Hi, my name is Jen I am 44 and live in Connecticut with my husband and 8 year old son. I am a stay-at-home Mom and full-time UA-camr with a degree in business with a focus in marketing. Before leaving work when my son was born, I was a commercial lender at a bank. I also worked at Sephora and Macy's doing visual merchandising.
I have dry skin with some hyperpigmentation and fine lines. I love natural makeup looks but occasionally go outside my comfort zone a little bit. On my channel you'll find lots of videos about drugstore makeup and drugstore dupes (those are my favorites to film!) but I also review high-end makeup as well. Just to note: I didn't include Moira because I don't technically consider them drugstore makeup since they aren't sold in drugstores. I was going by the more literal definition of drugstore. I included ColourPop only because they're sold in the drugstore section of Ulta. 😊

A genuine and honest makeup reviewer. I always look forward to her videos. Especially the drugstore version and of course the dupes videos....
At 75 years old I recognize that the majority of influencers and UA-cam channels are for younger people. I had an idea for a video where perhaps you have a mom, and aunt, grandma, and elderly neighbor, etc. and you could get together and perhaps do make up for three different stages of life. Because I have been putting make up on for 60 years. It has been my passion even during Covid when I wasn’t going out I still put my make up on every day. But I recognize that I cannot wear the make up that I wore when I was 20. I used to do a cut crease where I put black eyeliner in the crease winged it out almost like a Cleopatra eye, softened it with eyeshadow etc. well there’s no way on earth that I could do that again. As much as I want to it’s not possible. So young women middle-age women and older women might have three separate opinions on what works and makes them look the best. I think this would be a great thing to do on your channel and I’d love to see what make up and techniques work for all and which ones work for the different ages

We agree on Milani Anti-gravity mascara. I don't "get it" and I've tried so, so many times to love it. Guess I'll just be an Essence Lash Princess False Lash effect fan until a better mascara (for me) comes around. Merry Christmas :)
Jen the elf camo powder foundation is amazing for setting the under eyes I am a fair skin tone like you and I have the shade fair 120 N it brightens my under eye it does not crease look cakey and provides a little more coverage under your eyes. Also I have the shade light 210n for setting the perimeters of my face it's just an amazing product but especially for the under eyes Taylor Wynn turned me onto a lighter shade for under eyes and I haven't looked back since!! Also I have very dry skin as well and it works very well even with my dry skin 😊

One way to help the NYX concealer not crease/settle into lines (it does this with me as well) is to take a setting spray meant to help with staying power, spray a light layer onto one finger, then tap the spray into the concealer. This will set it without giving a dry, powdery look. I've done this with a Joah setting spray to great affect. ^_^

Ever since you mentioned the LA Colors Biggie Lash mascara, I have been obsessed with it. I love the way it makes my lashes look lifted, and fanned out, I don't even need to use a lash curler with this one. I found the Maybelline Superstay Vinyl Ink on Amazon, and got a few colors to try, and I like this one so much better that the original Superstay, the softness of this formula and the lasting power without drying out my lips is amazing.
I think the maybelline lifter glosses in the Gold collection came out this year….I think? If so, a big shout-out to maybelline for giving us those wonderful glosses. Also to Moira for their new potted cream shadows. Those are so nice. Actually, a shout-out to Moira for all the amazing stuff they gave us this year! 😂
Yes! I didn't include Moira because they aren't technically drugstore (and people always complain about that). But otherwise most of the winners would have been Moira for me, lol!

I love the L’Oreal tinted balm. You have to apply it with your fingers like a moisturizer, not a brush or sponge.
That's how I usually apply all of my foundations, yay!
Where can I purchase No.7 makeup? I’m in Indianapolis. I’d like to purchase in store to see the foundation shades in person.
They sell it at Walgreens mostly! Some Target stores carry it but not all of them. Possibly Ulta...at least they used to have it! But for me, Walgreens is the best option.

I’m still a big fan of the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink. I apply it and wait 60 to 90 seconds. Then I drink some cool/cold water. It locks in place with no stickiness.
I can’t wait until the new tubing Milani mascara comes to my grocery store! Should be about the time my Loreal is finished
I’m sooo excited to try the Milani Tubing mascara! Thrive is my all time fav and I’ve tried sooo many other tubing mascaras but none are as good as Thrive… thanks so doing a side to side and can’t wait to try!

