amp now, which is already plenty of power, but I don't know how that compares to a 100W digital amp. Anyone with the GTX 100W that can comment on how it sounds at low volume, like volume at 1, 2 or 3? Something tube snobs don't understand: with sufficient attention to detail, it is possible to *exactly* duplicate the characteristics of any other amp: tube, transistor, or fairy dust. Do the GTX's achieve this? All I can say is that I'm very happy with my GTX50. And don't forget: all the claimed subtleties (real or imagined) of this or that boutique amp are *totally* lost on the lay audiences we play for. (In the hi-fi world, it was proven many years ago that the claimed differences with any super-high-end amp are due to small variations in frequency response, easily duplicated in any garden variety circuit, should you want to take the trouble.)
