    Well thank you!! This is exactly what a review should be.. your explanations on your experience with tubes amps vs this modeler is really well conveyed, your guitar riffs are pleasing to the ear, sounding like songs, which is what we need to get a good understanding of the amp, as well you break everything down to allow us to understand exactly what it can do and how good it is… and there's not so many folks out there on youtube that do it this way, preferring to make unfunny jokes or senseless riffs, so excellent work!!!
    Im using an old distant relative of the GTX; the Cyber Deluxe, which is good but after watching your video feel it might be time for an upgrade

    Hi Jack. Like the review a lot. I am about to take delivery of my GTX 100 and am VERY excited. Your explanation of the model vs modelled was very helpful and easy to imagine/understand. It's people like you and others on UA-cam that I am so, so, grateful - grateful for giving so much knowledge (by way of internet videos). This would be almost impossible for me to attain by tweaking blindly in 'real time'. I am in my 50's and still pinch myself about the technology that helps me expand my music. Life for me is better when we can play music. Thanks again. I'm SUBSCRIBED :) ps...I know I'm not old....but I am a pre-technology muso.

    Great review Jack. I picked up a GTX100 a few weeks ago and love it. I have a few tube amps including an SS22 and Super Champ XD and really like how the GTX100 is lighter than even the Super Champ. I'm in a cover band and this new GTX100 makes my life so much easier, no tweaking knobs between tunes to get the sound I need. I simply use my iPhone to choose presets as we go thru our bands setlist. Lightweight, convenient, no-brainer, sounds fantastic, what else could one ask for? Well done Fender!!!

    • @FireMrshlBill
      @FireMrshlBill Рік тому +1

      Hey, how are you liking the GTX100 2yrs+ later? I have been using a Super Champ XD exclusively for the past 10yrs+, mostly channel 1 with pedals, esp for metal, but sometimes the channel 2 stuff for the twangy blackface models or the classic rock tones, and have been eyeing something like a GTX100 or a modelling pedal to put in front of the Super Champ. Also been eyeing a Mesa Mark Five 25, but that's way more expensive and overkill for playing at home, so maybe the dual rec and mark iic models on the mustang would suffice that particular itch, but interested in the other Fender amp modelling as well. Mostly would just be playing at home, so would be low volume playing, for example I keep my Super Champ XD between 2-3 on volume so my wife/kids don't complain upstairs. You still happy with the purchase? Think the Super Champ XD is better to just stick with for only playing at home or you find yourself playing on the GTX100 more (assuming you still have both)? I've seen some used ones pop up that I'd try to negotiate down to as close to $300 as possible. Thanks!

      @@FireMrshlBill I've sold both the GTX100 and Super Champ XD for the new Boss GX-100 effects processor and a Fender 68 Pro Reverb. Lately I've also been using the GX-100 plugged directly to the PWR AMP IN of a solid state Fender Deluxe 900 DSP. Volume is controlled using a Roland EV-5 Expression Pedal plugged into the GX-100 because I'm bypassing the tone stack and effects on the Deluxe 900 DSP.

    Just got the GTX 100 and it does all that I want it to do. I had a Fender 85 amp that was very loud (65 watts rms) and I gave that and some of my old guitars away to a plumber who worked on my house. He really likes guitar and appreciated and I would rather have that than money.
    So, I got this amp because I wanted consolidation. Everything all in one and the foot pedal. And amen to using the amp. I can muddle through dials but look at the graphics is easier.
    There are two sounds I look for in an amp and effects package. First, is distorted sound that I get from Ted Nugent's Byrdland ES-335 guitar that he used for "Cat Scratch Fever" era. And the other is a clean and jangly tone with a slight crisp that I hear from Steve Vai on "Drop in the Bucket" on the album Lil Ain't Enuff by the DLR Band (David Lee Roth.) Something about the second half of that song that is just so right with what Steve Vai is doing.
    But I also like a clean country sound for some chicken pickin'.
    This is a great amp for the price and it will do whatever you want. Great for recording. Microphones do not care. People would be suprised at how many iconic guitar sections were recorded on a solid state 10 or 30 watt amp with a Shure SM-57 microphone and it's mid-range honkiness.

    Nice video and great explanations! I'm considering getting the GTX100 as a practice amp. I've never played any of the "real" versions of the amps that the GTX models. If I bought the GTX100, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference in feel, since I've never used those other amps. However, some of these modeling amps don't "feel" like a "real" guitar amp. They lack the immediacy of a real combo amp. I think the Katana is one of the few that actually pulls of that amp-in-the-room feel and sound.
    So, that's a long-winded way of asking: Does the GTX100 feel like a real amp? Does it have that amp-in-the-room feel to it?

