In the last two videos the guys have compared Bo to Lin Manuel Miranda and Weird Al.

The “laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself” line is one of the most honest and heartbreaking things I’ve ever heard any artist of any medium say in a long time.
Agreed
That line changed my life.
Especially when you learn that he quit comedy after this because while recording this special and during this tour he was having panic attacks on stage.
Also when he screams, it's so visceral
And put that line next to the closing, "I hope you're happy."
Bo took a five year break from performing after he did this special. You can kinda see why. In 2020, he was preparing to return to the stage when covid locked everything down. So he wrote, performed and produced the special "Inside" by himself in one room of his house. He talks about it in "All Eyes On Me", which would be good to do next. Then "How The World Works". But at some point you need to watch the whole "Inside" special start to finish because it's totally unique and very very Bo. It's the most Bo Burnham thing that Bo Burnham has ever Bo Burnhamed.
"The most Bo Burnham thing that Bo Burnham ever Bo Burnhamed" should have been the tagline for Inside! 🤣
I like watching reactions to parts of Inside. But at the same time, I think the people doing the reactions are severely robbing themselves by not sitting down, alone, and watching it from beginning to end, to experience it in its entirety. Bo Burnham is legitimately a genius, and I do not say that lightly. There are probably only a handful of true geniuses in the public eye, and he is one of the best. A lot of the things Bo says in 'Inside' I think people don't look at too closely, but when you do, you'll discover they're not just jokes but extremely meaningful observations that you can think about for months or years.
Yeah. I heard he was in the middle of a panick attack while singing this. The yells give me chills because of how real they are. And after this he continued the attack behind the stage.
I would absolutely love to see Bo crap on all these generic posts repeating the same thing over and over pretending it was an original thought they were passing onto others. Imagine creating something that can be interpreted by the listener and then 10000 other people repeating the same story.🤣🤣🤣
@@bobsaget9675 You talk a lot of shit about originality for a guy who stole his screen name from somebody else.
So, one thing about Bo is he plans his shows down to every second. His crew knows literally everything that is supposed to happen in the show. The 3rd scream in this song was not planned and that told his crew that he was in the middle of a panic attack while on stage. It’s real and raw and shows just how bad everything was for him at this point in his life.
Ah, I knew that 3rd scream seemed more authentic...
Wow. I didn't know that.
It hurts me knowing it now .
Litstening to it now just sits completely different.
Lol at the stories people make up about this man.
Where did you get that info from?
Y'all were right, he was literally that teenage kid who wanted to do this. He started off on UA-cam playing a piano and singing/rapping in his bedroom. This song is kinda the climax of a comedic journey. And it's a dope ass journey ✊🏽. Y'all are fun man
I feel like at that part they definitely need to listen to "Art is Dead" where he talks about the same thing they were speaking on.
Yeah, he was 13 when he started on YT. It's been really cool watching him "grow up" over the decades, and I'm glad so many people are digging him now. He's always been a mind ahead of his time.
@@boondocksdragon8959 16*
At the time he did but he has said that now to him it seemed very invasive and strange, whereas at the time it was exciting so he kept at it, and he said he would change it if he could
The “can’t handle this” refers to him having live panic attacks on stage during this tour. He’s even noted that in this performance he was mid panic attack. So the song is literally “I can’t handle this exact moment right now.” Then on top of that there’s layers of judgement and deconstruction of performance (a popular theme of Bo’s), self deprecation about his importance, and the struggle of being happy. It’s a great song
You missed the best bit where he throws the mic on the floor and walks off.. never miss how he ends his bits
"I hope you're happy"
Εσύ εδώ; Βλέπεις τον Μπο και ριάκτιονς σε τραγούδια του; Δεν το περίμενα. A surprise to be sure... but a welcome one.
Agreed!! The mic drop is an important emotional element of this piece as well
Every single part of his bit is scripted in an intelligent fashion.
@@wonderfulpaperz1761 i've Seen this performance probably hundreds of times at this point and that ending churns my stomach every time. the tonal dissonance between the last half of the song, which basically implies that if he could take back all the success, adulation and praise from fans in return for not experiencing the anxiety that plagues his life, and the audience providing the very thing he sees as simultaneously killing him and sustaining him (riotous applause) is so fucking powerful.
