having marched in the Cadets snare line (79-84), I wished I could've stayed with the Cadets until I aged out of the DCI activity in 87.....that was a great show, both musically and drill design, and I loved how they marched themselves off the field in Finals...although it would've been great to end my time with with The Cadets with a drum trophy and title, I'm thankful that I was able to be a part of drum corps....the friendships, lessons learned, and experiences were worth more than anyone could ever know...in 79, we came in last in just about every competition, and we never lost hope...experiencing so much loss in the beginning made me (and the rest of us) appreciate the winning that eventually came down the road.....to rise from 16th, to 10th, to 7th, to 3rd, and then to 1st in 83, and then again 1st in 84....there are thousands of other people that marched who experienced quite a bit and whose drum corps lives would make for a classic novel or movie...maybe someday, that'll happen...(they've made enough Rocky movies, so why not about drum corps?) thanks for posting this video!

There's so many wacky things in this video:
    - 4:04 The announcer says Bluecoats in the weirdest way possible
    - 5:40 The Madison Scouts drum major has a kid that's dressed in a scouts uniform
    - 7:45 The Cavaliers do somewhat of a salute ?

I’m guessing since this was in Madison, Wisconsin, a little bit of that midwestern accent had to come through with saying “Bluecoats” 😂😂😂

7:45 the Cadets kinda salute in what looks Cadet pajamas hanging off his body while all the other DMs look so sharp and perfect

You can tell who is getting what placing by watching where the camera person goes before the announcer says anything!

@@KiranSundarkdog97 I wonder why. Crocker was there, at least for Quarterfinals, because I talked to him.

No, somebody donated to DCI, and we got this chump (also at 1991 Preview of Champions). No rhythm to his voice.

He was a radio guy from a Madison station that was sponsoring the show.

Garfield pulls a perfect score in drums? Yup, they were awesome, but were they PERFECT? NOPE.

    • @tomshea8382
      @tomshea8382 Рік тому

"Perfect" is relative when you're referring to judging criteria. It's entirely possible that the judges heard and saw no mistakes, given that no human being is omniscient. That was a really good drumline and they were all over the field.

This is why I hate Cadets. They're always stealing medals from Santa Clara, then and now.

    • @mholub

+Brian Arzola (STARZ1128) Stealing? We earned them, just like all the DCI Corps who've won championships!

I would understand if it was by even slightly greater margins. But this happens almost every year. 2013 for example. They both got within the tiniest margin of each other. And it's almost always Santa Clara on the bottom.

+Brian Arzola (STARZ1128) I've been in the activity since 1963. I was on the Garfield Cadets percussion staff 1982, '83 and '84. I'm still involved in the activity. And if you're correct, that "almost always Santa Clara on the bottom...." I'm not sure why you would "hate" the Cadets. Hate is a strong word. "Frustrated......" I could understand. "Hate......" I can't quite wrap my mind around that. Sorry, Brian. I have a great deal of respect for SCV and used to compete against them when I marched in St. Rita's Brassmen in 1969 - 1973 and we beat them a few times too. They're a GREAT corps and have a fantastic organization and I didn't "hate" them after they turned their backs on us after we beat them in the '83 championship. I have a copy of the letter that Gayle Royer sent to George Hopkins apologizing for that. It is what it is......

I'm not saying I'm completely against the Cadets. I'm from Jersey so I know they're the best corp to ever be from here. But still... I see at this point that the Cadets are Santa Clara's biggest rivals, and it's way to close.

BTW, Cadets 2000 is my second favorite show so...
