**UPDATES** I wasn't happy with the way any the foundation and powder looked throughout the day. They looked a bit heavy and accentuated texture/fine lines. The Better Than Sex mascara left HUGE black smudges under my eyes by the end of the day...I had forgotten how much I dislike that formula. The Huda shadows stayed on great over the NYX glitter primer! The Dior blush did fade considerably by the end of the night as well.
I thought it was very classy how you went about explaining why you do your brows the way you do. You could’ve just said choice words but instead you chose to show it in the light of a teachable moment to the critical person. Patience of a Saint, lol. Bravo Jen!!!
I love all of your videos, but when you talk about comments that people make that are not positive towards you, I find my mama clause want to come out to defend you! I love all of your videos. I think your eyebrows are just fine. They’re beautiful you’re gorgeous you’re helpful there’s not a darn thing about you. I don’t appreciate and adore so again I don’t like when people make negative comments about you that upsets me very much. Have a blessed day Jen thank you for all you do. You are greatly appreciated from this old gal. I adore you my girls while they’re young women watch you and my oldest granddaughter I got her watching you also and she’s 17 will be 18 we just all and love and adore your channel 2 thumbs up and a click around. Oh, that statement dates me
Wow. I'm SO surprised you had bad results from Better Than Sex. In the Chocolate color, it's the best mascara I've ever used, in more than 30 years of daily mascara use. It doesn't smudge and barely flakes - maybe just a couple of flecks in the course of the day, if that. Is it possible that the Black and the Chocolate have different formulas? Seems unlikely, so I remain confused as to why we had such different experiences. The only thing I don't like about BTS is that I had trouble putting it on my lower lashes because of the shape of the brush. It took some practice to learn how to maneuver it. Re Shape Tape, I've seen a lot of recommendations of it, but I'll never try it because of the fragrance. I have dry, sensitive skin, so I avoid fragrance. And I REALLY don't want anything with fragrance around my eyes!
@@R.L.Maverick Strongly agree. I think we all have to understand that there are different schools of thought, and different preferences, with makeup. Some things work for some people, and other things work for others. For example, "do your eyes first" vs. "do your face first." I prefer to do my face first so that I can apply foundation and concealer under my eyes without messing up my eye liner. Knowing me, if I did my eyes without liner, and then my face, I'd forget to put on liner. Or "always curl your lashes." I've tried it, and it makes no difference in how my lashes look, so I don't do it. Or "use bronzer to warm your face." I'm extremely pale with pink undertones, so I think it would look pretty stupid to "warm" my face. If other people feel differently, go for it! I'm also not a fan of shiny products, or putting lots of highlighter on my face. Again, YMMV.
And I hate when people bully you because something doesn’t work😩 then they will drag you and get other people to gain up on you. I’m glad you guys and this channel isn’t like that.
MAKEUP. IS. NOT. ONE. SIZE. FITS. ALL. GOT IT?? Meaning that Jen isn’t slamming these products. One doesn’t have to be MUA to know this (I should know, I studied to become a certified MUA). @christinamoller4342
I got Rose Quartz for mother's day this past year from my husband. That started my love for Huda's eyeshadow formulas. No one makes texture shades like her. I've accumulated a lot of her smaller palettes and managed to get Mercury Retrograde. I can't wait for Pretty Grunge. Love your videos, Jen. I'm sorry you get such nasty comments. You seem like a genuinely amazing person. I recently lost my mom, and when I can't sleep at night, I'll binge your older videos. I've discovered such amazing products from you. Thank you for all you do. Lots of love, Klarissa
😂 Jen, I do my brows the same order! But it started out as a way to avoid staining my brow gel w brown pigment, which was a consequence of filling them in first. I totally agree-- there are no rules to makeup, and it's always better to cater to our own features to accentuate things about ourselves that we like!
Diana, I have werewolf brows and still have to fill them too match my hair ( my hair shifts to jet black to a brown black ) but I can’t over do them or they will look like two 🐛🐛 Someone in Walmart the other day said “Why she didn’t arch her brows” Wasn’t nothing wrong with them 🤣
A couple of years ago, I started using a wax pencil on my brows and then some eye shadow or pencil, and then a clear brow gel. This works much better for me because there's something for the color to grab onto! My skin is very dry, which may be a factor. Or may not. I tried the Anastasia brow gel, in several colors, but I just couldn't get it to look reasonably natural. Somehow it just looked too dramatic, which isn't my thing. Thank goodness for the travel sizes! I didn't spend a lot of money trying it.
I think my biggest regret buying a product is the Cle De Peau concealer. After paying a ridiculous amount I was so disappointed. The coverage was pretty good but it showed fine lines I didn't know I even had. I'm not saying it is a bad concealer but just did not work for me.
I have to agree about the Laura Mercier powder. Hated it! Made me look way older and wrinkly. I'm also not a fan of any Laura Geller products. I'm so sorry you ever got negative comments. You don't deserve that. No one does. I got made fun of terribly on my channel, too. You are lovely and oh so charming. Great video, Jen! - xx, Carla
What powder do you like for setting? I often use Laura mercier Ultra Blur, and it works fine; i always use setting spray afterwards though. Im curious.
