    I got mine a week ago, I love that there's a lot more DSP power than the Pod Go, so you can do stereo rigs and be less limited on what kind of signal chain you want to use.
    The setlist function to organize rigs together is really great. There's a couple patches that I use for everything, plus a couple that are dialed in for specific songs, it's super easy to have different setlists that contains my all-around presets plus a couple other song-specific rigs.

      Cheers Nathan, it's always fun shooting out multi FXs. The only problem is, that it takes sooooo much longer to prepare a video like this. haha! Instead of plugging everything in, playing it for 5 minutes and done, it's more like 1,5 - 2 hours of tweaking before we can hit record. 😆 But it's important to cover these babies too, since so many use them and want to know more about them. Thanks for watching! //Kris

    I have the MX5. I chose it because of its ability to load dual amps and cabs, the stereo effects loop and more horsepower under the hood than the other ones in the same price range. You can actually store ideas with the looper too, handy when you don't have access to a recorder and don't want to lose an idea. No buyers remorse here, pleased as punch.

      @@iloveitall I've taken a lot of time making all my own presets over the months. It sounds and feels amazing to me. I do find that in some patches I am having to use 2 compressors to get the string feel and snap I'm looking for. It's not a high priced unit, for the money I am amazed. I play a bit of everything, rock, blues, fusion, etc. I've never had an amp that sounded this good, or this portable. I use the para eq on most rigs, that's where you can really make the tone shine or dull it down a bit. I'm using this box with a pair of powered monitors with 10 inch speakers and tweeters. This really helps for the stereo separation when using 2 cabs and or 2 amps and stereo effects.

    Awesome video, and something that helped me commit on a MX5. (BTW, I really love all of your videos and interviews Kris. You've got great insights, interesting knowledge, and an infectious energy - keep up the amazing work!)
    Regarding "replacing" a preset on the MX5, you can only rename one and delete the old one. But that's not really how they envision that you use it. There's enough room for as many presets as you want, so the numbering in front is just for sort order convenience and nothing else, just like a filename. You can have several presets that start with "003" for example. The way the MX5 helps the player keep their options together isn't by number, but by creating a set list. Make a new set list and then just tap all of the presets to add them to that list. Anytime that setlist is active, the short list of presets you've added will be all you'll see. Honestly, it took a bit to get used to that, but it's a much more natural and "computer literate friendly" way to do it than the concept of physically numbered presets that we've all gotten so used to.

    Since 2011.. we use them less and less..
    And basicly 2 years ago.. i sold all of them.
    Got almost 100 000k..
    And now we are using mostly modeler...
    I got de quad dsp.. kemper... and headrush.. all version.
    Cost me under 10k.
    And it does the full job
    Without maintenance.
    This revolution is aka digital camera.. cell phone etc
    Real amp are important to remain in boutique maker..and giant.
    But they are almost a gone era already.
    As soom as these modeler got lelatenxy under 3ms... that was game over for real amp. They are near perfect these day.

    Happy user of pod go here. Best purchase in few years and after almost a year using it I'm still amazed of the features. Just started playing around with additional footswitch which I use to control settings inside a pedal. Eg. changing the level of gain instead of having it on/off (thats another pedal ;). Was supprised how good the Ampero sounded though but I like the expression pedal being natural size instead of those minis on all other units.

    One issue I had with the DNAfx Git was that it sounded great with headphones but not really good through an amp, as well as some noise which made me have to use a noise gate on most presets, is there a way to fix that?

  • @donald-parker
    @donald-parker 2 роки тому +3

    Good one. I got a Zoom G5n a few years ago. I never use the presets - I just regard them as "demos of what is possible". A big part of what makes them useless is their volume is all over the map. I'm more or less happy with it, but for one big flaw - it is not responsive to guitar volume. Particularly for higher gain sounds. Instead of cleaning up when you turn the guitar volume down, it just sort of fizzles out. Not a nice sound at all. But I do like the built in USB audio interface - I use it to record on my computer. And the pitch shift can really be handy (I generally avoid using it like the plague, but every once and a while you find a singer who can't handle the normal key, and a song that relies heavily on open strings or notes that would just be beyond the range of a standard tuned guitar). Sturdy, reliable ... its OK. Not super inspiring, but functional. It would have been nice to see a summary chart at the end of your comparison. Price, clean tone rating, crunch tone rating, high gain tone rating, "live use" rating ... obviously just based on your subjective opinions, but I think you guys have pretty darn good opinions 😉

    I have both the Hotone and MX-5. Both are great but the MX-5 sounds MUCH better in a mix and never runs out of DSP and is so easy to use!. Also MX-5 footswitch configurations are way more usable in a live situation! Setlists on MX-5 are great! Hotone now has a compressor model with a Blend control which is cool ... MX-5 needs to add a modern compressor with a blend control! I continue to check out Line6 stuff but I Stopped using Line6 gear years ago as they have have a 'plasticy" sheen to their sound that makes my ears crazy and they have become overpriced! Nice Video!

