    No, reaper is king like always :D
    just drag from the routing box with ctrl+alt to the bus (with all tracks selected you wanted routed there). It will send them all there and take out the master at the same time. Takes one click, not two ;)

    Thanks man. I've been sitting through a lot of tutorial videos lately. This was to the point, but casual (didn't sound like an annoying, overeager UA-camr begging for viewers' attention), and therefore easy to sit through.

    This was very helpful! Thanks for explaining “summing”. I am very new to recording in 2022, it’s been awhile. I’ll begin my journey soon with reaper, etc. was thinking of using superior drummer. Still trying to figure out in my head how people get the drums to go along with certain riffs but I guess it’s all about manual editing. I get you can use standard beats but.. adding double bass, specific drum rolls, etc. blows my mind right now! Very scary being a noob in this world

      @@jason_baker_mixing It is identical for EZDrummer. I actually use both. I prefer to work with the grid editor in ez drummer, but then output the midi into SD3 once I finish editing my midi note (EZD3 doesn't have a ton of room mics, bleed options, and many other details that I like to nitpick). I actually don't even need to add new channels when I switch to SD3. I just replace the plugin, and everything is all set once I change the output channels inside of SD3.

    • @p3tari

      Dude, make a track template. Until you experience it for yourself, it is unbelievable how much time it saves to make lots of track templates for everything in Reaper. And I actually prefer track templates over project templates. WIth track templates, you can just insert stuff as you need it and you don't have a really crowded mixer right from the beginning.

    • @Bassclefderreck
      @Bassclefderreck Рік тому

      @@p3tari that’s a good idea. I actually don’t think I knew you could make track templates. I was having the problem of having to add or delete tracks for each project. Even tho the project template was a good start. Thanks I appreciate it.

      @@jason_baker_mixing the most helpful part for me was that you pressed the “insert virtual instrument” button, because without it, when you just insert the Superior into fx, Reaper does not suggest to add multichannel extra tracks for it
      You really helped, man!

  • @p3tari
    @p3tari Рік тому +2

    aww man haha don't make busses like that. There's a few different ways to do it in one or two clicks. I add a new track to the left of the drum kit channels, then I make the new track a folder. Folders=busses in reaper.
    Also, thank you for making this video. I basically have the same process as I go through this. Reason I watched the video is I was wondering if you would mention anything about the mono channels in SD3. For exmaple, in the death kit, one of the channels in the SD3 mixer is ambience mono. Not only is it called "mono", you can also see that the SD3 mixer only has one slider for panning, since there is only one signal for us to pan. It seems like it is only possible to ouput this as a stereo track. before the channels leave SD3 to go into the DAW, it looks like everything gets routed through stereo output channels in SD3. This includes the mono channels.
    Is there a way to output from SD3 to a mono channel? or... does this not even matter? Lastly, does this especiuially not matter in Reaper (since it doesn't differentiate between stereo and mono channels anyways)?

    • @jason_baker_mixing
      @jason_baker_mixing  Рік тому

      I am Studio One gang all day anymore. I’m pretty unfamiliar with reaper these days.
      As far as I know, you can only stereo output from Superior and Easy. If you’re printing out a mono signal, you could switch the track mode to mono after everything is printed. I normally don’t worry about it, though. I’ll just leave them as the stereo tracks that get printed out. It’s never been something I’ve worried about.

    When you record does it record as midi or do does it record the audio wave length? That's where I'm struggling. I need to share my session but the other person doesn't have Superior drummer :(

      If you route to reaper it will use the midi to play audio on each individual track. If you want to send it to someone else you have to render the audio to stems.

    Personally, I like EZ3. I think SD3 has an inherit problem. You took too long mixing each piece. I would have forgotten the rest of my original thinking of the complete song. This is what happens when you include too much. SD3 definitely sounds good when your done mixing on through SD3. But what about the rest of the pieces of the song. Bass, guitar, singer, etc. The purpose of the DAW / mixing for the final mix. It's like your jumping a step. Depending on your style, the drums rides side-by-side with other instruments to hold everything together. Again, that's in the final mixing. Perfect for stage, standalone situation. Realistic drum sound. But I see extra mixing in the DAW later regardless routing. But good stuff. 👍

    • @jason_baker_mixing
      @jason_baker_mixing  2 місяці тому +1

      I’m unsure what you mean by “too long mixing this”. This is 12 minutes from start to finish, about routing the multi outs… to be saved as a template and recalled later. There’s no mixing at all happening here? Haha.
