I was taking lessons from dimebag right before this album came out. He stop teaching right after . True Shredder.
thats a cool story bro, youre lucky man:)
Yeah man you're lucky to get lessons from Dime, true legend.
So lucky, nice one bro \,,/
He used to eat those slim jims and ride his bike around all the time and he had that big head of hair 😁🎸🎸🎶
Dude no way!! What was it like?? Did you have any videos? What was he teaching you?
My god that guy was possessed. Even at that young age he was a master at that guitar
Most of the 80s/90s masters of shred were already entering their primes in their teens.
Diamond Darrell leaving the 80’s greats in the dust at 18.
I bet this kept a lot of the big players awake at night. Best 80’s player of all time.
Van Halen + Def Leppard + Judas Priest = early Pantera
PapaDanMrMetalMan bit of motley Crüe as well just a bit
Exacto!!!
Don’t forget kiss
And then they decided to go t
True God mode
And Scorpions
I saw them during these days. They rocked HARD! Darrell was being called Diamond back then, instead of Dimebag. The evolution of an icon right here folks!!
I couldn't tell you how many times I partied with them in that era. Nice guys too especially Diamond Darrell. I still have a pick he gave me one night. this is an ad from back then. >>> scontent-dft4-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/18425494_1689368304423781_5252602218722531454_n.jpg?oh=4afabbd464b78f11c7053765e9ae4bfb&oe=59AD9C97
lucky i was born in 1988
He was still calling Diamond in the early days of the Cowboys era. It's even on the album credits. I remember when people started calling him "Dimebag" & I would try to correct them! Haha
Nice!
@@RokDAWG1 I recall magazines like RIP referring to him as "Diamond" during the Cowboys tour supporting Judas Priest.
oh gawd, could Terry scream like a demon!!!! What an awesome voice!!
we all could scream like bitches when we were young... then our balls dropped...
Wow! It's PANTERA in their Glam days. I have some audio of this period but never saw any video, thanks
Ure welcome
I used to go to the club and see this once a month. And yur boy Phil was in Razor White and they came about once a month too. Madam x came once. I remember a band called 3D came a couple times. Sometimes Pantera was twice a month.
Lillian axe too
Stone Heart? Too. Other than seeing those bands I never went to bars.
Is there any Razor White video live with Phil?
Even at this early stage, Darrell's shredding was clearly what nudged them past a lot of other acts of the same period. Vinnie also sounds very tight here.
Hey! It was Terry's great voice and stage presence that got them the crowds!
Diamond was about 16 at this time
Terry was no slouch.
I prefer Phil but Terry kills it.
@@marktrux1 probably 17-18, but that doesnt matter:)) he played few years back then and was technically master of this guitar.
never saw pantera with phil. saw these guys at six flags twice. lol. a small club in arlington and maybe a few more times here and there. the childhood of this band was simply put, amazing. Dime was this band. RIP DIME
0:00 All over Tonight. 3:41 Like Fire. 7:51 Dime`s solo 15:00 Over the hills and far away (Led Zeppelin cover). 16:38 Eruption (Van Halen cover). 18:55 Out for Blood. 22:21 Heavy Metal Rules! 27:25 Widow maker.
I Love Diss classic PanterA , RIP Dimebag & Vince , Legends 4 real ?
Man was he on fire, even back then so freakin awesome!
Starting at 9:45 this is a cover of Quiet Riot's Battle Axe, and a very clean one at that! Very impressive playing from the one and only Dimebag Darryl
Great catch. Dime is incredible of course but not enough comments on how amazing vinnie is at shredding those electronic drums!!!!
This is about the time I saw them at Grayson County Electric Company in Denison, Tx. They changed their style radically over the next decade.
The mvp goes to whoever filmed this for capturing Diamond Darrell during his key moments. They must have known that Dime was making a name for himself at a young age and decided to film him at a show.
I miss these days as much as Dime did... I think. Watching Pantera with 15 other people was the highlight of my existence. That and the CFH video shoot.
Edit: Terry I miss you too. This the Pantera I first saw and love. They never disappointed. I'm so grateful that the rest of the world got to see them as well.
Projects in the jungle is a masterpiece album.. rip dime and vinnie
KILLERS!
to think he was 17-18 here is just crazy
Heroes never die, R.I.P Dimabag Abbott! you are my metal god!
I hear all of those early influences. KISS, Van Halen, Priest & Leppard all have great representation but they also have their own sound mixed in. It's weird to watch this & know that I was buying the albums out at the time. Those first 4 albums changed my life.
