That was a great series!! I've watched every one of their historical series at least 3 times over. The Edwardian Farm and Victorian Farm were excellent!!
It's good to see how the castle is coming along, I have been following it's progress for about 8or9 years. Such wonderful craftsmanship. Good to see the old skills are still alive. Notice how relatively quiet the site is compared to a modern building site😊
@@LAtelierdelaSentinelle Yep. Much nicer than drills, jackhammers, truck engines, and the inescapable "reversing beep" of modern construction sites x'D
awesome! they have done so much! love watching the secrets of the castle with Ruth Goodman! hello from Cobourg Ontario Canada, thanks for sharing this!
Amazing video, I haven't seen so much new content about the castle in English for a while. Thank you for the commentary and I hope you had an amazing time there!
Using the old tools and methods used back in the time when so much man power became the necessary way to get it done..you have brought back what was authentic in that time..a beautiful castle..merci.
Thank you, thank you SO much for this video. Now we can see how much progress has been made since Ruth Tom and Peter showed us work in Guidellon. Excellent video and commentary!!
Thank you for posting this! I recognize some of what you showed from the British documentary series that was done several years ago. It's nice to see how much progress has been done since then.
Well done, I watched the whole making of this castle video & it was an epic watch, went for a few hours, I highly recommend giving it a watch as they had to make everything from scratch.
Thank you. Keeping up with this project isn't easy for an English-speaker who isn't inclined to travel. I've tried to keep up since the very earliest days but so much content is silent or in French. When I first found this project, they had basically nothing built and were still working on outbuildings and infrastructure. I check in every six months or so, looking for new content.
I know it is a difficult thing to pull off, but I wish it was bigger, not for the glamour, but so we can have more things like hidden passages, storages, nice tower rooms.. idk things we see in games. if I were rich or having some money spare I'd support the expansion or a new project to create more jobs related to REAL art, tradition and good enviroments.
Thank you for the update. It is so hard to stay in touch from far off Australia. We first heard of Guedélon about 10 years ago. We were able to visit it one very hot July day in 2019 and fell in love with the whole concept. Your video has shown what new works have been done plus a few things that we could not see the day we were there.
👍👌👏 Oh WOW, simply fantastic! This is a very, very well done video. You showed several things that haven't been shown before (at least not that I know of). I watch everything about the fascinating Guedelon castle and village. I always wonder why there aren't more videos available. Especially why there are no constant updates. Therefore I am very thankful that you and your father did this. Again: Thanks a lot for making narrating explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards, luck and health in particular. To both of you of course.
Found out about the castle at the start of the pandemic, i imagine it would take decades but suddenly popped up in ny head yesterday and it is almost finished!
Brilliant, thank you. I have been "visiting" this castle via youtube videos for years, watching the slow progress. The locking beam holes (6:00) and inside of the gate tower (6:45) are both things I've not seen before. Also, the stone cone in the courtyard (8:15) is new to me, as is the stone hut in the quarry (1:05). What are they for?
The ropes used for heavy lifting is NOT made in Guédelon. All saftey precautions are based on modern standards to not take any risks. So the thick rope is certified to make sure no accidents occur due to "homemade"and not quality proven rope.
You're right, sorry for the inaccuracy. However the ropes made on the spot could potentially serve this purpose if we actually were in medieval context
You can start by reenactment! There is nothing better than to do it for real. I realized that after forging a sword in Minecraft... forging a real knife is much more thrilling and the item is still there when you close the computer
Well, I never saw an iphone in sight. These people are very professional while at work. On top of that, the iphone would probably get ruined very early.
Well, you need to do that to put the linen windows on. They fit into the stone frame, this way you can put the windows on and take them out. Something I heard is that the windows could be moved along with the nobles, from one castle to the next
Congratulations to Jim Bishop, but the two projects have nothing in common. Jim Bishop's castle has more connexion with the "Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval", built in France between the end of the XIX° century by a single postman. Have a look : it is very beautiful and interesting. Have a good day !
I came to this video after Ruth, Tom, and Peter.... IYKYK.
That was a great series!! I've watched every one of their historical series at least 3 times over. The Edwardian Farm and Victorian Farm were excellent!!
I watched that video and when i saw the chapel window in this one i realized how long it has actually been, their documentary was released in 2014 !
Very good series, I wish they did something like that again. Happily I can supplement a little bit this lack
I was suggested this video after the 2022 video of the _Kirsten Dirksen_ channel.
I certainly know indeed. Love that series.
It's good to see how the castle is coming along, I have been following it's progress for about 8or9 years. Such wonderful craftsmanship. Good to see the old skills are still alive. Notice how relatively quiet the site is compared to a modern building site😊
It is not quiet, hearing the stone cutters, the blacksmith, the animals... but they are much more enjoyable aounds
@@LAtelierdelaSentinelle Yep. Much nicer than drills, jackhammers, truck engines, and the inescapable "reversing beep" of modern construction sites x'D
Compared to a modern site yeah it's definitely quieter and definitely more enjoyable.

Bravo! It is coming on. Thank you for the update. 😎👍🏻🏴Hapoy St. Andrew’s Day!
Thank you so much for showing an update to the castle! Very informative and interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it!

