In the period in which the Mediterranean diet model was being built, populations were still experiencing situations of food insecurity and were preparing to make choices that would distance them from a regime considered precarious and insufficient. Massimo Cresta, one of the leading scholars of nutrition in the southern regions and African countries, analyzes food consumption in Rofrano nel Cilento, in a period from 1954 to 1995. The work carried out in the area by Cresta and by the various doctors and collaborators during the first year it was filmed by the Istituto Luce which made a valuable documentary ( Inchiesta Alimentari a Rofrano , 1954, directed by Virgilio Tosi) which is fortunately available online today. In his numerous monographs, the result of research carried out with scholars from various disciplines (Eugenio Cialfa, Gabriella Barberini, Pierluigi Calandra, Piero Passarello, Francesco Vecchi and others), Cresta examines, with reference to the first half of the twentieth century and the fifties, the relationships between nutritional and social malaise, environmental conditions, developmental anomalies, and the biological situation of individuals. This is how he comments at the end of a systematic and continuous survey over forty years, the results of certain investigations, probably over-emphasized and publicised: «How disappointing for today's nutritionists, lovers of the "Mediterranean diet", to think that the “Mediterranean diet” which was consumed in “lands like Cilento” was not based on olive oil and wheat, but on chestnuts, corn and pork fat" (M. Cresta, Vaamminannu cu' l'uocchi spierti. A brief history of the food and other things of a mountain community in Cilento. Rofrano 1954-1995 , 1995, pp. 9-10).

I have been an extremely insulin resistant diabetic for 20 years. After four years of healthy, whole eating low carb, Ozempic finally made my blood sugar stable. I have not changed the way I eat or my exercise. I got on this drug to help my liver, yes my liver function better. It makes me mad when people take this drug and don’t need it. I also take the lowest possible dose I need to help me. Thank you for your videos!

@vickyburton2434 My wife is on it. She is what they have called a "brittle diabetic." Her sugars can range between 50 and 350+ on any given day without any major trigger. They estimated her pancreas only works at about 10%, but its friggin Kaiser, so who knows? The ozempic seems to help a little, but those people that take it for weight loss only make it much more difficult for diabetics to even get it, as I'm sure you have also experienced. Its constantly on back order.

00:00 🍽 Foods stimulating glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) akin to semaglutide can aid in appetite control and enhance insulin function.
01:09 🥦 GLP-1 receptor agonists assist pancreatic beta cells, improving insulin production, aiding those with blood glucose issues.
02:17 🥩 Whole food protein sources promote significant GLP-1 secretion, aiding in better insulin response and glucose control.
04:52 🫒 Unsaturated fats like olive oil trigger a potent GLP-1 secretion compared to saturated fats, benefiting appetite control and insulin support.
06:44 🍬 Allulose, a non-nutritive sweetener, induces a significant GLP-1 response, potentially preventing overeating and supporting insulin function.
08:20 🥬 Specific flavonoids in Mediterranean-style foods like quercetin, curcumin, and EGCG found in green tea stimulate GLP-1 secretion.
09:17 🥗 Fiber-rich foods promote a diverse microbiome and short-chain fatty acids, enhancing overall GLP-1 production.
10:10 🍽 Combining different nutrients (e.g., protein with carbs or fats) may stimulate more GLP-1, emphasizing the importance of diverse food combinations.
11:03 🍇 Mediterranean diet rich in protein, quercetin, high fiber, and mono/polyunsaturated fats stimulates a potent GLP-1 response, aiding in appetite control and insulin support.

Not ozempic, but Mounjaro (tirzepitide) helped me lose 120lbs. And I’m still losing. Adiposity Based Chronic Disease (ABCD, doctors really need to get better at naming things)is a real thing. It requires you to be on a high protein, medium fat, low carb diet. And address the mental health component related to food issues. But this drug is an absolute and literal life saver. It brought me back from pre-diabetes, I can exercise again, I have my life back. Diet changes and exercise alone will not do this.

I didn’t have these meds for weight loss. I’ve kept my weight off for almost 5 years now. It absolutely can be done without medication.

If you are overweight eg greater than 25% fat body content, then you are a ticking timebomb for multiple diseases .. so I get it that diabetics should always be first preference as their condition is known and needs to be treated, but it would be some form of discrimination to tell obese people their health is not as important, and just wait until your cardiovascular disease gets worse or you develop diabetes .. prevention is better than cure, and everyone is entitled to pursue that when they are known to be medically at risk

The more you know the less sure you’ll be when it comes to eating. Mixing meat and vegetables can lead to bloating and constipation. (Because carbs are digested faster.) But having all kinds of food helps with GLP1 excretion. So if I cannot mix them and still have variety, maybe I should eat more frequently with different types of food for each intake. Still no, because we shouldn’t constantly eat to spike our glucose and insulin. 😂 To be honest historically humans wouldn’t have the access to so many types of food to enjoy in one meal unless they ate kings or something. These contradictions. Should we stick to ancestral diet or we are just picking one specific aspect of data and calling it the new bio hack. I am unconvinced.
