I remember playing fallout 76 in the beginning. This was back when griefing was still a major problem... But I had one moment that was exactly what I thought an open world mmog should be... I was following a quest marker into the ash heap, coming down a tall Cliff, I heard gunfire... I was hidden so I knew they weren't shooting at me. Scanning the area below me, I found a lower-level player (I was still fairly low-level as well) getting attacked and absolutely punished by a couple of mole-men. From my Obi-Wan position, I opened fire with my 308... I managed to take out the main one hassling him, and I crippled the other one so the other player could finish him off. I got the warm and fuzzies, because random chance put me in the right place and the right time to help this random Vault dweller out. The thing is, I don't really think that this other person knew I was there. I saw them immediately start to loot the bodies... But by the time I made it down to join them, they were gone. I wasn't upset by this, it was a truly random event at a time there weren't a whole lot of people to come across in Appalachia... And I think situations like that was kind of what the developers were going for when they made it so baron. Fallout 76 wasn't what I thought it was going to be... But little moments we're either I could be someone else's hero or they could be mine kept me interested while they were working on bringing the game up to speed.
Just the other day I was watching the old Infinite trailers because I thought I must've misremembered them but nope. Just a completely different game. Seems like another example of just not being there with the technology to accomplish their original vision. I wish they would someday make THAT Bioshock Infinite because they could easily hand wave the story as a separate reality.
Great video as always! If you guys plan on making a part two to this video, a game that could easily make the list would be that original Rainbow 6 Siege E3 Demo trailer. It showed the hostage interacting with the drone, dropping into the match on a chopper, etc.
I'd put The Last Of Us 2 on the list where they just switched one of the cutscenes of Joel stopping Ellie with Jesse in the game, making us think that Joel will go with Ellie.
I'm still geniunely pissed about that, then after seeing Joel died early in the game, I thought that scene was about Ellie losing her mind dealing with loss and seeing Joel during her journey but nope. Just Jesse
Anthem was legitimately so much fun to play in terms of the moment-to-moment gameplay. The sheer mobility was just a joy. A pity that the other areas of the game was a bit lacklustre, it had some good DNA to it that I think could've been a hit had it not overpromised on the trailer, and gone head-to-head with destiny.
I loved the game. Wonderful customization, decent class system, and basically an Iron Man playstyle. But the cycle was short. Once I beat the main mission and tooled around with the post game for a bit, I was satisfied and done with it.
Just started playing through Aliens Colonial Marines with the overhaul mod. I'm glad I wasn't on the hype train for it at the time but I'm still trying to manage my expectations for it, even with fan made overhauls. We have too few good Alien franchise games and I'm trying to enjoy what we do have. Hoping Dark Descent isn't a let down.
The story behind No Man's Sky is actually pretty interesting. I would suggest watching "The Engoodening of No Man's Sky" by Internet Historian if you want to know more.
And the amount of mashing for every different summon varied. Not only because you had to stop at some point in order to not lose that boost (and those pauses were RNG, IIRC), but every Guardian Force's animation times were very different. Eden is the easiest one to fully boost (you can actually have some spare time left to just watch the rest of the animation), but try that on something like Shiva or Siren for example; those are near impossible to max out without some serious mashing.
another 2 to add to a 2nd part of this if you make one, 1, All the stuff in MGS V TPP trailer that was missing from the game, cutscenes, Content, Stuff in game play trailers and 2. this one i dont think many people noticed but it sticks out to me like a sore thumb In the trailer for Days gone, the hazmat guys use a Honeybadger. While the honey badger is a real gun, the one in the trailer is based on an airsoft gun called the Ares Amoeba AM014 and AM013. you can tell from a few things, 1 the Hand guard, its designed No like any on a real fire arm, its designed FROM the airsoft company. 2. The Front sight, on the airsoft version of it, the front sight is place out of the box, In a really strange spot, the model in the game, kept it there, 3. The magazine, its the EXACT one that the airsoft company Ares designed them self for their guns.. so the hazmat guys are using airsoft guns, not real guns!