I have the same problem with the Nyx concealer. I did find however, that if I put a few small dots on the back of my hand and pickup one dot with a damp sponge and apply to one under eye, and repeat for the other, and one more for around the nose & chin etc., that it totally corrects the problem with it cracking or creasing later in the day!! The trick is to apply it directly with the sponge, not with a brush or finger first. Hope this helps 😊🧡

I haven't tried the Maybelline Vinyl Ink but I have tried the Revlon Satin Ink and the two I have are amazing, wears like a liquid lipstick and feels like a balm. They're not sticky either, only very slightly in the inner rim I'd say, but not enough to be annoying to me. I haven't noticed my lips sticking together. The one downside is that the browny-nude lipstick, Your Go To, stains hot pink! It's so annoying! The dark red Partner In Wine is perfect and doesn't even stain.

They were at Walmart back in the Spring but sold out and haven't come back. They're still available on the Profusion website though!
Hey Jen! Love this video - so many new things I want to try! But, don't be surprised if you don't like the Elf Camo powder foundation when you try it. It's not a friend to dry skin. I used mine 2 or 3 times, knocked it off the edge of my table, watched it crumble and thought "good riddance." Suicidal makeup, with an assist! The new Essence powder foundation is so much better, I tried it and like it, but I'm a real BareMinerals OG Original loose mineral powder loyalist for everyday use for over 20 years now. The Essence lives in my purse for touchups. So loving your look today! Thanks for the video!
I LOVE the ELF Camo Powder on my PARCHED skin!! I was using the ELF Cookies & Dreams Primer till I ran out a couple days ago & prior to that I was using the ELF Cookies & Dreams mask. Instead of an "actual" primer I used my CoverGirl Clean Fresh Skincare Weightless Water Cream (HOLY GRAIL moisturizer) underneath & it stayed intact VERY nicely Sunday when I tried that combo. My only con about the Camo Powder is that I can't find my right shade....or I haven't yet anyway.
Haha Cathy you always make me laugh! I do have the Essence one and I like it! But did you notice a weird smell with it? I'm not sure if it's the powder or the puff that came with it.

@@Songbird8302 Glad you liked the Elf Camo powder! I used mine over a mineral-based tinted sunscreen by Australian Gold, which is not known to be very hydrating. I think your primer is more hydrating than the sunscreen I use. I need the sunscreen more than I needed the Camo powder, so...Happy Holidays!

I've always been a traditional lipstick lover. I have dry and wrinkled lips, but fell in love the with Maybelline vinyl ink and Revlon satin ink lipstick. If you apply a super thin coat the sticky feeling is at a minimum. Also, as much as I love glosses and balms, like the Revlon glass shine, i experience bleeding and feathering around my lips. The vinyl/satin liquid lipsticks allow me to avoid worrying about feathering and/or carrying a lip liner AND a lipstick to touch up.
Great video Jen...I gotta say I use the Maybelline super stay concealer and I have normal to dry skin and i really like it...they say it's a full coverage but it's at most a medium coverage on me I'm 41 and it doesn't hide all my secrets but it doesn't settle and it doesn't look cakey under my eyes...u should give it a try I think you would like it!!!💞 Much Luv and Happy Holidays 💞

Have you tried the setting spray concealer “hack?” I think PrettyOver50 has a video on it. It might be from Mrs. Melissa M. Beauty.
Ive tried the hack where u spritz setting spray on back of hand, tap with finger, then tap undereye. It works for my 52 y.o eyes that have fine lines. I dont need setting powder

I thought the same thing about the Maybelline Vinyl Ink lip gloss. Very sticky and didn't care for the scent.
I wanted to thank you for the recommendation on the eye cream KIEHL’S . That is the best moisturizing eye cream I have ever tried. I’m 50 about be 51 and very dry under eyes . My concealer looks fantastic over it..😊

With most concealers, less is more. A pin size amount at a time, blended into a sheer layer. One can always add more. Only were needed. Unless its for pictures/video or you have zero wrinkles/finelines.
Yes I always use a tiny little bit and I usually put a dot at the outer and inner corners and blend toward the center rather than putting it directly underneath my eye.
With the vinyl ink, remember to shake it before applying. Makes a big difference.
I love the NYX wondersticks, they are great. They are travel friendly and look really great on your face. They last for me all day.

