I’ve been “playing guitar” since 1982 although half that time, my Les Paul copy was in storage 😢 then I gave it to a friend to repair it. He then moved from LA to Arizona but I’ve bought a Fender Strat in 2018 to go with my two Takamine acoustic guitars (6 & 12 string). All that is to say that I have NEVER owned a single pedal until I bought myself the MX5 for Christmas and my birthday (New Years day). I am a complete novice to pedals let alone models and processors but I’ve found your videos EXTREMELY helpful. Thank you so very much and please keep it up, thank you.
Outstanding! I get my MX5 on Friday. After 30 years of tube amps, this is my first venture into the modeling world. Subscribing to get the help I know I will need. Thanks for this.
That was really really good , I don’t have an MX5 but always kinda liked headrush stuff ,I ddnt understand scenes & rigs but after your explanations it seems a really simple unit to use
Great video! Would also love to see how to record a dry signal at the same time a distortion signal into a daw through an audio interface (and maybe compare the tones vs direct with USB?). Then, a good follow up video (or part 2) of that would be how to re-amp the DI using the Headrush with your daw. 👍🏻
Just got MX5 and learning how to use it still. I'm weaning off my old Line6 AX2 amp, believe it or not. I'm performing every other week indoors and have big outdoor rock gig in 2 weeks. I've done UA-cam practice tutorial and made a clean and two high gain for solo and drive. Here's my questions: 1) Rig output volume is generally very low and have to max out amp or cabinet gain, or just turn overall volume knob way up, which effects next rig I select. 2) How to even find the three rigs I built? 3) How to assign them to three foot switches for easy change while playing live. 4) Scene: very nice. All desired affects in one scene, then activate the ones you want for each scene. What's the difference between that and 3) above? 5) Wah and volume pedal, how to assign to pedal? Is there a wah effect?
I'm glad I found this video. I use the Helix Floor and my workflow is to have a preset for each song and use snapshots within each preset to change my rig. I am looking at the MX5 as a second modeler to use as a backup for the Helix and maybe for a solo gig. The scenes feature is comparable to the Helix snapshots so the MX5 seems very useful. I like that it can hold many blocks too. The problem with the smaller Helix unit the HX Stomp is that it has limited blocks so my Helix Floor presets are not really going to work in the Stomp, and the Stomp also has no built in expression pedal that I want. The MX5 seems like a more affordable and better solution for me than the HX Stomp or the HX Stomp XL. I may miss not having a pc editor for the MX5 but the touch screen seems very intuitive. I may buy one. Also enjoyed your video comparing the MX5 to the Nu-X MG30.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I just purchased the MX5. I tried doing these same scenes and they sound great. But I then plugged it into a normal Marshall head (clean channel) through 4x12 and it sounded not the same and terrible.. Am I missing something on the outputs? TIA🤘

Hi the pedal guy. Fan of your videos! mx5 user here & looking for some help. I’m struggling to set the output volume on my preset scenes. I amend the output on 1 of them but applies the same to all scenes. Any tips please? Thanks
Any chance you could demo a low gain large stereo spread tone using the dual amp and cab features along with any effects with width adjustments that may be available ??
Thanks for the video 👍🏻 I just bought an Mx5 , I must say it's not very intuitive. I only see one footswitch - prev rig - next rig as footswitch options, not 3 separate pedals, any idea what I'm doing wrong.
Hi, very good video. From your 3 scene's how would you quickly get to your next rig on the fly. For example I am a guitar vocalist so I will use the 3 scene's on a medley and of course my 3 footswiches are in use, so whilst I am talking to the audience introducing my next song how much foot fiddling will I have to do to get to my next rig/patch for other scenes, thank you.
So to optimize this for a gigging musician could you create rigs, named for songs in your setlist for a gig (each rig has 3 scenes, say S1 Intro, S2 Rhythm and S3 Lead) but then what pedal mode would allow me to sequentially move to the next song/rig and have the three scenes show on each footswitch?
There's a couple of things you could do. 1. Toggle out of Scene mode, choose the next rig in your Setlist, then go back to the Scene mode. 2. Get an external MIDI footswitch to switch rigs via MIDI PG.
This is quite late, but you can also stomp the middle and right buttons together to go to the next rig, and do left and middle together to go back, right?
Enjoy your videos. I tried making scenes following you directions. When I have rig with 3 scenes they do not show on foot switch. What am I doing wrong?

@@ThePedalGuy awesome thank you bro. I'm currently gigging with the Axe Fx III, but would like something more compact. I owned the original Eleven Rack and I used to get great sounds outta that thing! New sub, thx again Scott!
This might be a silly question, but does 3 scenes mean you actually have 4 scenes in that you have your standard rig (1), then scene one turned on (2), and so on to scene three (4)?
Is there a way to copy a pedal and save it so that I can quickly use it in another rig/scene? For example, I love the Delay in the "I have Become" preset. I want to copy that pedal so that I can use it without having to start from scratch everytime.
You can definitely save your own presets and name them. This is useful when creating scenes.. not sure though if saves the presets globally or just for the rig you’re working on.. will check that. Great vid very helpful and picked up a few new things, thanks!!
Can you please check MX5 with an external midi pedal(something cheap like fcb1010) This will make or break the deal ..Hope we can assign more than 3 scenes with external midi pedal
Hi.it works fine with an external midi controller. I set it up with an Ampero control yesterday. You can actually answer the question by going to the mx5 manual on the Headrush site and looking up the list of midi controllers that are available.
Hey Scott of course this is cool, but let me ask can I assign a preset inside of a block of another preset? Let's say I want to create a preset. On the first clock, can I assign another into another preset? Thanks.
Each Scene can have a different preset for the effect. For example, Scene 1 could have the Anxiety OD on one preset. Scene 2 could then have the same instance of the Anxiety OD with a different preset.
Hi I may have asked this question before, if I have I'm sorry, but is there an editor for PC Windows 10, that I can use to edit my presets. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the touchscreen, but it would interesting if it has an editor.
Thanks for your question. There isn’t an editor. HR will likely never have one as it’s all done from the touchscreen. While some of the editors are good like the NuX quicktone, some of them get so deep in the weeds that it just makes the whole process overwhelming. I think that’s why HR doesn’t have any plans for an editor. Keep the creativity flowing.
@@ThePedalGuy Oh thank you so much! Sorry for the many questions, I got the MX5, but I am thinking of getting the MG 30? Can you please tell which of these units more like a real amp? Thank you.