I was GOING TO say that games screw up guns all the time, but that's a whole new level right there. That's up with paintball guns, super soakers and Wii Zappers being used as guns!
My favorite part of the No Man's Sky saga was when Sean Murray said that he isn't going to spoil what is at the center of the universe, but that we REALLY want to get there. Then all it was (and still is) is the player unceremoniously leaving that galaxy to go to another one. 😆 Like some guy wanting to sell you a box for $100, and inside of it is just an invitation to buy another box. Woo! Fun!
That's not fair. At the center of the universe is an entirely new universe. An impossibly huge play area doubles the first time you get to the universe. And you can do that over 250 times. Depending on who you are, that's either amazing or dull. I see patterns in everything, so I can't imagine seeing anything significantly interesting beyond a dozen or so systems, let alone whole galaxies.
@@joshc5309 If you are the type of person that sees value in 100 billion planets to explore versus 1 billion planets, then good luck to you. For me, 200 is the max I probably ever landed on in NMS and frankly the overreliance on procedural generation made 95% of those planets feel the same and unimpressive. But I digress. The point was that the creator of the game heavily implied that there is something VERY INTERESTING at the center of the universe and all it ended up being was a "new game +" mechanic with no additions. All other games with NG+ just tell you about it; they don't try and disguise it as something profoundly interesting. He blatantly misled consumers for the sake of selling more copies, which goes for the rest of the game at launch as well.

I watched the trailer for No Man's Sky again, and it looks so barren compared to what you can do nowadays! Best rebound in gaming history imo. Such a great game now.
Also the original CP2077 trailer was a trailer made before they completely redid the entire thing from the ground up (what they worked on prior to W3 versus what they did after W3's release) It is, by all definitions, a teaser trailer.
What about the Horizon FW gameplay trailer, they show a mission that is not in the game where Aloy fights a tremortusk in the beach, also there's a gang boss that doesn't show in the game
Actually surprised Killzone 2 wasn’t included on this list. The E3 trailer was talked about for years afterwards for it’s depiction of “simulated gameplay” and how the developer lied about its validity.
Entertaining vid as usual! Though ironically, the title is rather misleading, in that the video is more about misleading trailers (false promises) than actual "mistakes people noticed in trailers". I expected a vid gamers noticing outrageous story or graphical errors in trailers, at the time the trailers came out.
Interesting to consider something from the Batman cinematic to be a mistake for not being in the game. I never watched a final fantasy cinematic and got upset that my characters couldn't do what was happening in the cinematic.
I think it’s because the two are so insanely different. Like, if I’m playing a JRPG, I understand that my characters are limited to exclusively what I can do in my menus. In action games, it’s harder to suspend your disbelief; I have near full control of my character. If Batman can jump in the air and throw batarangs at an enemy, why couldn’t I do that? Just my take, of course.
honestly, when i comes to crackdown 3 i saw as the first trailer a different one (think it was a e3 2017 one...featuring Beast song),whene Terry himself says stuff like "you´ll be dropping buildings" but as someone to whom english is not native i took it as some kind of idiom for "you´ll be causing so much chaos, the citizens would rather see the city to be leveled and and them dead." especially when after that the trailer shown our character having enough strenght to lift and throw a car but there was no building collapsing.
I remember the destruction in Red Faction Guerrilla being incredible and really looking forward to see what they could achieve in the future but they released a terrible game that barely used the destruction. I remember seeing the trailer and knowing I was not going to buy it. Also the multiplayer was super underrated and so much fun.
They should reboot descent which was spun off into the red fraction series but it had mining space crafts. It was one of the first truly polyogon games and the first to have full 3d camera control. Well I think the lower polygon design of the ships would allow for the best environmental destruction.
