WHOA!! I avoid the multitrack routing when I have an idea I want to get down quickly and I had NO IDEA that it isn’t a one-way door. I have always added a new instance of EZDrummer with the multitrack option then deleted the stereo track when I want to have the expanded options later. This is *another* game changer, Shawn! Haha. Yer a wizard.
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Perfect! Many thanks. So it seems I should have a basic stereo routing for tracking but then consider multichannel for mixing.
Thanks! I did not know how to go back and make it multitrack after telling it NO on the initial popup. I also did not know about the auto multichannel routing, I had been routing things manually. Manual routing is nice, but there's definitely some times where the auto routing would be just fine and save some time. Also just want to say, after having watched a bunch of your videos that the way you teach/demonstrate is very easy to follow.
Very good. I do it differently. I mix and finalize the drums in EZDrummer 3 and then export this as an audio file to my Reaper project. Here is an album done this way. All streaming services - Afro Jazz Fusion album by Thomas Shea.
I use this method with Addictive drums 2, to play my e-drums thru my Soundcraft signature multi 24, it allows me to adjust the volume in real time of each individual kit piece, especially helpful to control each individual cymbals volume. Thanks for posting, I went ahead and subscribed, as I like your style.
Had to make a playlist on UA-cam and called it "Essential Kick Ass Reaper" so I could separate your video from the noise on YT. Thank you for being so bad ass to record this.
@@ShootieSchool So apparently when i installed Reaper and Toontrack, something went wrong. I deleted both and re set up from scratch and now the mixer option works. Absolutely great video that is right to the point and great info. Thanks for showing us a better way Yoda!
8:50 "One last trick..." Holy poop man! you fixed EZDrummer! How do you get the multichannel meters to display vertical? Mine are all horizontal. I have been trying to change it for an hour now. Thanks
Beautiful explanation! Just subscribed! Do you know if there is a way to do all this but also have the midi tracks from EZdrummer/Superior Drummer show up was waveforms on the tracks?
The easiest way would be to do the routing only in EZDrummer the way you want to separate the tracks. Then use EZDrummer's Track menu to export audio stems. If there's no tempo changes in your song I think that's best. As for reaper, there is a stem option in the Render menu. I don't use it enough to instruct off the top of my head.
@@ShootieSchool ahh perfect 👍🏼 I’ll shall try this today. How I do it is that I drag the complete session track from the Ezdrummer 3 into reaper. Once I record guitars, vocals and keyboardist to my liking, I mix down. Thanks for the response, Prost !
Once you have the routing would you render the midi to audio files on each track before mixing? Saves CPU and would give a consistent playback, if you have finished editing your drums.
So after I’ve created all the routing and the bus etc, when I go to track the drums from EZ drummer3 do I arm all the drum tracks and the bus or no? Also, not sure if this matters but, my snare drum is always in the yellow no matter what and I can’t figure out why? All the rest of my other drum tracks stay in the green so I figured this may be an issue. Even when I have it turned down in the mix to where I can barely hear it, it’s still in the yellow. Makes no sense to me.Great channel by the way. Super helpful. Thanks!
Thank you! You don't have to arm anything. If you think you're peaking from the source you could turn the volume of a particular instrument down on the Drums Tab.
This was great to get me started with reaper and ezd3! Do any of you fine folks know if I can use my TD17 kvx edrum kit to trigger midi into the ezd 3 grid editor for further editing? Instead of building a beat from scratch with the pencil in grid editor I want to play it on my edrums and have it assigned to the correct drum and velocity on grid editor, then be able to edit the midi. I remember being able to do something like this in Logic but can't find a ezd3 or reaper video telling me how to record edrums to then be able to fully edit the midi. I have been on a quest through hours of videos looking for this because I can't get a good beat via auditioning grooves or building from scratch but maybe that just needs practice. If anyone has info I love you in advance!
love your channel and thank you for all you do, I am brand new at this and I have already screwed up my Reaper. I was experimenting with colors and hit something bad! I have lost all the channels going across the bottom. it is gone . I hope I am saying this right. It is the strip across the bottom (mixer?) I would appreciate any help. I am wanting to do drum covers and haven't even made it to adding the music yet or video..that should be fun!!!
Great video and very informative. I’m running into an issue though. Followed all the steps. I’ve armed the channels to record and I get signal from EZD3 to all the channels in Reaper, but nothing is recording. I know I must be missing something simple but not sure what the issue is. Any thoughts?
I have 3 acoustics and will be receiving my Yamaha DTX10 this week. All i need is ezdrummer to custom my kit? Do I need reaper or anything like that? I jusr want a larger library for different sounds and kits. Thanks for your time.
I don't know Studio One well enough. I am pursuing Reaper more so. But the Pro version of Studio One has that cool Clipboard (called something similar to that) feature and I like the look more.
I do have 1 question, when I do the multi track option in Ez Drummer 3, I only hear the Kick. VU are showing signal on other channels, but only kick is playing. Any help you can suggest is appreciated.

Hi! I'm currently using MT Power Drums in Reaper and I want to switch to Superior Drummer 3 because love its sound. But I am afraid if it's going to work out... So I basically program the MIDI drums on my computer keyboard, then I just choose MT Power Drums and I don't even mix/change anything, I just want Reaper to play those drums. Will it work the same with SD3? I read that it's a "standalone software" and every tutorial shows possibilities of doing some really complex stuff, but I'd like to keep it very simple - just choose a cool "stock" preset in SD3 and then record other instruments... Is that possible? :)
It is not only a standalone program. It loads into your DAW and will read whatever midi you’ve programmed in your DAW. Just load it up on the track that has midi on it and it will play it. If you’re not an EDrummer or someone who wants to mix drums. EZDrummer might be a better fit and less expensive.
@@ShootieSchool Thanks! I can run EZ Drummer 2 by itself, my Reaper has not issues either because i can see other VST's i've added. I've tried clicking the rescan button also.
Hello friend, How are you? Greetings from Argentina. I would like you to explain to me how to transfer a complete base or theme finished in ez druumer to my DAW REAPER.
I’ll have to make one. You make stereo auxiliary tracks and set their input from the plug-in drop down and select easy drummer and which track easy drummer is transmitting. Hop on one of my Support groups and I’ll send you a screen cap. The links are below in the description.
Everything works perfectly until I move the tracks into the bus. Then it's all muted. I've started over several times and followed your steps. What am I doing wrong?
I’m not sure, because I do not create a bus when routing easy Drummer. When you select the routing option, the track that easy Drummer is on, turns into a bus.
@@ShootieSchool well that's what I mean. When I moved all the tracks into track 1 (the original ezdrummer3 track) it's muted. So at 6:30, imagine your playback was muted.
I believe you did miss a step and that would not be easy for me to predict which one. Feel free to come down to one of my groups so you can post some screenshots or even a video of what you're doing. Daw being reaper.

how do you change the drum tempoo in reaper
EZDrummer follows reaper’s tempo.
Hi just wanna ask how you put backing track on this if i want to make some cover song
EZDrummer has many tools. It depends on what your experience is to decide which way is best.
Ive got a Scarlet 4i4. Is it possible to rout kick, snare, toms and cymbals to four outputs so I can send them FOH?
With a DAW I would think yes. 2 main outputs and two auxiliary.
Thanks for the response. I don't suppose there's a guide or anything for this? 🤔
It would be a workflow for your
Specific daw. “How to route to extra hardware outputs in Pro Tools”, for example.
