I adore this channel. I love how its not pretentious and Doris is just honest and sincere about everything she does and it shows. One of the other reasons i love this channel is because i work in Luxury retail so its nice to see pieces that have stood the test of time. Another fabulous and informative video. Thank you for answering so many of my questions, Doris. You are just lovely and brilliant - a veritable encyclopedia! Every video you make is a treasure, truly. I know that many of us appreciate very much the investment of time that you put into the making of them. Being an amateur seamstress, you've taught me so much. I know we've all got excellent reasons for loving YOU and what you do ❣️

A few years ago, I had the privilege of going to The Way We Wore. I bought a lovely Vintage bag from Doris. She was so great! Although I sell Vintage at Southern Vintage Co. in Bartlett, TN,
my purse won’t be sold...it’s a special “keeper” that I’ll frame. Thank you, Doris, for being so kind, knowledgeable, & teaching me so much every time I listen to you!

I want to thank you for introducing me to Sonya Delaunay - I had never heard of her until you mentioned the hat on LA Frock Stars. I looked into her work and was so inspired by her theory of color and her approach to art. I love watching your channel because I always learn something new!

Perry ellis in the early 80"s before he died his brand was small and self owned, did a line of mens sweaters handknitted in ny that copied Sonia delaunay"s art, they were stunning.
His line during that time is so unlike the fast fashion crap the new owners put out now

I remember seeing Perry Ellis clothing in magazine editorials, and it was so unique with interesting cuts. He's very underrated as an American designer. It's sad his name is often paired with Marc Jacobs grunge collection, when his clothing made while he was alive were so much more.

I am no fashionista, I live IN jeans and Converse All-Stars, but I live FOR these videos right now. Doris' passion for collecting and preserving these treasures is enviable. The history, the workmanship, the unique design, the beauty of these vintage items has me hooked. My 90-year-old mom was a fashionista in her day - I Magnin, the City of Paris - so maybe I get my deep appreciation of these sumptuous pieces from her. Thank you Doris.

Even though the clothes, accessories, all the things, are beautiful, it is the history behind all the beautiful things, and the designers, that side of it, that is so interesting to me. And I am so happy you found that piece from your uncle. It looked amazing on Vanessa! Thank you for your videos.

Thank you! As a plus size person my mother grew up with no options. She began making her own clothes in the 70s. She taught me about quality material and the "value" of a garment. I totally agree with you about the 80s in regards to shopping. I lived not far from SF and we scoured through the Berkeley flea market and our local thrift stores. I wore beautiful India cotton and Dashikis and cut off Jeans. To this day when I look for clothing in my size I look at quality fabric and not the $$. I have often found ( in my sizes) that quality often doesn't follow $$. I would rather pay 50$ for a well made pair of Jean's than 90$. Or 120 for a top verses 10 for a t shirt.

You look beautiful in this outfit and accessories- they really make you pop. This is such a good post- you are such a good explainer and teacher, and here, you fill in gaps that I’ve been really curious about!
I went to an estate sale this past weekend of a very well-off couple who had just lost the mother/in-law and were selling and downsizing. I bought a w/d (😄) but I thought so much of you! There were two racks of decades-old clothes and accessories, the likes of which I had never seen, some with tags and stuffing still in place. You’ve opened my eyes!

Doris you look wonderful for it. You would never think you could have been in business that long because you look amazing! I seriously think youre aging in reverse girl! I am roughly the same age as you as I was thrifting in the 70s and 80s and yes, you could find wonderful stuff. My mum had an antique shop with my sister and we got stuff from estate sales too. Victorian and Edwardian undergarments beautifully hand sewn with insertion lace, I inherited quite a lot of clothes from the 20s to the 50s from my mother, grandmother and great aunt all of whom were clothes horses like my sister and I. My sister is in the family home still and has much of those items still in storage as she still fits them but we are aware they have to be looked after too. I love vintage and, being of an age where Home Economics and Dressmaking/Needlework was compulsory, even though I hated it being a tomboy, I can still sew, embroider a bit and crochet although knitting defeats me. I cannot get the tension right. I would love to knit some of those gorgeous twin sets from original period patterns, who knows I may master it yet. Meanwhile I am getting into hat making and am reviving all my sewing skills because if I cant wear originals, I can still make stuff from original patterns. Getting another old Singer machine is my next project so I can sew faster. I have no affinity with computerised sewing machines but I know my way around a manual or treadle one. The Closet Historian is one of my favourite channels as she has shown me the importance of getting good bodice and skirt block patterns to base everything on.
