The bag is to die for. Love your videos so much. When I was 17 Norma Kamali or NK as we liked to call her, made a gorgeous ,simple jacket with rolled sleeves and 2 front pockets in leapard print. Everyone had it!!! I wanted to own the real thing sooooo bad. But I didn't make that kind of money. Bullock's finally made a really good knock off. With my employee discount I bought 2. I wore both blazers till it feel apart. Wish I could find another one. A good leopard print is even more neutral than a black jacket.
When I was 15 I went on a goodwill mission. "I will find a leopard print coat today". You cannot _imagine_ the joy and honest shock I felt when I found my coat...Vintage, handmade and with a matching pair of bellbottoms! for SIX DOLLARS! I am 36 and still have the coat. I fancied myself a bit of a seamstress in my teens and unfortunately destroyed the bell bottoms lol No article of clothing makes me feel more confident and glamorous than that coat.
@@pjt3887 I have thought about being buried in it girl! LOL! And that's a shame, what happened to your coat? Maybe you can find another on ebay, or at least a similar one?
In England TV serial call Coronation Street a barmaid bet Lynch she used to wear leopard prints the 70s. That used to be a trademark. In the 60s my sister used to have little leopard print booties they were gorgeous by the way I'm a female the wife
Another well curated episode, dear oh dear you really spoil us with your knowledge. This video brought me back home from another whole day working at home. Thank you! the silky relaxing voice of Doris. Sipping an earl grey tea. getting massaged with all the details, truly The best moment of today.
I think my late grandmother would have enjoyed watching this channel. She was not into couture, per se, but she herself was a talented seamstress with an appreciation for well-made clothing and style, and would have enjoyed Doris' knowledge, I believe. She told me once, in her 90s, that if she were still a young single girl, she would HAVE to have a faux leopard coat, as only the (expensive) real thing had been an option when she was young and single, so for what turned out to be her last Christmas, I gave her the gag gift of a faux fur leopard coat from eBay, which she absolutely loved!
I love leopard I’m so happy it’s making a come back. I mean leopard can be tacky if not worn correctly but i think it’s very sexy when worn in good taste. I love that escada dress omg
Wonderful to see the leopard print. Thanks Doris, it’s a bit light relief in these trying times. Health and happiness to you. ❤️ The Gucci dress shows how classy leopard print can be if designed properly.
I was fascinated by this program or episode too, I adored Gianni Versace's outfit! Did you know, Dear Dory, that when Monsieur Dior presented his first Collection, that is, "The New Look", one of the looks was with the classic leopard print design! Oh the la...
Doris it seems that you have a very kind and lovely nature as your appearance is lovely ...i am happy to see your expression when you were telling about real fur....you love animals
My mother had a 1940s leopard coat . Faux Faboo ! The vest with mirrors was popular in the 60s but in velvet and more soft colors. My sister bought one in P-town and it was beautiful .
Wonderful video , loved the examples of how the print has been used throughout the centuries. The leopard print coat was to die for too 😘. Thank you again for the wonderful historic information x
Quite interesting. Fascinating how different a print can be used and how different it can look. I saw much cheap looking animal print clothes in the 2000s and it was always kind of a no-go for me. This was quite refreshing to see such nice pieces and the origins of the trend.
That's why I think it's fun to have a pair of shoes or a handbag. if I ever find another subdued leopard print jacket I would typically wear that then with black and add an accent color like red. ♥️
I like what you do a lot. The velvet piece from the '70 is not an abstract leopard skin, but a very realistic Ocelot skin, like the Ocelot that Dali used to have
Oh Ms. Raymond you are such an inspiration - you see the historical and artistic value of fashion. I love how you show such an honest appreciation for the designers. Because of your videos (also the ones with the Smithsonian Channel) I got interested in vintage and fashion. I just can't get enough of your content. :-)
J’adore toutes vos vidéos et suis abonné. J’ai eu le bonheur de travailler dans la mode pendant 40 ans et reste admiratif devant toutes ces merveilles. Continuez à nous faire rêver et à partager.
