@@tiggernix I keep the lid on tight & in a drawer, but it does go orange by the time I’m 3/4 done. L’Oréal claims that the formula is highly stable & still potent & effective even if it darkens, but I haven’t seen evidence to support that. I’d like to get a pump for my next bottle, it would at least help with the exposure to air, I hate the droppers.
Hot and flashy did a ph test on this one with others but L’Oréal came in green with a high PH , it was awful! It’s supposed to be in the yellowish orange range and it was way off. I wouldn’t recommend!
@@cleopatra72 From what I understand, the SA helps the Vit C to penetrate deeper, so while it has a higher pH, it’s effective while being less irritating than a lower pH formula. I have eczema prone/sensitive skin & it’s never caused me any issues, but has worked beautifully.
I've been using The Ordinary Ascorbic Acid with Alpha Arbutin for more than 6 months now and my face incredibly improved!!! Uses the serum at night then sunblock in the morning. 😊 No more small bumps, texture, smooth as!!
Thank you for including Timeless Vitamin C at the end of your video, as I've noticed a HUGE brightening effect since I incorporated this product into my skincare regimen, which includes moisturizer, sunscreen and Tretinoin at night. I'm also a big fan of Korean skincare and since I've been using Korean sunscreens and moisturizers, I've noticed a world of difference! I'm surprised at how affordable they are, too! You two are wonderful and thank you for the informative content!
I'm disappointed that it was left out. I've gone through several bottles and it's amazing. The price point makes it accessible for more people, as well.
I love Maelove! I use glow maker and their moonlight (retinal) serum. I have dermatologist diagnosed roseaca and neither serum irritates my sensitive skin.
@@abiwav Try PREQUEL Vitamnin C. Amazing!!! I used Timeless for so many years. Always irritated my skin. PREQUEL is very affordable. I paid $25.00 for it.
I didn’t like Timeless C - dispenser leaks and they use propanadiol which makes the formula greasy/tacky. Solid formulation of active but packaging is sorely lacking.
I’ve been using the Timeless 20% L-ascorbic acid for almost 2 years religiously, and it’s a holy grail 🎉💗 and I have SENSITIVE + rosacea prone skin ♥️ ALSO did you hear about the class action LAWSUIT against Paula’s choice for lying about their cruelty free status? If that is proven true, I cannot and will not support them going forward. I, myself, only use cruelty-free skincare- but to LIE about it? No thank you! I’ll need a Doctorly “Unhinged” episode on the lawsuit ^ 😅🙏🏻 ❤ AMAZING video as always! LOVE YOU GUYS 💗
I hear you - I was super high on Drunk Elephant products when they first came out (their C-Firma was not a fave) but then she sold to Shiseido which is NOT a cruelty free brand, soooo....hypocrite much?! I kinda lost respect for the brand after that...
The Geek & Gorgeous vitamin c has worked really well for me with no irritation. I try to protect the bottle from sunlight but it still has a tinge of color by the time I’m half through the bottle. I also like it because it doesn’t have the ‘hot dog’ smell. I’d love to find a similar product in an air tight container.
The Geek and Gorgeous 15% Vit C serum is great value for money and, Judit, the brand owner, makes it in small fresh batches so whenever you order it you get a bottle from a fresh 'brew'!!!! It is so reasonably priced and the brand in general have really great products.
Thank you for such a thorough review of Vitamin C types, ingredients, percentages etc…. I personally use Timeless at 20%. They also have it at 10%. It has made a significant improvement in the hyperpigmentation of my forearms due to sun damage. Timeless is one of the less costly of L. ascorbic acid. Nice that it also has férulic acid and vit EI do not have sensitive skin and my face is showing some improvement of hyperpigmentation spots due to acne. It took about two months but definitely worth the time and effort of wearing it daily in the morning only.
Just FYI Beauty of Joseon product called Light On Serum : Centella + Vita C has 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid 10%. Not irritating at all. I love it and try to use it every single morning. It's very affordable at $17 at 1 fl ounce.
Well FINALLY you mention my favorite C+E+ferulic acid product, Timeless! Why pay more? My skin likes it; I can even use it on my eyelids around my sensitive eyes.
Timeless C E Ferulic comes in a airless pump now and that makes a big difference in terms of stability. In fact it takes much longer to turn orange-brown than the Skinceutics product
I tried and tried, but I couldn't get past the horrible smell. Nausea every single time. My current a.m. serum is Cetaphil Healthy Renew with peptides. Really loving it.
@kerrycork58 Interesting because I've never noticed that it has any odor although suppose it does have some. It's not an added scent; probably just what the ingredients smell like. Going to look until your Cetaphil product because want to try some peptides.
Another great Vitamin C product that is taking the market by storm is a European brand, Geek & Gorgeous 15% C E Ferulic. Its made fresh every week so its not sitting about in a warehouse oxidizing! Ive been using it for a few years now and its absolutely fabulous. Made in Hungary and is cheap as chips!
