    Our story:
We are Dave and Kelsey from the US. We saved up money, credit card points, and airline miles for three years to afford one year of backpacking the world. First stop: Mexico! We're currently in the beach town of Puerto Escondido (Oaxaca). We have plans in 2023 to backpack Guatemala, England, France, Spain, Morocco, then who knows where next?! We travel on a reasonable budget and consider ourselves decent travel hackers. We'll share some of that with you and will be turning on the camera any time we do something interesting! If we learn a lot about a place and have extra to share, we will make a vacation travel guide video as well. We'll recommend places that we enjoyed and tell you what to avoid too. Subscribe to follow along as we travel the world!

Well done! We just spent 5 weeks in PE (December 2022) and I can confirm that this is a helpful intro/ overview.
That said, I must quibble with your restaurant recommendations. Aside from tacos - you did not mention any of the many restaurants serving local cuisine - comida oaxaquena. Honestly, if you are going to Oaxaca State - you are missing out if you do not try food cooked over wood flame in an open air kitchen. I recommend two locals' spots in Centro: Las Juquilenas and La Juquilena (yes, similar names) for tlyudas, sopes and grilled meats. Another local option is Tistal on the highway near the Zicatela Mercado. You can watch mama boiling up maiz over wood flame and hand making tortillas. It is good for breakfast and lunch. My favorite restaurant of all is Non Solo Pizza (in Centro) - hand made pasta and pizza Sardinian style. It looks like a hole in the wall but it is amazing! One more comment about food - the quality of the produce in the Juarez mercado is extraordinary! (soak it in bottled water with microdyne to clean it before cooking). Even boring veg like carrots and radishes are huge and delicious!
Finally - Zipolete is one location where you can stay right on the beach. We stayed at Estrella del Mar - in a room next to the roaring waves with a beautiful sunset. Enjoy!

Grt vid. My wife and I just got back from PE (Feb '23). We stayed in the middle (Zicatela but closer to the La Punta side). We did rent a scooter and found it to be very handy. La Punta was great! went surfing, a fantastic open mic, grt food) overall we really enjoyed PE. We got lucky, our small hotel had grt Internet i.e. over 100Mbps Puerto Ángel (again rented a scooter and ventured to Mazunte, Zipolite, La Ventanilla,San, Agustinillo) > PE and then back to Huatulco.
Overall this is a great part of Mexico. This was our second trip to Huatulco and surely will return!

Wow, that sounds like an awesome trip! Also good to hear about the internet! That's the only reason we'd be hesitant to go back. We're currently in cold Europe and can only dream of the warm beaches :)