It’s so funny y’all mentioned he was the teenager entering talent shows. Wait til you find his original stuff, he’s exactly that dude lol
I'm Bo Yo
Literally that dude. Difference is, it worked.
@@Oatmilllk And I'm the greatest rapper ever,
You say he was secure, but Bo was having panic attacks every time he performed. Amazing how well he handled that to do this performance so effectively.
This performance is several takes mashed together....he didnt tough it through and hit this all at once. When a special is taped theres is so much we dont see unless you were live.
Thank you guys for not just listening to Bo but HEARING him. Those of us who are fans find that distinction to be very important. Y’all just got yourself a subscriber ! Note, onto my suggestions :)
Thought provoking bo songs. “We think we know you” is awesome! Also “are you happy” and “left brain/right brain” also “art is dead” and of course “all eyes on me”
For some funnier stuff but still unique with a bit of a message I’d try “repeat stuff” “country song” “white womans Instagram “ and “ lower your expectations “
The “cannot give himself” line hits me, but the “I know I’m not a doctor. I’m a pussy. I put on a silly show. I should probably just shut up and do my job, so here I go” hits me harder.
We continuously tell artists, athletes, celebrities of all sorts to just “shut up and do your job” when it comes to their mental health, world views, etc etc. it’s ridiculous honestly. This was a few years before, but it reminds me of that Fox News woman who told Lebron and KD to “shut up and dribble” when they were outspoken on police brutality in 2018.
Bo takes us then right back into the bit. Into the hook about the ingredients because “you can tell them anything if you just make it funny make it rhyme”. He’s begging us to understand he isn’t joking. He’s begging us for empathy.
Then, in the midst of a live panic attack, he drops the mic and wishes his audience “goodnight I hope you’re happy”. Happy with the show, happy and had a good night out that you deserve. Happy that you drove me to constant anxiety. Happy that I can’t live with or without any of you because I decided to post a UA-cam video for my brother when I was 16, and now this is my entire life. Then he exits, and doesn’t return for 5 years.
Bo’s story is chilling, honest, and important.
Dont try to relate someone as deep as bo, to those buffoons playing basketball, pandering to their audiences political views.
🤣🤣🤣 you're getting paid millions to ignore your mental health. If they cant hang then do what bo did and quit until you can handle that. Rich and famous has its trade offs, but dont sit there collecting your million dollar check for taking a knee, for sitting out Olympic events, for smuggling weed into other countries. You dont get both fane and peaceful living.
@@brodelnaz Nah. It is that deep
@@brodelnaz he’s a comedian. They are both performing for an audience, constantly being belittled by sad people like you, who aren’t contributing anything to their narratives other than criticism. It’s pretty funny, and very sad to me that you read that entire comment, and did EXACTLY what Bo is talking about throughout his entire performance, all in an attempt to what? Defend Bo? Belittle Bron? Mindless commenters who feel their opinion matters, who don’t realize they’re just people. People with human emotions, wants, fears. Do better.
@@brodelnaz Being against police brutality is pandering? Take a long walk off a bridge please Ray
There's context missing in a speech he makes before this song during the special. He lifts the lights up and talks directly to the audience. He speaks about performing, and how his generation (1990) has grown up as a generation of performers due to social media, and our desire to "perform" to everyone, all of the time. He caps it off with "I know very little about anything, but what I do know is if you can live your life without an audience you should do it."
One thing that's stood out to me is Bo saying "I hope your happy." It sounds like he genuinely hopes that everyone enjoyed the show, but there's a small part of him saying it sarcastically as "Look at what I've become, how I've declined. You've helped contribute," if only a little. But that's just my interpretation.
While Bo was doing the show with the Kanye rant, Make Happy, he was literally losing his mind to anxiety. All of your comments are so bang on. Its lovely that people can watch this cold, not even the whole show, and this one piece touches you. Bo is a genius, and a kind, smart, caring, human.
A lot of fans had the theory that he used the overstuffed burrito as a metaphor for his struggle with fame and audience: "I wouldn't have asked for all of this if only I knew..." Bo has since denied this, that it was just intended as something humorous to focus on before he got real. But I still really like this interpretation, and I think it's a great way to illustrate what many suddenly-famous people feel.
