Pantera 1987 Darrell Solo 2

- Darrell's solo from second show on this VHS tape. He does several Ozzy riffs and solos, a tribute to Randy. Amazing player that no one could touch in my book - especially considering the songs he went on to write. There is a reason Dave Mustaine asked him to join Megadeth around this time. Fucking legend, fucking wrote anthems, and I miss that motherfucker being around . . funny as hell too. I was blessed to have been able to see them 5-6 times live . .
UPDATE: OKAY I FUCKED UP ON THIS . . looking back at a Tour History site, I saw where they did a show at Arcadia on July 2, 1988. The reason that matters is Darrell mentions right before "Pussytight" that Phil's birthday had just happened (June 30, 1988), and only two days later they played this gig - I think it makes sense, right? It had to be this show. Also: they only played the one show at Arcadia for the whole of 1988. So the correct date on this show is (almost) certainly July 2, 1988. Sorry for the confusion. Wish some people had just written the date on the damn tape in the first place . . . get off my lawn!!
7:00 the outro of Floods. Sending shivers down your spine.
Crazy that he had that piece in mind for close to 10 years before he put it on an album
@@jasonbeamon2292I think I read somewhere that he had written it to his girlfriend while they were in high school
@talsveta yeah he wrote as a lullaby when she couldn't sleep.. it has so deep meaning for sure especially for Rita
And he was only 21 in this video 😮
Jimi changed guitar forever, I believe Dime, EVH & Randy added to forever…
Agree. I would add Toni iommi and page
dime added nothing, he was just eddies copycat
@@alfonspekala pfffff
@@ln8300 okay, what revolutionary did he bring that eddie didnt?
@@alfonspekala he invented Groove metal
Hearing Floods in there was a surprise. Dime is still my favorite guitarist.
He had that riff in his pocket for a LONG time before it was ever a song. case and point here, they wouldnt write floods for damn near another decade
God damnit, I fuckin hate that he had to be taken from us like that. I'm still not over it. Doubt I ever will be.
You and me both, brother 😞
He had SO MUCH MORE music to give us.
We must never forget that three other people lost their lives that night as well 😞
@@TheCuratorWillBQuytOperational for sure. May they all rest easy 🍻
I feel you mate 🙏🏻❤️🔮
Yep, I feel the same. Only thing that brings me any solace is that justice was swift for his killer. Still feel anger to this day over that. I remember when MTV reported it, I was in total shock. It felt surreal. 😢💔
Irreplaceable. Period. Rip legend
Well said, bro!
When dime locks in on his signature runs it’s magical. So unique.
1987 was the year Joe Satrani released Surfing with the Alien album. The 1st song is Crushing Day from that album.
God bless you dimebag.....you and Eddie were truly brothers from another mother
He is a true metal legend!
1:05 crushing day by the great Satch!!!
Of course🤘
Dean from Hell 🤘
Darrell and I became best of friends during this era,was awesome watching him step out on the worlds stage
Watching bands that were my idols in the 90's, like AIC and Pantera and Soundgarden, play live in the mid to late 80's is often a bit of a congnitive dissonance wow moment. Seeing their performances back then and how it helped shaped their sound in the 90's is an awesome thing to see.
@@MaxWhiteArabiLouisiana the video says 1987, but whatever you feel or think.
Personally, I would say this is a younger Pantera in maturation in the late 80's
Enjoy this 80's Pantera live video.

I was there!
Dude how cool . Obviously I am jealous - but would you happen to know who filmed this? Did you ever see another copy of this footage? Just curious, thanks . .
is nobody gonna talk about the absolutely insane part at 5:35
No one competed with young Dime, his Hair Metal style bridging into the new wave of power and Thrash Metal is just amazing, no one played fucking Lead like Dime he was just so Good.
@Apocalypse2031 what do you mean? he's on the list of every all time top 20 rock/metal guitarist xDD
@Apocalypse2031 what is a credible source for you? lol
R. I. P. Dime. You are Phenomenal.
Learning all that Randy stuff by ear. Musician
I guess he had that floods riff for a minute, dime always knew what works for what to perfection
I love how the floods outro sounds in 1/4 step E 🤘🏻
crushing day
This is killer, PANTERA!!
NOW THATS THE REAL GOD DAMN \PANTERA/!!!!!😈😈😈😈❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥🤟🤟🤟🤟☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️
Such a talent 🎉🎉🎉
"holy fucking shit", that's the word
Still mesmerizing, his speed and accuracy. I'm from that "Rhoads/Van Halen/Lynch"-school of playing, with 70s Rock guitar bands as a base. First time I heard Dimebag play on 'Cowboys'-album, I knew he was positioned to take all of it further.
I'm from that old school too. EvH, Rhoads, Lynch, Tracii Guns, Slash, Marty Friedman, Dimebag, Paul Gilbert, Warren DiMartini
@@Apocalypse2031 It's the 'way' he used "known" techniques. And like Edward and Randy before him, he did discover and shape a guitar tone that no one else had. You'll probably argue that Hetfield already had done it, but Dime's tone 'was' different. And Hetfield took things he learned from Mustaine, when Mustaine was in Metallica in the early days. Everyone learns/borrows from everyone. That's how it is.
@@Apocalypse2031 Well why don't you go ask 100 other guitar players, then. I was 'there' during the 1980s & 1990s. Dime 'did' have a unique tone.
That live tone he has back then, jesus, 😧. Fucking awesome. Especially in '87.
was watching this video for the first time today and it made me tear up during the floods part, such an amazing person and guitarist. made me pick up my guitar and play nonstop for the last few hours and I plan to keep going. thank you Darrell.
I listened to this solo spot thousands of times on bootlegs as a kid and it still gives me goosebumps
that was cool, never saw a player do covers during solo

Man I can’t believe I’ve never seen Dime playing some Satch! What a gift 🙏
🙌
Wow it’s cool to see him play what influenced him! Along with his own material. That old guitar still had the blue paint on the back of the neck!!
Legend God of guitar Darrell
Wow this is fuckin awesome! Never seen this one before. Dimes really shredding it up here! Hell Yeah!
ridiculously good
I was 18 and he was 21 then
I was -7 (yes negative seven) at this show. 😂 I just got to see Phil, Rex, Zakk, and Charlie in Nashville and I don't think any other band can top this 2024 Pantera Tribute set. Holy fuck. 🤯
Love hearing the fucking hostile solo in there
You're welcome dude. . . wish I had more of them but maybe somebody else out there does and we will get to see it one day
