    "I'm a Board Certified Dermatologist" a.k.a. actually qualified to give advice and information on the given subject, unlike 99% of random creators existing in the "ether", that feel compelled to give out public advice on subjects they have little or no knowledge of. I have always thought people who aren't experts usually in my mind doctors or dieticians ect shouldn't have their own channels acting as experts and having for instance thousands of subscribers. A lot of mistakes can occur and they can't know what doctors do. They should do it maybe in a different form.

      As Erin R. said, go for a reasonably priced azelaic acid product such as the one from La Roche-Posay. Like Erin I'm in Australia too and I use Ego brand Azclear (20%) azelaic acid medicated lotion for redness, inflamation issues, as well as helping other skin concerns. It's over the counter in pharmacies in Australia (acne aisle) and only about AU$13-$15. Otherwise, your GP may be able to prescribe you an azelaic acid lotion that is effective and more economical than overpriced glam-scam products.

    Does anyone use a black umbrella or a UPF umbrella for additional protection from the sun in addition to sunscreen? I think an umbrella offers better protection compared to a hat because a hat only protects part of your face depending on the time of day and the angle of the sun. People in many Asian countries use umbrellas to protect from the sun, especially women, but it's not common in western countries. When I have used an umbrella to protect from the sun, people give me weird looks or tell me that it's not raining. I think we should work on normalizing using umbrellas for sun protection. The more people do it, the more acceptable and normal it will become. It can help save lives too, considering skin cancer is so common.

      Just yesterday someone said in a comment they were “done” with dr Dray and her “fearmongering”. They said she needs to “bathe in fragrance, spend money, get a man” or do something because the commenter felt she was “done” seeing dr Dray be so “damaging”. She said dr Dray doesn’t encourage changing of the seasons and she said dr Dray is making people feel afraid of embracing the sun. I can’t imagine the outcry if dr Dray stepped out with her covered outfits, hat, sunglasses and a UPF umbrella hahahah. I love that idea though, seems more socially acceptable than a face shield (during non pandemic times)

      Eh, Bernadette Peters is notorious for using an umbrella/parasol and has been for years. While she's had surgery, she has maintained her skin texture/color by covering up from head to toe when outdoors and using an umbrella/parasol. Not all folks are crazy about sunscreen. At least one channel I follow isn't a fan. She uses it but prefers to wear wide brimmed hats, large sunglasses and protective clothing and I want to say an umbrella but I can't remember.

    • @secondjulia

      I do! I love my umbrellas, even when they prompt weird looks. Now that I'm in my 30s I find I'm just really not bothered by what other people are thinking and I wish I'd started sooner! At least now I'm doing my part to normalize umbrellas in the sun :) I think they are also far more comfortable than hats in the hot weather.

    • @db-gb5xi
      @db-gb5xi 3 роки тому +1

      There are derms who say you should be using SPF anyway because an umbrella or hat doesn't keep the sun from bouncing/reflecting back from surfaces and up onto your skin. So basically it's probably good to use both.
