❤ Thank you ❤ this is super helpful. I have brain fog from a few illnesses I deal with. I want to share what my therapist Dennis Dozier had taught me forever ago. 1. Be Kind to yourself. 2. Be Gentle with yourself. 3. Don't Judge yourself. 4. Learning to ride the waves vs. fighting the waves. 5. Like being on a beach I can recognize the waves and prepare. The other one he taught me but I corrected and he understood was Accept. I changed it to Acknowledge. Because I believe accepting is my being OK with whatever. When in fact I am NOT Ok with whatever. But acknowledging the situation means that I see it. I can learn from it and NOT be ok with it. If that makes sense. Thank you again for all your helpful videos!!! Sincerely Heather Armstrong.

Since I'm a writer and my entire job is thinking and forming new ideas, brain Fog has been my worst enemy over the past few years. First, it was from Covid-19 then I had a spinal fluid leakage that gave me a 4-month-long headache (which just made it hard to think), and then I started having it again recently because apparently because of my genetics salt makes the blood vessels in my brain contract. It's been a difficult battle I'm hoping I can overcome.

Boy you've been through a lot my heart goes out to you you're obviously very strong you've been through so much take a second and give yourself a break and for a moment think about how far you've come and everything that you've been through maybe you aren't quite where you want to be but it sounds like you're far from where you used to be I'm interested in what kind of writing you do?? I often referred to my brain fog as tangents where my thoughts jump from here to there and I just go off on tangents my analogy I think that's what it's called for this would be a tree and I start with the tree trunk and then I'll mention something and it will be a branch and then from that I'll go off on some other subject and it will be a branch of a branch and sometimes I'm on the wrong side of the tree and I think I just did that

@@jennifersimonian2103 Thanks that means a lot too me, usually I don't like to talk about all that because I don't want to be seen as a hypochondriac dude with 50 health problems. But I should learn better to look at those experiences as ways I've grown by overcoming them. Also I like writing short stories but have been working on bigger projects as of late, it's mostly just fantasy.

Brain fog and burnout are the two biggest causes of my quality of life since graduating university. Despite how much I plan or try, it feels like I can’t even hold myself accountable to achieve personal or professional goals. This form of failure has eaten away at me and led me to endless days of the same thing: staring at the ceiling and existing on autopilot while wondering “why did I end up like this?” It’s been overwhelming perceiving how my life is now compared to how I was before-to the point it feels like I’m trying to escape from a pit of rapidly drying concrete. I hope one of these days I can somehow help myself and find some way out of what feels like an inescapable jail of my own creation.

    • @NotSoParanoid
      @NotSoParanoid 5 місяців тому +6

Hey it's okay, it's okay to feel like that and you'll be fine. YOU WILL escape from that horrible place. Yk u can't just stay in bed all the time, you've got to get up, not for anyone else but yourself! And when you do get up maybe try doing things which make you happy, maybe cooking or talking with your friends/parents/partner or if not them then maybe get a pet? Any animal you want but if u ask me, I'd say a dog because in psychology there's a therepy(pet therepy)where people suffering from depression etc.are given dogs, the people play with them dogs and get really comfortable with them. They start to trust those loyal creatures thinking of them as their friend and someone they can always trust for they will be with you, waiting to be loved, cuddled and played with no matter what.
But anyways if these things dont work then please try going to a professional before this problem gets any worse.
Hope you get better again and remember, YOUR NOT ALONE!! There are people who care for you and love you and actually, after writing a whole bitchass essay for you, I realised that I care for you as well😉 so, don't loose hope, I'll be there if you wanna talk again sometime 🤍🤍
Also ANYONE who wants to talk can do so I ain't got no problem 😃

I am a college student majoring in a STEM field, and, tbh, it's rough out here. It's the the start of the semester, but my brain is already kicking into that "go go go" phase that I've been in since August. I never really understood why I was getting so frustrated with myself. I felt like I should have been able to better understand certain topics. Now, when I look back on my performance from last semester (even though I still did well), I realize that I was putting myself into this overdrive, and I felt terrible if I wasn't doing work. I literally worked myself into brain fog and, possibly, burnout.
It's always easy to know when you need a break, but it's hard to take that break because you "just want to get a little more work done." Even though my classes are harder this semester (specifically Anatomy and OChem 2), I know I need to give myself a break. Otherwise, I'll be less productive and not fully retain material to the best of my abilities.

