Trying out the Fender Mustang GTX100 Amplifier! WILL IT CHUG?
It's a modeled CHUG! YES!
Do the pod go,please.
Honestly modeling amps have come a long way (yes like those lady ciggies), still not my favorite but at least you could tinker with them and get something good out of it. I am curious as to how they would take actual pedals rather than the built in ones (I know that defeats the purpose). I still have an old old line 6 that just sits in the corner, from time to time I'll use it on clean and just run pedals through it, but the built in effects are nearly useless. Thanks for the vid Ola
My champion 40 fender does.
Fender Mustang or Boss Katana?
I like the sound of the GTX100, but my favorite guitar tone is definitely that of the RTX2080ti
nah fam OG Integrated HD Graphics all day everyday
Yeah that is a pretty solid amp, but i prefer the 1660 ti
@@DudeMcGuybro That was the best comment ive ever read.
The gtx1050 ti has a tighter low end tho ngl, i think if u superclock the 2080 u might get close but if it dosent have at least an intel i9 9900 tube processor it will just thin out your tone, make sure u also have at least 16 gb of ram for more headroom if you wanna get a nice fendery-hp omen type clean tone.
im such a fucking virgin...
That’s just the hideous coil whine.
the name is like a graphic cards hahaa
Yes.
Fender GTX2080
Fender RTX2080ti
they could have just named it 1050ti
Doesn't seem to have that 60fps 4k metal tone I was looking for.
And i'm pretty sure that the "Metal 2000" is emulating a peavey 5150
Yeah it is but sadly it's a very terrible version of it. Oh well at least it's better tones than line 6.
Isn't it supposed to be a Marshall JCM 2000?
Metal 2000 is probably a dual rectifier and 90's is the 5150
@@metalheadblues no because if you look on the website the 2000 semi resembles a 5150 and the pic for the 90s has a treadplate like a recto
5150III. It sounds great to me. I would use the direct out vs. mic'ing it up as well.
The "American 90's" setting is emulating a mesa boogie dual rectifier
and its probably quiet due to the lack of mids...? probably and the compression
I also think the metal 2000
Is peavy 5150/6505
There a lot of great metal amps and the modeling has very much improved since the mustang 1
I'm actually more impressed with this amp than I thought I would be lol.
I played this amp in person and I can honestly say that this is a HUGE upgrade to my ears. The metal tones are so much easier to create. I was at guitar center to pick up a used powercab 112 plus. Otherwise I would have taken that home because the fender amp models were the best and most authentic the mustang series has ever created (my humble subjective opinion only). The controls were intuitive to me with a little fumbling like Ola, lol.
Something very odd about metal chugs on a Fender amp
Have you ever heard of the fender metalhead? Its pretty brutal
You'd be surprised
Evh 5150 iii is made by fender!
@@Nobody-on6gt I have the 50 watt Stealth coming in tomorrow.
my silverface with an empress heavy pedal begs to differ
Bro are you wearing a Berserk shirt? Holy shit, I didn't think I could like you any more. I've been reading the manga since I was 15.
Also, loving your disclosure text. :) Glad I could help!
Thanks man :)
I see Ola is a man of culture...
Brutal as fuck the tv series, the dreamcast game was excellent aswell.
seriously, this is a whole new level of chug
One of the most metal series tbh. The soundtrack is amazing too.
“90s American” is a Dual Rectifier model if I remember right, I’m not surprised you like it Ola :)
People have disregarded this amp at their own peril. This amp kicks some fucking ass, like any amp you gonna have to dial it in but, this amp have pretty much every effect you'll ever need, its so damn easy to use, and it thumps hard when you turn it up, you have to go to the global eq setting otherwise it does sound slightly boxy on the original setting. I'm getting some seriously brutal sounds out of my and its dead fucking quiet when I'm not playing, no hissing or shit like that, its a bloody great amp
I love the blend of classic looks with modern features
Really like this
wow i didnt think they'd sound so good, especially miced up, youre essentially running it through 2 cabs at that point, the cab sim then a real guitar speaker, if you use direct recording with the usb interface you get a cleaner picture of the sound they're trying to model, like youre not running a 4x12 cab sim through a 12 inch speaker, youre hearing the 4x12 cab sim straight up. This is why they went with a falt response speaker in their previouse version, they didnt want to colour the sound of their cabs with another cab, but it didnt work out they just sounded bad so they reverted to a regular amp speaker. I have a mustang 2 and the distortions sound great, without their cab sims or turning them off and using my own. The thing is i never play it through its speaker, i need the direct 3d stereo sound you wont get out of 1 speaker no matter how good, that being said this one still sound good. Nice job fender.
