In this video I take a look at which drum software would fill the needs of most musicians. Being a long time user of Superior Drummer 3, I never though I would have the need for EZ Drummer 3 also. Boy was I wrong! I hope you enjoy this look at both of these amazing pieces of software.

Really well done Jason.
(I love that Toontrack has featured your channel so prominently in their Metal Month Newsletter #3).
Exciting!!
EZD3 has everything I need, and it's a really nice upgrade over EZD2. I like to send my drums as a multi-track (and mostly dry) to my DAW and process it there, so I don't care about the mixer. If I had more tweakability to drum sounds, I'd probably goof around with that like I do too much with guitar tones and synths/samples and not get enough music creation done.
Same thing I do, just eq them how I please etc haven't really touched the mixer. EZ drummer is really a phenomenal tool I've gotten some amazing sounds out of it.
Nothing in EZD is raw
Hey Jason yes, I got introduced to Superior Drummer from Ola England recently. I use Accoustica Mixcraft software for my recording studio and, as a Guitarist do not enjoy just plugging in Samples to fit some structure. Compairing the two, EZ Drummer to Superior Drummer I think as someone who does ths stuff in a home setting, EZ drummer will be a great starter. The Band Mate Feature is the number one reason. This video of yours was posted only a month ago and I am now looking into doing things different, wow how things come together. Thanx for the shared content and your experience using both softwares.
Thank you. Just getting started with EZDrummer. You are a great musician.
Excellent comparison thank you!!
This video really helped me out, thanks. Bandmate feature should be included in SD3 too.
I was super excited to upgrade from EZD2 to EZD3 for the band mate function. Not gonna lie, but it’s not very good at matching a beat. I’ve even tried using a DI on a very simple song and it just hasn’t worked. I wanted so bad for the band mate to be awesome but I’m finding myself resorting back to the tap2find more often than using band mate. Just my two cents worth
Great Vid I have SD3 and I am definitely dropping the cash for the BandMate in EZ3 definitely well worth the cost to have both. When I saw you drag and drop into SD3 to fine tune that was the clincher for me!
One of my fave megadeth songs.
Great video!
Hi there , what is the drum kit showing the northern light in background ?
Looking at purchasing SD3 but I'm unsure which laptop to get to run it through. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks
That track is almost Skin o' My Teeth by Megadeth.
It is
Dude...even literally unedited at all it already sounded seriously solid. Even the fills are put in great spots that fits the riff construction. This would save good 4 to 6 hours writing a drum on a piano roll and reduce it to like... 30 mins at most.
Long time EZDrummer user and very happy with the results. With the kits & tools available in EZD I've have a hard time justifying the move to Superior Drummer. Maybe Black Friday?
There sd3 sale is on now.
Top 3 ez drummer 3 expansion pack for progressive metal?
I've been using SD3 for a while now and honestly the sounds don't compare to EzDrummer. The Superior packs sounds so damn real.
lol
I found things that i didn't knew i needed xDD
I'm starting my studies in guitar, in my rom. This is amazing.
PLEASE: Do you know any software that transform audio in MIDI for BASS or Guitar?
Thanks!
Obrigado e Abraços do Brasil!
EZ Bass does
If the only plus side to SD3 is the sounds and flexibility, that seems like something you could get around with some good libraries or another application that costs way less.
what application?
I really hope superior drummer 4 has the improved interface with groove tab, etc. Like EZD3
I'm trying to figure out, why SD doesn't already come with it. 😕
shame they didn't include it. I think the obvious reason is to get you to buy both EZD3 and SD3
Did you know this video is the exact same length as my SD3 download time? lol thanks for this video!
Superior drumer 3 tiene 250 gigas masomenos , te lo has descargado todo eso en 28 minutos?
Great job, well done! IMHO the SD3 variant with the imported tracks sounded best, starting at 25:51. Especially the snare rolls, build-ups and various fills sound more natural and real than in EZD3 (which in turn sounded more "spectacular", but also more "mechanical" - somewhat unpleasant in the mix). Would be quite interesting to hear Addictive Dums 2 /3 in a similar setup too.