Hi Jen, people need to understand that makeup is not a one size fit all thing. I can see what the powder is doing and I could see the lines on your forehead. The eyeshadow is so beautiful and I love the look that you created with these most hated products. Great job, thanks alot for a very good video Jen. I always love your videos.🥰❤💗💞💯✌🌹🥀🌺🌸💐💐
I’d love to see a video on discontinued favorites and alternatives you can still purchase. Elf had an HD concealer that was AMAZING. I think it’s a dupe for Dior forever skin correct they haven’t had it since 2021 - maybe before it’s time but it would be insanely viral if still available. Ok rant over hahahahaha.
Still haven't found anything as good as the Physician's Formula The Healthy Foundation. Can't believe they discontinued it when everyone loved it. I'm down to my last bottle from my stash and scraping the sides.
@@mandiwolfe6631 OMG YES!! Try still carry it at my Walmart but I’m scared to buy it because I’m convinced it must be expired. Another product that would be insanely popular if it was still available. Hope you’re having a beautiful Sunday
agreed. Love the retrograde palette specifically. Too Faced reminds me of the same quality eye shadow I would buy from CVS as a middle schooler only way more expensive
I so agree with your philosophy, that what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another and there is no “right way“ or “wrong way” to do things. You have such a nice way about you, Jen. You always stay positive. 😊
I don’t consider Hollywood Flawless Filter as a primer at all, for me it’s an unbeatable product for a natural looking highlight. I only use it on targeted areas. I don’t find it thick, weird textured, or sparkly at all. My skin is dry and it never accentuates anything unflattering. I found the ELF dupe to have odd shades and a less dry skin friendly formula, and just overall isn’t the same type of product IMO. I also tried Auric Glow Lust and while the packaging and color of the product were STUNNING, it broke me out in painful, horrifying cystic acne literally 100% of the time I’d use it. I am certain it was the Auric causing the breakouts. HFF is the best of the bunch IMO.
Jess, my skin is already Edward from Twilight. It made me have pregnancy glow and people thought I had filter on. Had no problems with it but the pregnancy part which I don’t have any🤣 So I say that’s for someone who has dull skin concerns. I have the one from elf as well. Same thing but I’m cool with it and it doesn’t add texture or anything
I think my biggest high end disappointment was the LM powder that I bought because everyone said it was THE best powder. I ended up looking about 20 years older than what I experience with my wnw powder. I had wrinkles come out that I didn't even know I had 😂😂
Jen, you are my favorite you tuber! I came over from your blog, when you started this channel. I played your videos for hours to help you monetize. I love your honesty and value your opinion so much. Thank you! ❤🎉😊
This was so interesting. Even though a product doesn't perform well, the way you talk about it & describe it so nicely still makes me want it. I'm so very thankful that you're here !
I’m going to start doing that whenever I do wear highlighter, which I rarely do. But, what a great idea! The glow can show through without being so obvious and frosty. Thanks for that tip! 😊
Patrick Ta has always and still does powder blush FIRST, and then the cream blush on top. He is a famous and very talented, makeup artist… I don’t see any other MUA’s apply blush in this order. 🤷♀️ So yes, there is no right or wrong way to apply make up. It’s what works for you.
I loved this video and your drugstore version. I can always count on you to be 100%. I have been subscribed for years and your channel has become one of my very favorites on the entire UA-cam platform. Unrelated, I love lip stains that don't dry out the lips, probably because it's relatively lazy makeup that I can add a gloss on top of quickly, usually without losing color. Do you have any lipstains that you have tried and love?
Robert Welsh has a great video on the "rules" of make-up, but that there is not right/wrong and it's different for everyone. Recently, I've been reading comments on other platforms of people explaining the right and wrong places to put on spray-on cologne. Like, what? It's a fragrance. As long as it's not going in your face, how is there a right or wrong way to put it on??? You do you, but that also means I'll do what I want, too!
@@pinkbubblesnake Yes, that's not a good area to apply fragrance to. I guess one could apply some to, um, the pubic area that isn't the actual genitals - in the hair, say - but I personally wouldn't.
I can't make Charlotte T products work for me. I love the setting spray though. I'm still pretty new to makeup so I'm still obsessed 😮. So I really look forward to your videos. I've spent way too much money this month...and looking forward to spending more.
Me too. So every makeup that comes out from a brand I like and use I buy. I'm obsessed but alot didn't work out this year so alot got returned. Currently I'm on a lip buying craze
I really want to expand a little on what you said about there being no rules to makeup. I was a working makeup artist for many years as was my "surrogate" mom who trained me and one of the first lessons I learned is that you don't treat every face the same way. We are all different and it's about figuring out what works best for that particular person. I think the same goes for products...what works for one person and might be their "holy grail" may be an absolute fail for the next person. I think the idea of "influencers" is wonderful and I enjoy watching makeup videos, and I have definitely been influenced to buy certain products based on recommendations but I still think it's important to go out and test products (when you can) before buying them or try to get a sample (when possible) especially when you're considering making an investment in high end products.
I agree with your assessment/ what I found in the many decades of working with creative teams, manufacturers and companies - I can really relate to people as far as total confusion of this industry. They don’t really know what they want and are hungry for guidance. Thus influencers seem to be our new middle man.
2:15 Yass I have dry and extra dry skin in the winter/Fall ( 😩 the Midwest thing ) 2:43 the Haus labs and Makeup by Mario is for someone who don’t need any makeup. 3:49 I have natural ✨ skin ( I’m tan dark with yellow undertone) It doesn’t do anything it my ALREADY TWILIGHT MELON SKIN 🤣🤣 5:59 I hate that as well. I look older under my eyes. I have slanted & Hooded eyes. I’m 28!!! I don’t have anything still made me look and feel dead!