I just watched a video On hyaluronic acid. I use SkinCeuticals which Is extremely expensive. It does not Go down2The epidermis It only goes It only goes to the dermis. No good
Dear, most cosmetic and cosmeceutical products don't go down to the dermis (deep living skin). The products we use in skin care are used to treat the the health of the epidermis (upper layer) hyaluronic acid is used to keep the outer levels hydrated.
Appropriately hyped it is! Thank you for this long informative video and the clarifications and product suggestions. I wish I watched this before I wasted money on all La Roche Posay's vitamin C serums. I got all their serums but the vitamin C really irritates my skin.
Great video! By the time I got to the end, I was shocked to see it was over 40 minutes cause it didn't feel like it at all. And please keep the bloopers coming! 😬
Love that you broke down the iodine test. It's so easy to buy into stuff like that when you don't know how it works and its very disingenuous of companies to market that way.
Same here!! I’ve tried a bunch from other brands and they either felt way too oily, gritty, or just irritated my skin. But the prequel one is legit amazing! I love mixing it with that Jumiso snail peptide essence and it’s awesome 🤩
Loved this long video - watched it on x2 and made notes. I am ordering my vitamin c right now! I ran out a couple of weeks ago and can see the difference in the lack of brightness in my skin
Dr. Shah, to answer your question "Will people be less inclined to use this product if its not 'expensive enough?'" YES. I know it sounds ridiculous, but its true! I am a 25 year old engineering student who more than anyone should be attracted to low cost, and to some degree I am, but $30-75 is the sweet spot to where I feel I am paying an appropriate amount for something of high caliber. Anything more than that, I'd have to do a lot more research on (like Skinbetter, I love them but it took awhile for me to buy anything). Anything less than $25 makes me feel as if there is some sort of catch, either in efficacy, aethetics, packaging, shelf life, etc. Not deal breakers, but definitely less exciting. Excellent point!
Outstanding discussion and review of all things vitamin C. Loved that you both enjoyed geeking out on this important ingredient. I have been using the Timeless 20% for over 5 years and have had zero problems with it.
For anyone on the fence about spending money on Vitamin C products: I recently had an experience that really justified its place in my budget and cosmetics cabinet. Early last month, my skin reacted to something overnight (still not sure what) that materialized as a cluster of hyperpigmented spots on the core of my hand. Saw a derm who told me it was essentially a rash or hives that has now calmed and set as hyperpigmentation, but because the pigmentation is so shallow (unlike sun spots for example), it will naturally fade so “don’t fret over it”. A month later, the pigmentation was still there and it really bothered me, so I began using the vitamin C serum that I use on my face on that part of my hand at night. In 2 weeks, the spots have now faded! I was flabbergasted because topical skincare was just something I bought into feeling it was better than nothing, even though I never noticed any dramatic changes in my skin. Might still be true for other ingredients but I saw vitamin C work for me, so for anyone with pigmentation I think it’s worth looking into! The pigmentation on your face is likely deposited much deeper than what I had on my hand, but keep playing the long game with vitamin C, sunscreen, and whatever else you use and I think you’ll see improvements!
The long awaited vitamin c video!✨ i still use it daily to compliment my spf, but personally find other ingredients better for my post inflammatory hyper pigmentation (like remedy for dark spots ;)
Geek & Gorgeous is the only vitamin C product that hasn't irritated or broken out my extremely clog & acne prone very sensitive skin. I've tried C E Ferulic from SkinCeuticals, Paula's choice, Mad Hippy, and some other very expensive ones. I love the G&G Vit.C and its so inexpensive. They even sell a little container to put part of the product in and then I keep the rest in the fridge. I think I'm even seeing it help my melasma and I'm getting a little bit of that vitamin C glow people talk about. I am so thankful for finally being able to use vitamin C.
Timeless was extremely effective for me at helping to address hyperpigmentation in a short amount of time but the key was when I applied it and how long I let it sit for. The optimal order of operations was: 1. Cleanse (wait 30-60s) 2. Tone (wait 60s) 3. Timeless vitamin C 20% (wait 10 minutes after applying ) 4. Niacinamide 10% (wait 2 mins) When I used Timeless in the last step it seemed to have little to no effect on my skin. Yes I experienced irritation with it but skin peeling and dryness was a worthy tradeoff to dark spots and could be managed by dialing back Retin-A Microgel from 0.1% to 0.4% and lower frequency of Paula's Choice BHA. I hope this helps someone in need!
That expensive brand-I just can’t understand why they’ve not figured out out a better packaging. Mine will fully oxidize before I finish the bottle even with careful storing.
For some people, their skin is sensitive to touch. Personally, after I do anything to my skin, even washing it with water, my skin looks red and my acne looks for inflamed. After a few minutes, it calms down, just how Dr.Maxfields skin came down
I have been using Timeless 10% L-Asornic E and F serum. I have very sensitive skin and avoided vitamin C for years. I have been very pleased with this product. I may try Paul’s choice 15% next.
