- How to diagnose problems related to the Ford Rear Park Aid and Cross Traffic System faults.
First start with confirming the parking sensors are working properly. If they are functioning, next step is to replace the speaker.

Hurray!, thanks for your help, ordered the new speaker for $25 (Ford OEM) and got out there this morning before it got hot replaced mine an that fixed the problem. I went at it at a different angle. I don't have 6X9 rear speakers so I let the seats down and popped the plastic rivets with my tool an lifted up the felt where I could get to it. I put a small flashlight underneath and used my tool to pop the bad park aid speaker up so I could unplug it.I had to push on the clip with a small screwdriver. Then got it out and put the new one in and working great. I think I did pretty good accomplishing this at 74!😁
That's fantastic news. Glad I could assist. Young or old, you never know unless you bear! Thanks for watching and the comments!
Great video, i did replace the speaker and now i don't have that warning message anymore, thank you very much, you are the best
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching and the kind words!
Thanks for the video. This worked perfectly for my 2011 Lincoln MKZ, which had the same speaker setup (under the left rear speaker grill). I bought the new speaker on Amazon for about $20 US. Your tip about checking the sensors in the rear bumper by listening for a very faint crackling sound was exactly right also. Thanks again!
Which Part # Was It For Your 2012 Mkz ? Or Is It The Same One From This Video?
Sad to say I deferred this annoying park aid fault for more than a year because I knew it would be an expensive dealer repair. Finally decided to look online and there was MB with the economical solution. THANKS MB for saving me hundreds of dollars (or continuing to live with the problem). If you have a similar issue with your Fusion, DO THIS FIRST. It will almost certainly take care of it for less than $50 and less than an hour of your time.

Wonderful!!! I’ll be doing it on mine then soon. Thank you!!
Glad I found this. My 2012 Fusion is making a crackling sound from the rear park aid speaker and I'm almost positive that the speaker is bad. I will be attempting to fix it myself, so wish me luck.
Guaranteed that's what it is. Let me know how it goes. Thanks for watching and the comment!
Thanks, this was super easy to do and save me a fortune in time and money!
Glad I could help and save some time/money. Thanks for watching and the comment!
Thanks for the video, this worked well for the fusion 2010 SEL following the video. I only replaced the speaker.
Glad the video helped! Thanks for watching and the comment!
You really went in depth. Good job.
Thank you! Usually I get yelled at to get to the point! I tried to be as concise as possible. Thanks for watching and the comment!
@@MoreBear Good job.
Mine was Doing the same thing... seems to happen after the replace the recalled airbag... my speaker was also making a crappy sound when I used to back up... now it doesn’t and then lights came on.
My 2010 Mercury Milan has the same rear Park aid Problem coming up on my dash.. I tried to do what this video said I do not hear anything coming from the rear sensors so I’m not sure if I should try to replace the sensors or the Park aid speaker? Or do you think it’s something else? What would you suggest I try? Thanks for any advice
If it was my money, and I couldn't hear the sound coming from ANY backup sensor, I would take it to a mechanic for repairs. You could try buying a new speaker for $30-50, but the problem may be the computer or brains of the backup system. Try going out early or late in day when it is more quiet and listen to the sensors again. Its rare that the computer malfunctions. Thanks for watching and the comment!
Same for me, Milan with no clicking sounds. Did you ever find out the problem?
My 2010 says check rear park aid. It popped up on the dash not long after the speaker stopped working. I havent replaced it yet. Right now my 2010 has a parasitic draw thats running down the battery.
This video will assist you in fixing the parking aid error message. Good luck with the other issue. Let me know how things go. Please like and subscribe. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Does this apply for a mercury milan? Or is it a little different?
It will be exactly the same for a Milan of the same model years. The part # may even be the exact same. Thanks for watching and good luck!
Is the clicking sound at the rear sensors a very faint, rapid clicking?
Yes, very faint. So faint that my mic wouldn't pick it up. Honestly for the price of the speaker, I'd replace it if your somewhat sure it's not the backup sensors. Let me know how it goes. Thanks for witching and the question.
You mentioned new wiring. Did new wiring come with the speaker?
I don't remember mentioning new wiring. Sorry if I did. The new speaker just plugs into the existing wiring harness. Thank you for watching and I hope it helped!
Matt Burns this worked perfectly. Thanks so much! (Though I did drop both plastic screws behind the seat, LOL).
Glad the video was of assistance. Don't feel bad. I lost one screw too and only 1 screw is holding the speaker in place. Its not going anywhere even with no fasteners (the deck cover holds everything down). Thanks for watching!
I have a 09 Lincoln MKS with the same issue. rear sensors all seem to work but I have an error on my trip computer that says "check rear park aid" and the speaker has no sound when backing up... do u know where its located so I can try to see if this is the issue?
It will be in the same place as the video. I would start there as the speakers is the next cheapest thing to replace. Thanks for watching and the comment!
I have a 2010. I hope its the speaker and not the sensors.
Will this be a parking aide speaker or just a standard speaker? And thank you for the video I will likely try this
Its a separate speaker, about 2" in diameter. Keep me updated. Thanks for watching and the comments!
Do you know where to find it on a 2012 ford fusion se?
2010 to 2012 will be the same location. Thanks for watching and the comment!
I have the same problem could provide the part # for the 🔈 Speaker thank you!!
The part # is listed in the description. Ford Part # 3F2Z-15K864-BA (2010 Ford Fusion Sport). Thanks for watching and the question!
Is it the same for a 2010 Mercury Milan?
Exactly the same. The part number may be the same too. Thanks for watching and the comment!
What does speakers have to do with that?
If the speaker is blown or malfunctioning, it sets the Cross Traffic system into fault code, and turns it off. Think of it like when your turn signal bulb burns out: it blinks fast to let you know there is something wrong. Thanks for watching and the comment!
I have the same problem and forscan said there were no dtc's I ran a test on the module and it cam back fine . I have the paid version .
For the $30-50, I would try replacing the speaker if you can confirm (by ear) that the sensors are fine. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Can u buy the speaker by itself? I have a 2014 Ford Fusion .not a Lincoln.
is there a way to send a picture
My Ford Escape ( cross traffic ) sensors go "crazy" when parking into my small tight garage , it's very annoying. Now I'm thinking maybe it's better not to have them at all. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You could remove the speaker but then it will throw trouble codes. May be able to add a jumper wire to bypass that. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
It would’ve been so nice if you would have tried the car to see if it worked and let us know. Otherwise that’s an excellent video
Jim Howard I can tell you that this fix worked for my vehicle. Thank you for watching
