Been in multi-effects for +20 years. This is the most brilliant piece of gear ever for semi-pro and pro-light alike players for the 90% of situations. Headrush knocked out of the park with it.
I agree. I just got a 7sed one about a month ago. I just play at home and don't need big expensive tube amps. This is great for people who don't have $$ to spend on stuff or just don't want too lol 🤷🏻
I’ve had one for a year and probably only scratched the surface I haven’t even tried all the amps and effects on it. It’s cool to see this older more budget friendly piece of gear get a video when every guitar channel is reviewing the new quad cortex update.
Got one a few weeks ago. Love it and makes things very easy for me as far as reducing cables and clutter. Only issue was that for an external foot switch you need it to be midi, so that only leaves a few options and they are all more expensive than the standard foot switches. I ended up with the paint audio, and with some tinkering I now have 10 external controls so this is totally worth it.
all my rigs are all just an OD pedal, amp, 2 cabs with different mics, and a reverb lol... i put chorus and delay on one but i always leave them off so i removed them lol 😅
Just sold mine- if you want it to sound really good, much better than it does out of box- go buy some 3rd party IRs. I used York IRs, but I'm sure there are plenty of other good ones. I like it, I really did- but I missed my pedals, I missed watching shows about pedals, I missed shopping for them, buying them, etc. There's something about having everything in one box that feels like having nothing- which is very odd- but true. Also- it just doesn't sound as good as the real thing- the difference is tiny, minuscule- but it's there, and you know it. When I got my Lion 68 and hooked up some real analogue pedals to it- I was like "There it is, there's the feeling I used to get playing through my amp." I can't even put my finger on what it is- may be totally in my head- but so what- in your head is just as real as anything you can touch when it comes to music.
You are right about this. I went down the rabbit hole with HX stuff. Bought a stomp and its amazing but also bought a HX effects to go infront of my two amps. It was fun and i had stereo and all that but something wasnt right. Anyway today i moved the Hx effects out of there (Im now 10x happier just playing the amps for what they are!!, ive really missed that feeling of directness with just a couple of analog pedals) the HX effects is gonna be a processor for my synths from now on and ill still keep the HX stomp because theres about 5 amps on there which sounds absolutely great plus its great for practicing with headphones 🎧 not to mention if i do need an effect in a pinch it will do everything you can ever imagine. I think the problem for me was partly option paralysis and part that tone suck or loss of feel aspect. Great comment though, you are not alone 😊
Love my MX5. I mainly use it as a pedalboard for my acoustic but sounds great with electric through a PA too. I love the simplicity of it. So easy to use and no deep diving through menus and editors. Quick and intuitive = more playing/less tweaking !
This sounds great 👍🏻 I loved that unit . Have the newer core and these things are Soo underrated. Easy to use and can create tones quickly and sounding huge . Good playing dude 😎👊🏻💯
The Core has more footswitches and voice capabilities, obviously. What are the other advantages? I am going to be jumping into a Headrush multi effects unit for the first time.
@@isadorealire5722 the core is a great unit running into a power amp and cab. My experience with Amy type of 🔊 has never been good as with any effect unit. The 7 inch screen is much better btw
@@isadorealire5722 not a knock against Headrush but if you going for the full floorboard experience nothing beats Helix and I mean nothing ...I've had every unit and the ease of use and fun plts amazing sounds are Helix all day long.... It's on sale for 1399 for the full floor and the LT is on sale for $899 I think until October 31.... The Helix Floor is my fave and it's much worth the extra money
The only defect about Headrush 's interface is well demonstrated in this video: you'll have to keep it over a stool or a table to create rigs, instead of the floor. Because it doesn't have a freaking editing app. It sounds like fun, and it really is, but it gets old quickly when you have to sit on the floor to create rigs. For little tweaks, ok, squat or use hands free mode. To create rigs... well, just look the videos, everybody put it on the table.
That's what you'd do with an actual pedalboard though - it would be a defect if you had a paid assistant changing actual pedals and cabling for you if you had an analogue pedalboard 😅
@@olivarionline Well, it's not an actual pedalboard, it's a digital device. If I wanted an actual pedalboard, I'd buy freaking actual pedalboard and a 2 tons actual tube amp with an actual 4x12 cabinet.
@@moroboshidan7960 true - but I removed my amp and pedals and adopted this to at least avoid all the carrying around of heavy stuff - putting it on a stool or table to set it up is no big deal. At least it's a little box with all the fx in it.
Does anyone know how to use a dual Ampero footswitch pedal with the MX5? I saw some videos with the M-Vave Chocolate, but it had an app for programming. However, my footswitch is basic, and I don't know how to configure it with the MX5.

@@Tremenzz It was presumably a joke. HeadRush just put out a firmware update for pretty much their entire lineup (Prime/Core version 3.2, MX5/Gigboard/Pedalboard version 2.7) - if they were planning on putting out a Prime/Core version of the MX5 any time soon, I think they'd have refrained from updating the old lineup. As it is, it very much feels like an update that exists because they're planning to keep the MX5 around for a bit longer, with the Gigboard and Pedalboard being almost a side-effect because they run the same software as the MX5.
I've seen a post from a member in one of the MX5 Groups on Facebook that the 2.7 version is on the way. The post was removed, unfortunately. But there's hope
They literally updated it 2 days ago, alongside the Prime/Core. A new overdrive, a bass wah, and a 10-band EQ. The Prime/Core got the same overdrive and bass wah, but got a sustainer pedal and 3 different synth effects instead of the 10-band EQ. Alongside a round of bugfixes.

Really useful MX5 tutorial - thanks Lee. Really good idea using the eq at the end to get rid of the silly bass boost.