  • @iancurrie8844
    @iancurrie8844 9 місяців тому

    You did a good job explaining the amp in the room feel.
    These types of modelling amps feel like a real amp, in a booth, miced, and then played over studio monitors.
    It’s like the difference between being in the room with a singer and a real piano and a record Ming of same.
    That piano and the singer’s vocal cords go right to your ears. Listening to it miced and played back over speakers is just totally different than being in the room with the singer.
    So it is with amps.
    If you buy an amp like this an expect to get the amp in the room experience, you WILL be disappointed.
    I believe this is one of the reasons the katana is so popular. It IS an amp in its own right and it feels like it in the room. It is the singer in the room.

    Hi, love your videos for years. It are completely different amps but how would you compare the sound quality with the tonemaster amps ? I only play blues at home ( think bb king , Joe Bona massa , Peter green etc ) I am torn between these two amps. The gtx can play my backing tracks ( boss eband ) and has a headphone.

    • @JackFossett
      @JackFossett  4 місяці тому

      The Tonemasters are going to generally sound "better" and more authentic, but much more limited. This amp gives a nice array of pretty good tones. I'd probably roll with a Tone Master, but thats also because the classic Fender tones are what Im most likely to use on the GTX anyway.

    Hi Jack, great review. Quick silly question if I may... I have quite an extensive pedal board which has taken years to pay for and build and I dont want to make it redundant. I'm interested in this amp purely for all of the amp models and then using my board for the drives and effects. I cant find any reviews about how well this amp does or doesn't take drive pedals through the various amp models. I was just wondering if you have tried it and can comment on how well it performed. I'm torn between this and the fender blues jnr. Cheers.

    • @JackFossett
      @JackFossett  4 роки тому +1

      So I'm sure it would work well with most non-drive effects, its even clearly designed for it with the stereo FX loop. Drives I haven't had the chance to test out -- that would be the bigger question for me. Overall I think this is a superior amp to the Blues Jr in many ways, however, if you're looking at using the pedalboard that could obviously change things.

    • @itsBennett

      From all of the research I’ve don’t only one video mentioned the GTX’s ability to take pedals and apparently it was inferior to that of the Katana. I am torn between the two and can’t make up my own mind. I bought the Katana and I think it sounds wonderful, I also love the power output switch. This allows you to switch between 100w,50w, and .5w output. Great for playing indoors without full power. I have not used it’s software for modeling bc i need to connect it to a computer which I am not a fan of. My computer sucks lol My Guitar Center had them in stock so I went with Katana first and have 45 days to try it out. I plan on trying both

    Your playing is really good but the sounds coming from the amp seem somewhat live less so to speak. Just lacks kind of that airy push which some have called '3D' vs '2D'. Would have been good to compare at least one real amp such as the twin reverb vs the GTX modeling version to get some kind of relativity. Have heard a number of demos of the previous mustang gt100 vs various real tube amps and they are just really different. Not sure the GTX version is that much closer. However the GTX certainly has some positives going for it. Just wondering if you can do a comparative video between the GTX and something like the real twin etc.

I will need a volume boost when doing solos in a live situation and didn't see that function on the footswitch (the Katana has one). How long will fender support the software or will they abandon it like they did the original mustang amp ( love my fenders but mad at them for that ) the little mustang practice amp I bought brand new had no support leaving guitar center , as cool as it is , this sucks and truthfully interested in the gtx 100 definitely gun shy after feeling screwed over like that ( found out it was Microsoft that screwed us over reason for loss of fender support ) 😢 ) I'm definitely getting the GTX 100 😊 I'm definitely a fan i have 2 fender stratocaster 2 fender acoustic a fender banjo and a jackson king v made by fender, a fender frontman and a small mustang 1.v2 can't wait to get my grubby little hands on the GTX mu ha ha mu ha ha 😆 😄 🤣 😂🤣😂🤣😂😁

    Good demo of the amp. I'm definitely a Fender fan, but I have to say - for the same money, I think the BOSS Katana Artist is the better sounding amp. This amp has more bells and whistles, but the Katana Artist sounds better.

      Thanks! I actually haven't had the opportunity to play the Katana Artist so I can't directly say anything in comparison.

    Your video was brilliant, thanks for taking the time to make it, but to no fault of yours I too have just bought this amp and I am so disappointed with it. It's probably the weakest and thinnest sounding amp I've ever heard. You seem to spend at least two days trying to get an half decent and acceptable sound, of which you'll never really be happy with. I unfortunately put it back up for sale. Definitely not worth the money. And frankly quite embarrassing for fender.

      Oh thats interesting, I didn't have that experience. I thought there was a slight learning curve but I found it relatively easy to get a good tone out of. Sorry you had a bad experience with it -

    I am lucky enough to own a valve amp so don't need an amp like this. Great demo though.

      I like your detailed review of the amp and the Fx. There are plenty of reviewers on the net who do a lot of playing but don’t have anything to say. Keep up the good work!
