    I love Toyota but the Colorado ZR2 is the best value for an extremely powerful and capable mid size truck.

    Colorado easily wins in design imo, but the Tacoma being available in an Xtracab long bed configuration makes it more appealing to me personally.

    Honestly the midsize truck market is red hot right now between the colorado, tacoma, ranger and even the nissan pro4x. However, after waiting years to pull the trigger, I'm going with the Tacoma. Over the years I've owned many brands of vehicles and Toyota has always stood out and the Toyota tax has always applied. Its too early to outright claim dependability for the tacoma, but they've got a proven track record and I absolutely love the new interior.

      I was excited to buy the new Taco. watch TFL blow the front diff of their brand new one up though, climbing a mild hill. looking deeper into it, it looks like toyota reliability is a total sham, at least when it comes to the new gen tacomas and tundras. now i have no idea what i'll buy, but ZR2 colorado is at the top of the list.

    • @jackcrackerman
      @jackcrackerman 4 місяці тому +3

      @@lgbnz meanwhile my friends brand new Chevy has spent more time at the dealership than in his hands and he's about to initiate the lemon law to get rid of it. As far as Toyota reliability, I have a Toyota now, it's my second one and they've been very reliable for me. For sure TFL broke their ADD, but as far as I can tell, they are the only ones and even Toyota said it shouldn't have broken with what they were doing. Others have taken their Toyota into stickier situations and have had positive results, so I'm just chalking that up to a fluke. It's too early to say yet that the Tacoma 4th Gen is a dud based on a single break out of hundreds of thousands of trucks.

    • @lgbnz
      @lgbnz 4 місяці тому +3

      @@jackcrackerman not saying that chevy is reliable. toyota may have the benefit of the doubt for its long history of quality and reliability, but the trucks coming out of Mexico are showing smoke. TBD if there's fire. but it stopped me from buying a new Taco, I will have to revisit options later.

    Was also faced with this decision a couple weeks ago. Was really only interested in a new taco but when I went to test drive one the dealer told me they weren't even expecting them until summer. I was gonna wait but on my way home I stopped into Chevy to see what they had...which was almost nothing as well😂. But they did have probably the very last brand new 23 colorado Z71 possibly in the state. At first the juxtaposition was odd because I was definitely preparing to get a taco and the styling is so different but once I got used to it I honestly preferred the more luxury look and feel of the Colorado. So I ended up going with that and the very next week Toyota called to say they got some 24 Tacomas in. I don't regret my decision and I saved some money.

    I like the Colorado body and front more than the Tacoma, especially the grill. As for which I prefer...I have spent 20 years not happy with Chevy (all I could afford with a part-time job and full-time school were junker Cavaliers, and now have a very mediocre Cruze), but for price, design, and assets/capability then I would consider Colorado over Tacoma.

    I own a 2017 TRD Sport. Also just got a 2024 Canyon. Paid 31.5 K for the Tacoma when new. Similar one new was stickering out at around 47k. Just couldn't do it when I could get a well equipped Elevation for 40k that had in my opinion a better engine (and looks too). Time always tells of course.

    In January 2020 I purchased a brand new 2020 Tacoma SR 4wd/ 4 doors with a regular size bed. It drove awful. It had issues starting. It wouldn't start when turning the key. When I took it to the dealer they said " that's normal with the new models " well not too long after that Toyota recalled over 100000 vehicles due to bad fuel pumps. The interior of then my Taco' felt so cheap and poorly assembled. There was imperfections and gaps in the door panels and dashboard. THE transmission made the engine rev really high. Long story short I sold it that same year.

      @@MrHand-ih4sz i drove both a 2021 and the new 2024 its a night and day difference when it comes to handling. the 2024 is way better in comfort and the way it steers they also fixed the seating position for the 2024 year model so it doesnt feel like your laying down in it. its so much better then what it use to be. the only thing i'd say toyota is still struggling with as the previous model is fit and finish problems. i personally didn't notice anything at all in mine. but I've seen plenty of videos of people with the new tacoma that have large gaps in-between spots on the new one.

    Chevy might be the better value here but in past generations one could buy the Toyota, take it for a one year test drive then get back most of your money. That said Toyota dropped the ball with their stupid pricing. Enthusiasts won't care and just fork the $$ over. They will not be bringing in many new buyers that are just comparison shopping. Should have kept the prices more competitive. I'm a 2022 TRDOR Tacoma owner and I'm sitting this new generation out. Not paying $10k more for the same truck and trim level I have now. Plus I like my V6 for the time being even if its not as refined as this new Tacoma. If I HAD to buy a new truck tomorrow I might be looking at a Colorado.

    Price alone will cause the tacoma to lose all these type of comparison tests. Toyota used to be a decent deal but now has gotten extremely greedy and will just continue to use their buyers to pay for their mansions and yachts. Their profit margins have got to be through the roof.

    Pay 5k more for a Tacoma and don’t even worry about it. Cause in 5 years you’ll sell it for $35k and the Colorado will either be in the shop or selling for $15-$18k

    I like the Toyota the exterior and interior are not over the top and at the end of the day this is just a truck to haul your family around. These manufactures have to stop putting all this luxury garbage into there trucks, if i want luxury i would of just bought a German car.