I'd like to point out something about No Man's Sky's poor release. Two of the major factors leading up to it's poor launch was that 1, They got placed on a deadline by their publisher that they couldn't negotiate on and 2, Their office got caught up in a flood and their equipment became exposed to the water. Now Sean, he's a great guy, but he is socially awkward and he had to have someone do PR for a game that had no PR, so he did it himself and you can see how that went. Like I said though, he isnt a bad guy, and Hello Games had every intention of delivering the game they advertised, so after release, Sean had everyone get back to work on trying to improve the game and bring in the features they promised, all while Sean himself hardwired their business emails to filter all the hate mail and threats from disgruntled customers toward himself and only himself. There's a whole video detailing Hello Games's side of the story leading up to and after the bad launch of No Man's Sky, and I'd reccommend anyone who is interested to check it out, as Hello Games is one of those few rare Game Studios that make games not for absolute profitability, but for passion and genuine respect of their consumers.
0:49. Tbf the PSMove is actually pretty accurate. I bought it back in the PS3 era and played a heck ton of Sports Champions and that game does precise spatial tracking of your hands for games like table tennis and disc golf. Pretty minuscule differences in hand position/orientation do change a lot how the projectile reacts. The Wii (with MotionPlus) has full orientation tracking. The Kinect has full position tracking. The PSMove combines the motion sensors in the controllers with the spatial tracking of a light ball to provide absolutely amazing position and orientation tracking to the point SONY is still using that same controller for PSVR
Say what u want about watch dogs 1, it was definitely a refreshing open world gameplay approach. I absolutely loved it. They definitely went downhill with WD2 & 3 😬
Why does he always pronounce Bandai like that in every video he mentions them? lol the proper pronunciation sounds closer to the American way it's pronounced than the way he says it. it always throws me off
The Arkham City trailer is not just a trailer, it is also part of the prologue, basically. That all happens immediately before Bruce gets captured by Strange, which is the start of the game, and Bruce thus starts without any equipment
Prey 2. According to an article I read that interviewed people who were involved, the publisher did a surprise inspection of the developer some time after the gameplay trailer that hyped everyone up. They found that not only was the "gameplay" trailer completely fake, and just bullshot, but the game build in its current state at the time wasn't even close to pulling off what the trailer promised. It was very clear that the devs weren't capable of pulling it off at all. So the publisher got so pissed about the deception, because on previous scheduled, announced, visits the devs fooled the publisher with the fake gameplay footage, that they not only canceled that version of the game, but closed the developer.
Aliens colonial marines is the one instance where I would actually say the trailers were false advertising because they used completely nonexistent graphics and other elements that simply didn't exist in the final game TO ADVERTISE THE FINAL GAME. It wasn't like it was just an e3 demo a year prior or anything. This stuff was present in every single promotional material at every point in development including release. I still remember the graphical differences from the steam page to the actual game lol.
We don't talk about Biomutant here. Not that there was any mistake in the trailer, but it felt like they gave everything in that said vertical slice (gosh, the game even starts with that cutscene) but then, it just felt empty. So much hype, but the game itself needed a lot more work and love, in my opinion.
when NMS released i put more than 100 hours in before i realized i wasn't just getting the "procedurally-generated short straw" and the game was in fact missing a lot of content lol
to be honest, watchdogs is a good game with a intriguing way of doing a revenge story. It was a great time playing it. But yeah the side missions are, collectibles are... just... pain, and felt like a chore. The murder mystery was alright, could've done something more with it tho.
What about DMC: Devil May Cry (Reboot, Reimagine) That first teaser trailer looked to have given us a different story that we actually got. We didn’t get Dante chained up and beaten badly. Kind of looked like he was in a psych ward or something. I remember that trailer so well.

I remember when the first trailer for Pokemon X & Y came out and when the player character went to swing on a rope the glasses he was wearing was left behind. they didn't move with the character, haha
Rome 2 was a bit like the watch dogs one, the launch was full of bugs like cyberpunk and huge trailer hype was generated like no mans sky, there were a lot of people rightfully very upset by it
Shout-out for basically _every_ licensed Activision game of the 2000s for trying to deceive grandparents and other non-gamers with their 100% CG trailers that, believe it or not, did trick them into thinking that's what the games actually were.
Final Fantasy 8 - Your thumbs will be sore. They will... when summoning a GF for the 1000th time and you have to mash the button repeatedly during the animation.
