      As a lifelong Judy fan and seeing her in person twice I can sincerely tell you that that movie was crap!!! They took 10 years of Judy's troubles and made it seem like all this happened during her Talk of the Town engagement. It's just not true. That engagement had 95 percent excellent reviews. Please... Forget the movie!! God love you Judy Garland!!!!

    Even Judy"s late in life voice here is still mesmerizing and superior to some of the present singers in their prime! SHE ALWAYS owns the stage with a charisma unsurpassed!

    She can take any song and make it her own as if she herself had written it. Performing all her life, chewed up and spit out many times over, and she still gave such a sincere intimate performance of this thin but lyrical song. One of my favorite albums of all times at Judy at Carnegie Hall.

    Thanks very much for the kind words about the audio restoration. Scott Brogan, who runs The Judy Room, did a great job pairing the restored audio that I did to the existing video for this item ("His is the Only Music That Makes Me Dance") as well as the duet with Liza ("Happy Days Are Here Again/Get Happy"), which can be seen in another The Judy Room video. There were two of these joint Judy and Liza concerts at the Palladium, which were something like 10 days apart. Both were supposedly taped in full by Capitol Records. When we were looking at what we could find of these two concerts a couple of years ago, we discovered that both mother and daughter were in far better form at the second concert (as evidenced by these two videos), yet most of the Capitol release was inexplicably taken from the first concert, where Judy sounds like she was sick. By the time of the second concert, it appears that she had substantially recovered. We also discovered that the audio version that has circulated privately among collectors, said to be the second concert, is actually a combination of the two. There had to be some explanation for Capitol's choice of the poorer concert for release, but we don't know what it was. Many people regard this Palladium album as the low point among Judy's Capitol recordings. As shown by the second concert, she had not lost her voice--she was just way off form, undoubtedly sick, for the first concert.

      MORE. Scott has the dates right. The second concert was a week after the first. And Scott is of course right that the 55 minutes of the second concert is what survives of it, at least that we can hear. I do recall that both concerts were taped by Capitol. I will have to see where I read that.

      Sick, Judy was at least a hundredfold better than others in tip-top form.

      I've heard she was hoarse in some of the footage bc she had been rehearsing all day as well. So her voice was warn out from that.

      The quality of this video is so very much more clear and the sound is also beautifully restored like it was just recorded yesterday! Please, is there any chance that you will continue your work and restore the entire concert? This would be a very great and awesome addition to the Judy Garland legacy!🤗🥰💌

    I know all too well (having been a Garland fan since somewhere around 1962?) that this concert was not one of her best, but - for whatever reasons - I keep coming back to this concert... Something about this concert (THESE concerts) fascinate me... Maybe because it's somewhere between her TV series (which I love) and everything-that-was-to-come-after... Her voice on this concert was ragged, for sure - but... like others have mentioned here - not as ragged as I remembered. Thanks for posting this - THANKS for the EXCELLENT remastering... and yes - I love this.

    I’m just amazed to find that this footage exists of Judy beautifully singing this great song! I’ve heard the audio track which was released at some point on a compilation album of rare recordings. And, I’m delighted to now see it, too. Thank you for sharing it! ❤❤❤

    • @charliechilders6630
      @charliechilders6630 Рік тому +2

      Me too! However, when Judy sang this song from the Broadway production of "funny girl" , Barbra for some reason, never ever sang/or performed this song ever again! Maybe it was a tribute to her biggest and her most beloved star. (Who she had idolized since her childhood). I truly think that judy's version is much better). When Barbra was asked why she has never recorded the great torch song "if he walked into my life today" from the Broadway musical "mame", she quickly answered "this song belongs only to Eydie gorme' (who incidentally had won a Grammy award with this song for the best performance by a female singer in 1967). She also said, " I could never sing this song better or anywhere near as good!"

    JUDY GARLAND la plus grande chanteuse de tous les temps, elle incomparable, son vibrato de légende, cette manière d'interpréter une chanson, la force de l'émotion. Dans ses rôles au cinéma, elle ne joue pas, elle est, ils sont très peu a faire cela.

    This is a beautiful arrangement of a lovely song. Even though her voice is a bit rough, she is magic! [An aside: I recognize her outfit from her TV show-I can’t remember which episode-she was known for reusing those costumes in her later concerts]

      It looks like the shirt she wore when she sang with Liza on her show.

    • @akrenwinkle
      @akrenwinkle Рік тому

      @@mckenzieprice2270 It is. Judy also wore it at other venues, such as the Arie Crown Theater. She wore another costume from her series when she appeared on the Ed Sullivan show, and when she married Mark Herron. As Bob Mackie said of her, the lady never had any money, and so he made things for her show that she could take home.

    I always thought it was such a shame that there was no really vocally superior recording of JG singing this, but this isn't as rough as I recall. Not her best, but not her worst, either. Shame the pipes were ragged for this concert.

    She is incomparable, of course, but good Lord, give an award to the conductor able to lead a band while she was so erratic. By the way the lyrics don't make a helluva lot of sense in the show or outside of it.

    • @stevepotfora7461
      @stevepotfora7461 2 роки тому +4

      The accompaniment is in a consistent and easy four, the melody is written in triplets- That is what is confusing your ear. As for the lyric, it is perfect soaring poetry. She misses one word but is such a pro that she intrinsically knows not to correct it since it will interrupt the feel of the triplets .(In the LIGHT of two eyes that adore him).
