Hi, my name is Jen I am 44 and live in Connecticut with my husband and 8 year old son. I am a stay-at-home Mom and full-time UA-camr with a degree in business with a focus in marketing. Before leaving work when my son was born, I was a commercial lender at a bank. I also worked at Sephora and Macy's doing visual merchandising.
I have dry skin with some hyperpigmentation and fine lines. I love natural makeup looks but occasionally go outside my comfort zone a little bit. On my channel you'll find lots of videos about drugstore makeup and drugstore dupes (those are my favorites to film!) but I also review high-end makeup as well. I didn't realize that elf released new shades of the Halo Glow...thanks for sharing!
Anyway here's how everything wore...
1. L'Oreal foundation...it looked so good at first! A few hours later it had settled into fine lines and pores and looked very dry. 👎
2. Elf Camo Concealer...again looked decent at first but after a few hours I saw that it had settled into the lines under my eyes and looked dry.
3. Lash Princess mascara did not smudge with a tubing formula on top! Even by the end of the night it was still going strong!
4. NYX Brow Glue never dried down and didn't hold my brows for long...they were drooping after a few hours.
My takeaway: I suspect that the reason these went viral is from people posting first impressions. I was happy with a lot of the failed products at first but didn't like how they wore.

I bought the lightest shade of the ELF Halo Glow once they expanded their shade range. I haven’t tried it yet but just by looking at the color in the bottle I think it will work, as long as it doesn’t oxidize. I’m very fair and it’s hard to find a light enough shade in a lot of foundations I try. So I hope this one works! 😊
Thanks for doing that mascara trick, I'm definitely going to try it. I love tubing mascaras but they don't give me the volume or length like some others and all mascaras give me panda eyes, even waterproof albeit to a lesser extent.
@@sharlesb7735 I agree I feel the same way about tubing formulas so this is a great way to use the ones I have.
I use the eye brightener under the elf camo and it works great, alone it is a hot mess.
Yes please do high end because it’s even worse when you waste a larger amount of money. I agree that first impressions cause products to go viral that shouldn’t. I appreciate when my favorite UA-camrs spend time using a product before giving their opinion. But I understand wanting to have the first content on the newest launches.
Finally I hear that ppl have the same opinion on the lash princess. I feel justified after all these yrs lol.
The lash princess makes my lashes short and stubby and flakes everywhere. One of the worst mascaras I’ve ever used. Thought it was just me 😂

I thought it was just me! Not only did it clump my (already) short lashes, it also simultaneously smudged and flaked.

I feel like mascara is just such a personal choice? Just really depends on your skin, lashes and eye shape. I would love to see a high-end version of this video!!
Like all cosmetic products - very individual and depend on your skin characteristics, your skills, tools and of course, preferences.
I absolutely love the L'Oreal Infallible Foundation. It's actually one of my top 5 favorites. I have combo skin & it looks very natural, imo. I would recommend not applying it too heavily and to use a damp sponge to set.

I liked it for the first week I owned it, now I have to mix it with a tinted moisturizer to use. Just looked super dry no matter how much I moisturized.
@LegendMadisonyea most “long wearing” makeup products will have denatured alcohol in it to keep it from getting oily too quick.

Same skin type and I also apply it with a damp sponge. I just don’t like how it look on me, crazy how things just wear differently on different
People. My favorites are the wet n wild photofocus matte and revlon colorstay oily combo
Freshwear is one of the few foundations that works for me every time. It lasts on my oily skin all day, even through sweat. I actually get compliments when I wear it. My key is I treat it like EL Double Wear. I stop myself from over-applying, going lighter on areas prone to settling and use a damp sponge.
I think that is a good foundation for people with oily or even combo skin. I have extremely dry skin, and it looked awful on me. I gave it to my mom who had oily skin, and it looked beautiful on her skin. It really is a beautiful foundation on the right person.