That's where the conversation about authorial intent versus audience interpretation comes in.
@@Squeekysquid it is what we make it. we all have a burrito, whats inside yours?
@@deathsaidhello Metaphorically speaking, a bag of cats.
@@Squeekysquid as long as thats what you want and it fits. Why would it matter if its cats or not? You do you, buddy.
@@deathsaidhello I meant it's a mess. Not in a fun manic pixie dream girl way, but more like a hinderance to me performing in society.
definitely the most insightful reaction I've seen. guy on the left must be a psychic empath. subscribing for more Bo Burnham please if you would. people will undoubtedly say "All eyes on me" next but I think before that should be "Are You Happy" which follows this in the special.
Others I'd suggest are
We Think We Know You
Left Brain Right Brain
That Funny Feeling
can't wait for more
Guy on the left here (De)🤙🏾 Thanks for the support! We'll definitely have more Bo on the way
Left brain right Brain is never brought up and it really should be
"don't @ me, or do @ me, I'm with it." favorite part
Blue jacket fella hit everything 100%
Knowing the literal panic attacks bo was having during this performance, then listening him say the last line, "I hope you're happy" gives me massive chills.
Want to add that Bo was very hands on in the production of this show, including the lighting effects and cues. The stunningly effective visuals, like his brilliant lyrics and compositions, are 100% a product of his incomparable creative vision, and dedication to his craft.
Truly a once in a generation talent.
Dude loves his lighting. Looking back on it some of his most popular bits have amazing lighting.
Agreed
This reaction absolutely earned a sub. Every now and then I will nosedive down the Bo reaction rabbit hole and it is so upsetting how many are clearly watching in order to ride the Bo Burnham reaction subscriber wave. But the reactions on this are thoughtful, honest, and just solidly introspective and necessary. Applause and respect for giving Bo the time and attention he deserves.
"Let me hold a mirror up so you can see what y'all look like" is such a good way to describe the song.
Please watch All Eyes On Me! He just won a Grammy for it. Bo only exudes more creativity and authenticity with every single project he does. There’s a critical monologue in it that will fill you in on where he’s been with his mental health. And the entire Inside special is SPECIAL
"Come and watch the skinny kid with a steadily declining mental health and laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself." Most relatable line for me...always trying to make others happy while inside my brain is constant struggle just to stay alive.
I’m so glad you guys talked about context of when this was written. Nothing went over your heads. Even the fact that the silly burrito story represents getting more than he bargained for with his fame. Also, there is a difference in quesos and Moe’s does have the best queso from a chain restaurant
🤣🤣🤣 gonna have to work on my queso game -De
There’s also a theory that the burrito and Pringle can stories are allegories. The Burrito is how he took on too many projects on at once and a lot of them failed as he couldn’t handle them all at once. The Pringle can is about how people try to fit into a mold they know they can’t fit into or try to do something they know they can’t do.
Both are confirmed to be unintended by Bo. But they work pretty well.
lol this was a 10/10 reaction, queso is made with some other ingredients beside just the melted cheese, chopped peppers and stuff. but you guys are super entertaining to watch. also insightful. yall are great
art is dead or how the world works are good ones to do
Thanks for the love Scott
When the lights and wind effects hit and the autotune started changing tone, he was actually doing that in real time with a soundboard at his feet which is why he was bent down
congrats to BB for his grammy win last week.
Btw he was having a legit panic attack on stage towards the end of this performance. The cracks in his voice towards the end were him trying to choke his way through finishing the performance to please the audience because he knew they were there to see him perform and make them happy, but he was silently struggling through it. We love him more than he knows
Where did you get that info from?
@@StinsonSwarley I made it up
@@holdenspencer2112 I thought so, thanks for admitting it though
His WHOLE Inside special… It’s historically genius. I will subscribe just to watch whatever you guys find!
you should do "bo burnham - all eyes on me" next. he talks about his anxiety especially at the time he recorded this performance.
All eyes on me is weird out of context, seen many reactors not understand what they’re watching because it requires the rest of the special as the set up.
This.
