- In this video, I'm going to show you how to use the HeadRush MX5 Looper. This is a longer than usual video for my channel, but that's because there's so much to cover. It really is one of the best parts of the entire HeadRush family of guitar pedalboards. Plus, this information is applicable to the HeadRush Pedalboard and the Gigboard. Enjoy!

Looks like this is the best buy for me as a first time guitarist. Bass is my main so I don't wanna spend and buy multiple pedals just for a guitar. Looper is definitely a must have.
I'm a professional drummer, and I just started playing the Bass a few months ago. I took a trip to guitar center, with buying the Zoom B6 in mind. I walked out the door with the Headrush MX5. 😂 Man this thing is Aaaaawsome.
Honestly it’s a great choice for even more experienced players. I’ve played over 25 years and it’s the best piece of equipment I’ve owned for my purposes. Whenever I see a new pedal I like, I just think “actually I can probably do that on my headrush” - besides, most effects pedals are overpriced these days, so a good multi effects unit is also a sensible choice.
Good video! One thing that I ran into a lot is that when hitting the “stop” button it would completely remove my loop I recorded. I really think Headrush should fix this. When you hit record, you naturally want to hit the stop button. But, you have to hit the record button again to stop recording the new loop. Hope this helps someone else!

Re. pre/post, 5:15. Use Pre when editing patches, hands free so to speak. Same for sound check, loop and take a walk around the room. Bluetooth app would be nice there but not a dealbreaker for me, probably only need to adjust a few EQ curves against the room.
They're getting quite cheap used now and in a sweet spot with sturdy expression pedal and IR uploader in a compact form factor.

Just noticed your new loop only records when you start to play and you don't need to hit record the moment your starting which is excellent but if you create a loop you like are you able to add it to a new loop like the looper board or can you save and name it and start again?

On the Lea the feature in the looper, how many times can you extend to? You had it on 2x can you go as high as 120x. I’m thinking of using it as a song writer if I get it.
Thanks for the great demo. I see that you can switch rigs while in the looper, but can you edit sound parameters, i.e., can you go back to the pedal edit screen and go back to looper without interrupting the loop? Or can you only switch between pre-saved rigs in looper mode? Thank you.
Yes, you can exit the looper screen and keep it playing. Then you can edit any bank you want.
Well, at least someone shows such interesting things on UA-cam. Thank you. I don’t understand why manufacturers can’t make sure that the looper layer is written to a flash drive in the processor? This is an elementary solution, we get a mini DAW in our pocket. I saw such a function on the Zoom G6 alone, but the resolution is crap, only 16/44.1.

Best thing to do is to either record the SDRUM song into your computer and transfer it as a WAV into the HR.
How did you change tones , while looper is on ? Without exiting Looper screen ?

Thanks. The looper can’t sync with anything. However you can sync the tempo of the SDRUM with any tempo based effects in the Headrush.

Do you know if you can control the looper while you are on the main rig page with an external midi controller?
Lets say you have a rigs with scene you want to control with the 3 fs on the mx5 and on the midi controller, start recording a loop and start/stop it with the midi fs?

Great demo, great looper. Can I record the aux input with the looper or is it limited to the guitar?
I believe it’s just the guitar input. I’ll need to double check
I've tried Googling, watched multiple videos (some specifically about the looper) and even downloaded the manual and nowhere is it mentioned whether the looper is stereo or not.

How would I load in a drum line?
Is there an octaver function that I can play a bass line with my guitar?
You would need to load a drum loop from a loop library to do that. And then record a bass loop on top of it.
Is it possible to adjust the volume of the loop signal? What I record in the looper increases the volume when it is executed.
Loop playback volume? Yes you can adjust
Great video, does anyone know if rhe looper can record from the aux input? It would be great to connect a synth or something (in stereo) using the aux input and record.
I will need to check but I don't think it works that way.
You can do it through the FX loop in. And even adding some effects to the synth depending where you put the FX loop in the signal path

Hmmm.....It's been a while since I last used the Looper. Have you set the preferences correctly for the looper peel function?

Yes you can control quite a bit of the mx5 via midi. I will be showing this soon.
Compared to POD Go, would the MX5 be easier to dial in good tones? I'm new to modeling and tweaking and I'm a bit overwhelmed with the PGo. Even though it's advertised as entry level, there are just SO many options! From what I've learned, the MX5 has better quality tones too. Would the MX5 be easier to dial in than the POD Go, or are they both equally complex? Thanks, Great Videos!

I own an MX5 and I`ve noticed a problem with the looper, it actually takes a small time (less than a second) to start recording, but it's enough that if you stomp it on beat (like you do with any looper to have a good, in time, locked in loop) the MX5 misses the transient, so you end up with either an off-time loop or a loop without transient. have you experienced this? do you know a way to fix it? Thanks!
I think this is being addressed by Headrush in a firmware update.