This. I just don't trust anyone anymore. Even if they're not being sponsored. If they have yet to get on a brands PR list I feel like they're working OT trying to by saying all these great things about products. I rather get honest feedback from a Reddit beauty page. So far I have yet to be let down. Look I get it. This is how gurus make their money but the one thing they DON'T keep in mind is that we're spending ours because they said X product is amazing. Even if it's drugstore products. Those prices add up and quickly. Even though I'm subbed to several gurus I rarely watch their videos now. If I happen to start one it's rare for me to finish it. It's a shame it's become like this now. The positive? The ending of my comment just reminded me to unsub, lol...
The Elf Halo Glow ticks all the boxes for me..I love how blendable it is over whatever foundation I wear..I love the warm undertone and hydration..I have dry mature skin so this product is well suited for my skin type as well as the hydrating camo concealer..

I'm pretty sure that elf added to the shade range after halo glows initial release. The shade that I use is 0.5 fair. And there's also a 0 fair. I found those on the elf website, if that helps anyone else out.😊
A lot of stuff makes me wonder if things went viral naturally, or if the PR and adverts were just that good.

The Essence blushes rock! I was shocked to see that on the “ naughty” list. The color bold heart packs a punch. I duped it for the RMS blush pomegranate fizz. And love the Lifter glosses! Variety is the spice of life! Glad we all have so many, choices! Thanks Jen and can’t wait to see the high end version. My vote went in that category.
I find it super interesting that either these products are holy grail or complete trash for people. The polarizing opinion is what makes these products viral. Great video!

I loved the ELF shadows until I purchased my first high end palette. (Natasha Denona) Now it’s like making a choice between McDonalds and 4-star French restaurant.
Understandable. My life experience has been that you generally get what you pay for. However, for those with extremely tight budgets, the e.l.f. shadows are better than nothing.

The infallible is legit one of my absolute favorites!!!! Im dry and always skin prep big time beforehand. I can't believe people don't like it??? I love it......
So jealous that it seems to work on so many people. It just looks flakey on me. I don’t have that issue with some of my others
The foundation is like my drugstore holy grail! I’ve had people compliment my skin while wearing it multiple times. Sad it didn’t work for you or many others. Makeup is so subjective!! Love the video would love the higher end version!
I agree. Loreal foundation freshwear has been my favorite for years. There was truth to the "hype".

I love Loreal Infallible foundation. Gives me a flawless look. I also like the elf bire size shadows and the Essence Lash Princess.
Yes it’s one of the most flattering pore minimizing foundations I have ever used. It can be drying though.
@@embeth446 That's because alcohol denat. is the 4th ingredient. Aka isopropyl alcohol or SD 40 alcohol.
I hated the Camo concealer.. in the original and hydrating. Hate it ! The shades and tones were off and was so thick and cakes!

I’m in my 40s so it didn’t work.
I can't use them under my eyes, but they make great spot concealers. They wear like iron and don't grab powder products that go on top of them.

You are the person I always check to see if you have something new posted. I am very fair, and very cool toned so I appreciate you seeking the cooler tones in makeup too. There is so many fewer pink/cool toned people than warmer toned, I can understand why there are more products aimed at warmer toned consumers. It is nice seeing that you are using warmer/neutral tones that you can, while searching for cool tones. Thank you for teaching me so much!

I also didn't like the Essence lash princess until I tried the waterproof one (black/blue). I have had no issues with flaking or smudging. Thanks, can't wait for the high end picks!💚
Agreed! Did not like the green original one and absolutely didn't get they hype but the waterproof with the blue accent on the tube is amazing. It can smudge (depends on what concealer I use and whether or not I powder) but it makes my lashes look bananas good. 😁

Jen, I’d love a video for what to do when you try a product, get through most of the day before it fails, and need to salvage your look to finish the day. If you don’t have time to wash it off and start over, how do you repair creased under eyes, or foundation that’s settled into lines, or patchy contour or blush?? I appreciate you so much! I’ve had great luck w the Lash Princess myself 💕 but my #1 is the milani tubing mascara you recommended in the green tube. Excellent!
I've actually had really good results with the Lash Princess mascara! I'm on my second tube now, and while I had some issues with it flaking and smudging in the past, I noticed that would only happen if I applied undereye concealer after my mascara. I'm not sure why I thought that was a good idea but I guess I was following the "do your eye makeup first" method too closely. Now I just put my mascara on as the final step of my makeup before lips and haven't had issues with it since then