I would love to see a "Will it chug" episode with the Peavey Bandit 112 amp :(
I still got a 90´s bandit . Its still plays good
I really miss my old bandit 112. Sent it in for repair and supposedly the tech passed away. Long story short I never saw it again. It was a good amp.
Still have one it chugs.....but with pedals, either on the clean or the fx. An eq is advisable
Agreed!! Also hope if Ola does it he tries it on a cab lol. I love my bandit and for $90 you can’t go wrong.
I have a Bandit 112 Silver Stripe and it had always sounded WAY beyond its pricepoint.
I bought this amp thanks to this review and many others. It is super versatile. The Bluetooth option with your phone is amazing too. There is a huge library of user presets you can use and replace some of the factory sounds already on the amp. I've had this amp for little over a year and I am still happy with it. Love it for my small home studio. Never turned it up all the way.
Just bought one today. Surprisingly serious tones out of this little box. Can't wait to try it out in a real jam.
Always enjoy these!! Thanks so much!
Thank you for doing this! I was looking for metal reviews of this amp because I am going to buy it but there were no good metal videos about this amp. Thank you ola for this video! It helps a whole lot!!
Pro tip: when looking for amp reviews just type ola and ten the name of the amp, saves time lol
*Man this shit is actually fine for metal*
Finally, a real demo ! Thank you sir!!
Thanks Ola! I bought a Mustang LT25 after I saw this video and I absolutely love it
That’s sounds killer! , love your videos bro!
I bought one last month, and was waiting for this video. Glad to hear Ola doesn’t think it sucks :) I’m pretty new to the amp world, wanted something affordable with a lot of options. Luckily I got in on this version vs the older mustang models.
I have the old Mustang floor unit and the Mustang micro i dig them.
I had an old Mustang practice amp I passed onto a noob so he could try out tons of effects that was cool for chilling next to the couch.
The best review I've see of this amp. The others only play the presets the amp brought.
The way you first said "Mustang" is the best part of this vid.
You opened doors for me man. I was getting discouraged, but you pushed me into the light!
I had a mustang 3 for a short time and it proved to me that digital/model amps can be seriously good. I think there's more opportunity for them to grow but you can get some great sounds - I mean the metal sounds you're getting out of this small amp is amazing when you think about what it is...
digital and model amps are badass. this mustang is on the lower end trust me there is some crazy good ones out there. The peavey x2 is one of them. Pretty damn good. But there is obviously better one
@@haydenbeard123i have a peavey x2 and its really good for the price.
@@twizzynez yes. I just wish somehow you could have 2 effects at once, idk if you can but like wah, and then chorus, or phaser and boost. You know, idk if u can those atleast for me I can’t
@@haydenbeard123 thats the only downside, but other than its great
I always let my amps warm up first so the start up is no big deal to me. So far I’m loving mine. I used to combine a couple fender champion’s and GTX100 sounds much healthier. Even with my guitar sitting a little while a needing some TLC it’s got potential. One could really piss neighbors off with this amp.
I just bought one today and I’m inloooooove with it !! Played it today for 5 hours straight 😜
Finally someone is asking the important questions! Cheers Ola!!
These are my favorite videos of yours
Mustang GT100 (older version) also has a Celestion 12" speaker and has been updated with new effects from Mustang GTX
I just got this amp today after returning a Mesa Boogie Mark V. Way happier with the Mustang! Saved so much.
Awesome! The all new Line 6 combo by Fender. Lol! Love the channel!
I just bought one of these GTX100's. I have an old Fender ultimate chorus (two twin 12's speakers, each with a 65 watt amp). That old amp is not a high end amp. It's not a tube amp. It's a basic solid state amp from the early 90's. But honestly it sounded richer and fully than any of the presets on the GTX100. The GTX100 speaker sounded thin and tinny, even after adjusting the EQ. I suppose I could put a lot of work to dialing in custom settings, but I just plug in to my ancient ultimate chorus and get some pretty good sounds with just a simple mosfet overdrive and a compressor for country sounds. I had high hopes for the GTX100 that I could get great sustain without having to be so loud, but it just sounds thin to me. So I'm taking it back.
For the price, this is one of the better digital modeling combo amps out there. Definitely close to the Katana in tone, with a much easier interface for customizing the settings of each effect, way more amp options, and even more effects than the Katana has. I also love that it has XLR outputs and stereo effects loop. The Katana has a few more i/o jack options though.