Yes to the tart me space tape being awful. It made my oily skin look like a dessert. I have to also agree with the criticism of the IT CC cream. To be fair I wore it for years and it was great them one day it started burning my skin. I would say in this case the problem is me:). Speaking of problems people need to leave the rude comments at home what the heck?
Hi Jen the makeup police are obviously out in force again 😂. Honestly as a normal consumer who has been wearing makeup for almost forty years I can assure you that “rules” change all the time depending on what is trending. I often wear highlighter under my blush- it makes it more subtle and therefore more wearable on my dry/mature skin. I just use a tinted brow gel because I don’t like an overly made up and on me heavy brow (light blonde hair and super pale skin). There are no “rules” and just trends, but not all trends work for everyone so why shouldn’t we do and use what works for our face? The shape tape works well for extra coverage on my redness/rosacea but I use it under my foundation and never under my eyes (I am super dry skinned btw). It is supposed to be used with a sponge and you only need a little for good coverage, but it’s far too heavy for my aging eyes. Huda shadows are glittery and need a glitter glue, but her mattes are smooth/buttery and the more subtle shimmers are also really good- for me glitters are a party only type of makeup in my fifties. The Pat McGrath are also a glitter fest btw. That doesn’t mean I have any issue with others wearing and loving glitter into their nineties (each of us have our own preferences). My super dry mature skin will not suit or love the same makeup as a younger or oilier person does. The amount of choice we have now compared to the eighties when I was a teenager is insane and that means there are now products to suit a huge variety of requirements. Best wishes x
Oh, wow, I could have written a lot of your comment! I don't wear shimmer or glitter eye shadow at all, except for a little on the inner corners of my eyes as a highlighter. But it can look good on other people. Even when I was younger, I didn't care for it on me. My introduction to makeup came in my 30s because I had acne as a teenager, and my dermatologist told me not to wear makeup. I tend to be a literal, follow the rules person, so I didn't even wear mascara or lipstick, which I'm sure wouldn't have caused any problems. After I took Accutane, which cleared me up, it occurred to me that I could now start wearing makeup. This was in the 90s, so I tended toward a subtle natural look, using brown eye shadow, pale blush, and shades of pink as lipstick. And I still do, as this is a becoming look for me. However, as you pointed out, trends most definitely change! Thank goodness I never plucked my brows to make them thin!
@@20thcenturyrelic I didn’t do the overplucked eyebrow thing either, but my mum was a cautionary tale re that from the sixties 😂. I’m not someone who was ever super trendy and in fact rebellious would probably be a better description eg goth in my teens, rock chick and biker after that. Fashion in clothing and makeup is on a loop and goes around and around again.
Are you using the Ultra Blur version of the LM powder? The lid is a different color than normal, so just asking. I’ve heard that newer version is more finely milled and looks better on dry skin than the original
Hi Jen ! I don’t understand why some people are so meant to you. I am always looking for your video to come out and rewatch again for your honest review , thank you for your time and dedication to dig deeper and come pair product sending love and light to you ❤
The LM powder you have is the Blur one, not the original. The original LM powder is my HG powder! I've tried dozens (at least lol having combo/oily skin) and it's my favorite. I've never used it under my eyes though. I use it on top of Double Wear (also favorite). I've actually been using Flawless Filter under it on my cheeks and forehead, and loving the combo. So I guess I disagree with some of this video 😅 Funny, bc I agreed with everything in the drugstore one!
Makeup is a personal thing. There should never be any rules on how it is applied. Some people put too much on and some dont put enough on. People seem to think you need to dump a whole bottle of foundation on your face when you honestly don't need to. Same for concealer. But if that's your thing, I guess go for it. The way I do my makeup is not the same as how you or someone else does theirs. Honestly, I wear makeup for business purposes. I wear makeup for celebrations like birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, graduations, etc. Because I dont wanna look like I just got off the couch. I want to look presentable or professional. If I'm going out with my BFF's, to a bar or a club, I wanna look pretty. I dont want to look like a clown or a halloween character. That's for another time and date. IMO, there's no wrong way of applying makeup. How else does one find hacks?
Hi Jen, thank you for doing this wonderful video, i agree with you ,eyebrows are different on everyone,& how someone does their brows is unique to that person, Jen I’m glad you said NO ! This is how I do my brows (you go girl). I love your eyeshadow in this video makes your eyes really pop. Love Katherine xoxo
Hype is a tricky thing. I understand brands want their products to be noticed and talked about. But when the hype grows, the expectations grow, too. Going in with very, very high expectations is a guarantee for disappointment. And I agree, this can make you feel like you are doing something wrong, or that you just don't get it. I fell for it too sometimes. I bought three different shades of the L'oreal infallible foundation before finally realising I don't like it. And that's totally fine.
So interesting. Like you say, makeup is individualistic. No rules. I actually like the Dior Rosey Glow Blush. It hasn’t turned hard pan (yet - but now I am worried it will - lol). It turns more of a peach on me too which I find interesting. I am glad it isn’t hot pink. That said, I do not like the NARS Orgasm. It is kind of a muddy orange on me. I have a ton of blush high end and affordable and my drugstore brands are the ones I reach for the most.
