Thank you both for uploading this video, without it we wouldn’t have stopped over at Carcassonne Citadel, what an amazing place.

You're very welcome Richard..! This was one of my (Alison) favourites. I'm looking forward to us returning. I'm so glad you enjoyed it as much as we did.
Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

All caught up!! What an amazing town within the walls of the citadel. You can't beat wandering the side roads. Usually far more interesting than the main roads!

We always love the side roads and back alleys. So many less people and much more character.
You must have square eyes now guys. 😬
      Thanks for your dedication. 😘💜🤟

This video brought back so many fond memories for us, thank you. We had 2 full days here, staying down below the citadel walls and had an amazing view of it, especially at night. It really is otherworldly. Have a funny story of my wife attending mass in the basilica and a nun locking the entrance door at the beginning of the service and not letting anyone leave until the mass was completed. Some people were trying to leave, but the nun refused to open the door (we think it was to prevent other visitors from entering during the mass & disrupting proceedings). My wife also said the nun was a "camera nazi" as no photos were allowed as well.

      Hey Mark,
Carcassonne is probably one of my (Alison) favourite places on earth. It really does draw you in. We were so lucky to visit when there weren't many other tourists. It allowed for an exceptional first impression. 😍
Your wife sounds like a hoot. We are always respectful when entering a religious building during a service. As long as you don't use a flash, your phone or camera doesn't make a noise and you don't go wandering directly up to the altar and take photos whilst the sermon is being given, or block someone's view, I can't see the problem. 🤷🏼‍♀️ If the doors are heavy and make lots of noise opening and closing, I kind of get the having to wait to exit, but there should be a clear sign that it will happen.
We're (Well I am 😬) hoping to be able to pop in again on our way back into Spain.
Thanks so much for watching and enjoy our 'back catalogue' of videos as and when you get round to watching them.
Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

That castle and little city was Amazing!! When you guys walked up the old way I thought to myself. I wonder who else walked up that exact same way … waaay back when the castle was first built. What stories could be told by those walls.
Thank you for taking us along! ❤
P.S. that cheese plate with bacon and the big giant sandwich. My mouth watered 🤤 🤤

The whole of the Carcassonne citadel is like a fairytale castle. Our imaginations were firing on all cylinders walking round it. I (Alison) read a trilogy of books by Kate Mosse, called Labyrinth, Citadel and Sepulche. All set in and around Carcassonne, in various time frames. I was enthralled. I'm hoping that we can pop back again on our way back to Spain, to spend some more time there. 😍💜🤟

      Hi Gerald,
Yep, we certainly get around..! 🤣 Maybe UA-cam was suggesting that it would be a great idea for you to subscribe to our channel and see where else we have been. 😉🤭
Carcassonne citadel was a personal favourite of mine (Alison). Everything I adore in one place and as it was such a cold day when we went, it wasn't heaving with tourists either. We got to really make the most of our visit. The Chateau Comtal was busy, but most definitely worth it. It's also free to enter on the first Sunday of each month, from October to March, if I remember rightly.
We are currently planning our next big adventure, heading to Türkiye and back to Spain, that will take us 2 years from the end of September this year. Scary and exciting stuff.
All joking aside, thanks for watching our Carcassonne vlog, we really loved making it.
Much love, Alison and Darren 💜🤟

Buenos días Ana, Darren hace todo el trabajo mientras viajamos, desde una computadora portátil. Yo (Alison) no trabajo.

Amazeballs!! If you have not yet visited it, you have to go to Mont Saint Michel, near St Malo. You go down those side streets because you are travelers, not tourists - "The traveler sees what he sees. The tourist sees what he has come to see" G.K. Chesterton - we learned in Italy, the difference between a Basilica and a church - originally the term Basilica, in ancient Rome and pre-Christian Italy, were large roofed open buildings used as markets, courthouses, covered promenades, and meeting halls Now, .Basilica, in the Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox churches, is a title of honour given to church buildings that are distinguished either by their antiquity or by their role as international centres of worship because of their association with a major saint, an important historical event, or, in the Orthodox Church, a national patriarch.

      Good morning Paulette,
We haven't visited yet, but it's on our list, along with its smaller twin, St Michael's mount. Glad you liked Carcassonne. 😍💜🤟

The "cult" thing was definitely a lost in translation thing. The term "worship" would have been more appropriate here. In French, what English refers to as "cult", is called "secte". 😁 It's a faux-ami. "fake friend", a word that sounds the same but has a slightly different meaning. Also, a basilica is a church commissioned by a "basileus" (king) or granted privileges by the Pope (King of the Church).

Brilliant. Thanks so much for the clarification. We thought it probably was, but it still made us chuckle.
Can you also tell us what the difference is between a church and a Cathedral..?!? It doesn't always seem to be down to just size.
      💜🤟

@@findingxanadulife A church is a regular place of worship under the care of priest; a cathedral (catholic) is the seat of a diocese, or geographical division, and is under the care of a bishop who oversees all the churches in that diocese. Some cathedrals are seats to an archbishop who is the "boss" to several bishops. 😅