It always amazes me the way leopard print its thought to be “tacky” . I think of leopard print in it is strikingly stunning, but in the right context ,if you know what I mean. It is a print that is timeless, & works well with everything from gowns, accessories , but the way it’s worn is so important. It’s best worn with confidence is what I have messily been trying to say. Thanks Doris, learning so much from the history of clothes , it’s definitely altered the way I look at clothes.
love love love animal prints that scandle bathing suit is such a classic ,we all benefit from the fact you are a gal that cant say no !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I used that Egyptian image of a leopard print dress to make a silk screen. I used it on cream velvet with a black print on large cushions and on black velvet with a gold print also...
I could die of happiness at your store Doris! The way you describe Vintage is exactly the way I feel about it! Bless your soul! I am in awe and in lust of all this fantasy wardrobe
I love the leopard coat with the shoulder pads, this is a wonderful channel, and it's great that you give the history of the fabulous clothes you present.
Hey Ms. Doris I am over the moon for you, and how you made a gallant effort to make Patrick Kelly your show off focus. Remember me the loan fashion illustration teacher at U.C in Cincinnati ? We had a really deeply spirited and civilized back and forth. about black design talent and how absent they are from the mainstream of fashion intellectual scope of importance. Well....thank you and I am mad proud of your actions...and I'd like to think that maybe I had a small part in the change : ) !!!!!
Hi Shane! Thanks for watching!! I believe that Gucci dress is still available. It came from an amazing store in Los Angeles called Maxfields and it has never been worn. The link for that dress is: thewaywewore.com/products/gucci-2017-gold-lame-leopard-dress?_pos=1&_sid=b158a8857&_ss=r Just in case that something you want to buy or put on layaway? It is the perfect holiday dress! Many thanks for your interest and I hope we continue to put out content that you find interesting. Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season. Doris
I was hoping that you would put the bucket hat on and you did yeaheeee. I'm smiling. Thank you for sharing. Didn't the leopard prints become something that was familiarized with woman of the night apparel?
That Todd Oldham piece is amazing! His cheerful designs are super in style nowadays. Have you had many of his pieces in your shop over the years? Thanks for another fantastic video, Doris! Stay safe!
I wish you had included the iconic Stephen Sprouse leopard print designs he created for his collaboration with Louis Vuitton. It was a historic collab bringing together downtown New York art scene cool with LV’s classic French design heritage.
Loved this doris! I thought it would be interesting to dive into the history of hoodies and t-shirts throughout history- how has their place in peoples wardrobes evolved in both cut and quality and also in perception? So ubiquitous now- like the penguin hoodie from the Chanel episode- but I’m sure it wasn’t always like that!
Wow....as a man, I do not wear dresses, but I DO LOVE fashion, and have been lucky enough to enjoy your videos. I love learning about things that are very out of my realm. Having said that.....the Gatenoni dress on the mannequin is up there with some of the most stunning dresses I have ever seen, and would live to one day see it walking down a red carpet . Here's hoping. Be well.
Another great video, Doris. Thank you, this one was very unique. I love your kind of edumacation!! History through fashion is an endless topic, thankfully, cuz I never get enough!
I was researching animal prints last year and one site I visited said they really took off in fashion in 1932 after the release of the Tarzan movie. Barbara Hutton had an amazing coat with matching hat. It was recreated in Poor Little Rich Girl, starring Farrah Fawcett.
I remember during the days of Blondie (the singer not the comic strip) a woman on the bus wearing head to toe leopard coat, hats and boots. Thought she was a punk teenager until she turned around and her tadpole eyebrows gave away her era.
Not a fan of animal print material, but the design, skill and creativity of the garments along with the accessories is quite evident in the silhouettes.

In the 90's Fran Drescher made animal print popular again on her show The Nanny.
In England TV serial call Coronation Street a barmaid bet Lynch she used to wear leopard prints the 70s. That used to be a trademark. In the 60s my sister used to have little leopard print booties they were gorgeous by the way I'm a female the wife
Doris, educational as ever. You looked lovley today.🦁
Sandra Dee in "If a Man Answers" , THAT COAT!!!
My gran loved leopard so much, she had a leopard couch next to the hanging ashtray and the black chaise.