Época que o Pantera era gatinho 😀
Pantera in their glam rock days-before they had Phil Anselmo and went heavier, sound was more like Ratt and Dokken but you can hear the real beginnings of Dimebag's solo sound and style that influenced a hell of a lot of bands and is still a force to be reckoned with,,Sadly missed.
this is pure gold
The way his cover of eruption is so accurate. Back then one had to listen to the record over and over to learn a song.. Lucky if you got to watch the live concert. Shows how dedicated he was. Now every kid with one year of guitar experience learns how to play eruption thanks to tabs and yt.
Dimes version of eruption is not accurate to what ed originally did, there’s a lot of parts and licks he glossed over and simplified. Personally i like dime’s interpretation, he did his own thing with it and still had the evh vibe/flair going
Holy Shit they were amazing as a Glam band! That's coming for both a Glam and Thrash fan! I wonder what would happened in an alternate universe where they got a major label deal in the 80s
Yeah, really. Would've been great if they had got a major label back then already. I was really let down when Terry left and they went thrash and the Pantera glam metal days were over... but then glam metal died out soon thereafter anyway, and well, that was 33 years ago and that's not my thing anymore anyway.
But nice to find the memories here on UA-cam.
@@Xianne027 almost 40 years now.
@@GenerationDown Shut up! You're making me feel old! 🤪
@@Xianne027they never went thrash, they are groove metal, and no, them making their own unique genre is so much better than being another glam band like everyone else, also they would’ve fell off hard once glam died and never would’ve amounted to much, regardless of dimes playing
I don't think there are many guitarist out there now that can play as smoothly and with that kind of passion Dime did here at only 18yrs old.the greatest n not just talking metal guitarist ever.R.IP DIME miss and love you brother
RIP Vinnie your reunited with your brother rocking again
Heavy Metal Rules....my favorite from the glam days. Love playing it as well.
Glam mention is apocryph for Pantera
Heavy metal rules
That it
Not what I expected, but I still dig it. They nailed the big hair sound.
Legendary footage
I’ve watched tons of early 80’s live videos and this is by far the cleanest, clearest and best sounding one I’ve seen.
I love diss classic PanterA ! RIP Dimebag & Vinnie Paul Abbott . Legends 4 real .
This is so kickass, thnxs alot for sharing.Never knew about this early Pantera till now.Im blown freaking away.
my pleasure bro
the 80's Will be a lot fun in my dreams when I go to sleep every night.🤘💕🤘
🤘💕🤘
So clear for 84 Thanks for uploading the video some people would never have seen this gem known as glamtera
Glad they didn't sign a major deal then. They would have been buried with all the other glam bands.
No because the music wasnt glam.
But heavier , more speed , more virtuoso
They were already getting heavier at each record and that was the reason they didnt have a mahor deal until 1989
They had big hair , but much heavier than what the major by mimetism then wanted .
Darrell and Vinnie wanted a heavier sound and thats why phil came about.... some label might have told them to play love songs but they wouldn't have done it... what happened happened and Pantera turned into what it became....
@@Nissardpertugiuwym glam guys like Van Halen George lynch are literally virtuosos
I remember seeing them jamming in 1984 in Kileen Texas
Darrell--- was 18 here AMAZING 🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶🎶
Yeah honestly they play way better than like every other glam band, it's no wonder they became a thrash and eventually groove metal band. Pantera was just always awesome.
They never were glam .
Just because they had big hair and tights pants , uncultured people retro actively the label on anything where a shitloads of bands were dressed like this or worse ( Loudness ...Overkill in 1982 ...) .
Pantera was , even in metal forces and stuff described as Heavy metal and ...Power metal a bit later .
They were at that crossover of Van halen , Def leppard , Priest , Raven etc... if you listen closely it have already a bit Thrashier edge in the Metal magic song and taking root already on Project in the jungle ( title track , Out for flood , Killers ..) and it got updated as albums were released .
I am the night then Phil came out then Power metal was released , evolution was made , but Phil harder edge. Made Everything more hard edged .
Thats the biggest change .
No that much the music if we take it down
@@Nissardpertugiuyep and you basically had to dress like that or those record labels would ignore you, once they got a following they instantly went to plain clothes because they had the opportunity
The "unknown ballad" is over the hills and far away by Led Zeppelin
Saw a year ago i commented on this and here i am again, this is legendary
Awesome footage
Tremendo concierto!!!!
Diamond still has the Dimebag sound.
Man Jesus loves you, turn to him. What do you have to loose?
@@ScorpionMaster1224 your intelligence. but nice troll
Vinnie was beating those drums like they owed him money, too!
@@ScorpionMaster1224 ok and?