"Was this an accident?" "No, but that doesn't make it not a mistake." Mmmm yes. Was it the surface of the house? Yes, but that doesn't make it a floor.
The Batman AC trailer takes place before the events of the game though. When he was incarcerated, all he had access to was his original suit; he didn’t expect the night to take long either.
5:17 Those enemies are in the game, they were just changed so that they were headless, iirc. I think you can find the mask to wear too, but it's appearance was altered so that it looks more like a face?
Remember Me, which ironically nobody remembers. It had a fantastic gameplay trailer where the character traverses the open city a-la Assassin's Creed, with robots and police standing guard. The character climbs on walls to spy on two guards and to steal a memory out of them. She then continues climbing buildings until she reaches her target's window, then she performs the cool memory mixing. The game that came out was linear. So linear than you can't get past ankle-high obstacles but the character could leap her height using only the tips of her fingers while scaling a scripted climbing section. The whole gameplay was reduced to flashbacks, and you get the memory mixing in the actual game.
I want to point out that in the Watch Dogs files that had the graphical options used in the E3 trailer, the files were literally named things like "E3 trailer lighting effects" and whatnot.

What are u talking bout lol,The first watch dogs is a great game,Only issue was the graphics controversy which lets be honest every game trailer makes the game look way better than it actually is,Remastering watch dogs is not needed imo unless your someone who loves Graphical enhancements
@@PhantomRemmy yes. I love graphical enhancements as well as an improved version of a game. How can you not like an improved version of a game that you love? Don't you want your favourite games/franchises be better than they already are? A redemption is always welcomed in times like these where the whole franchise might get shelved. If you don't want that then my friend you are trying to sabotage a franchise here.
I loved Watch Dogs even if the graphics were downgraded from the trailer. But yes, given the tech and abundance of remasters today, I would love to see a re-release with updated graphics to match what they originally advertised
@@mohammadashikurrahman7530 the point is watch dogs 1 is still considered a modern game,It doesn't need a remaster,Hell its better than most games nowadays,Not saying it doesn't deserve a remaster,it just doesn't need one,Maybe wait a couple more years when technology has advanced again them maybe then it can get a proper remaster. Because in today's age remaster are just quick cash grabs, rarely do you get a decent remaster.
@@PhantomRemmy I am talking about a remaster not a remake. An upgrade to the existing base game. Like the Witcher 3. That's it. You misunderstood what I meant by remaster.
I thank you so much for starting to post earlier in the day. Helps me be able to watch before work
I remember a case of lawsuit regarding the white mask for Dark Souls 2, which made them deleting it from the game. But it has been replaced by the Manikin mask that you can drop from Manikin in Earthen Peak.
I'm surprised Bioshock Infinite didnt make the list they had a trailer that was a whole different game entirely
probably because the game itself was really good
Just the other day I was watching the old Infinite trailers because I thought I must've misremembered them but nope. Just a completely different game. Seems like another example of just not being there with the technology to accomplish their original vision. I wish they would someday make THAT Bioshock Infinite because they could easily hand wave the story as a separate reality.
@John Nahle games being good or bad isnt really a factor in the list
@ShadowEagle141 but it being a good gm negates the fact the trailer was misleading.
@@DR.K14 the whole video is about misleading trailers...
That wasn't a mistake tho. That was an intentional decision
@@julianharrison7193 Mistakes don’t have to be accidents, as falcon mentioned with cyberpunk 7:37
@@Snow.2040 accidents involve cars. there aren't any cars in last of us 2 so it couldnt be a mistake
In that case, you should include Metal Gear Solid 2 on that same list as well.
Jontron doing the Han Solo dance was the best part of Kinect Star Wars
Just started playing through Aliens Colonial Marines with the overhaul mod. I'm glad I wasn't on the hype train for it at the time but I'm still trying to manage my expectations for it, even with fan made overhauls. We have too few good Alien franchise games and I'm trying to enjoy what we do have. Hoping Dark Descent isn't a let down.