Great video!! Lol...only you with your beautiful skin could make America's most hated makeup look great! Makeup and it's application are truly subject to opinions and individuals as you said.😊
It’s funny that the LM powder is my favorite. I apply it in the center of my face where I get oily. I apply it with a damp sponge and use a setting spray . I love the way it controls shine and blurs pores. I never use it under my eyes. We are all different I guess.
I'm learning that influencers don't match their recommendations to what I like. A LOT of the products they recommend, I no longer buy. This video is in agreement with me. Natasha Denona is a hard pass for me.... purchased the mini Starlette and wasn't wowed by it; overly warm toned on my skin and that one light sparkly shade does NOT stick to the eye and ends up all over my face. Taste shape tape was a HUGE fail. Better Than Sex Mascara was a big disappointment as well.... No one talks about the volume mascara by Stila in the gold tub but it's WOW
Right on! If the major influencers like something, I no longer trust what they say… I think they’re being paid to say that. I have experienced not loving most of what they say they like. I still watch, but only so I can avoid the products they say they like.
I have a love/hate relationship with the maracuja juicy lips. It does get messy at times, especially here in the Florida heat, but once I get it cleaned up, I love how it feels on my lips. My lips are on the drier side.
In my opinion/experience ( I have dry skin. Only problem area is my dark lids and circles ) That’s why my friends and people don’t like it. I like it… I can or DONT HAVE TO spray or set it down. For the price I love the Juvias place dupe. ( it’s alot of affordable dupes as well I don’t have a favorite 😩🤦♀️ ) which explains why I have to keep decluttering and stay broke 🤣
love this video series. please do more! ❤ trust your reviews 100%. edit: as an oily girl, i adore the laura mercier powder. it’s smoothing and mattifying and still allows my oils to come through hours later. however, i wouldn’t put it under my eyes 😂
Fellow oily gal here, and I too absolutely love the Laura Mercier setting powder! It is my daily holy grail, doesn't look cakey on me even though I have a lot of texture, and it keeps my oils in check (as much as any powder can). However, I don't put it under my eyes, either. I'm 39 and I don't have a ton of fine lines under my eyes, but I still go for a lighter powder for my eyes.
Great video idea. I've had 2 Bobbi Brown eyeshadow palettes. I was SO excited. Such beautiful neutral colors. ZERO payoff. The same thing with the next BB palette. So disappointing 😢
I have yet to hear anything good about the performance or even the look of Bobbi Brown eyeshadows. Universally hated. The single shadows I have heard good things about, but I'm not gunna risk it.
I loved the BB aesthetic...mature (no Bart Simpson collab lol), sophisticated, not overly fussy, and high quality. I have since gone cruelty free, but I still look longingly at her (rare) new releases...
@@sydt7104I definitely think the singles have better pay-off, but I haven’t used her shadows in some time. I just recall having many of her palettes (they were okay) and the few singles I bought were very different quality, IMO.
I really love the concealer, named shape tape. I use it every day 😊. Very nice video 😊❤. Love from Greece ❤️🙂. Today, I take off my job, so I am enjoying to watch your video with my coffee 😊. Have a great day/ night ☺️💕.
I agree about loving the texture of the tarte macuja lip balms but I found I had to throw mine away because the coconut smell/taste made me gag after a few weeks of trying to ignore the smell, lol. Lanolips has a similar texture (so, great for moisturizing lips) but ALSO an underlying hint of the gagging coconut smell. (I think I'm really extra sensitive to the smell of coconut oil, unfortunately
The way I do my brows is also not according the "rules". My brows are fine according to the shape but light. I do my Total face, eyeshadow and apply settingspray. Then I get my pencil, I use a NYX microbrow pencil in Taupe and add colour. I fade it in with the brushside of that pencil and done. The wetness makes applying easier and the settingspray is fine to hold it. Better then Sex is fine for me... I use the brown one as it is a true brown and not a blackbrown. But that Essence Lash Princess that everybody seems to adore. It gets everywhere during the day. I hate it. And another unpopulair opinion; I hate Odens eye eyeshadow and not a big fan of Sigma eyeshadow either.
what makes u my most favourite youtuber is this---u never give same opinion about the viral products everyone praises but point out nitty-gritty details that people do not mention...thank you!
honestly, maximum youtubers did not cover the fact that makeup by mario and haus labs foundations are not for all skin types and they are too expensive too...especially these are not long lasting on oily skin people...i found u once mentioned about believe beauty foundation to be a dupe of haus labs (hope i am correct)...and yes, that foundation is way better and safe to spend money on...thanks
You are not doing your make up “wrong”, they are doing their comments wrong. Those comments are reflection on them, and certainly not on you. Wrong comment : you are doing your make up wrong. Correct comments : Thank you for showing us products before we spend our money on them. Thank you for the free entertainment. Thank you for your time and effort that go into putting good content together.
Try the Laura Mercier powder with a difft foundation, the powder is amazing, the foundation is not. I love the look you created, so beautiful as always 😊
I agree… I love that Blur-LM powder. That was not the Original. The brown cap is the original and that one is terrible. The new blur pressed powder is amazing too.
I love Huda eyeshadows! I use a Mac paint pot primer on eyelid then just place eyeshadow on top. I never have had a problem with any of her eye shadows fading on me. The colors look just as good when I take them off as they did when I put them on. I have hooded eyes and oily skin. I love her formula and the variety of her shadows.