I have the Ampero which has 9 slots in the chain and it craps itself beyond 6 the sound starts to break up i.e. latency occurs as the processor struggles to generate the sound . I have contacted Hotone they say it's a hardware issue. Question: why make something then sell it when you can't use to it's full potential ???

I have a lot of rigs that use all 11 spaces, i'll have a compressor, gate, chorus, flanger, doubler, wah, volume, chorus, tube screamer or some other distortion, equalizers etc.. of course like regular pedals you have to go into each pedal and adjust it to get the sound just right and balanced, but yeah it handles it all just fine.

    have both the line6 and the headrush, I find creating a usable tone with the mx5 easier and more organic, the line6 ability to assign multiple parameters to any footswitch is killer and the four snapshots on the pod is excellent. I bought an ampero control that works like a dream and can assign up to six more buttons or 4/2 buttons or expression pedals, the ampero controller is easily setup by you iPhone, this gives the the mx5 the ability to use my drive stacking on the mx5 buttons and all my modulation etc. on the ampero controller. the ampero controller is 100.00 on amazon. in summery you cant go wrong with either the line6 or the headrush in my experience, I play in 2 bands regularly and would recommend both whole heartedly, slight sound preference to headrush. ps.. you can use the ampero on the pod go as well.

    I bought Line 6 Pod Go a week ago for live performance. I don't like the factory presets and the tbh. but for live performance, Pod Go is the best in these units. it has 32 factory banks and each bank has 4 presets total is 128 presets . you can make another 4 presets within each 1 preset they called it Snapshot. you can also make another 32 banks 128 presets for your own. your can load your own IRs too

    • @ThomannsGuitarsBasses
      @ThomannsGuitarsBasses  2 роки тому +2

      It depends on your preferences. If you like your Marshall and want to get the best tones with the amp, get a few "normal" pedals and you're done. If you don't want to use the amp because you don't want to carry it around, or it's just too loud, then use a multi FX pedal instead. These have amp simulations built in which can sound really realistic.
      These have lots of drive, modulation and time based FX built in too, so you could use one of these in front of your Marshall too. Even though that's the last thing I'd do with them, since single pedals will sound more natural when played together with an amp. So, if you want the real tube amp experience, stick to the Marshall (maybe with a few pedals in front) and if having something super compact and versatile is your priority, maybe check out a multi FX like these in the video. Cheers //Kris

    I've owned a Helix LT, Boss GT-1000 Core and now an MX-5 and each one has their pros and cons. We all try to chase that tone, but reality is that most of these modellers are so good, that it doesn't matter which one you choose. I really like the MX-5 for it's simplicity - but it has it's niggles. The GT-1000 Core had great tones, but a really bad desktop editor. Also... it just felt meh and uninspiring to use. The Helix was so imbalanced - one patch would have the correct levels, next super-silent. I'm keeping the MX-5 as it just "works" - needs a desktop editor though.

    Every bleedin amp on the Headrush MX5 sounds cak. The MX5 interface is extremely unintuitive. I had my 1st gig, a wedding, with the MX5 and it sounded atrocious as it has done since I bought it 3 months ago, it was embarrassing. I have never had a worse sound in 20 years of playing live, and that's saying something considering the advancements since then, I used to use the red POD original and it had a fab clean sound and a creamy overdrive with sustain for miles. What really bugs me is I bought the MX5 so as to avoid bringing an amp and halfway through the gig I ended up bypassing the MX5 completely and going with the AMP's sounds : clean, crunch and overdrive,
    perfect, the MX5 became just a very expensive tuner.
    I mean, I don't know or care what a "matchless" with a specific mic sounds like, I just want 3 sounds and to be able to duplicate and add modulation to them for different songs, but I don't want a mess of cables etc. Headrush really need to overhaul the MX5 completely there are too many options that they've completely overlooked the basic sounds most guitarist need. The layout is confusing so if you accidentally press the wrong combination of buttons with your feet, you're like "where the F am I??? " Live ! sounds or direction you have pressed are not clearly defined line6 tones have always been so easy and fast to dial in from scratch compared to the Headrush interface. The MX5 for me is a grave disappointment and money down the drain, I will be getting rid of my MX5 asap.
