surpised , thomas left out the betaglucans...especially microbiome....and phsylium husk
You could just eat animal foods which contain way more butyrate than your gut will ever produce. I don’t get this fascination with the part of your digestive system that does the least digesting and that was shrunk in humans to counter the energy required for larger brains. Fermenting fibre is fine when you cannot get fat and protein otherwise it’s not even required.
@@maplin007The friendly bacteria in our microbiome (which are required not only for good digestion but also for a healthy immune system) literally feed on the soluble fiber (prebiotics) in plant foods.
@@HeavyInstinct And on collagen , however bad bacteria also like fibre so be careful what your feeding. Either way you don’t need them, your mothers birth canal has more say in your biome that diet. You can add all the insectacides etc on crops which can really mess your gut up
Very nice list. Good job!
Walking 10,000 steps a day has also helped me immensely with my gut health
🙂✨
What do you use to track how many steps you take?
@@niellalien I use my iphone that counts the steps and/or miles
@@niellalien I take my iphone and it tracks my steps.
Yep no more constipation 👍
The key takeaways are:
1. **Holistic Approach to Colon Health**: Delauer emphasizes that colon health is not just about consuming high fiber but also involves proper hydration, phytochemicals, and nutrients that specifically fuel colon cells.
2. **Importance of Hydration**: Water is crucial for colon health as it aids in waste clearance and overall digestive efficiency.
3. **Beneficial Fruits**: Certain fruits like apples, pears, apricots, prunes, and plums are highlighted for their sorbitol content, which helps draw water into the colon, aiding in hydration and waste movement.
4. **Avocado for Hydration**: Avocado is rich in hydrophilic compounds and sorbitol, making it beneficial for colon hydration.
5. **Broccoli's Unique Benefits**: Broccoli aids in increasing microbial diversity and butyrate-producing bacteria in the gut, which fuels colon cells and reduces inflammation.
6. **Berries and Colon Health**: Berries contain phytochemicals that may reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the colon.
7. **Chia Seeds' Impact on Gut Microbiome**: The mucilage from chia seeds positively affects the gut microbiome, contributing to colon health.
8. **Role of Probiotics**: Supplemental probiotics, like Seed, can support colon health by introducing beneficial bacteria and prebiotics.
9. **Kimchi's Prebiotic Properties**: Kimchi may benefit gut health due to its prebiotic components and fermented nature.
10. **Fermented Drinks for Gut Health**: Water kefir and kefir are effective probiotics that support colon health.
11. **Apple Cider Vinegar for Digestion**: It aids in digestion and may introduce beneficial bacteria and enzymes to the gut.
12. **Lemon Juice for Colon Cleansing**: High in vitamin C, lemon juice may help in clearing the colon.
13. **Green Bananas as Resistant Starch**: They feed good bacteria in the gut, increase butyrate production, and can reduce inflammation in conditions like IBS.
14. **Buckwheat's Benefits**: As a gluten-free pseudo-cereal, buckwheat is less inflammatory and contains beneficial resistant starch.
I hope you read this Thomas DeLauer, I have been watching your videos for a couple months now. And have learned so much. I retired in 2018 and have been working towards better health since. I have done pretty good but your advice on intermittent fasting along with ACV, ARMRA, SEED, PALEOVALLEY ACV CAPSULES and my now breakfast Kettle & Fire bone broth for the last month have taken my 70 year old body to another wonderful level!!! Thank you so much.
I’ve found that raw vegetables can irritate my stomach. I use to love salads but not I will choose steamed veggies instead. Ty for the video. My mom died of colon cancer at the age of 60. She fought for many years. I try my best to stay informed and try to analyze where she might have gone wrong. We grew up with a lot of junk food. A lot of processed foods. They didn’t know any better. They didn’t know about all these additives. Now I try to make most things from scratch. “Better than yogurt” -- unless it’s kefir yogurt lol
I have been having serious gut issues for 25 years . Bloating, Weak motility, and pain in my gallbladder last few months . I do need some experienced suggestions .
@@stevem9766 Try eat right for your blood type, feel great now...