So SD3 has the Bandmate feature also, right?
What are your thoughts on modo drum 1.5? I was thinking ez drummer but I feel I'm getting quite the amount of kits w/ the IK product and i can change certain settings i can't with ez drummer.
It’s so weird hearing a metal riff clean. I’m thinking about getting the bundle that has ez mix, ez drummer, ez bass and ez keys but I’m not sure if they are worth it.
Can u use the groove presets commercially
Are you quantizing or tempo mapping your source guitar track
Or did you just originally track guitar to a click or groove track
It’s pretty close to spot on
I just tracked those to a click. I never quantize my tracks :-)
The ez drummer version hits so much harder wtf?? So good
Is there a way to plug my old drum machine up with midi and one of these programs do sound/sample replacement. Ive got a whole record programmed on my drum machine, a lot of technical stuff and i just need better sounds and not have to reprogram
Yeah man you can absolutely do that if you haven't figured it out already. I see your comments couple months old so I hope you've figured it out by now. But that's the beauty of doing this. We could plug your sounds in and via MIDI and pick from thousands of different drum sounds. I mean we're talking some pretty thorough stuff here. Different rooms. Different drums. Different mics. Different placements you can select how much bleed you want from other parts of your kit. I mean it's absolutely amazing. If you haven't already gotten it, you should get it.
I love Toontrack! I have recently bought EZD3 (my first drum plugin, at the age of 59). Bandmate is an excellent tool. Would love something along the lines of that new Superior Drummer Hitmaker pack, but I hear that versions do eventually make there way to EZD3. Waiting in anticipation 🙂
I hope they are working on some AI / Machine Learning in the next version... to enable us to grow smart variations from a starting groove. Which company will be first?
I’m still using EZ drummer 2. Time for an upgrade. Damn, now I have to spend more money!
I know I am late to the party but this is a great video. I wonder when Superior Drummer 4 is going to drop so I can upgrade Superior Drummer 3 to it.
Wonder if they have a upgrade from EZ drummer 3 to SD3?
They do. It’s 320 dollars
Does SD have controls to slide the groove (or parts) ahead or behind the pocket? Thanks
As a SD3 owner, I think paying EUR 165 just for Bandmate is a bit steep...
And there in lies the beauty of freedom, you don't have to buy it 😀
@@JasonSadites Heh heh. It would be even more beautiful if Toontrack added this feature to its most powerful drum app. 😉
@@ThomsenTower that is also a very valid point 🤣
@@JasonSadites Seriously, it would be good to know if they plan to introduce it to, say, a SD4. Since I would likely fall for this upgrade, I would have wasted money on the very nice EZ3. (Ages ago I bought an EZPlayer from TT, a midi pattern browser, which I had to ditch not much later, with no upgrade path, when they added that to SD...)
@@ThomsenTower It wouldn't necessarily be a total waste as you still could use all of the EZ3 kits and MIDI in SD and it's about the same price as an SDX expansion.
... 👍👍 !!
Oh my god he sounds like Robert Downey Jr. haha
SD3 can run EZXes.
Very simular sound like megadeth - skin o'my teeth
First thing I thought... Even the tone and solo style matched Megadeth perfectly.. Fricken awesome!
Perfect example of how to play skin o my teeth *exactly correct*, but without a YT copyright strike! 😂
THERE`S ALSO OVER $200 DIFFERENCE!!!! 🤷🏻♂
megadeth bro
after years of using both I say forget SD3, too bug, blah...for rock, metal or even jazz, ez dummer and ez bass does the job hands down...
Jason avoiding copyright infringement by the Skin O' His Teeth...
Bahahaha , I haven't the foggiest idea what you are referring to 😉
Sounds like skin of my teeth from Megadeth.
Shameless rip of Megadeth Skin of my teeth!!!
Yup, it was literally written as a sound a like. I even mentioned it in the video. Do you think you are educating somebody? You should really try putting your energy into something productive in your life. Sad way to live.
It would only be shameless if he was trying to profit from it..... who cares really? It's just a demo
It’s not about the song dumb dumb! Did you not read the heading in the video !