I was just a visitor, I hope to be parts of the crew one day!
It's one of my dreams to visit this castle one day. Thank you for this video.
Several years ago i walked and climb all over seeing first hand how it was done. I hope to return one day!
I have the chance to be able to go there each time I visit my grandfather.
You’ll die before then g
Lovely to see how things are coming along. Thank you so much for the update. ❤
Was wanting to see what the castle looks like now thank you for the great video!
It's a pleasure!

Thanks for taking the time to film, edit and share!
What an amazing amazing project, bravo à vous
We visited Guedelon many years go. So much progress has been made since then! I have always maintained my interest in this fascinating project.
I first came to know of it in a Kirsten Dirksen video from 2022. I would really love to see it.
I totally agree!
Merci, It is a great project which I have been following for years. Perhaps I will visit the castle this year. Thanks again.
great video, I felt like I was traveling in time. thank you!
I'm happy you liked it!
Great video ! We went there yesterday. Amazing place and techniques. Nice montage, thank you for making this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That blacksmith shop would be a ton of fun to just mess around for a day in. If I lived there I’d volunteer a little lol.
I want to, but not this year
Very informative and detailed documentary. May the Lord bless you all! We are hoping and praying for better weather conditions to be able to travel
Thank you!
Well done, I watched the whole making of this castle video & it was an epic watch, went for a few hours, I highly recommend giving it a watch as they had to make everything from scratch.
Great video, thank you for the tour. I'd love to visit Guedelon myself one day.
It's a beautiful place and the guys there are very knowledgeable!
Lovely tour, Ive been following this construction for years, they are making quick work. I wish it was the 13th century again :D
Thank you for the comment! Appreciate it!
Terrific video! Thank you for posting and showing inside the castle and the workmen's areas.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good job! I've been following for years online & really enjoyed your update on the project! Excellent presentation and filming, commentary, etal.

WONDERFUL video!!!!
Thank you very much!
i hope i can travel to see this someday! so cool:)
It's worth it!
Merci pour ce e beau reportage 💖
Avec plaisir
Thank you for posting. Seems to be coming along well. I wonder how much work got done during Covid. I liked the window alcove with the fireplace.
I have no clue, I don't think much to be honest
Brilliant thanks. Looks beautiful there.
It really is!
What a wonderful place! Watching from the Philippines. I wish I could visit there sometime in the future.
You will love it, it's truly unique

Thank you for the update on this intriguing place. It is nice to 'visit' with you even though I can't go myself. P.S. Hi to your Dad :)

Yeah being that far is not the best to keep in touch
This is magnificent.
Thanks a lot, although you probably speak of the castle and not the video!
Somebody is playing Anno in real life... cool.
love this idea and the rationale behind it.
Not totally wrong 😂

The ropes made on site are not used for heavy lifting. All heavy lifting is done with modern ropes, with known breaking points.
Of course

Amazing! I want one for myself. Please someone make a videogame where I can build a castle with so many details as this one.
You can start by reenactment! There is nothing better than to do it for real. I realized that after forging a sword in Minecraft... forging a real knife is much more thrilling and the item is still there when you close the computer
@@LAtelierdelaSentinelle good point! I agree
I would love to buy this place if it ever comes up for sale
I sincerely hope it won't
11:42 i think i remember that from the show.
18:12 is that the same wheel Peter and that other guy used?
I think it is, as far as I know they didn't change it since it had been built
It would be interesting to be touring the Tile workshop when one of them took a call on their iPhone
Well, I never saw an iphone in sight. These people are very professional while at work. On top of that, the iphone would probably get ruined very early.
They still aren't finished? I swear I saw a documentary about this like in 2008.
It will still take time :)
the ropes for the lifting are modern made (for safety reasons)
Of course
I really appreciate this video, it has helped me a lot on a project I am working on! Any chance you know what the stone cone thing is at 8:15?
As far as I know, they just had fun, maybe it's storage while building the walls
Are they going sail ⛵️ to Venice to buy/trade glass for windows 🪟 🤔?
I don't think so, they consider that glass is too expensive for the lord of the castle
🏰👑⚔️🛡️⚜️⚜️⚜️🛡️⚔️👑🏰
Great video Chris!
Is there an estimate of how much it has cost to build so far?
I don't think it would mean anything, because a lot of the workers work for free.
Looks like 5 000 000 a year
they are building it from the scratch?
Yes. All resources are received in their raw form, like wood, stone, lime, ect. They do use modern safety equipment though.
How many work on the building at any one time?
I have no clue, but it might be on their website
How do you say awesome in french?
Incroyable !
Why are they making the window tracery out of wood & not stone?
Well, you need to do that to put the linen windows on. They fit into the stone frame, this way you can put the windows on and take them out. Something I heard is that the windows could be moved along with the nobles, from one castle to the next
imagine all the larp events that will happen here
Unfortunately I don't think that will happen before years, maybe in winter, but that doesn't seem to be the goal
I think it's also the ONLY castle being built.
The only one with historical techniques
8:50 Why is masonry so different? Even stones are different!
Well it's two different periods of construction, the stones they harvest in the quarry are not all of the same colour.
? You aren't the La Lida Loca guy?
I don't think so!
I wish France was be a Royalist Country today.
Its such a shame its not.
The Monarchy.
What's the difference? Most monarchy nowadays are parlementary anyways. No big difference
I think you need a new camera or settings, this video is like 5 fps
With all due respect
It comes from my editing software, at the moment I am in trial version until I get more serious with it