@@SteadyRock91 it does help to have the context from the rest of INSIDE but I think its message is also lost because it’s watched without the context of this particular song and the battle he was having with his mental health.
@@SteadyRock91 I wouldnt say requires, but it def helps.
🙌🏻he is just pure genuine brilliance 🙌🏻
I still can't watch this without getting goosebumps and I've seen it probably 50 times
The damn Mary Poppins analogy was on point. I thought of that exact song when you brought her name up.
You should watch "We think we know you". It touches on some things you completely nailed about Bo in this video
I'm not sure how much either of y'all are on Instagram, but "White Woman's Instagram" from Bo's special Inside is also phenomenal
Hahzahahah...this has nothing to do with nothing...y'all's insight and clarity on not only what's being presented but the underlying message therein...kudos to y'all!
But my boy @16:35..."...the movie 'Mary Poppins' starring Mary Poppins...", what?! I'm still trying to figure out why, but that shit still has me in stitches...great fucking movie btw but the reference of a...mythological modern? day character played by none other than...herself is fucking hilarious.
Bro, thats just how my mind works 🤣🤣🤣 really appreciate the feedback and support 💪🏾🤙🏾
Lowkey almost fell out my seat too!
Just found you guys. Great job. That spoon full of sugar comment was pretty profound and 100%. Iv never heard that analogy for bo burnham but that describes his artwork so well. keep up the good work!
"He doesn't like being around other people, he's a true introvert"
Oh man, you're gonna go through it with Inside.
All Eyes On Me - Bo Burnham next please!! 💕
Yes explains this a bit also are you happy
This dude literally had a panic attack on stage, and he still is able to be 100% authentic
I never realized this was the last song in his last performance before he took a mental health break, it hits so much harder rewatching this now.
If you listen carefully too, the 2nd last line of the song is changed to 'I'll handle this right now". Only found that recently!
Weird Al is definitely one of Bo's influences. Along with Tom Lehrer, who you should also check out, because he's an absolutely brilliant comedian, musician, and satirist. A good place to start is the Masochism Tango or Poisoning Pigeons in the Park. Although everything he ever did was phenomenal.
Great suggestions for Tom Lehrer. I'm also partial to "We Will All Go Together When We Go"
@@1pieveofKH A really good one! 😀"When the air becomes uranious, we will all go simultaneous."
The Song "Are You Happy" is the actual last song that this special ends on, and I first heard it when I was at my personal lowest of depression and was one thing that helped jolt me into getting help and beginning to overcome it.
"Spoon full of sugar" metaphor made me subscribe. Describes Bo's routines so well
For those who don't know, Bo is controlling all of the lighting, audio and auto tune while he is performing 🔥🔥🔥
He has another rant called about Burnham-RANT . It’s great and is more of a rap. I think you guys would like it. Bo Burnham can actually rap and has a really really good pen. He got famous from all the views he got with his UA-cam when he was like 15 or 16.
Oh, BTW, Bo started out rapping when he was younger, check out Words Words Words, or I'm Bo, Yo. That would be an interesting reaction. :) Also, loved this reaction.
I found you because of bo review.. I just have to say from when he did this to even now when I hear this song I still want to cry. The ending emotions of him screaming was real the feels get me everytime.
Yeah gojoe, it was almost spiritual for me. Thank you for supporting us
De
When you get done with Bo, you gotta check out Tim Minchin. Top songs include Prejudice, White Wine in the Sun, If I Didn't Have You, but all his stuff is great
He was having a panic attack :”HAAA!”
You made all of that up. He's done interviews where he said that his anxiety is mostly gone by the end of the show. He has also said that the burrito isn't a metaphor, it's just a dumb joke.
Those screams towards the end are chilling. I've seen people say it wasn't planned but I haven't seen that anywhere else, I think it was part of the performance.
I think you'd enjoy "We Think We Know You" it's such a unique voice and performance.
Gotta check out even younger Bo "Im bo Yo" is a great rap of his, btw he was 16 in the vid and it went viral, in like 2007 or so.
That cheer after he says "shut up and do my job" is kinda heartbreaking
I love your reactions to Bo.
