Damp q-tip might get the iron fillings out! Guys, I'm loving this series - the build is pretty impressive so far and can't wait to what you both get up to in the next one!
Hey loved the video watched it and used this to even cut our own into the van same place same window! Just curious as to 3 years later has the van stayed sealed this whole time or have you ever had any leaks thanks 😄
Love it dudes 😁 fitted three windows over the last few days, one to go! Glad when that job is done and it’s time for finishing the insulation, headliner shelf then solar 😬
Great trick prepositioning rolls of tape on the glass to be installed! Here's a tip if you cut more holes in your ride--borrow a nibbler. A nibbler looks like a jigsaw but has a notched, half-inch diameter pipe on the business end. It cuts sheet metal by shearing it, making no metal splinters/sawdust/fine shards.
If you crimp the two skins together it’s much easier get the single trim onto both edges. Great job though guys. Much more rewarding when you do these things yourself.
Hi guys, actually if you go to a car maintanence shop you can buy small extending hand tools with a strong little magnet on the end that is about the size of a pen rubber made for reaching small metal ( obviously ) objects like screws etc that drop when you're working on a car engine. that should be small and strong enough for getting the fillings out. I know this from when my kids decided to throw things out the back door and extending that tool to catch them and pull them through the cat flap !! Be amazed at what your kids can teach you
Guys, this whole work is just wonderful! Actually your conversion and ideas are the best I've ever seen. As for the filings I'd have used a simple screwdriver to loosen and lift them up and vacuum them out. By the way. I see you used the glass adhesive only around the hole, though the window itself was bigger. I might think that water can get between the glass and the bodywork where there's no glue. Or did it spread enough to reach the edges?
Thank you so much, that’s so nice of you to say. We did try loosening and vacuuming but they just wouldn’t budge unfortunately. The vacuum we used probably wasn’t powerful enough. Regards the adhesive, yes it spreads out quite a bit when you push the window on which is what we think creates the watertight seal. We’ve not had any issues so far so we think it’s ok 😀
Yeah it slides a lot smoother now, think that was probably just because it was the first time it was opened. They’re still going strong, 2 years in so very happy with them.
a decent vacuum cleaner with a small nozzle would definitely work. The smaller nozzle creates a more powerful vacuum if you think about it. you can even tape something over the end of the tube using a cone
Hey you two, loving your series and I am excited to see all your other episodes. I think you could use a vacuum to suck them out if you take some tape and tape a little slot at the intake of the vacuum. (\ \) like so 😋
The heavy duty car wash vac would probably have done it but I don’t think we’d have wanted to drive with a hole in the van door. That tube idea may well be a good one though, didn’t think about adapting the nozzle itself 👍
Thanks! Yeah fortunately we didn’t have to buy any of those tools. Sar’s dad has a great collection so we didn’t have to buy many in the end which definitely saved us a tonne 😀
Is it normal that when you install the trim on the inner wall, you can still see the outer wall? Is there a way to make it look better and hide the outer wall as well?
You're supposed to fit a trim that covers the inner and outer skin - so it buts up against the glass and you don't get a rough edge. They got it wrong in this video I'm sorry to say.
Just a couple of tips, drill one small hole then jigsaw the entire window in one even go, de burr with a rotary bit, put the straw on your vacuum cleaner nozzle to gain access, rough up the outside to prepare for primer, prime before touching up edge, apply sicoflex with a v groove using nozzle tip pressed against body... Basically please rename the video to how not to fit bonded windows.
Thanks for your very comprehensive tips @FairySox especially on the video name ⭐️ Maybe, since you’re clearly an expert in the field, you should make your own video about putting your own window into your own van. We followed the fitting instructions of the company we bought it from. Window is still in and going strong after a year btw 👍 And “sicoflex”?! Really?!!!
sometimes its good to watch other peoples mistakes and when you see two amateurs doing this it gives others confidence to go out and give it a try. As I will be doing soon. Its easy to criticise, I used to do it myself but I find it dosent really bring anything to the table unless it has genuine comedic clout.
Would you DIY or go straight to the professionals?!
Professional shemshnals 🤣

That’s a cracking idea! No doubt that would have been a lot quicker and more effective. Thanks, glad you’re enjoying the vids 😀
Well done, for giving it a go, and succeeding! Looking forward to the next vid
Thanks! It wasn’t anywhere near as hard as we’d imagined it would be, just a bit nerve racking cutting the hole 😬

Just starting my lwb sprinter I'll be watching thanks
Love ❤❤

Great tip! Many thanks ☺️
If you do crimp the two skins together and fit the trim does the window still sit flush against the outside?

Hi there, how big was the holesaw bit? Ordered the window but don’t wanna mess up.
Thanks for all the videos! You are a real help and motivator!!!
Admire the efforts to do your own glass fitting. Curious as to why you drill so many holes prior to using a jigsaw? Drill one hole and jigsaw the rest
I am a new follower of your channel Greetings from Türkiye 😊
Do you let the primer dry before applying the bonding agent?
Did you put the trim over the inner or outer skin or both?
Inner skin, there wasn’t space to put it over both on ours
I think I would've used some slime to get the metal out of the gap. The window looks great!
That’s a top idea! Very original 👍🏾
did you manage to get the sliding window to work better? im getting a couple from Vanpimps. How have they been so far ?
Yeah it slides a lot smoother now, think that was probably just because it was the first time it was opened. They’re still going strong, 2 years in so very happy with them.
greetings from Ireland well done guys windows look great
Thank you! We were really pleased with how it turned out 😀

A decent vacuum cleaner was something we were lacking 😅 But we didn’t think about concentrating the suction - good idea!

Thank you, glad you’re enjoying it! Hmmmm that’s a good idea, concentrate the suction in a smaller area. Another one we didn’t think of 😆🙌
How bout a heavy duty vac at a car wash or a narrow way with your vacuum (use paper towel tube to squeeze in
The heavy duty car wash vac would probably have done it but I don’t think we’d have wanted to drive with a hole in the van door. That tube idea may well be a good one though, didn’t think about adapting the nozzle itself 👍
Well done you guys! Did you have to buy a lot of those tools or were you able to borrow them from your parents?
Thanks! Yeah fortunately we didn’t have to buy any of those tools. Sar’s dad has a great collection so we didn’t have to buy many in the end which definitely saved us a tonne 😀

Where did you buy the window?
Which one, large or small?
@@TheWholeWorldorNothing both
The large one was from Van Pimps and the small one from Van Windows Direct 😉
The links are in the description too 😀
@@TheWholeWorldorNothing Thanks very much!
Use a bike pump to blow the filings out
Ooooh that’s a good one and something that everyone will probably have to hand too 👍👍

That was a painful to watch.