@@jack3609 nothing....idk why i said that....it was unnecessary, my apologies
Even when Pantera was a "Hair Metal" band, they still had an edge to their sound. Vinnie Paul and Dime sounded like Vinnie Paul and Dime! All it took was that madman from NOLA to create the legend!
Its because they never were hair metal and werent described as anyway even in 80's magazine .
They were heavy metal
@@Nissardpertugiu listen to Metal Magic and tell me that’s not a hair metal album. Nothing On But The Radio, Latest Lover, Tell Me If You Want It, Sad Lover. These are not heavy metal songs dude
@@hellspawnvicious9990 Having 3 Melodic hard rock numbers as Def leppard does it represent the main orientation of the band ?
Rock out , I'll be alright , metal magic ... not metal .
Hair metal is a bullshit term anyway .
That came into the mid 90's
Also Widowmaker , Very Pat travers ..
"Today metalheads " are funny .
Because you don't do a fucking 1 colored record monolithic , you re not heavy metal .
@@hellspawnvicious9990 and then does it represent all the trajectory of even the 4 albums ...
I mean All Over tonight , Out for blood , Project in the jungle , Heavy metal rules , Killers ? Not Heavy metal , its already Speed and thrashier popping out in there .
It was heavier definitly than Metal magic .
I am the night , Onward we rock , Down bellow , Right on the edge , Vallalah not metal ? Its heavier than Project in the jungle and Hints of What Pantera ended up to be are in Precision and embryo cleary .
The Power metal record , Not Metal ? It was definitly heavier than the rest and in league with Priest , Metal church , Exciter , Sanctuary you name it ! And leaning towards CFH too.
Man , What planet you live on and I wonder if you did your fucking homework from the late 60's , through the 70's and early 80's to claim such bullshits .
@hellspawnvicious9990 they evolved even back then. The differences between Metal Magic. Projects in the Jungle and I Am The Night are very noticeable. Especially I Am The Night...really geared more towards metal than the first two.
Glam pantera were sick. I used to hate glam, got into motley crue a year or so ago, now hearing glam might be making a comeback, hope so, hopefully with nasty guitar riffs and solos like this legend
It will never make a comeback lmao, maybe drag queen story hour rock with children but rock is dead, the industry has already made it clear they only care about rap and pop
May 1984. Darrell was 17 years old. Wtf!!!!
Apparently this is from April 27
Is nobody seriously talking about Vinnie Paul's hilariously awesome electronic hex pad kit?
Def leppard fashion
Wanted one of those for years. Magical.
thankyou!
pleasure to me
Awesome
saw him front row in harker heights often around this time. played like butter even back then. sold him strap on that guitar. great dude to know.
Muito bom !
I saw them in 86 in Houston TX they opened up for Helstar and Anthrax. I never heard of them then . And they were still like this , glam . Lol ! Dime was shredding ! This vocalist here sounds like Mark Slaughter. Lol !
Part at 14:09 sounds like middle part of Overdrive song "On the run"
Amazing Heavy Fuckin Metal. Should have been signed back then
The best forever!
He even made Eruption his own. No mistaking his touch. That really stands out when you hear so many people pulling out note for note copies these days
diamond darrell!!!amazing!
love every fuckin album
DAMN it's like RATT and DOKKEN had a rock baby .
Def Leppard and Van Halen mixed with a little bit of Metallica
I am really starting to get into early Pantera. This sounds like early Def Leppard.
When he starts the second part of the solo remind me of Jake E Lee with the figers spread wide out FUCKIN awesome
I believe that Dimebag was, and still is the greatest shredder ever!!! Hans down...
Very nice
I used to go see them at Matleys in Dallas @Skillman and Abrams...I would place my chair directly in front of Dime..3ft away...
Dime was playing eruption in 1984.......
Like the Texas answer to Ratt, with some of the speed metal of Obsession or Savage Grace thrown in. Solid band, even before their groove sound that made them famous!
I saw them in Daytona Beach in '94. Biohazard opened for them. I had no idea about their glam metal past. Ya learn something new everyday.
Damn, he was schooling all the glam and thrash metal guitarists of the 80's here. Even Van Halen could have learned something from him!!! R.I.P.
+socialdef3 van halen did actually become a fan of dime
What? He himself wants to become eddie..
@@richardlugo7009 Darrell was more a fan of Michael Schenker, Eddie riffs just kept asses in the seats
Wish I could've been there
What ever happened to this singer???? He's actually freakkin awesome !