I love the L’Oréal bronzer and the Colourpop Not a Box of Chocolates pallet. That pallet is an amazing neutral pallet. Amazing formula. One of Colourpops best pallets in a while. Great video.
I know these didn't launch in 2022, but I love the maybeline superstay matte ink. I hate lip products so much I usually wear chapstick. But these!! I know own 30, wear them everyday. They down dry down 100% but they also dont feel tacky (except if I get heavy handed). They will transfer a bit to a cup but dont transfer back to an odd place on your face.
I love your channel and your recommendations we have very similar makeup styles. I love a great shimmery eyeshadow and a light coverage foundation with a cream blush.
I usually put primer under my eyes then go in with concealer and powder and it seems to help with creasing under my eyes. Maybe try that for the nyx concealer

Drugstore makeup has got sooooo good. Colourpop, Elf, and Essence have such amazing products for affordable prices and the packaging is also kind of cute!

I don't see the point in paying for some of the luxury brands products... drugstore has come sooo far quality wise in the last 7 years!
So I know I'm late to the video lol. But have you tried the super stay matte ink lipsticks from Maybelline (the square ones).. with the Milani oil on top? Those lipsticks don't move. They're actually the only lipstick I can wear to work, because I'm a server, and a mom.. so I just don't have time to put lipstick on more than once. They are kind of drying. But I'm wondering if the lip oil would make it be a perfect match for you. If you try it let me know lol. I don't have those lip oils yet but I've just recently bought gloss for the first time since I was a child. I really don't like how sticky glosses are or the fact that your hair gets stuck in them. They end up all over your face etc.
People always talk about missing socks. I don't have that problem. Mine is missing makeup. I have so many times use something 1 or 2 times and then I have no idea where they went to. Every time I think of repurchasing to replace them, I think, "no, as soon as I buy another, I'll find the one that went missing". So I can so relate when people say they can't find a makeup item. I must have a makeup blackhole somewhere in my home.
The revolution bronzer in the medium shade is straight up gray … anyone who has beyond fair skin should beware …
Try the Nyx wonderstick contour and highlight…wow. Both the blush and the contour have serious staying power for a cream.

The two I'm going to mention aren't new but they're super comfy to wear:
Revlon Matte Balm. I've seen nothing like it, it feels soothing like a balm but it's completely opaque and matte but not drying bc it's a balm, quite a unique product! 😍 when lips are extra dry, Revlon Ultra HD Gel lip color, it feels awesome when applying and it has hyaluronic acid, it nourishes the lips beautifully 🙌
Lol, I use the tiniest, teeniest amount of Duo strip eyelash glue on a spoolie for my brows!! They will not move. Glue comes off easy with cleanser too :)
Really needed this as I'm always on the look out for new drugstore makeup, I'm planning a trip to superdrug soon so now I got a idea of what to get lol. Thanks for sharing x

Do not wear with Matte base makeup! It came right off on nose, chin.
The ink lip I try to like but just can't rave of it gave up ,the super stay I try in store and is dry for me was interested for long wear but seems not for dry skin still search more for foundation long hour wear guess splurge on Estee .

I love so many products you show here. For my not so young undereye area the Nyx Concealer is perfect. But my older sister had the same issue as you with it.
And I absolutely agree with the Superstay Vinyl Ink lipsticks!!! They sticky and not comfortable. And in my lips they wear down quite fast. Not for me.

i’m glad i’m not the only one that wasn’t obsessed with the vinyl ink. it was way too sticky for me to keep it on the whole day 😅
My eyebrow hairs grow downward too and I can't seem to get good enough hold from brow gels and glues and soaps. I do like the NYX clear one a lot. I like the the Kosas tinted brow gel but I know it's going to go bad and smell horrible(fr exactly like poop) like my clear one. ELF's dupe for ABH's clear brow gel is better than the ABH one but neither one hold my brows as long as I want them too. ELF one holds longer though.
Same with me. I use the Got2be stiff hair gel

I have both Fair and Light and I wear them both because they're a similar depth. Fair is more cool and Light is a little bit warmer but it's not orange at all. So I like both of them. 😊

The perfect lip vynil is tge one by revlon
I just bought two tubes of the Milano tubing mascara. I like it better than Thrive, which was my number one. It actually makes my lashes longer and more curled than Thrive.
I think I like it better too!
I layer the elf putty blush under the pink sands blush and it shows up better. Both of those are very light pinks, but they look amazing layered together ❤️