I just used the Nyx Glitter eyeshadow primer. I forgot that I had it and I was going to wear a Juvia's Place pallette I used it. It worked great! The Better than S*x mascara I actually like. However, I only use it on my top lashes. Thanks for the video!
I can see where ppl don’t like the Tarte concealer, but for me, it is effective for spot concealing and red coverage but I don’t use it around my eyes. Also, I don’t like the Fenty Cream Glosses or Tower 28 glosses either. I was surprised by Too Faced BTS mascara and Huda, I enjoy them both. The Mascara is the best one behind Marc Jacobs mascara. Interesting hearing of the collective experience!!! 😀
Its difficult because people have sky- high expectations and often they dont know how to prep properly and how to use the products to get the best effect. There are ways to do things unless you dont care about the end result (since they complain, they care). Also its not like the brands provide directions either, wich is unfortunate.
The funny thing is that I was gifted the Dior Rosy Glow blush from a friend a few years back. The drugstore blush I'd been wearing for almost 10 years was discontinued and the closest shade to that looked to be the one by Dior. That was before anyone ever talked about it. Mine came with a brush.
I myself have not had a tarte juicy lip stop clicking up, but I do know if you reach out they will replace it for you. I understand that it shouldn't happen but sometimes it does, it's worth getting a replacement!
Hi Jen did you hear about Rabanne cosmetics at Ulta ? I saw a video that their eyeshadow palettes are great I wish you review it .Thanks great video as always
$49 for 5 brushes is pretty good 👍👍 that of course would be about $74 Australian for me 😢😢 and I think some people get disappointed with some makeup, because they think theyll look like the model in the magazines, nevermind that they are 16 and dont have a line on their face and are probably still filtered anyway!!!!
I LOVED the brow discussion! I cannot believe someone even cares how you do your brows. It's funny & sad. Jen, you have what seems to me to be a successful yt channel. It's yours which means you can do what you like. I appreciate your hard work in putting content out for me & 165k others.Thank you. And thanks to your family too bc they help make it happen too.❤
I love the CT flawless filter, can’t speak to the Mario foundation. Tarte Shape tape 👎🏼👎🏼 LM setting powder is meh as well as the ABH brow freeze. I do agree with your love for the NYX lift n snatch pen 😃 I’ve never tried Huda’s formula, it’s one of those brands that I’m just not drawn to. Better then sex mascara is NOT better then sex 🤣 and after hearing what people had to say about the Dior rosy glow blush I’m glad I didn’t buy it. I also love the Tarte maracuja lip gloss however I had lots of product left in the tube when it stopped clicking . If I’m paying $20+ for lip gloss I want my $20 worth! Thanks for the video, it was fun 😊
How you do your brows all depends on what type of brows you have. I have full brows but they are blonde and all but invisible on my face. I darken mine in with a pencil then use a clear brow gel to hold them in place or just use a tinted brow gel that has good hold. There is no right or wrong way to do brows, only the way that works for you. That goes for all of makeup too, do what works for you and makes you feel good about yourself. Makeup should be for yourself anyway, not for other people.
Yes, there are no rules to make up.. Not one formula with one technique works for everyone, quite the contrary. Recently, I switched over to doing my brow gel First, let it dry down, and then fill in my brows. After moisturizing at a Primer, my brow gel is the first makeup product I do when applying full face make up. I choose to do it first to give it time to dry, and then I will fill/color my brows as a last step. All of these years when I use brow pencils or a pomade the gel/wax removes my eyebrow products… so that I have to wait for it to dry and then go back in and fill again.. it’s time-consuming and annoying. So now I do my gel first, let it dry, and then it fill in my brows… Works like a charm 🤷♀️
Wow I'm really impressed with how shimmering the Huda eyeshadow is, how is it compared to Sydney Grace? I think she has the best in my collection but it would be mice to have a pallet instead of singles
Huda's shimmers can vary from satin to metallic to cream, to glitter all in one palette. She usually plays with textures a lot so there isn't one formula like there is with Sydney Grace. But I usually love Huda's shimmers, they're always high quality. :)
If a woman buys a high end shadow palette for $70 or more, the performance should be high. She should not have to invest in a second product to get good results.
I agree, and I never use any sort of primer or glitter glue for my eyeshadows. Even so, out of everything in my (quite large) collection my Huda shadows have the best Blendability, longevity, impact and no fallout whatsoever. Whereas my NDs are patchy muddy fallout city. And CT quads are very subtle and fade by the end of the day on my super dehydrated, oily, demi hooded eyes.
This was so fun! I had finally sat down for the evening and was SO happy to see a Jen video!!! I agree with peps about Tower 28 mascara. Just not working for me. Not my jam but I keep trying and I do love other things from the brand. P.S. IF I use brow gel...I have to do my brows the same way as you! Back in the 80's /90's we did concealer BEFORE foundation. So...... whatever,
I wish I didn’t have to use powder! I have pretty oily skin so powder is a must for me. I don’t have a whole lot of high end makeup so I can’t comment on them. I love the higher end eyeshadow though. Except Colourpop. They are amazing. I was super disappointed with the PMG formula. I know everyone raves about it but I think it’s way too much to pay for not a great formula.
I find the pressed, under eye, translucent blurring powder by Laura Mercier to be great on my 67yo skin. It blurs the obvious pores on my nose and cheeks! I know it’s not a setting powder but I don’t really use a setting powder on my dry skin.