I feel like the biggest advantage of the Katana is that even though there aren't as many sounds, all of the sounds are actually usable, whereas with the Fender GTX100 there's so many horrible amp models and cab emulations and only a handful of usable ones
also the Katana has a notably better direct output sound which is useful for people who like going directly into the interface
nothing to compare i had katana 1 month it sound so thin the fender much much beter in katana only 4 preseet was so disapointed
The Katana definitely does not outperform the GTX100, If you can model your tones properly it absolutely blows any Katana amp out of the water without any doubt in my mind as I've used both plenty. I don't need to have a million pedals to have an amazing tone with the GTX100 whereas a Katana doesn't even have a decent noise gate.

This is so perfect for me because I’m shopping right now for an amp. Keep it up! Have you ever played the Fender Tele FMT HH? I know it’s a long name but I like it 👍.
Damn, a lot of those sounds are great 'right outta the the box'
Love the background 😍😍😍
When you said, "I kinda like this American", I was pretending you were talking about me... yay!!
Normal when they accidentally go from clean sound to metal:"oh shit"
Ola: *goes from metal to clean*"aaaaahhhhhhh"
Sounds good to me.
I always thought the R&D for the Cybertwin led to the G Dec and Mustangs.
I have a first gen not gigged in over 10 years. Still 'works' but apt life.
Ola is always happy when he finds out that nice powerfull rich round distortion and clear full of harmonics...I do belive that thats the real metal tone, there were many bands using very high end classified gear that sounded like shit, but Ola's presets are always done after the professional recipies in obtaining extreme metal real dynamic tones....Cheers Ola! I do believe that the Mustang is very good for a combo, maybe not so fluid as a modeller or tube preamp, but definently works for serious purposes if you know how to use it...Any good preamp works with that overdrive setup and 4 cable methode noise gate or the integrated noise gate.....
God damn that sounds good!
This axe ...
awesome guitar .. to look and play
Sounds pretty Good. I just got a Boss Katana 100 head. Love it!
Yeah the Katanas are amazing. I got the 212 100watt combo a while ago, awesome bit of kit and a joy to play
Are the Katanas ready to go out of the box or do you have to hook it to a computer to download anything good out of it? Also does it have a built-in noise gate?
Paul Kline You have to connect computer to access the noise gate but other than that everything is great right out of the box
That Berserk shirt is legit, Ola!
Let's just admit, that this is pretty cool for Fender!! Would I play through it in a live setting, maybe, but if I had a choice, no!! As a practice amp, yes, I absolutely would get it for that.
The Fender Mustang floor pedal is a better investment. Amp sims aside, it's got a lot of great effects that you can use to expand your sound when using with another amp. I use mine with a Randall bass amp and it sounds amazing for several applications.
The little Fender Rumble sounds great
“We had to wait for the tubes to warm up” - Yes, but at least the wait was worth it ;)
Definitely an improvement from the older models, I have one but I use little harmony solid state amp and Beghringer ultra metal petal and it chugs better than my Fender amp. Makes my Jackson v sound good and thrashy🤘🏻
Love all the Behringer pedals. Absolute gems
"Will it chug " is awesome! I would suggest you to take 4 or 5 tube screamer type pedals and stack it in front of an amp tweak a little and see if it chugs. It would be interesting. :)
I have aGt100 (OS3) for the studio... love it.
With Bass amp modeler going through FX loop..... thick. Anyways 🤘🤘
I almost got one of these new Mustangs. They seem to sound really amazing. I ended up just getting the Katana MK2 instead because the wife got me one for Father's Day. So far the Katana is impressive but my Marshall stack still blows it away.
Thats a fucking amazing gift man!
That’s real love, when a gf or wife buys you a piece of real gear
@@experimentalgroup9473 She bought me a Marshall 4x12 to complete my stack too.
You are a lucky man, my mrs moans when I buy even a little mini battery amp and yours is buying you boss katanas and 4x12 stacks. I’m jealous 😀
@@dansmith543 She told me the other day I don't need any more 4x12 cabs. So she has her limits..lol
This is why I got away from all the modelling amps. I find myself fooling around with all the effects and everything and less time playing. Amp with a good clean channel and a handful of pedals. I'm happy!
I started using Mustang amps a decade ago with a practice amp,I ended up with a Mustang floor unit and then a micro Mustang headphone amp.
I'm sick of hauling my "real" amps around, so with 100 watts at 22 pounds this Mustang is pretty enticing for jam sessions that I don't really need my stack for.Sure it will never sound like a tube amp but turns out im the only one tripping on that. To every one else if it sounds good it sounds good.
Like you said in the video , " there´s a lot of bullshit in here " . The sound when you actually find it is good though. I stay clear of all these kinds of amps with the preset effects etc. Better to get an amp , select the distortion channel then use the knobs to get your sound
Yeah I feel ya man but sometimes you just want a cheap version of everything to be in one. And sometimes people might want something with fender on it but get all of their tones.