I just KNEW those Division trailers were gonna make this list. Maybe a part 2?
The story behind No Man's Sky is actually pretty interesting. I would suggest watching "The Engoodening of No Man's Sky" by Internet Historian if you want to know more.
No Man’s Sky promising us our friends were “in the game” we just had to find them 🥴🤣😭 you ain’t had to lie to us like that
FF8 did have button mashing. You mashed the button to boost your summons. So they weren't lying.
Yes and there were sore thumbs afterwards I'm so glad you guys pointed this out.
I remember getting blisters at the beginning. That's even worse than sore fingers.
Also leons limit break made you have to time button presses
@@ryancraig110 Yeah, but that is not even remotely close to what GF Boosting is.
another 2 to add to a 2nd part of this if you make one,
1, All the stuff in MGS V TPP trailer that was missing from the game, cutscenes, Content, Stuff in game play trailers
and 2. this one i dont think many people noticed but it sticks out to me like a sore thumb
In the trailer for Days gone, the hazmat guys use a Honeybadger. While the honey badger is a real gun, the one in the trailer is based on an airsoft gun called the Ares Amoeba AM014 and AM013. you can tell from a few things, 1 the Hand guard, its designed No like any on a real fire arm, its designed FROM the airsoft company.
2. The Front sight, on the airsoft version of it, the front sight is place out of the box, In a really strange spot, the model in the game, kept it there,
I love the Yakuza 4 story trailer here in the west. SEX, VIOLENCE, MC IS BAD. The marketing made it seem like Japanese GTA. What a gem.
hey i never played any yakuza games, which game should i start with?

Fuck no, the PS4 remasters of the PS2 games are way better.
Those white mask people in dark souls 2 are kinda in the game. It’s the manikin assassins you find in the poisoned windmill area if i’m not mistaken
> "BioWare's most public failure"
I see your Anthem, and raise you one Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.
There are many more. Forza Horizon 4 trailer has a car hitting a tree in the distance. GTA 5 next-gen trailer has Lester sitting on 2 chairs, etc.
@LT-dn7mt AAA gaming as a whole, if you ask me. Starfield broke the camels back for me; indies and exceptional AA games for only.
Guys do you have any idea that for 4 fucking years you've accompanied me through both lunch and dinner? Every. Single. Day. Thanks for existing!
5:16 Actually, they are in the game. They're called Manikins You encounter them in the Earthern Peak, albeit without their heads, which is why most people don't recognize them due to not having their masks.
NERD!!!
For those who aren't sure what ASA stands for it's "Advertising Standards Agency" and as mentioned in the video is UK based.
I watched the trailer for No Man's Sky again, and it looks so barren compared to what you can do nowadays! Best rebound in gaming history imo. Such a great game now.
Also the original CP2077 trailer was a trailer made before they completely redid the entire thing from the ground up (what they worked on prior to W3 versus what they did after W3's release)
It is, by all definitions, a teaser trailer.
What about the Horizon FW gameplay trailer, they show a mission that is not in the game where Aloy fights a tremortusk in the beach, also there's a gang boss that doesn't show in the game
Another amazing video! Thank you Gameranx!!
Rdr2 and gta5 gameplay better than trailer footages. Hopefully gta6 continues 🙌
Actually surprised Killzone 2 wasn’t included on this list. The E3 trailer was talked about for years afterwards for it’s depiction of “simulated gameplay” and how the developer lied about its validity.
Would've loved to see Bioshock Infinite on this list. What they presented in early trailers vs what we got was night and day.
Worst shotgun ever
Amazing video bro!
THIS is the #1 reason we don't have any Spider-Man 2 trailers. They got trashed so much over puddles, they probably said no trailers this time
the trailers or cutscenes or the gameplay trailer are never the same. its just a marketting gimmick BOY!
That title is a very polite way of saying "10 times publishers outright lied in the trailers"
Rare instance when the actual game looks better than the trailer and no one does it better than rockstar
5:29 This is definitely one of the sarcastic laughs of all time, truly
I love watch dogs 1
I love you falcon 💜💜💜
This video is a perfect example of why Gameranx has superior content.