For some reason they started getting really low views...they were some of my highest-viewed videos at one point but lately they've been the lowest. They're a lot of work so I started feeling like it wasn't worth the time I was putting in. I may bring them back at some point. 🥰
Any one struggling with the CT flawless filter / elf halo glow please mix it into your foundation and use it. It gives a fabulous finish to your base and that's how I love using it. ❤❤
YES to there being no rules for makeup!! it took me ages to realize that maybe I don't completely suck at eyeliner, maybe I was just trying to replicate UA-cam techniques that absolutely would not work on my eye shape
*Y’all can SEND ME your CT Flawless Filters if you don’t want them!! I wear it every day and not only is it my favorite highlighter, but I get compliments on it CONSTANTLY.* 🤷🏼♀️ FYI - I wear shade 1 or 2 for reference.
I’m terrible at evebrows. I’m going to try your way! Also, I have naturally very straight blocky brows, and people always ask me why I don’t pluck them thin and curvy. Because I like my natural shape and I don’t want to fight it. Brow trends change, but your brows are your brows. 👍
So the makeup by Mario was by far the biggest disappointment of a foundation I have ever used. It never looked good at all, wouldn't set and it slid off of my face. Also there is not any actual cool shades. If your undertone is cool, this looks like glittery yellow, every shade! I tried to like it for so long, so so long, got different shades and even mixed other foundations with it. But I finally gave up because no matter what you do, this won't set, it won't stay, it won't blend into skin, it sits on top and instantly starts to slide. I never return anything. So the fact that I did return it is a big deal! Sorry, rant over, just that foundation was the biggest disappointment of my LIFE. I really saw how alot of influencers are liars lol. But that's why I like you, because you're honest as far as I can see lol ❤️
So many disappointments this year! (So many good products as well!) 1) Better than Sex. Both colors. Lackluster and overpriced. ALSO ,the Fenty Mascara gets EVERYWHERE. Looks great, smears all over the place. 2) LYS Brightening Concealer - could not find a color match to save my life and the formula was only ok. 3) OLEHENRIKSEN Banana Bright eye stick - what does this do? it's awful.
Brows: I set mine before skincare, and I use the Ardell brow glue. I apply skincare and makeup, THEN I fill in with my brow pencil. This is what works for me. People who say you're doing it wrong...how do they know? Hmmmm
First, Robert Welsh and Alex Anele also do their brows the same way you do. As Robert says, “there are no rules in makeup , but there is definitely an theory.” What works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for someone else, one size does not fit all. And that’s the beauty of experimenting with makeup IMHO. Figure out what works for you and stop using judgement words like “wrong”. This seems to be an immature person who thinks they know everything. A more mature person would say, “Interesting eyebrow technique. That doesn’t work for me but thanks for sharing it.” Or even asking “Why do you do your eyebrows as you do?” Just ignore them, they’re not the viewers who appreciate you. Second, thanks for doing these videos. I’m not really a TikToker or IG person. I mainly watch YT. I’ll usually wait until I see the influencers I trust rave about something to buy it. The catch is that sometimes their skin type / texture or preferences aren’t the same. I don’t like a shiny, super glowy face products. I hated the ELF and Charlotte Tilbury glow products. Are they “bad” products? Of course not. I’m just not the right consumer. I’m glad to have found your channel. Your preferences are similar to mine and I’ve really been enjoying them.
Hi Jen, I've been watching UA-cam since the days of lollipop 86 Aka Laura. Maybe 12 or 15 years ago!? Anyway, I can't watch anyone but you anymore. Can't trust anyone. They're all sponsored and frankly I don't like them which is really sad because I spend all my free time on UA-cam beauty. I hope you continue what you do because frankly you're the best honestly. Sending you my best wishes always
Love the Mercier powder, the original and the Ultra Blur. You have to use a SMALL amount. I feel like people use too much of ALL makeup products, and that might be part of the problem. I have normal to dry skin. I use the LM Secret Brightening Powder under my eyes. Try that.
**UPDATES**
I wasn't happy with the way any the foundation and powder looked throughout the day.
The Dior Powder No Powder hard panned like that blush as well.
I'm sorry that you've gotten so many negative comments, Jen. You're such a sweet person. 💗🌺💗
I don’t understand some people, it’s way easier to be kind. It just shows how unhappy some people really are in their lives. Happy people are kind.
And I hate when people bully you because something doesn’t work😩 then they will drag you and get other people to gain up on you. I’m glad you guys and this channel isn’t like that.
I agree!
There's always a negative Nellie in every crowd!!
@@lynettefinnigan9540 True! No matter how nice someone is, there's always somebody waiting to be mean. 😭
You judge products, you don't slam them. That's why brands listen to you.
Why is it you think brands are listening to anything an amateur says?
MAKEUP. IS. NOT. ONE. SIZE. FITS. ALL.
Lots of love,
Klarissa
I’m so sorry for the loss of your mom.🙏🏻❤️
Love this series, especially how you go in depth in why people hate these product, then to demonstrate maybe giving it a second chance. 🤷🏼♀️
Yes!!! It’s a fun series!
😂 Jen, I do my brows the same order! But it started out as a way to avoid staining my brow gel w brown pigment, which was a consequence of filling them in first. I totally agree-- there are no rules to makeup, and it's always better to cater to our own features to accentuate things about ourselves that we like!