@@cindyvan635 Thank you ! Cindy I will look into that . I’m pretty sure I have low HCL . So I’m going to bring it up . And I have been taking a Whole food based BComplex Methylated B12 . Which seems to be helping. Years of nutrition loss have affected bone density loss I do know for sure . I have been drinking water from plastic bottles for 35 years . Could be problematic for gut acid production ? Also now taking Boron .
All I know is my Sister and I have different blood types, and eat differently. I can eat red meat , she can't, it's worth a read...
I believe you are correct in the junk food being a cause. Tons of additives which are obviously bad for our health. Let's try and eat whole foods as much as possible. And practise intermittent fasting. And exercise. Oh and green tea. Drinks lots of it.
Thanks a million Thomas! This video was incredibly fascinating
Excellent information! Very concisely organized and stated. I know you're not a doctor, but you could be, as the information you give is so much more valuable! Thank you!
Thank you. Great info.
Nice! I have digestive issues so I know some of these definitely help
Dont forget walking or exercise. They increase bowel movements. Which should be happening daily.
Also stretching...
Really insightful thanks a lot
So few months after Covid-19 hit Japan people here were very worry and interested in having a strong inmune system, even when we are already healthy. Professionals in this subject came up in national television talking about how KIMCHI is the real deal when it comes to healthy gut and intestines even better than our famous “Meiji R-1” yogurt. The main reason it’s because Kimchi bacteria doesn’t only stay in your gut but goes all the way down unlike the yogurt bacteria. All this leads to a very strong inmune system which I proved it myself after eating kimchi everyday for the past 3 years. “Kimchi is the real deal” 💪
I haven’t tried it . And I do have serious gut issues that have gone on for 25 years . Continuous bloating and now gallbladder pains . Motility is very weak . Tried a number of things . No solution yet
@stevem9766 make sure you get a refrigerated version. Whole foods carries a few brands
@@joaquincortada1483 Thank you ! For your suggestion. I believe my valve is stuck . And causing bacteria to back up in small intestine.
I don't like kimchi...too funky, will sauerkraut work? I don't love that either, but its easier.
@@stevem9766 making your own would likely yield a better probiotic effect. It is not complicated and there are plenty of videos on youtube.
Though start small because if dysbiosis is present, the bacteria in fermented foods can interact with the pathogenic bacteria in the gut and cause unpleasant symptoms. Better to reduce pathogenic overgrowth or infections first through anti-microbials/anti-fungals, then reseed the gut.
Also, gut dysbiosis (bacterial imbalance/yeast overgrowth) over a long period of time can lead to gut inflammation. Longstanding inflammation leads to degradation of the gut lining and causes food and bacterial products to "leak" into the bloodstream. Gut inflammation and food/endotoxins entering the bloodstream antagonize the liver (which produces bile).
A liver that is overburdened will struggle to create bile. The purpose of bile is to breakdown fats, lubricate the digested food matter, and regulate/kill off potential pathogens in the food we consume (bacteria/parasites). Without sufficient bile, this leads to bile stagnation (causing things like undigested food, gas & bloating, potential constipation, gallbladder pain/stones, mood irregularity, sleep disturbances, skin conditions, etc.).
Things to consider:
- What is causing the dysbiosis? Poor sleep, poor diet, stress, medications, disregulated circadian rhythm/lack of sunlight, parasite infections, heavy metal toxicity/exposure, etc.. Bacteria/yeast/parasites can sometimes be detected through stool tests. The metals through Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis or urine tests (urine & stool tests only shows what you are currently excreting however, and thus aren't 100% accurate).
- What can be taken to support a more balanced microbiome? Anti-microbials potentially to first destroy bad bacteria, yeasts or parasitic infections for 2-4 weeks or so (potentially longer for parasitic infections), then followed by initially small but increasing doses of probiotics or probiotic rich foods such as kimchi/sauerkraut/Beet Kvass/ Raw kefir (if you tolerate dairy) to reseed the gut.
What can be used to support digestion during mealtime in the meantime?
- Digestive enzymes / Pancreatin: for pancreatic enzyme support to breakdown carbs/proteins/and some fats
- Hydrochloric acid (HCL): for stomach acid support (which sufficient stomach acid can help stimulate bile production as well). To support food breakdown in the stomach and to help destroy bacteria/parasites in ingested food.