He is! He went on to front a band called Lord Tracy that had one minor hit. A very party oriented band and not as heavy as even early Pantera, but I liked it. Since then I don't know where he's at. Search him or Lord Tracy here on UA-cam
He did a interview not too long ago, just look up his name then interview
Good quality
Even in the 90's after they got their first album deal they came back and played 2 occasions at the Sandpiper Lounge /Goochies stripclub. Went to a party at the same persons house both times and at about 4 in the morning its just me and Dime the last 2 survivors. It wasnt so strange the first time. But I let him know how ironic it was the second time cause it was just me and him like last time he was here, the only 2 troopers survivin. Then in 2003 I worked ozzfest in Dallas. Dime and vinnie were backstage but dime wouldnt even converse. Vinnie talked to me when I told him where and what clubs he didnt know me personally but knew my territory well. Needless to say when I told vinn8e about my buddys bad dream and for them to NOT GO PLAY ANY CLUBS I guess he just didnt remember.
I was 3 in 1984.
Even then they were the cream of the crop and at the top of their game.
Like Savatage
woow
Diss is a gem legendary PANTERA ! RIP DIMEBAG & Vinnie Paul Abbott ! PANTERA 4ever !
9:10 hahaha first few notes sound just like the start of one of the cemetery gates solos, you can see how Dimebag tought out these solos even years before he made them
Oh shit,. Vinnie has Electronic drums!
jajajajaj
Yeah he used them on a few of their albums at the time
dont get me wrong, i love pantera, but i am very very very happy they took things a bit more serious with the release of cowboys from hell and onwards... wow pantera did alter my life in a way
Throwing Rhoads in your guitar solo, homage to the King!
Dawe!
The first Night clube they ever played at was the ritz in dallas
shame there is not any footage of that:)
Every HM band should have a drummer like Pantera's...
Dimebag Darrell, what a guitarist !! A think about Randy Rhoads, close legacy, and the cover of Revelation Mother Earth final solo in Dime'solo is not there by chance.
Damn. Dime was only 18 here. Already on his way to being on top of the world. When i was 18 I wasn't doing shit with my life lol
i feel like im in a different dimension why am i just now figuring this shit out
projects in the jungle
Melhor fase para mim!!!! A segunda fase podrera não curto
unknown ballad is Over the hills and far away by led zeppelin
and part of 10 years gone at the end
I really like early Pantera, I think
it wasn't bad time for band.
I can't believe Vinnie used Simmons e-drums. 😮
all over tonight has this black sabbath-megalomania almost def leppard-let it go feel to it.
The glam stuff is cool but by not being popular they haven't died in the 80s like other glam bands am glad they changed their style
They didnt changed their style
They elvolved logically .
And they were heavy metal , not Glam band .
Vinny’s kit sounded like 80’s war drums.
Best band ever to be born!
The guy was only 18. Jesus
No, he was just 16. Yeah, amazing.
I was always there at their shows in Ft. Worth in those days. I knew them. We always called them "Jerry's kids" because they were so young and the father Jerry Abbott managed the band.
Lucky you!
...well, at the time we were all just young people hanging out in a nightclub, so it wasn't like we knew that one day they'd be famous... But yeah, those were great times! I'll never forgot it! They put on such great shows. They were the greatest band to ever hit DFW! Already as teenagers they were making a living from their music playing to sellout crowds in nightclubs all over Texas.
Xianne027 I always says i'm born in the wrong generation, because music today most of all sucks, and all the riff/songs are all copied from the famous band (pantera for example), people at the time have the dignity for making beautiful music and heave respect for the others, now today we have only war from each others.
I don't want to say i want back the old days, i just want those "little" elements that makes music great again.
No, back in the 80's it was also that way: every band also sounded just the same as the next (Dokken, Ratt, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, etc.), but Pantera was different, especially Darrell (aka Dimebag). He was special. He didn't every give a damn what people thought and he just played his heart out the way he wanted to. THAT was the secret to his success!
I remember him back then as a wild, fun teenager who just loved having a great time with his band and his music. He was so magnetic on stage, just full of energy! He was always nice to his fans during breaks too, smiling like, "Hey bro'! How's it going?" I just thought of him as a crazy kid, but ya know, others could learn a lot from him. He was always true to himself and his music, no matter what anyone else thought and that was the secret to his musical success and the loyalty of his fans. Though their heavier style with Phil wasn't my thing, I was always proud of them, my home boys, for making it to the top.
Like Metallica says, "Forever trust in who you are and nothing else matters" Darrell did that!
Yep once a month circle in the square Shreveport Louisiana.
I would stand down there an learn all I could. As a matter of fact behind the stage burnin down I would try to conv8nce him he needed a floyd instead of that weak sustain kahler.
Saw them at the Circle MANY times!! Those were awesome days for sure!!
Starts playing revelation mother earth's solo, the cheeky bastard 🤣 RIP Dime, you legend
All the RR riffs were awesome..