Diana, I have werewolf brows and still have to fill them too match my hair ( my hair shifts to jet black to a brown black ) but I can’t over do them or they will look like two 🐛🐛
Someone in Walmart the other day said “Why she didn’t arch her brows”
Wasn’t nothing wrong with them 🤣
A couple of years ago, I started using a wax pencil on my brows and then some eye shadow or pencil, and then a clear brow gel.
I agree, brow setting first, let it dry then pencil in otherwise it will remove the fill in if you set after. Thanks to you xx
That is why I set mine first,
I think my biggest regret buying a product is the Cle De Peau concealer. After paying a ridiculous amount I was so disappointed. The coverage was pretty good but it showed fine lines I didn't know I even had. I'm not saying it is a bad concealer but just did not work for me.
Lash Princess is the mascara that makes me look like a panda, i HATE it. I cant figure out y so many love it.
That was in last week's version of this video. 🥰
Im curious.
Hi Carla. Just want you to know I really miss your channel. You were so real with your advice.
@@mandiwolfe6631 🤣💀 I stop using it just to save it!
I'm surprised the most hated eyeshadow wasn't Too Faced. I love Huda Beauty eyeshadows. I feel like her color stories and textures are so interesting.
Ooo or ABH formula I was shocked when they said Huda
Or Natasha Denona. That stuff creases like crazy within an hour. Huda lasts all day long.
agreed. Love the retrograde palette specifically. Too Faced reminds me of the same quality eye shadow I would buy from CVS as a middle schooler only way more expensive
I never buy Too Faced Holiday shadows...they suckkkkk!!!!!
Had no problems with it but the pregnancy part which I don’t have any🤣
So I say that’s for someone who has dull skin concerns.
Oh I love that Laura mercier powder..its light and doesn't feel cakey on my dryer skin..funny how different product work for different people
Same here! Did not work for me at all.
Which Laura Mercier powder are you meaning? I was influenced by Emily to get the talc free pink lid one & have only used it once & thought I liked it?
@@onlytruth247 the original version. I have tried the one that Emily Noel likes too and that one wasn't as bad... but still a little too dry for me.
It’s the only one that lasts for me.
Jen, you are my favorite you tuber! I came over from your blog, when you started this channel. I played your videos for hours to help you monetize. I love your honesty and value your opinion so much. Thank you! ❤🎉😊
Wow thank you so much for being here all this time, that's amazing!! 🥰🥰❤️❤️
This was so interesting. Even though a product doesn't perform well, the way you talk about it & describe it so nicely still makes me want it.
I'm so very thankful that you're here !
For years I have been applying my highlighter BEFORE my blush. No one else did this on UA-cam, but it worked for me. So I agree, no rules in makeup.
I’m going to start doing that whenever I do wear highlighter, which I rarely do. But, what a great idea! The glow can show through without being so obvious and frosty. Thanks for that tip! 😊
That is an AMAZING hack! I bet it looks much less obvious/glowy!
That's how I do mine 😮
Do you apply highlighter before crème or liquid blushes?
@@Lucygoosey1219 no, I only use powder blush.
Patrick Ta has always and still does powder blush FIRST, and then the cream blush on top. He is a famous and very talented, makeup artist… I don’t see any other MUA’s apply blush in this order. 🤷♀️
So yes, there is no right or wrong way to apply make up.
Lately I've been enjoying the Kaja ones (that come as a little keychain!).
@dizzieblonde thank you! I will check them out😊
@@JenPhelps thank you! I'll check those out too!😊
Robert Welsh has a great video on the "rules" of make-up, but that there is not right/wrong and it's different for everyone. Recently, I've been reading comments on other platforms of people explaining the right and wrong places to put on spray-on cologne. Like, what? It's a fragrance. As long as it's not going in your face, how is there a right or wrong way to put it on??? You do you, but that also means I'll do what I want, too!
The only wrong way is the people that think it's a good idea to spray it downstairs just in case...
Well said 👏
Totally agree!
2:15 Yass I have dry and extra dry skin in the winter/Fall ( 😩 the Midwest thing )
2:43 the Haus labs and Makeup by Mario is for someone who don’t need any makeup.
3:49 I have natural ✨ skin ( I’m tan dark with yellow undertone)
It doesn’t do anything it my ALREADY TWILIGHT MELON SKIN 🤣🤣
5:59 I hate that as well.
@@lorainemcgillivray77 I've always regretted that I was too old for goth!
Are you using the Ultra Blur version of the LM powder? The lid is a different color than normal, so just asking. I’ve heard that newer version is more finely milled and looks better on dry skin than the original
Yes! I thought I got the original one but this one is Ultra Blur. It still sank into my fine lines though. :(
@@JenPhelps good to know! Thanks you saved me money yet again hahahaha
Hi Jen ! I don’t understand why some people are so meant to you. I am always looking for your video to come out and rewatch again for your honest review , thank you for your time and dedication to dig deeper and come pair product sending love and light to you ❤
14:01 nothing wrong with your brows Jen! I have thick & full brows they connect.. grows weird & messy. Your brows are beautiful.
I may be an outlier in my opinion but I LOVE how the Dior Rosy Glow blush looks on you 😍
Dior blushes are beautiful.
I love Mercury Retrograde but I am very disappointed with Rose Quartz.
