    When I bought my first guitar and amp in 35 years I couldn't decide on what amp. I went for the GTX because I wanted to try them all, learn more about amp tones and effects before deciding on what tube amp to buy. The ability to experiment without breaking the bank is the biggest perk of the GTX. That said, as a relative beginner, the options are so plentiful you can overwhelm yourself if you don't initially settle on a handful of amp models and settings. After a few months I'm now all over the place, trying anything and everything. Now that I have a handle on what I like. At the moment I'm leaning towards an Orange tube amp and cabinet - but I'm in no hurry. The GTX is all I need for now.

      cleagy meen it’s great. I got the 100 as it came with the foot-switch, and the 50 watt amp doesnt and it would cost the same amount as the 100 if I bought the foot switch on top of the amp! The 100 is very loud and I only play it at 1/4 of the way! I recommend the amp it has tons of fx and good amp sims! I was all in for the 100 because of the footswitch and price! The 100 is loud and I play in my room. I would be better suited to the 50 watt but if you get the foot switch on top it costs the same as the 100!

      Have you had any issues with the Tone app? I find it a bit wonky. I'll open a custom preset I created and find a dozen pedals attached that I didn't apply to the setting. The Bluetooth also disconnects from time to time.

  • @shanewalton8888
    @shanewalton8888 3 роки тому +34

    I had the previous version. It worked great. Too many old boomers were hating on it though. Still it was too loud. Needs a 0.5 watt option like the Katana

    • @cgripp256
      @cgripp256 3 роки тому +5

      Why? You just turn the master volume down. It basically has a 0-100 attenuator.

    • @shanewalton8888
      @shanewalton8888 3 роки тому +1

      @@cgripp256 It tried that and it doesn't work well. I played one in a 2000 seat venue, barely had the Master Volume a third of the way up, and people were saying it was too loud. One problem is the patches in the amp all come with various volume settings, so you go to one patch, have to turn the Master up to hear it, then go to another patch and break everyone's eardrums because you didn't turn the master down in time. I guess you could go on you phone and make every single patch the same volume, but who has the time to do all that?

    • @cgripp256
      @cgripp256 3 роки тому +10

      @@shanewalton8888 Well I’m not sure what venue you play in or how cramped they pack it but I run my GTX at about 1/3 to 1/2 volume during practice with a full band in a 15x30 room. And that is usually perfect. I can’t imagine it being too loud for a venue that seats 2000 people.
      As for volume balancing each patch, I mean that’s just a part of any modeling rig. It has to be done to address the difference in amp and fx gain and levels from one patch to another.
      Functionally though the master does the job you commented on originally. The fact you can’t be bothered to set up your patches isn’t really a deficiency of the amp.

      The Katana requires an atenuator due to the power amp design, the volume effects the tone. On the GTX the volume does not effect the tone so no atenuator is required.

    For someone who isn't a gear fetishist or lives and dies on the hill of the pure tube amp sound with $5,000 of boutique pedals, it's pretty much ideal. You can click between classic Sabbath, Huey Lewis & the News and Chic with minimal messing around. It's a rad amp for the casual player.

    • @ChrisFreyLive
      @ChrisFreyLive 6 місяців тому

      Yes, the GTX has an FX loop on the back (send & receive). It is the last position in the signal chain, which is great. Because you can add your drum machine or/and your own looper. What ever you record, loop or drum-machine play does not get altered by changing sounds. This means you can keep looping/drumming clean while playing over with your guitar with whatever tone effects.

      I doubt it's a good combination. You can of course use a clean channel without any onboard effects and then try the pedalboard but it's not what this amp was designed for. But then again, who knows? It might sound great.

    • @CedricSatterfield

      There is an amp setting in there that is just a clean tube preamp with no effects or coloration. You can do that and run your pedalboard into the front and then EQ it again with the GTX for final tweaks, or just punch it into the power amp throgh the effect return.

His buddy has a Boss 50, his buddy can power the watts down on his boss so they can practice in my garage not shake the walls down. My son says if he turns his Fender GTX50 down with the volume all the settings change and it sounds like crap. Is there a way to throttle this bad boy. Any advice, obviously, he saved up a long time for this thing and I'm hoping he got the right thing.

      I’m no expert but I have the Boss Katana 100 mkii and the GTX50 and after watching loads of videos I think the adjustments are similar. He needs to play with the amp volume and master volumes. There are differing opinions so it’s adjusting to tonal desire. Some people say that the amp volume should be cranked and the master volume used to attain desired loudness. I don’t play with a band so I don’t really know. Good luck. The amp is excellent. It is no better or worse than the Katana. They are excellent, just different.

      From most demos I've seen of the home use modelling amps the Katana seems to have the best high gain distortion sounds. However, I think this strength is offset by the real lack of simple usability. Aside from no screen and as impressive as Boss tone studio is, not everyone wants to get out their laptop at the same time. And for the Katana there is not an official phone app that is a neater alternative to firing up a laptop.

      The spark is shit. Not only do all of the distorted tones sound muddy and like they're all dead inside but most of the other functions like the play along tab thing is never right, the drummer AI is always off and PGs customer service is the worst in the industry

      I bought a spark and can tell you that it sounds awful to me except for a few amp models. Most of them sound like a wet blanket is laying over the speakers. I hate it because I wanted it to be good, but just wasn’t happening. I am looking at this Fender now and hopeful it would be much better. The search goes on.

    The amp sounds so thin and scratchy. I have the 50w and liked it when I first got it because I hadn't played a guitar in 10 years. At first, I loved the sound but after months of practicing and listening to pros and their amps, I've regained my ability to discern between digital and tube sounds. And I can totally hear the difference now and that bothers me. I wonder if I could run the amp through a tube amplifier to gain more warmth because the presets are truly awesome.

    • @omorganstudios
      @omorganstudios 2 роки тому

      1. Try and get the "real stuff" actual amp and pedals of your favorite preset.
      2. Headphone out to Tube Amp in, set tube controls straight-up 12 o'clock for flat sound RABBIT hole - tweaking this foundation to get your sound, headphone out may be too hot, presets already have a "cabinet model" built-in.

    Not Good at all. Purchased it and tried about 1 week. Absolutely buggy bluetooth. Just does not work. When you switch betwenn the sounds or try to run through the backstage it just hang up until switched on/off. Last drop for me was guitar disconection caused by bluetooth. Sent back to the Seller. Just computer toy. Purchased boss then. Satisfied. Not such flexible bluetooth but works. Can not advise GTX50 just due to the bluetooth issues. Sound is good. Ideas inside of the software are good too. But it simply does not work well for me. And it looks like fender can not or just does not like to fix bluetooth issues.