The Kanye Rant (from the 2015 live show, "Make Happy." It's an excellent prequel to the Netflix special, "Inside" which Bo wrote, directed, filmed, and produced all by himself while in quarantine at the beginning of Covid. Watch Inside from front to back in order for the full effect, but if you want a logical next review, and you want to fast forward to the logical sequel, view "All Eyes On Me." You won't be disappointed.
One of the best reactions/conversation I've seen. Please don't dumb down the insights...they hit.
You guys are go to blow this channel up. 💪🏻
Keep falling down that rabbit hole! After you've seen some more of his stuff, make sure you get to We Think We Know You. He was even younger in that one but it has similarities to this one.
Bo is super self aware and intelligent for sure. A lot of his original videos when he was a teen with a keyboard in his room have some pretty great bars. Check out Bo Yo, Bo Fo Sho and 3.14 Apple Pi
Great reaction. Love how you were guessing all this stuff about Bo that those of us more familiar with his work know to be one hundred percent accurate lol
19.00 minutes in "a true empath." He feels everything so deeply and it gets hard to handle, but at the same time, he also wants to have fun with life and not feel things so deeply. (I relate a lot)
Bo was having a panic attack during this filming, on stage, right in front of our eyes. When he walked off he did not ever go back on stage. Inside is the next time we see him again
You guys should check out How The Word Works by Bo! It's awesome!
if you listen to the last lines, he says, "I'll handle THIS, handle this RIGHT, handle this right NOW" and drops the mic (in contrast to not being able to handle it).
The feelings guy, the dude on the left, you speak to my soul.
If there's any big KRIT or Kanye you guys haven't heard. I'd love to see that.
I see Bo as a philosopher who happens to perform comedy.
I think the last line of “I hope you are happy” can be read in two ways: both his actual desire that people be happy but also in a sarcastic way. Like “I hope you’re happy that you’ve put me in this situation” but both ways hit hard
I’m here for the simultaneous double, stank-face
I've been a fan of Bo Burnham since he made funny songs for UA-cam back in HS, he and I are the same age so it's been awhile. I've watched a lot of reaction channels react to his stuff, I really enjoy watching people get introduced to his work, it reminds me of how I grew to love his stuff. But you guys are among my favorites right now because most hiphop channels go over his funny raps where you guys delve into his deeper works, and you actually seem to care and appreciate his vulnerability. Ya'll don't call him corny or cringy, ya'll hear what he's saying and I appreciate that. If you haven't yet, check out the song Art is Dead, super deep and runs along the vein of his emotional stuff.
Boa that shit you said about falling asleep during the first lord of the rings 😂😂 swear I’ve tried watching that shit like 5 times
Great reaction! Loved every minute of it.
I love how you both have your own views and go in depth very quickly and are not too stubborn to move towards the others point when you change your mind.
Greetings from The Netherlands
edit: You guys got 145 subs? Thats ridiculous! I'm 146 and I think a hell of a lot will follow!
8:23 I can guarantee it, as a fellow Alficionado, that Bo can list Al as an inspiration. I haven’t heard him talk about Al, but I see the influences, Chaucer, Keats… Bo fans will get that joke.
Loved the reaction and discussion. Y'all need to react to All Eyes On Me after this
Just found you guys through this, and it's awesome to hear people speak their minds as much as you can.
The spoonful of sugar analogy was staggeringly on point. Been a fan of Bo for almost a decade and never viewed it in that light until now.
oh this one. this one, plus "are you happy", makes me so emotional to this day, especially now after he came back. i became a fan a few months after he retired from stands up and it absolutely broke my heart to get to this one song knowing that this was his actual goodbye to the stage. and now he's back! it still feels unreal, it was so final that he was never coming back at the time. so now this one hits even harder than it already did. it is, to this day, one of his most emotional songs to me. and you two really Got it which is so cool
That line at the end where he says 'thank you good night, I hope you're happy', he's talked about in interviews that it's half-and-half: it was both a genuine sentiment of "I hope you guys enjoyed this show" while also being an insult, like "Look at what you've done to me, I hope you're happy with yourselves", and while he did this tour, he would mean it in a different way each night.