- Ox bile or TUDCA: to further support the breakdown of fats, regulate the intestinal biome, and support the liver
- Herbal bowel stimulants: to support bowel movements (taken either before bed or first thing in the morning) and not to be used long-term. Bowel movements being necessary to reduce dysbiosis that occurs when the gut becomes sluggish
All of this can be further researched here on youtube or elsewhere online
And no supplement can out-supplement an extremely disregulated lifestyle. Thus sleep, nutrition, easy & frequent movement (walks in nature as an example), and sun are high leverage tools to address any physical imbalances that present themselves in the body.

I love your vid. Tq for making this vid. I learn alot
I make red hot chilli pepper pickels.. = chili, water, sugar, salt, put in bottle, place it in refrigerator, after 7 days i have a delicious pickles❤❤
I eat broccoli a few times a week. One of favorite veggies. I drink a lot of water
Excellent videos Thomas. Love it when you " nerd out". I've learned so much. As a pescatarian/ vegetarian plagued with IBS-D, I appreciate your insights.❤
Thanks for this info! Does lime juice have a similar affect (I prefer them) or should I stick with lemon?
amazing...best talk yet...thank-you
Thank you Thomas
Still trying to get over not having my oatmeal!😩😩I love my kefir drink, I have a little in the morning, then again after dinner. It has helped my stomach!💯🤗
Great video!
When I studied clinical nutrition there was a module on vitamin C and bowel tolerance. You are correct, vitamin C can indeed help cleanse the colon. However one needs to take 5000mg plus to do so. Vitamin C megadoses can also help with sight improvement. Perhaps research and do a video on this topic? I found it fascinating.
I take 10 grams everyday. Have been doing it for months now.
I did Vit C IV therapy before I started chemo and I would get 75 gm over the course of about 2 hrs. Crazy!
Can you tell us how do you introduce this amount daily? @@starpooper1681
Thanks for sharing. Are there any side effects of too much vit C?
@@ludmilaandr8793 There shouldn't be any up to 15 grams in everyday use and up to 100 grams in cases of some illnesses. All in all, it's a water soluble vitamin so it gets excreted pretty easily.
Great video, especially since our gut is what I think our first brain. I mean how often is our gut feeling wrong?
Kimchi is mainly fermented cabbage. There are tons of prebiotics in fermented food like Kambucha. The research is def there.
That's what he said. He said the research is limited as to the probiotic effects, but it's the PREBIOTICS are why he's recommending it.
A number of the foods mentioned are also high FODMAP foods.
I love your contents.
They come out easier now, too 😂😂😂
I had real bad gut health and a simple probiotic pill helped out so much! Don't be afraid to try them out if you're really struggling. The other 9 items were also really great suggestions.
Which probiotic did you take?
@@mann8283 Culturelle, I think I took it for 2 weeks while eating a balanced diet / foods that worked well for me
@@mann8283 Culturelle for about 2 weeks while eating a balanced diet with fresh foods at every meal. Prebiotics (fruits & veg) and proteins (meats) to feed the new probiotics helped a ton!
I have a problem with the apples, pears, etc.: my type II diabetes doesn't go well with so much natural sugar. I am working on it though. Love your research!
When we make pasta sauce or chilli, we usually put one or two grated apples in it.. perhaps having it divided through several meals might work, &/or choosing lower sugar variety like 'granny smith'?🤔
if you’re type 2, I'd cut saturated fat and calories, take a multivitamin. once you lose weight or liver fat, you'll start to recover your insulin response.
Buy the book “the Amazing Liver & Gallbladder Flush” and youll learn how to rid the diabetes and most illness and ailments from the body!
Which one of these would you choose to add to your diet, Chia Seed or Ground Flaxseed?
The science of our microbiome is growing more and more everyday. It's really a key factor to everyone's health.
His buddy Paul Saladino wouldn’t concur but here goes:
Apricots
Avocado
Broccoli
Berries
Chia
Kimchi
Kéfir
ACV
Lemon Juice
Green Bananas
Buckwheat
Lmao. Not Paul Saladino approved
Chia has lectins , switch them out for basil seeds better fatty acid profile and better for your gut microbiome , also pearl barley, you can cook rotis or flatbreads , cook them then eat them as they become a resistant starch, also , purple Okinawan sweet potatoes
It’s like you can be friends with someone and not agree with them on everything. Weird.