SUCH a great idea for a video. Love all the differing opinions! It’s great to hear how others feel about the hyped products that people lose their minds over!😂 It makes sense that there must have been issues with L’Oréal Infallible, given that they released a more moisturizing version. I’ve used tubing mascara over “flaky” mascara and it works great for me. I’ve also found that I can use Lash Princess OVER Sky High primer (it’s a black primer) and it doesn’t flake. That primer seems to help just about any mascara.
Finally! Others agree with me on the very hyped-up Essence Lash Princess mascara! Several months ago, I tried it, got panda eyes, and returned it. 😀
would love to see a part 2! high-end products tend to be a bigger disappointment for me because it means I spent so much money for a sub-par product that either needs a lot of work to make it usable or something that belongs in the trash.
E.L.F. Halo Glow - I personally like this a lot. I do need to be careful with application and not putting on too much, or it will muck up my foundation. But yeah, the shade ranges need some more work. A lot of them lean yellow and dark, even for the lightest shades!
Infalliable Foundation - wait, really?!!?! I personally love this stuff. Excellent shade range, good price, good finish - but sadly it does not work for everyone. :(
E.L.F. quad eyeshadow - they are perfectly fine for the price but yeah, these were extremely hyped up for what is essentially a basic product. Decent color section tho - i really like the green one because the greens and yellows in them were kind of rare and gave people a grungy, swampy look
Essence Lash Princess - looks great until you tear up and/or the oil in your skin and then BOOM! Panda eyes central
Essence Pure Nude Basked Blushes - liked these a lot. I have pale skin and they give me a beautiful flush of color. But they are very light - I am concerned that a lot of the blush colors on deeper skin tones would look ashy or just not show up at all
Maybelline Lifter Gloss - I agree with the negative comments. Felt thick, heavy (to the point of smothering), and uncomfortable on the lips. Tried a couple of shades and the gloss would somehow gather at the corner of my lips, it was weird. I threw mine away.
I keep the e.l.f. quad shadow in I Love You A Latte in mind in case I'm ever in an emergency situation where I need to buy matte eye shadow at the drugstore. Also the Milani Whiskey Business. There just aren't very many matte options in the drugstore lines. L'Oreal has a few singles, but I find the formula to be a little patchy on my dry skin.
Makeup is very personal and skin tone, texture and condition really make a difference in how things work.

Also, elf did expand their shade range on the primer (lots of new shades, even lighter and cooler toned!), as well as their halo blushes and their sunscreen.
I agree with the Elf Camo concealer. It didn’t not blend into the skin. To me it looked like it sat on my skin rather then becoming one with it. My all time fav is the NYX Bare With Me concealer, it’s does everything the Elf doesn’t.
This was a fun video to watch while having my tea 🍵 My favorite mascara from Essence for 5 years was the Lash Princess Sculpted mascara with the curved wand... until I tried the Milani Highly rated tubing mascara 🥰 Thanks Jen for sharing your thoughts on this mascara 😊 This mascara washes off easily with warm water, I don't have any issues with clumps or smudging. The Essence blushes are another favorite that I use often. Thanks Jen for all that you do and bringing a smile to our day 💕 Take care everyone 🌹

One more reason I love your channel is that you do check ins and let us know how a product wears over the course of a day. TikTok is the absolute worst place to get makeup recommendations because most of the time the recommendations are not properly tested! I need to know if a product will wear through the day, if it will fade, flake, smudge, disappear, settle into fine lines, make my dry skin look dehydrated, emphasize texture. This is a long list and you always cover these things! I very much appreciate that - and this is why I always come here first when buying new products! Everything you’ve recommended has worked perfectly for me and many have become my all time favorite products. I reach for the Maybelline Lip Lifter Gloss almost daily, along with their creamy matte lipsticks, Colourpop’s Smoke and Roses palette, Moira powder foundation, LA Girl eyeliner, Milani tubing mascara, NYX brow pencil, Milani and L’Oréal bronzer, Essence baked blush, Catrice Glow Blush, Cover Girl Simply Ageless Powder, Revlon Awake concealer. All recommended by you!
These are all products I use- not only daily- but are products I love so much that I will probably be wearing when I get married next year!