Is it possible to add a wav file to scenes or to a song preset (in the setlist ) so that each scene or preset in the setlist can have a different backing loop to play along to ?
Can we add external footswitches or midi footswitch to add more scene than having only 3 science. I'm just wondering if we can set scene as song parts (intro, verse, chorus, Bridge etc.) and 1 song sometimes could go more than 3 parts.
You can add more footswitches, but the MX5 is limited to 3 scenes at this time. I'm sure users have asked HR to implement this in a future update. We'll just have to wait and see.
@@ThePedalGuy They really should add the option to be able to use an dual external footswitch via the expression jack and have it programmable for different functions like many other manufacturers, it may at least make me buy a MX5 since i feel that its a bit to few switches. A version of the MX5 with a similar footswitch number and size like the Line6 POD Go might be even better, but i think i could live with the two extra external switches. I dont want to have to use midi.
OK, so how do I get to scenes of a rig "on the fly" during a gig? Say I have a rig that has "clean," "dirty," and "solo" scenes - how do I get to that rig and then switch scenes?
For the love of god what am I doing wrong. I recently bought an MX5 and I dig it but this is so frustrating. I followed your video and I created a rig then I wanted to create scenes within the rig. I have a clean and dirty two amp head set up in the rig and I want to create the 3 scenes. I can go into scene one and create the scene no problem. I can go into scene 2 and 3 but it won’t let me change colors and when I save and go back to main screen I only have scene 1. The other two switched that are supposed to be scene 2 and 3 say next rig or back rig. What in gods name am I doing wrong! Nice channel by the way but I’m ready to throw this thing out the window!!
Hi Jay. Thanks for watching. I literally show you how to change the color per Scene so if you are unable to reproduce that, you might want to first make sure you're using the latest firmware and secondly reach out to the HR team for some 1:1 help.
Can modules be changed in a scene. Like in scene 1 you're using a twin reverb and in scene 2 changing the amp to a Marshall. Also how good is the tracking of the pitch shifter? To use to detune your guitar for like a particular song live. 2 semi tones to 4 semi tones.. Does it have any wobble? Cheers.
Unfortunately no. However you can get around this by having two amps in a rig and then use the scenes function to toggle between them just like I did in this video.
hey, just picked one of these pedals up this week, as i have the pedalboard version also. i set up 3 rigs clean/dirty/lead going direct into a headrush frfr108 and the bass is very boomy, i tamed bass on amp/comp/dyneq and still bass heavy on low strings and messed with input/output settings and only thing that did was make the high end very brittle and scratchy. any thing i may be missing to correct this? thanks.
Great stuff. Just ordered the MX5, would love to see an example of a split path where you can have L side/output using a cab and R side/output using an IR. Headrush says it's the only way to split the outputs for a live setup, where you send 1 output to a real stage cab, and 1 output to FOH/IEM's. Is there another way to do it?
@@ThePedalGuy Thanks! Do you lose the amount of fx you can add when you do this kind of split? In the pics I've seen of the split paths, seems like there are only 2 options, and in ether case, where the split occurs, you only have 4 blocks to use for L & R, and you would need to use 1 on each side for a cab or IR,, unless there's another way? It's too band you can't just use a regular path and have a split at the very end. for the amp/IR...or is there?

Think I want one
We got em. Just got restocked
Hello, make the first switch send me to Patch 1, and the next switch send me to Patch 2 Like the old multi-effects?
OK, so how do I get to scenes of a rig "on the fly" during a gig? Say I have a rig that has "clean," "dirty," and "solo" scenes - how do I get to that rig and then switch scenes?
You would need to press and hold the first footswitch to switch to rig mode, select the rig, then switch back to stomp mode where your scenes would be
That seems pretty tricky during a gig.
@@troychrisman2035 another way would be to use something like the Ampero Control and set it up via midi.
Is it even comparable to boss gt 100?
Never used a GT100 so I couldn't give you an objective answer.
@@ThePedalGuy yeah I upgraded first thing when I got it no problem. I will keep trying but I’ve got to be doing something wrong
@@romjay5150 You'll get it. I'm sure.
And the pitch shifting is great.
Thanks for the info. Would be great if you could do a video showing the detune function..
Cheers
Btw it's possible to change the amp type, speaker type and other modules in a scene, as per the official headrush video
@@theorthodoxjukebox3424 okey dokey. Thanks for sharing!
hey, just picked one of these pedals up this week, as i have the pedalboard version also. i set up 3 rigs clean/dirty/lead going direct into a headrush frfr108 and the bass is very boomy, i tamed bass on amp/comp/dyneq and still bass heavy on low strings and messed with input/output settings and only thing that did was make the high end very brittle and scratchy. any thing i may be missing to correct this? thanks.
Is not full explained.... So many another setting and issues have created scene and you 0 say about it 🤔
🤷♂️
@@ThePedalGuy is really problem to me
Great stuff.
Sounds correct to me.
@@sbrave I've never had to set up an A/B split with the HR so I'm not sure I'm the right guy to answer that.
@@ThePedalGuy ok, thx!