Paul Saladino changed his tune recently. He now eats some fruits.
Pears
Apples
Love kefir. My extremely sensitive GI handles it without any issues.
You Need only fruit and veg to build good bacteria
This channel is very good for health and nutrition information. Using this channel alone I have been able to eliminate ALL supplements and list foods that I need for ultimate health. And guess what... FOOD WORKS!
Pretty curious how the writing and pronunciation of the word "broccoli" is the same as here in Italy.
About buckwheat: I make my home made "piadina" (flat bread) to eat as bread or wrap or burritos .
In order to make them I add psilyum (otherwise is impossibile to roll out because of gluten absence).
Psilyum should be tested personally because just as it could help the gut in some cases, it could instead make some situations worse.
Ayran (apologies to the Turkish people) which is similar to kefir, though it's not kefir, is also great for gut health. In Greece, ayran is also produced and apart from yoghurt and either kefir or ayran, feta cheese is also high in probiotics.
No need to apologize. Same kazani 😆. Much love adelfos !
Ayran = Yogurt + water. Nothing special.
@@babekasadli In Greece we call it ξινόγαλο which translates to sour milk. It's not made by combining yoghurt and water. Sour milk is traditionally made in the process of making butter from milk. During this process, the natural skimming of milk occurs, a process that takes at least 12 hours. The result is also called buttermilk and to this they add the milky liquid collected from the process of cleaning the butter. The mixture is stirred well and kept in the refrigerator for 5-6 days. It's not buttermilk since its consistency isn't as thick as buttermilk; it is actually lighter than milk.
@@ApostolosKatsioulas in Azerbaijan that's just sour type of yogurt. We call it "Turş qatıq" which means "Sour yogurt" and generally use it to make some dishes. But Ayran is just a cold drink and made of yogurt + water.
@@babekasadli Ok thanks for letting me know. Sour milk though in Greece isn't made like that, I just wanted to state its similarity to kefir; nutrition wise even if I could you nutrition data labels, they are almost identical. Even the texture is identical. The main difference is that sour milk's taste reminds of yoghurt. Still, in the milk industries it's made from milk.
....beware of irradiated chia seeds. How do you know if they are? Try to sprout the seeds. Normally chia seeds sprout very quickly.
Which grain or pseudo grain has the lowest impact on blood sugar?
What about fruits like pomegranate that has high ellagitannin content, as ellagitannins help to support good gut microbe ratios?
Extremely good as it helps produce akkermancia muciniphila
Oooh, what about buckwheat and lectins? ..I'm trying to eat a kiwi or some okra when eating something lectin-heavy but it's not always practical!
(Got Crohn's disease and struggling with so much info, often a bit conflicting!)
Thanks Thomas for your informative and snappy vids! ..and the fact you're fit helps!! ;-P
Thanks❣️
I but chia seeds into Kiefer and they soak up the water and get BIG!
Thomas, what do you think about megaspore 2000? Curious about why you said you’re not a fan of probiotics. Something I’m missing?
Sauerkraut and fermented dairy do wonders as well
Not everyone can eat dairy or certain vinegars...
whats the best whey to use?
Yes, sounds good but what if you have "candida" and leaky gut? And lots of inflammation in your body? What do you recommend for these conditions?
What have you found out since asking this question?
By any chance do you know why broccoli constipates me? Broccoli, sauerkraut, pork, and salmon all constipate me, with broccoli and sauerkraut being the absolute worst on that list for it. I've been like this for about 5 years now. Prior to that I could eat anything with no issues.
While you’re on the topic, I’d like to hear your take on diverticulitis. Thanks TD for all you do.
I got it after I was discharged from VA this summer. I treated w/ 7-8 g. C daily. no antibiotics. really sick. had to sleep in the recliner it hurt so badly. Diet at VA was high fast carb low sodium. denied the C and zinc I normally took. crazy. Shreveport VA is a nightmare. / "thank you for your service". Ha
I get it every so often. Get empty gel caps '000' and put 5 drops oregano oil and 8 to 10 drops grapefruit seed extract. Close up cap and drink with 8 Oz. Water. Do that two to three times a day for usually 4 to 5 days.