It felt like I had a harder time picturing things in my head or remembering smaller details or remembering things that had happened recently. I started eating healthier foods lately and found that it helped quite a bit. My mind feels a lot more clear now.

Less than a minute in and I was already thinking "uh oh..." Yeah brain fog is definitely the perfect way to describe it. I just feel kinda numb and unfocused all the time, like my brain is... well... _foggy._
Lately I've been really struggling to draw or write stories, even though I'm usually pretty good at that. It sucks, because I want to want to draw but can't focus or find the motivation to do it. Its a combination of art-block, brain fog, and probably a hint of depression.
Its very frustrating and unfortunately I do make the mistake of hating myself for it, because it feels like I can't do anything I used to be good at, and I procrastinate 24/7. Most days I waste way too much time on UA-cam or playing video games, often times a combination of both... Though that multitasking is a huge contributor to my frazzled mental state, since I struggle to take breaks when I should. Wearing headphones most of the day doesn't help, and neither do my constant allergies.

Exactly, I also feel unfocused a lot lately, like my brain is foggy and I have trouble in school concentrating and also doing things fast or I also forget many things and have trouble organising everything and making decisions and clearly thinking 😞 also for me I like more scientific things like space for example and lately I lost my passion for it and I lost passion for other things as well, I just don't really feel motivated which is weird, because usually I can think about these things more clearly and I don't have to put all that effort into it, that's why I really like these things but lately I can't really concentrate on them and I feel motivated only sometimes. I also noticed that lately I got worse in my English lessons at school because we do everything very fast and I always do things slowly but recently I do them even slower and have trouble concentrating on my tasks, so lately my score on a mock test wasn't so good, and others did very well and I am frustrated because of that 😞 I really don't know why I feel this way but I really want to think clearly again without this stupid brain for or whatever this could be, and I could do everything to make it disappear, I feel like I'm so dumb

I’ve had it for almost 3 years due to a doctor raising the doses of my medications & adding more meds instead of looking into other options. I did the dumbest thing by quitting all my meds cold turkey (NEVER DO THIS WITH PSYCH MEDS) and never seeing him again. Now I am so happy with who I am without meds however the brain frog is something I cry about & fight with constantly. I haven’t found a way to fix it. I live with it everyday and it’s horrible. I don’t know where to start looking for health. Brain fog makes me feel like things aren’t real so I can’t be mentally present. I forget little details and even big ones. For example; memories with my s/o or family, things I learned 2 months ago in college that I know have an exam for, memories with family & even more. When I forget them even if I try to remember when someone is telling me or I see a video/picture of it, it’s like it never happened. It also messes with my sleep habits, eating habits, self care, & just enjoying life. It has hindered so much for me. If anyone knows where I can start looking for help that would be great. For the mean time I’ve have been begging & praying for God to heal me.

Me same. I've suffered with brain fog and memory issues for some years now. I have thought it was caused by a combination of taking anti-depressants and/or the anti-anxiety meds since my mid 20s... I am 44 yrs old now.
I just watched a couple of videos that suggest eating too much artificial sugars like in baked goods and processed foods could be the culprit.
I admit that I do eat A LOT of junk food and sugary snacks. I notice that the foggy brain makes me crave it so I can get energy. but it's so unhealthy. I really want to do a low-carb "diet" to see if it will help me feel better, but I am constantly struggling with not eating sweets.