My favorite and most used drugstore makeup this year (though not necessarily new releases) were the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara, NYX Epic Ink Liner, Loreal Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation, Covergirl Outlast All-Day concealer mixed with Colourpop Pretty Fresh Hyaluronic Creamy concealer, Sol Body Bronzer, Colourpop Brow Pomade, my Moira Cosmetics Ombre blushes, Wet N Wild Megaglo Highlighting Powder, Colourpop Lux Liquid Lipstick (Casual Dress), and various Colourpop Super Shock Shadows mixed with many different eyeshadow palettes! ☺🤩

I'll have to find the No.7 foundation, but, elf, nope nope nope, my skin is not a fan of anything elf. I did try the blush and it was bleh. I did try the L'Oreal balm was ok, not my favorite, I did better with the KVD brand or Fiera, especially with the weather change. Happy Holidays Jen. Keep up the great videos.

Hi Jen I don't think you will like the essence powder foundation I too have dry skin ,and I am 47 ,even with my moisturizer, and sunblock ,it looked hideous on me ! The lip vinyls I tried a few different ones I too did not like them ,even shaking and putting on thin coat, it would smear on my teeth !!! Uh no thanks lol

For a lot of the makeup products that I have rn, I got them after watching your videos and found them amazing. Also I kind of stepped away from minefields after watching your videos.
So I've finally found a comfortable, longwear, transfer proof lip formula..... however, it's very pricey, but so worth it for me since I have a toddler and baby and need something that won't transfer, yet is very smooth on the lips. It's the Chanel Le Rouge Duo. Absolutely love them. I haven't tried the Maybelline ones yet so I can't compare the two. I would love to find a dupe for them though, so if anyone knows of one please let me know!!

Oh, that Maybelline Sky High Mascara! I tried it because it was recommended by an influencer, and I absolutely hated it! I got good length from it, but it was almost impossible to remove! And this was the regular version not the waterproof. And it flaked and smeared, not a lot, but enough that I noticed it.

I’m excited to try some of the products I don’t have yet. I really don’t buy high end products anymore. I’ve always been a drugstore girl at heart and I’ve been loving Indy brands the past few years. I do love the Sephora brand but I don’t think I’ve bought anything else from there for a long time. I won’t be around the week after Christmas until after the new year but I will definitely be back after and will catch up on your videos before anyone else. Enjoy your holidays! Honestly, at 59, I have watched the video by Barbara Daley, who did Princess Diana’s wedding makeup. It’s from the 80’s but her techniques still hold up today. You don’t need to apply a bronzer or contour to your face. If you were tanned in Summer, it would look natural but when you are pale or fair, why would you be bronzed on your face & no where else? It doesn’t look natural at all. If you notice, Diana never wore bronzer nor contoured her face at all. Only runway models have that applied.
It's funny that you mention that because I recently posted a video and I didn't apply bronzer or contour. I got SO many comments asking me why I skipped those steps and I told them exactly what you just told me...you don't always need it! I do use it sometimes in the winter to warm up my face, but I use a very light bronzer and only on the high points of my face so it doesn't really change my skin tone much and make it look different from my hands. It just keeps me from looking too pale, but I'm not trying to look like I have a dark tan either!
@@JenPhelps Many of the Influencers though, are not professional makeup artists. There actually was one girl who had contour on & her regular people commented that she went a little too heavy on the makeup. A general rule is don’t let people at the makeup counter convince you that your complexion needs “ warming up” because if you go darker, it doesn’t match your neck. It can also just make your face look dirty if you aren’t subtle with application. Also, I see many young people today who now wear false eyelashes. One girl I met, forgot to put makeup on & thought she looked “ ugly” without it. Since when is it trendy to think that unless you wear full makeup, you don’t look pretty? Whose giving them this false Information. I think it’s all a marketing gimmick. Another thing to consider is IF you ever want to get married, men in general, are not attracted to women who wear a lot of makeup. I should know, I met my husband in college and we are still happily married over 34 years now. And I never wore bronzer or contour. I’m part Irish & also fair skinned. I say just look at pictures of Princess Catherine & other royals who are pale. If you need color, that’s what blush is for. Also Bare minerals does still make face color to use all over to subtlety make you less pale. I like those. I still recommend the video to watch though.