Taking Moringa powder everyday has helped me Tremendously with my overall health.

Basil seeds are better than chia seeds!?
Can someone pls tell me when is the best time of the day to have ACV with water and lemon juice(vitamin C) ? Thank you!
I’ve heard about green bananas from various sources. I’m wondering if by cooking the green bananas let’s say in a chicken stew would have the same effect? I just think it may be better to eat than raw.
I'd like to hear your hopinion about kombucha ❤
1:14 Some sugar free fruit gums contain sorbitol. If I eat a whole pack of it, I get diarrhea. Doesn't sound that gut healthy to me 😄 (I know, I know, it's the dose that makes the poison.)
himalayan tartary buckwheat flour
having 60 % of your meal as cooked vegetables (of different kinds in a week and not consuming the same veggie almost every other day) daily and including coconut and leafy greens (there are 10-15 varieities of greens ppl consume in tamilnadu, india) might suffice i think and avoiding the triggers for poor gut health. vegetables have all necessary nutrients including some amount of protein and fat too and good amnt of fibre. fermented millets too are a good choice for gut health (5 positive ones as suggested by dr khadar vali).
@@DetroitMFers cows and gots eat only grass largely and have all necessary nutrients. vit b12 can be produced by bacteria in mouth and gut and from fermneted veg foods like fermented millets, curd, milk etc., almost every other nutrient is present in veg foods. its harmful to kill and pain an animal for our food

What about who suffering from IBS.
in addition to all these, if you're going for probiotics isn't that stuff like yogurt, kombucha, and Teeccino?

Thomas DeLauer ☝️😎
Started to eat an apple and pear a day. Feel like it pushes things down a little faster. Is it bad?
Probably, some would cite the glucose or fructose would cause a imbalance soon, so probably should mix it up with actual prunes, or maybe more high fiber nuts?
but more and more I keep getting signs to just go back to psyllium husk for probiotic/prebiotic gut health, look for this video online about Metamucil VS ColonBroom for example
1:15 Sorbitol is fiber? I have always thought sorbitol was a sugar alcohol. Wow.
A Google search of the physical properties of sorbitol defines it as a white crystalline powder.
Sorbitol is a prebiotic. All prebiotics are fiber.
It’s not fiber lol
Being that it has a physical property would make it a soluble fiber.
Do chia seeds cause diverticulitis if you are prone to that?
I was wondering this too
Since butyrate can be taken as a supplement...do you think that would be useful?
"let's move on to number 2"
I see what you did there.
Which is healthier, microgreens or the whole plant?
I love buckwheat! (Kasha)
White or BLACK CHIA IS MORE PURE//IMPORTANT?
We cook green bananas in the west indies as a meal
Green banana flour? Ill have to look for that
So I just found out, that my local Safeway carries Plantain, which I'm surprised that Matt didn't mention. Before I buy any, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how it tastes? Is it like really bitter or?
No it's not bitter. I'm sure you'll enjoy them, I like them a lot.
It just tastes like a banana, the only difference is that it's usually much bigger than a banana.
A banana but not as 4:02 sweet, a bit starchier. Lots of us folks bake them
They are delicious, look for recipes on youtube.
Please tell about cavity
Not one mention of just eating meat which for many has cured all gut issues. As meat leaves the stomach liquefied why add loads of fibre? Your intestinal tract is not a 10 lane motorway and fibre will stretch the gut.
Meat is Great for now before paradise for the human body. I'm sorry to say this, but horse meat pressure cooked turns a person into a horse spirit and vigor ❤😂
Buckwheat has lectin, so how you prepare and get the lectins out
He says water kefir but shows pictures of milk kefir grains. NOT the same thing, people!
Buckwhear is fantastic, people dont understand it, they only need to know that buckwheat need to be hydrate and thats all, hydrate buckwheat before you consume it. ❤❤

Do we need to eat the unripe plantain raw? Or could it be cooked too?
