Great video! I was replacing 3 standard closet doorknobs and was STRUGGLING with the first one. I couldn’t figure out how to get the original knobs off. After an hour of trying, I had an epiphany and decided to go to UA-cam. Clicked on your video and had the knob off in less than 2 minutes. Then the other 2 went even faster. 28 seconds was about right. Thanks for the tutorial…you saved me an entire afternoon of cursing, door-busting, and injuries.
Thank you! Omg I am trying to get this 35 yr old doorknob out and the mechanism inside wasn’t budging. You are going to be saving me lots of time because I have new ones for the whole house coming in. Thanks!

When snapping that little plate off with the tiny screwdriver - I put either a credit card or cardstock under the bit before snapping it. It works pretty well.
thank you so much, I watched so many tutorials but your tutorial was the one that finally showed me what I was doing wrong. I am a renter and the cheap doorknob was completely stuck. I actually got locked in my bedroom when half of the doorknob just fell off one day and I had to McGyver my way out with tweezers. I was thinking I had to hire a handyperson, but I finally got it thanks to you. Could not be more grateful :)
Thank you! Been looking a half hour to find someone to tell me how to pop out these drive in collars!!! Ton telling me how to put them in but this was the first. Thanks!
Two observations after having removed dozens of doorknobs for painting door/spray painting the doorknob in the 11 houses I’ve owned: I’ve not once run into a knob with a front release mechanism, and never bent any part of the mechanism on removal or install. Weird! 🤔
What about leaving the internal components in the door and just removing the knobs? you could even tape over the metal that protrudes on the edge. Thoughts?
@@slxwdivemight be an Alan key. Stick a really small Alan wrench in there and turn it. Might have to Google common sizes for doorknobs. Sometimes you have to turn them the opposite way from what you'd expect
Looks inside the hole, turning the knob a bit till you see a tiny flat plate, hold on there, use small flat head screw driver to press on this tiny flat plate to make it into the hole, pull the knob at the same time. Sometimes these cheap cylinder locks' alignment of the tiny plates with the holes are running out, you need to turn the knob a little bit to realign it.
HELP: I’ve been searching everywhere, I have two doors with the same no-screw, snug-fit dead latch and I want to replace them, but they will NOT budge. Unfortunately I did everything you’re NOT suppose to do which is leverage it from the rear of the latch (bending the latch in the door hole) and taking a hammer to the actual latch to loosen the latch (damaging the door). I’m under the impression that either the age/moisture of year after year caused it to cement itself, OR one of the previous owners GLUED this thing into place… any advice before I order a new door?
In the step where you inserted a screwdriver through the latch hole in order to pull out the latch, in my case the latch hole contains a white plastic part (and the part's hole is square-shaped). Do I need to find a way to remove that plastic part (before using the screwdriver to pull on what remains)?
thanks for the great instructions..got the old handle off...but...the hole was a hair too small for the thingy so i have to rasp it to get it in...nothing is ever simple lol,,i have subbed your channel because im just an old home owner that likes to learn to do things myself first before asking for help...only thing i wont mess with at this point in anything electrical lol...
Hey I’m trying to replace my doorknob , I’ve removed everything but the deadbolt mechanism is like stuck in the door, seems to be a bit bigger than the hole. Is it possible it’s like 2 separate parts?
The two screws that hold the inner plate don't have to be unscrewed completely - they only need to be loosened and the plate can rotate (it has key-hole slots).
Touché😂 the latch that came out of the knob was a excellent example of one that kinks over super easy. I didn’t want to break it for the video, and the one I used for that clip was a poor example but it’s all I had…lol I did spent some time driving around looking for a better one! Just wanted to pass that on because I’ve personally broken those type of latches twice…and it’s maximum annoying!!!
You are always my go to guy on UA-cam, unfortunately I needed to know how to remove the type of door knob that actually has no screwed or recessed buttons to push. As much as it hurts, I had to go an American UA-camr.ouch.
Ok, so I just found out that I probably damaged the latch. It is in as far as it will go. Why doesn't the Funny Carpenter allow us to SAVE this lesson to watch later? I still need to remove another doorknob!
@@TheFunnyCarpenter Yeah I did an addition on my house 3 years ago adding a 1st floor master suite. Bought nice levers for the new doors, and the old lady said "why'd you get different handles for these doors?"...Had to go and replace 16 others to match the rest of the house. I lied to her about what the levers cost because she would have been mad at what I spent...so I couldn't just replace the 5 levers in the addition with knobs, I had to pretend it was no big deal to buy 16 more levers... *facepalm*
Women have to start taking responsibility for the decisions they make. I thank God for giving me a father for schooling me on the way some men thinks especially the one's with wrong motives. Please women start thinking of what the worst thing could happen to you if you put your security in the hands of anyone, and you have no backup security to keep you safe. A woman should always keep some cash and a credit/debit card with cash on it for emergencies especially if traveling. You should always have your own accessibility to food, travel, or anything you might need. If you can not do this keep your behind home or in a place of safety. Stop having these unrealistic expectations in ppl and get you some discernment. There are some real dangerous ppl out there.
Lol speedy fingers. An "easy" way to always hit your time-trial is to perform the test first, get the time, THEN perform the prediction clip stating a time greater than what you measured in the time trial. That way you beat your time, every time.

I found you can quickly wrap painters tape around it. The whole way and just pull it off

When the the Funny Carpenter endorses you as the "door knob guy", you just hope it's not an April Fool's joke 😆 Good Tips on the removal side!
🍻you had a good concise video on the installation and I needed a placeholder until I paint my door and put the knob back on:)
This video just saved my family which was locked in a room -- THANK YOU!!!!!
All my knobs are coming off, being donated to Habitat ReStore, and new lever handles put on…how exciting!
Remember, if you love in an area that has bears, bears, dogs, etc. Can open lever handles.
Short, sweet and informative. Thanks!
Almost didn’t click on this video. Thanks for pointing out the release button. It was recessed. Thank you!

You had me at release button ❤

Looks easy... IF there is a release mechanism. All I see is an impossibly tiny hole that does nothing when I insert a skinny nail.
same, did u ever fix it?

That knob looks well-polished.

My door knob doesn’t have any release mechanism at all theres no screw latch or a flat head screwdriver spot to unlatch on the implant

Try and put a screw driver in there and pull it out
Any tips, that plate won’t budge at all I was hoping for that great popping sound? Am sure paint and years keeping it in. Thanks
How to get the latch out of the door is locked ?

After I removed the screws, I am unable to pull out the knobs. They are held together by some sort of spring mechanism. What is the next step? Thanks.
Perfect vid!! Thank you!

Thank you.
Thank you for your helpful that help me alot❤
Pushing the little button does not work to release the door knob do you have any other advice?
I have the same problem
I'm on hour 2 trying to get the latch mechanism out, you make it look super easy but it isnt on mine
Great tips!

Excellent point! I put levers on the front and garage doors. I priced out the rest of the house but…. The knobs work.