I didn't like Halo Glow at first, but I've learned not to apply too much and to blend it out with a sponge so that it doesn't feel so heavy on my skin.

I love all of those products! I like the smell of the lifter gloss as well. I never tried the brow or blush products but the rest are some of my favorites.
I think you were in the right direction about the elf camo concealer. I love it but it definitely will cling to any dryness and it’s easy to overdo. I put a silicone primer on my undereye and then only use 2 small dots of the concealer. Doing it that way, it looks flawless

I FINALLY don’t feel crazy 😂 I’ve watched both of your videos on this topic & agreed with most of the comments. I felt like I was doing something wrong because soo many of the “viral” products didn’t work for me! I have to say, the drugstore products/look came out sooo much prettier than the high end. High end products aren’t always better! Absolutely LOVE the Essence Baked Blushes though… some of them are shimmery/glittery vs glowy, so for that I’ve only used a few of the deeper shades for the glow.

I like the Elf glow highlighters. I am fortunate that I can use one of the lighter shades. I agree that the L’Oréal foundation isn’t the best, that brow gel is not good, but I do enjoy the mini eye shadow shades from Elf. I need two of them for a complete look.

I was a HUGE lash princess fan for years.2016-early 2020. great volume, no smudgies etc. I feel like when we re-entered reality (ie came back to work in 2020) I was totally let down by it. I initially thought it was wearing a mask and having to do a job where I am consistently talking and aiming hot air at myself. I'm also a dry skinned gal too and I couldn't get over how much this smudged and I NEVER had the problem before. So now I believe it is the product and not all the hot air I create at work (hahaha) . I've since switched to tubing mascara and havent had a smudge since.
Same EXACT experience. Got it in 2018-2021 and switched to tubing this year!
Oh! I'm so glad that others didn't like the Lifter gloss! Mine was gritty and smelled awful. I even bought one that wasn't shimmer and it still felt gritty.

I really really wanted to like the Elf Halo Glow. I look terrible in it ! Tried it so many ways. My skin is a little dry and it still felt kind of slick on me.

I always get smudgy mascara too so for a long time used tuning only. I recently started trying the regular with tubing over it like you did in this video and it really does help! Great hack!

I have medium skin tone and absolutely love the essence baked blushes. They are light when first applied but I just apply more and they look beautiful in my opinion
I get so many compliments from the fresh wear foundation. I have oily skin and it keeps it looking nice all day. Super buildable/versatile

I enjoy the difference in opinions. :) It definitely depends on your skin type and climate. I'm 59 with combo skin and live near the coast. Although I have mature skin, I am not able to wear many hydrating foundations unless it's the middle of winter, because the damp air will melt it right off. lol I wore the L'Oreal Infallable foundation all summer and absolutely loved it!
I’m currently panning/using up that L’Oréal foundation and I kind of agree you don’t need a lot of it because of how it sits on the skin it looks good in small amounts but just don’t keep piling it on I also agree with the concealer just because if you use a lot of it it creases so bad even I use a little amount and I love full coverage

