Thanks, I shoulda watched this video BEFORE I started! Didn't know to put in 4wd first, and my axle disconnect sleeve also fell out of place. BUT, I found you don't need to pop that cover off or drain any oil to fix! What I did, was reach into the end of the axle tube with a really long pry-bar (screwdriver, long rod, etc, anything would work) and carefully lift that sleeve till it looks about centered, then push it back into position (push towards driver side) There's a spring on the electric actuator fork, apparently, that lets you push that sleeve over into 4wd position, even if the truck was parked and disassembled while in 2wd. But it won't stay, the spring loaded fork pops it right back off, and it falls out of alignment if you let it go. So I held it in place with my long bar, while my son turned truck on and switched knob to 4wd, then the electric activator did its thing, and the sleeve stayed put, so axle slid right in, so easy. It was a bit tricky centering the sleeve while sliding it back, took about 60 seconds of fumbling it around, but I did it twice, (first time before I had a helper out there) so it works. Not sure what happens if one would switch truck to 4wd while that sleeve is fallen out of place? Will the actuator pull sleeve back onto shaft by itself, or jam up and break things? I didn't wanna find out the hard way, if someone else knows, comment back please.
Good video, about to do my 14. That sleeve is just the axle shaft disconnect, it doesn't technically activate the 4wd. That's still done in the transfer case. They came out with the axle disconnect in 14 to help with fuel economy so that your front diff and and driveshaft aren't spinning when you're in 2wd.
Ok thanks for that info, if when u put it into 4wd it slide on then I would still recommend doing that so u don’t have to take it all apart just to put that back on like i had to

Awesome video. Working on a spin free kit from Yukon gear and axle. My right Axle shaft doesn't want to come out😬 bigger hammer 😉
I put it in 4 wheel and it still happened. Another dodge masterpiece 😊
Appreciate the vid.. never did a newer ram.. a great tool for ujoints is an air chisel with a blunt tip.. makes it a breeze
I’ll have to try that also but hopefully not any time soon lol

@@HoldenPowell_ yeah I was wondering if that sleeve could fall off. Thanks to your video it confirms that it can when it’s disengaged.
Thanks buddy, helpful in many ways
Glad I could help
Great videos, in regards to the axle gears lining up will you know if it’s not in right? Or if it bolts up is it in right?
It won’t go in all the way if not
Did you reuse the axle nut?
Yes