Yes, WAV files.
how far does Output routing for the MX5 go ? can I route one signal with all amps/effects etc. to the line output and have an unaffected signal to the USB output into my DAW and do both simultaneously ?
Thats a good question. I haven't tried that yet. I'll need to look into it.

No what you’re talking about is multi tracking which this looper doesn’t do
Does the 5 minutes per loop include overdubs, i.e. a 30 second loop and a 30 second overdub= 60 total record time? This aspect of loopers has always confused me when a manufacturer says "X minutes of looping!!".
I know your comment was a month ago, but: For the mx5 you have 20 minutes total recording time over 5 minutes of loop time, so you could overtub 5 minutes 4 times or use up to 50 layers to get a total of 20 minutes recorded. So 1 minute loop with 20 1 minute overdubs or 40 30 second overdubs.
So yeah it is the way you think but it's 20 minute total recording over a 5 minute loop.
Btw, do you know, why in looper mode limit to song is about 5 min only? Then board simple restart song...
Unfortunately, no I don't. If you need more loop time, the Looperboard is great at this.

Maybe this was covered but I have issues with the loop fading up at the start, I'm used to instantly hitting my loops.

Hi. How do you load individual loops or backing tracks during live performance while using your feet?
Connect it to your computer, and copy the loop over to the mx5. You need to be in USB transfer mode
he shows how to load on the top right of the screen. don't think there's a foot switch for the 3 dot stuff

@@ThePedalGuy Hi My VoiceLive 3 Extreme let’s me load backing tracks or loops and save it within a preset that can be easily loaded, started and stopped via foot switch. That could be a nice feature request for the MX-5

(button on the left) Is there a stop/resume all option?
Example: Drums + 5 layers/loops
Now when u hit "stop" does it stop everything (loops & drums) or will it stop loops only?
It will stop everything. Just remember it’s a single loop with multiple layers, not multiple tracks. If you want multi tracks you would want to look at the HR Looperboard or the singular sound Aeros.

I might have asked this before, if so I apologize, but is it possible to access and select loaded loops with the use of an extra footswitch?
A looper with 2 individual tracks would be a cool feature on a amp Modeller

I wish it could auto Start recording As soon as i hit the firt chord/Note.... headrush seems to not have that feature in theor looper
maybe a future update will allow for multiple tracks for a complete song

Good idea, but I wouldn't count on it. That's what the HeadRush Looperboard is for.

No. That was a 3rd party loop that I copied into the mx5 memory
When I start recording, it cuts off the start. Just a little, but confusing. Another looper is accurate. I also have a Boss RC 5. That's right. Can you help me with what I'm doing wrong?

I think the problem is, that the recording starts when releasing the switch. Try hitting the switch as fast as possible.

How do i bypass all effects and just use the looper in my tube amps loop?
You would simply turn off all of the FX and connect it to your FX loop on the amp.

@@che2335 No idea about the true bypass, but yes there will be A/D and D/A as it's a digital looper.
@@ThePedalGuy i decided to get a Fender ABY box n run mx5 into a clean trace elliot model in a Vypyr vip2 for looper rythyms then switch to my Spark for leads and still use my rf wireless dongle into the aby box. Stereo lol at least the vypyr doesnt collect dust now.
What happens if a backing track is over 5 minutes long? Does it take 2 of the 5 spots? Does it not load in (error)?
Not sure I understand the question. You can load up a five minute and then record overdubs on top of it.
@@ThePedalGuy so if a backing track is 7 minutes long will it just give an error? Could you use 2 of the five minute loop slots for a 7 min track? Just curious if the backing track is limited by file size or is it minutes of play. I think I typed it wrong last time there are four slots each 5 minutes for a total of 20 min. Purple rain is a song longer than 5 minutes so am I unable to use that backing track?

How is this showing us how to work the looper from stratch when he loaded an existing looper he made on it from the start

mine doesn't work like this. I can't seem to choose another rig, if I push the two pedals at the same time the loop stops or gets deleted, then the start and stop doesn't have the clear as a secondary function and the overdub doesn't have the Peel as a secondary function either, I get a "More" in the Exit pedal that takes me to another menu... So far, I don't like this looper.
Wish this thing had a computer app.

Can you loop the auxiliary input feed?
Does the auxiliary input run independently with no effects? Or is it included in the signal path that all the effects are being applied to? Also I’m assuming you cannot use the auxiliary input as a selectable output when connecting to DAW using USB direct? I’m assuming you will only see left and right outs?