Say what u want about watch dogs 1, it was definitely a refreshing open world gameplay approach. I absolutely loved it. They definitely went downhill with WD2 & 3 😬
Oh my god, i didn't know about that Kinect star wars chris prayt ad, but damn i gotta check it out now

No
its not a mistake, its a feature!
It’s catfish
FF8 not button mashing? have you ever tried to buff a summon to the max while hitting select and mash that square button?
I was thinking this would cover stuff more like the Starfield E3 trailer, where a dead enemy glitched into the ceiling.
Good
Another that I remebered from the Anthem trailer issue was the contextual buttons from PS and Xbox controller
It's kind of like order a burger at Mcdonald. It's never the same lol
Love the diplomatic way of saying "10 times trailers lied to us!" or "ten times trailers totally bullshitted"! yeah... "mistakes" lol
Imagine presenting your "Yes, that us a gun in our package and we are happy to see you" ad to a room full of executives
Great Video as always! 🙏🏻
Good video once again 👍🏼👍🏼
when NMS released i put more than 100 hours in before i realized i wasn't just getting the "procedurally-generated short straw" and the game was in fact missing a lot of content lol
to be honest, watchdogs is a good game with a intriguing way of doing a revenge story. It was a great time playing it. But yeah the side missions are, collectibles are... just... pain, and felt like a chore. The murder mystery was alright, could've done something more with it tho.
What about DMC: Devil May Cry (Reboot, Reimagine)
That first teaser trailer looked to have given us a different story that we actually got.
We didn’t get Dante chained up and beaten badly.
Kind of looked like he was in a psych ward or something.
I remember that trailer so well.
Need for Seed Most Wanted 2012 had a Hummer H1 trailer. That SUV was cut from the final game but with PC mods you can add it back in.
anyone else see the no mans sky video with the bad recorder music in the style of jurassic park? if not, you should. so perfect. Thank you for the video I was rolling laughing at this one falcon.
I'd love to see a history episode covering older news sources like GameInformer magazine and how games looked in print vs release like Borderlands did.
wasn't there a boost ability for summons on Final Fantasy 8's summon system where you did mash the square button? thus technically making your thumbs sore?
Nice to know that somebody else also remembers it :)
I remember when the first trailer for Pokemon X & Y came out and when the player character went to swing on a rope the glasses he was wearing was left behind. they didn't move with the character, haha
Another amazing top 10 by the great Falcon 💪💪
The Key and Peele right after announcing Crackdown 3 🤣🤣🤣
Rome 2 was a bit like the watch dogs one, the launch was full of bugs like cyberpunk and huge trailer hype was generated like no mans sky, there were a lot of people rightfully very upset by it
Remember how they put flags to capture and the A.I. would ignore EVERYTHING to beeline those damn things?
Shout-out for basically _every_ licensed Activision game of the 2000s for trying to deceive grandparents and other non-gamers with their 100% CG trailers that, believe it or not, did trick them into thinking that's what the games actually were.
Final Fantasy 8 - Your thumbs will be sore. They will... when summoning a GF for the 1000th time and you have to mash the button repeatedly during the animation.
"Was this an accident?"
"No, but that doesn't make it not a mistake."
Mmmm yes. Was it the surface of the house?
Yes, but that doesn't make it a floor.
The Batman AC trailer takes place before the events of the game though. When he was incarcerated, all he had access to was his original suit; he didn’t expect the night to take long either.
5:17
Those enemies are in the game, they were just changed so that they were headless, iirc. I think you can find the mask to wear too, but it's appearance was altered so that it looks more like a face?
5:23 i was waiting for this meme from the beginning 😂😂
1:39 - _"Ha ha, I'm a jedi!"_ lol
I was waiting for No Man's Sky to pop up. 🤣
I want to point out that in the Watch Dogs files that had the graphical options used in the E3 trailer, the files were literally named things like "E3 trailer lighting effects" and whatnot.