Yeah but an EQ pedal helps way more too
Analog and easy to use and understand
@@andy_182 on changing the tone? I want a katana but I heard it doesn’t have those fender clean tones.
great sound. digitally mastered!
If I am trying to find a nice amp that will be good for metal, I just see if there's a will it chug and lo and behold, here we are! I wanted to check this one out because there's an effects loop, and this video sold me on it, sounds amazing for a solid state amp.
Wait, did youchange anything on your filming gear, I feel like the qualityt is uber crispy, that looks great!
I have that amplifier and the best thing of it is you can download more preset in the internet and theres a lot of metal round there
My only complaint about the mustang V2 20 watt I had was there weren't any good settings for "metal" they were all just muddy and lacked punch. I get it's a 20 watt solid state fender (great for cleans and crunchy stuff) but when it's supposedly competing with the line 6 Spyder new styles, and solid state vox and orange amps...I felt they needed to be as versatile. Was a good amp, just not the all around I was looking for. I have a boss katana 50 mk2 now so problem solved 😂 I did never use the Bluetooth attachment to the fender cuz I didn't have enough time then but I did enough tweaking with just the amp itself to not be impressed by the metal range without any pedals.
Sounds awesome
That Shirt Ola is wearing.... That looks like Guts from the Japanese Anime “Berserk”. If it is that’s Freaking Awesome! Bravo 👏 Ola!
Ola deserves 10x his subscribers for real
Sounds bad ass.. Very surprised!!!!
When Ola says it chugs...IT CHUGS!!! I am buing this for my RG550 Genesis.
as a music producer, this thing would be really handy to try out different styles of genres! very awesome demo!
What bands did u produced man?
Impress me please...
Fenders are the most underrated metal amp I've ever heard. They're literally some of the best mainstream branded metal amps I have ever heard. I just finished up designing a wicked 3 transistor, no diode high gain distortion from the ground up, and I was using it to chug away on a puny ass Fender practice amp.
So glad he learns the gear before displaying it, lol
Good sounding amp
I think this is a good option for small gigs.
OLA! I’m so with the times man 👍🏻😆
Waiting for a guitar amp to boot is somehow not something I expected from 2020
Love the shirt!
Rockerverb in the room! Make it happen!
Hey Ola... I just watched Lee Anderton's video learning to chug with you, and realized that I have the same way holding pick like you. It's much more comfortable for me than the common way, but always difficult to do the pinch harmonics. What's your tips to do that easier?
sounds amazing actually. please modify the volume differences while editing the video so we can experience the same volume for each model next time. some of them are really low volume.
On all mustang maps. Just switch the volume and master controls. How you use them. I promise it'll make the amp sing
THAT T-SHIRT!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !! IS AMAZING!!!
Ola is shy of saying it's sounding unexpectedly good lol. I for sure did not expect it to sound this good having heard the older mustangs from a decade ago
I have the GT100 and since all the amps in the GT series now share the same firmware, the only difference between the GTX and the GT 100's is just the amp enclosure itself, speaker and power amp. Otherwise I can get real chug out of this Mfer easy for recording, especially using third party IRs by sending a no cab signal into my interface via XLR.
I know I'm looking for the amp, but damn getting a sub for the berserk shirt
Never been a fan of Fender, but this sounded totaly ok🤘🏻
Sounds pretty damn good to me
It definitely chugs and for the money this amp kicks ass!
I*m not into modern guitars..but that one looks beautiful with the brown wood finish
sounds good
Hey Ola, just wandering.. where is the stereo part of the audio in this demo coming from? I'm asking 'cause all I see is a M160 in front of the speaker and that should give you a mono signal, however with my interface I'm able to monitor the mid and side component of any audio and I was surprised to find out that there is some kind stereophony. Is this a post fx? Or some other mics in the room?
Ola what a nice berserk shirt!
That amp has got some impressive simulations
I'd like to see a Fender Ultimate Chorus on one of these Will It Chug episodes :D
I have the first generation mustang which was my first amp and it’s perfect for the beginner market. The 90’s metal model is based on a dual rectifier and the metal 2000 is based on the 5150.
Just set it to INSANE
Would love to see a vid on the fender rumble 100
The loading time though 😂
The rang booster helps to clean up the mud
It chugs but something about the distortion sounds wrong.
They sound different, but they are fun to plug into and jam with
Reminds me of a metal zone
Clean tones are good but wouldn't recommend for metal 👍
It doesn't sound good at all in the upper levels. It sounds great on the lower strings though.
Chugs pretty damn good!🤘🤘🤘🤘