The burrito is a metaphor for his life as a famous person. He wouldn’t have gotten half of “this” if he knew how it would truly be. He needs his fans, but he hates his need for fans, he needs the attention, but he’s afraid to disappoint the fans. He repeats, “I don’t think I can handle this right now”, basically saying the stress of this dichotomy with his fans/fame has outgrown his personal tolerance for attention. You guys were spot on, he’s an introvert who has to put on a funny man persona. That persona is slowing tearing his mental health down to a level of sadness he can’t cope with anymore.
Also, my biggest recommendation (as someone who used to love performing) is Art Is Dead. SO GOOD.
Absolutely brilliant reactions on this channel, you guys give such detailed honest thoughts and I love it.
The whole burito thing is a metaphor of life... so when he says "I don't think that I can handle this" it's a literal and very poetically beautiful way of saying "I can't cope".
I love your insight and banter! Definitely up there amongst my favorite Bo Burnham reactions!
As I'm sure you've noticed by now, Bo has an incredible way of layering his comedy and music with real, thought-provoking lines and messages. You've barely scratched the surface of it all, and I hope you keep going!
I think why Bo Burnham fans find reaction videos is because we can't re-experience watching Bo for the first time - laughing but also unraveling and realizing what all his shit means - so we live vicariously through you, hoping to see those "Aha!" moments we've had over the years.
You can watch random clips here and there, but if you REALLY want to understand the underlying message of his latest works, you should consider going through his specials in order. Maybe watch two or three clips from a special, watch the whole thing on your own time, record a post-viewing reaction so we can see what you got out of the entire special, and do the same for the next special(s).
Cheers guys, welcome to the fan club!
First time watching you guys. I've been watching Bo for years now and it's awesome to see you guys break his show down like this! Great work and you guys are awesome!
new sub! Love y'alls energy and personalities and I'm also a big Bo fan. He's incrediblly talented. but i wanted to mention your comments about him being secure. this was actually his last show for a while because he was having panic attacks on stage and really suffering mentally. i may be commenting early but this is kind of his swan song for a while. Excited to watch more of y'all content. All love 🙌
I don’t really think of Bo burnham as a comedian. He’s more than that, like a hilarious artistic genius. He’s just so funny he’s classified as a comedian.
You guys are so insightful, please do more Bo!
Him yelling at the end was him in full panic attack mode, his producers off stage were freaking out because it wasn’t a part of the show
It’s amazing to see art that connects with your own experience and it makes sense of feelings you couldn’t understand before. This is what makes Bo great. In a nutshell, he is THE artist for people who overanalyse.
I really like you guys. :) You are both so insightful and you really pay attention. Also you guys have great chemistry!
You deserve more than 624 subs. Keep going and you'll get there. You have good production values and good chemistry with each other, and I really enjoy your content.
If you want a more lighthearted song of his that still delivers a message I would watch his song Repeat Stuff or From the Perspective of God
I am a Huge Bo fan and your reaction is probably one of the most insightful and accurate reactions I've seen. Well done guys... You need to go down the Bo rabbit hole. He is an amazing performer and u are right he is inspirational and I hope he has a long career ahead of him.
Bro this dude is a BEAST!!!!
one of the better reaction channels on youtube for sure!! keep it up :-)
Absolutely love the off-the-cuff observations and insights. Great great good good hello
This is so nuts because everything is a metaphor. He talks about the Pringle can with that being his career. How he tried to take it one step at a time but everything just hit him all at once, “Spilling all over his face” and then he references chipotle, and how he kept piling things on not realizing when it was too much and everything spilled out, meaning his mental health declined. Shit is nuts
I’ve been looking for a reaction to this where someone will actually listen to what he’s saying in the breakdown of this song. He “disappeared” for 5 years after this special & after watching this and his new special Inside, you can see what happened and what he’s dealt with all this time - he was transparent then and still is now, it just takes an open mind to listen and hear what he’s really saying. Thanks for this vid, I’m enjoying all these reactions. :) Take the time to watch Inside, it’s worth it!
Have loved this man since I was 14, saw Make Happy in 2015 and him resurfacing during the pandemic HEALED my soul!!
I’m not all the way through this, but you guys have a great balance, really enjoying the honest opinions you both have.
Super underrated channel. Love the breakdown.