Thank you for this video because for the past few month I’ve been feeling so shut down and disorganised😵‍💫. I been trying to push through and figure out more way to get back into my groove but I feel like it just made my anxiety worse 😵‍💫😵‍💫. A break is ok and learning that relaxing is alright ❤. I’m usually in the gym and working on projects but I’ve hit the breaks….. meditation in the sauna brings some ease to my day.

Perhaps to best way I personally get over procrastination or similar habits is by getting away as far as I can from the task during my breaks. Just like you guys suggest, I always try to focus on a seperate activity, whether that be walking, cleaning dishes, reading, or even listening to music. Anything works, as long as it distracts you from the task. Of course, im not encouraging people to simply avoid their responsibilities, but at the same time we often find ourselves overwhelmed ann oversaturated, which consequently makes it hard to focus in the task at hand.
Self-worth is just as important as self-discipline, a principle we often tend to overlook, so just remember that as important as your work may be, your health is paramount.

ive been having a lot of problems with brain fog for so many years, sometimes it clears up just enough to not be a problem, but most of the time, it is impossible to break the brain fog and get a clear head.
i suspect i know what it is, but im too poor financially speaking to do anything about it, and thats basically my diet and environment. i'd need at least 2.5k to completely redo my bedroom and make it look so much more organized than before, but only make around 950/mo. to make stuff worse, i don't eat enough nutritional food to even break a dent, and ive been too mentally tired to even cook anything for myself.
its a constant cycle that has been very hard to break, so thanks for uploading this psi!

Listening to specific types of music helps me with brain fog immensely. When I'm bored or have to get something done, I put on some calm music and just start doing whatever I need to do. I use it during times of introspection as well, as my thoughts aren't as jumbled when I'm listening to it. I also have music that helps me daydream as well. My playlist is kinda split between both of them.

In the first months, I felt that my mind was exhausted and struggling as I cannot keep up. But as time passed, I got the hang of it but I also noticed that my brain tends to lag from time to time and at home, I lose focus a lot more often. Thanks Psych2Go! I am unemployed and stay at home so I experience brain fog a lot. I've found that sleeping (even just a 20-30 minute power nap) helps or just sitting in a quiet room meditating or listening to soothing music helps also. Also, oddly, watching videos like these or streaming some of my favorite shows helps (I try to watch some sort of crime show or documentary I like that I know is gonna stimulate my mind). And it helps having an inside puppy that is rambunctious to play with and talk to (even if sometimes she does cock her head to the side confused like she has no idea what I'm talking about...don't worry girl I don't either half the time 🤣🤔🐶🤦‍♀)

Kristen Neff’s books about self-compassion can be life altering. I come by brain fog thanks to multiple chronic illnesses. The only way I can cope is to stop and rest my brain whenever stuff gets jumbled, even if I’ve only been at it for a few minutes. When my brain refuses to understand what someone is saying, my guy takes over and explains. People rarely understand what I’m experiencing, but that’s not my fault or yours when it happens to you.

I noticed several years ago that school was becoming harder for me when I used to do really well. I thought it was burnout, but maybe it was early indicators of the illnesses that I hadn't been diagnosed with yet.

There is a breathing technique to ease the symptoms of brain fog which I use a lot: Breathe in halfway (superficial), breathe out, hold on empty lungs for 5 seconds, repeat. If it feels uncomfortable, it is working. If it feels terrible or painful, stop the exercise. If you feel like the exercise is working, but hard to do for longer than you would wish, take one deep breath to be able to continue 🌬️

Brain fog can be persistent, like from to an attention disorder, like ADHD. (Or from various other conditions, whether short-term or chronic.)
I struggled with almost constant brain fog for most of my life. Only an adrenaline rush seemed to lift it for a short while. It was my norm, so I didn't even know that it was something that was wrong with me, besides having trouble with memory and attention.
When I got diagnosed with adult ADHD and started on stimulant meds, half of the brain fog lifted. In later started on a non-stimulant that's an SNRI (selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor), and it lifted the entire brain fog. I haven't had it since, except for when in had pneumonia, and when I've been sleep deprived.
