I used to work for a van conversion company we used to put the rubber trim over both layers of metal after cleaning out the mastic they put in at the factory to bond the two layers.
Hey Keith don't suppose you're near Bristol and want a couple hours' work?! The whole idea of taking a jigsaw to the side of my van has me pretty nervous!! 😂
Great tutorial Adam! I’ve got two bonded widows to fit in a van , so it’s been very interesting 😎
Travel-van-world I’m pleased you’ve found it helpful, give me a shout if you have any questions!
Thanks fella. I am fitting mine today. Morocco! Nice! This is the first video I’ve seen of yours I’ll have to catchup on any others you have. #calonvan #Transitvanproject
Just a quick tip for you when cutting out for the windows, if you remove the sole plate from the bottom of the jigsaw, fit a block of wood to the bottom of the jigsaw not as wide or as long as the original sole plate but about 20 to 25mm deep. You don't mark the paint work, also you clear parts of the raised panel.
I just wrapped the plate up with electrician tape, nice and smooth
Good vid mate. QQ if you would be so kind. What size rubber trim did you use? I have to fit my windows, one of which is the same place as yours on same van but have no trim and need to know what size to get? Thanks
Hi there i'm just about to start cutting my panels out to fit a couple of sliding windows to my mk7, been waiting on the temperature to rise slightly, so found myself watching your vlog,,,,did your jigsaw manage to cut through the panel and the inside support,,i've seen folk cut the support 1st with a grinder then the panel
Hi, we have the same window. How do you work out what hole you cut?
More information about the cut especially marking out the corners and cutting around them would have been good
Do you have a view of the window from the inside?
Unfortunately, it went from hole in the van to...window fitted, and you never covered the critical part. Disappointing.
what? is there not an interior trim piece that screws into this to hold it? show the interior, how does it look? This is so confusing...
did he put earplugs in ? i missed it ?
No he didn’t! He forgot, but he wears them now when fitting windows 😅
I'm trying to sort my transit window on the door, but iv noticed there is two skin's of metal on both sides with a gap of approx 3mm but not all the way round only on the sides, how in hell ya supposed to trim it ? I know the lad said he put his trim on the inside but its bonded to the other piece, the trim isn't wide enough for both edges so how do you hide the steel edge with out the trim ?......Anyone....
Did you get to the bottom of this mate? Struggling myself on this
Cutting disc on a grinder, much easier and straighter
I've heard this also makes a hell of a mess
Pretty much the only part of the process shown in this video is cutting and sanding the van. Would be good to see everything else, doesn't make a very good 'how to'
Safety glasses???!