Great video! Your look is beautiful. I love the ELF CC Cream and the L'Oréal foundations! For my 59-year old skin normal-dry skin, these are fantastic. I have to moisturize extra well before the Infallible foundation, but it really challenges my expensive foundations. Lash Princess flakes on me, too. It's also drying and makes my lashes feel crunchy. The Lifter Gloss smells so bad! None of my influencers talk about that aspect. Same with its rival, Fenty. UGH.
Hi! I'm 55 yrs young with sensitive/normal to dry skin with a touch of redness/broken capillaries. I absolutely love the Elf putty primer! I use it under and on my eyes, nose, cheeks and chin. It keeps my foundation from collecting into my lines and pores and provides a good base for my eyeshadow. It's not too 'tacky' as to make the eyeshadow patchy and hard to work with. Oh, so funny the Infalliable 24 hr wear foundation I do use. It's good...as that it is not heavy or cakey on my skin and leaves a decent finish. (I use a flat damp sponge to apply it) It's a bit hard to get the just right shade to my porcelain complexion, but I blend it out really well and use contour and blush to balance out my overall skin tone and I don't find it drying at all. I don't use brow glue. I use a hair wax and a spooly to put the brows in place. The Elf concealer is great as it does not collect in lines, but I HATE the size of the applicator. It's freaking HUGE! I just dab it on and dab with my flat damp sponge. It does not cover sun spots well. Never used the Elf shadows. I'm a big fan of Colourpop. My go-to mascara right now that doesn't smudge is the Hydrofuge Voluminous Carbon Black mascara - Waterproof from L'Oreal. I have long lashes that are resistant to lash curlers. I have very sensitive eyes and can't use water-resistant because those still smudge. With this mascara, all I need its one coat on top and bottom, (any more then I end up clumpy spider eye look) then go right back in with the spooly and separate upper and lower lashes while still wet. It gives a great affect without getting spider eyes. With long lashes I have to be careful how i open my eyes until they dry so I don't 'spot' my under eyes or eyeshadow. After it dries, I'm good to go! I use an oil cleanser to remove. I've fallen in love with a blush/contour combo by Complex Culture. Contour colour - Power Player, Blush - Pink Slip. I got it through Ipsy. Perfect colours for me, extremely blendable and buildable, and it comes in a beautiful sturdy compact. Lots of product in it too! I love glosses but I don't like plumping glosses or anything that tingles my lips.

I actually like my elf bite sized shadows. I have the one you are wearing and take these on vacation so I never have to worry about my high end shadows getting ruined or ?? I also don't mind the foundation . Thanks for sharing 👍😊
I love my bite size shadows. Cream and sugar is amazing and the latte one with all mattes. Such a good matte palette

Mascara is so wild! The Too Faced BTS mascara is so many people’s holy grail…but it causes SEVERE smudging for me. It was so bad I had to toss it…so sad.

I love the Halo Glow, and only purchased when they came out with some lighter shades. It caught my eye since I don't use much makeup except for lip color, and never wear foundation or mascara .But I can definitely understand why many would find it too greasy.
Here’s my take Ms Jen: Lash Princess by Essence WAS good, but the ones I’ve bought in the last year or so-terrible! I have two new bottles, one green and one blue waterproof & just using others in my stock pile of new mascaras b/c I don’t want to use them I now detest them that badly. It’s as though they changed the formula 🤷🏻♀️ I have not got along w/any ELF complexion products in the camo line, and I tried them all. However, I have recently tried a couple of products in their older line like the concealer “pen” and the satin finish foundation, both of those were actually pretty good on my maturing skin 👏🏻 I LOVE the Essence baked blushes, but especially in the peach 💋💄👏🏻❤️ Thx for another good video Jen, ready for the high end version 😉❤️

Glad to know I'm not the only one let down by L'oreal Freshwear. I agree that it just sits on top of skin and I literally use less than half a pump because I don't like a thick layer of base make-up. The finish is actually nice but it's slippery on my skin and transfer's bad. It might be good for dry skin though.

I like that you not only mentioned the products, but applied them! So glad to hear it wasn't just me who didn't like L'oreal Infallible Fresh Wear Foundation...it just sat on my skin! I have a love-hate relationship with the Lash Princess, because, like you mentioned, I love how it makes my lashes look, but it smudges like crazy, more so than other mascaras. Maybe I'll try their Waterproof version. One of my Favorite Mascaras is Maybelline Sky High lol! I love how it separates my lashes! I am a 2 mascara girl...I go in with that one, and add the Loreal Voluminous on top, to give my lashes more volume.

I love these kinds of videos! I've discovered that makeup is truly so personal, so many products i absolutely love are really not popular/and vice versa. I hate elf shadows all around and my favourite mascaras are maybeline which don't seem to get much hype. OH well :)