I started doing my brows your way after watching one of your videos and my brows look so much better
This is why I've never banked on opinions. What works for me may not work for you. And that's cool 😎. I like finding out for myself.
Makeup and it's application are truly subject to opinions and individuals as you said.😊
Totally agree. These negative comments don’t detour me at all. I try them for myself
I am so buying that Grunge palette. It will be my first purchase from Huda. I'm already excited about it
You are the best! I love your videos. What is that red sponge you're using?
It's the Lottie London Halloween sponge. :) It's at Walmart.
I have a love/hate relationship with the maracuja juicy lips. It does get messy at times, especially here in the Florida heat, but once I get it cleaned up, I love how it feels on my lips. My lips are on the drier side.
I have a little hate relationship with it too when it gets in my hair 🤣
I tried the IT cc cream a year ago and I hated it.
In my opinion/experience ( I have dry skin. Only problem area is my dark lids and circles )
That’s why my friends and people don’t like it.
I agree! I'm not a fan of her eyeshadows either!
You can “fix” hard-pan with Scotch tape. Just pick up the top layer of caked on product (oil) with tape. 👍❤️🇨🇦
I loved tarts shape tape for my eyeshadow base!
what makes u my most favourite youtuber is this---u never give same opinion about the viral products everyone praises but point out nitty-gritty details that people do not mention...thank you!
Tarte came out with a mousterizing formula with I love. I am older and this one works great.
honestly, maximum youtubers did not cover the fact that makeup by mario and haus labs foundations are not for all skin types and they are too expensive too...especially these are not long lasting on oily skin people...i found u once mentioned about believe beauty foundation to be a dupe of haus labs (hope i am correct)...and yes, that foundation is way better and safe to spend money on...thanks
You are not doing your make up “wrong”, they are doing their comments wrong. Those comments are reflection on them, and certainly not on you.
Wrong comment : you are doing your make up wrong.
Correct comments :
Thank you for showing us products before we spend our money on them.
I use the same Mac pot and the nyx glitter glue, I swear by them both and would never change a thing. My eyeshadows last all day long with both
Same! Love them both.
Unpopular opinion - Drunk Elephant is ridiculous
I just used the Nyx Glitter eyeshadow primer. I forgot that I had it and I was going to wear a Juvia's Place pallette I used it. It worked great! The Better than S*x mascara I actually like. However, I only use it on my top lashes. Thanks for the video!
Exactly. Who really puts mascara on bottom lashes anymore.
Yes Marc jacobs mascara was great. Didn’t they discontinue that
Its difficult because people have sky- high expectations and often they dont know how to prep properly and how to use the products to get the best effect. There are ways to do things unless you dont care about the end result (since they complain, they care). Also its not like the brands provide directions either, wich is unfortunate.
I always use brow gel first then a brow pen. When I do the reverse it wipes away the pen. Took me years to figure that one out 😊
The funny thing is that I was gifted the Dior Rosy Glow blush from a friend a few years back.
For many years I always did my mascara first and then my shadow . Worked well till aging set in and droopy happened.
The color of your sweatshirt makes your eye color stand out so beautifully! If I were you, I would find every piece of clothing I could in that color!
A 60.00 pallet should NOT REQUIRE a glitter primer. I agree Buds has the worst eyeshadow Formula.
It doesn't require it but I use it with every palette to help the colors pop more.
My brows grow just like yours, sideways and down, I’ll have to try your technique cause they look so good and natural.❤
I think your brows are always looking fabulous!
You do you! It helps me to have courage to do the same. ❤️❤️❤️
That Huda palette looks like a bunch of yummy candies! ❤
I find the pressed, under eye, translucent blurring powder by Laura Mercier to be great on my 67yo skin. It blurs the obvious pores on my nose and cheeks! I know it’s not a setting powder but I don’t really use a setting powder on my dry skin.
Jen, are you going to bring back your Sunday PR hauls?? I ❤️ those videos 😢
For some reason they started getting really low views...they were some of my highest-viewed videos at one point but lately they've been the lowest. They're a lot of work so I started feeling like it wasn't worth the time I was putting in. I may bring them back at some point. 🥰
I understand 👍 I could tell that they were a lot of work and I really appreciate that. Thanks for your hard work and dedication. Love your videos ❤
Me too
Hello beautiful Jen 😍
Any one struggling with the CT flawless filter / elf halo glow please mix it into your foundation and use it. It gives a fabulous finish to your base and that's how I love using it. ❤❤
Ohhhhhh Twilight vampire sparkle?!! If that's the case I'm in!!!!
I love Thrive’s tubing mascara as well, it’s my favorite!! ✌🏻❤️
I wear it every day and not only is it my favorite highlighter, but I get compliments on it CONSTANTLY.* 🤷🏼♀️
FYI - I wear shade 1 or 2 for reference.
I never liked Huda and ABH palettes. I've bought 3 Huda palettes and 4 ABH palettes and I got rid of all of them 😒
I’m terrible at evebrows. I’m going to try your way! Also, I have naturally very straight blocky brows, and people always ask me why I don’t pluck them thin and curvy. Because I like my natural shape and I don’t want to fight it. Brow trends change, but your brows are your brows. 👍
Please don't pluck them! I did in the 90's and now mine are so thin and sparse. I wish I had fuller brows.
@@JenPhelps they look gorgeous on you though! ❤️
Try that.