Meh. “Nature change” is complete subjective. Some people consider wrinkles as natural change, and others consider it skin damage than can be avoided/reversed. I personally embrace the term “anti-aging” because aging in it of itself isn’t natural…at least not in the way society accepts. I’m speaking from my personal experience. The past three years for me has been self-care journey. If I showed you my before and after photos it would blow your mind. I have legitimately reversed my “aging” and look ten years younger. Here’s the secret - skincare is only part of the equation. You also need to stack skincare with good nutrition, weight lifting, and a major focus on mental health. Doing these things together will literally reverse your aging.
This is the reason I love long form video, thank you so much, Dr. Maxfield and Dr. Shah! I love hearing about studies and all the nuance you both share. I've been using the Maelove glow maker vitamin c and like it - no irritation and I do think it has a brightening effect.
I've noticed the biggest difference with vitamin C, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Stopping Retinol didn't change much, but when I stop vitamin C, the effects are quick and noticeable. I have bad sun damage that I thought were freckles, and vitamin C is the only thing that lightens them. If I skip it for two days, they get darker again.
The Numbuzin serum is fantastic. More than just a vitamin C-loaded serum, it has a whole bunch of lovely ingredients like gluthathione, alpha arbutin, etc. It's a one stop shop for brightening, and at the moment it's in a very special category of "this remains even if I had to get rid of everything else".
The Ordinary 's pure L-Ascorbic acid powder mixed with 3-4 drops of Reservatrol with Ferulic acid (also from the ordinary) is my go to product and much more affordable.
Thanks for the comparison on cosmetic vs CV etc studies. As a physician, I often write off cosmetic study results because of those differences. Thanks for the perspective!
Wonderful, love all the information. I don't just want products recommended to me I want the ingredient details, how it works, what works best and what works for my combo sensitive skin. Worth the time to watch this whole video.
I didn’t believe it until I tried it. Now, I’m hooked 🤷🏽♂️ for me, it addressed skin dullness and it gives an inner glow. The one I use is a face mask which I use at night.
@doctorly Love from India 🇮🇳 My mother uses Tretinion and Sunscreen from past 2 years, she looks 10 years younger now because of your Informative videos.
It’s all about micro needling the stuff into your skin if you want to see the best results. I recommend doing it twice a week with vitamin c and niacinamide and then applying a hyaluronic acid serum or mask. Micro needling just in itself boosts collagen production.
I made it all the way through the video. Fortunately, you guys are nice to look at and entertaining 😊 My only comment would be is a lot of us can't afford something that's even $50 on top of everything else. So in the future if you could include more quality products that are less expensive that would be fabulous
YES!!!!! Thank you Doctors for finally doing a video on VITAMIN C!!! I use exponent beauty. I comes in powder form and when your ready to use it you mix it with Hyronic acid that u purchase with the vitamin C powder.

Try PREQUEL Vitamnin C.
Me either. Stratia so far is only one that does not irritate me
Love how thorough this video is! I’m definitely as insane as the good doctors and watched the whole thing 🧡
I’ve been using the Timeless 20% L-ascorbic acid for almost 2 years religiously, and it’s a holy grail 🎉💗 and I have SENSITIVE + rosacea prone skin ♥️
ALSO
did you hear about the class action LAWSUIT against Paula’s choice for lying about their cruelty free status?
If that is proven true, I cannot and will not support them going forward.
I, myself, only use cruelty-free skincare- but to LIE about it?
No thank you!
I’ll need a Doctorly “Unhinged” episode on the lawsuit ^ 😅🙏🏻
❤
AMAZING video as always!
Wow..I'm only using cruelty free ..I honestly don't think all this anti aging works
Try putting in fridge ❤❤❤❤
I do and it lasts for months , I was amazed❤❤❤
Yes, I keep it in the fridge! As new after 5 month still
I picked up the extra bottle from G&G. I decant some into the extra bottle. The rest of the product is kept in the fridge.
I came here to say G&G!! I love it but strangely I DO get the hot dog water smell from it. I wonder if that’s person-dependent.
I’ve heard good things about the Benton Vitamin C, but that it’s a bit heavy so better used at night
Guys, I rode with you on every second of this video. Just wonderful.
Just FYI Beauty of Joseon product called Light On Serum : Centella + Vita C has 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid 10%. Not irritating at all. I love it and try to use it every single morning. It's very affordable at $17 at 1 fl ounce.
Thanks, didn’t realize BOJ made a vitamin C product.
I just started using this, I haven't used it long enough to see effects, but I absolutely love the texture.
Well FINALLY you mention my favorite C+E+ferulic acid product, Timeless! Why pay more? My skin likes it; I can even use it on my eyelids around my sensitive eyes.
Timeless is cheap only for you americans 😂😂
Timeless C E Ferulic comes in a airless pump now and that makes a big difference in terms of stability. In fact it takes much longer to turn orange-brown than the Skinceutics product
Can't buy Timeless Vit C in the UK
I tried and tried, but I couldn't get past the horrible smell. Nausea every single time. My current a.m. serum is Cetaphil Healthy Renew with peptides. Really loving it.
@kerrycork58
Interesting because I've never noticed that it has any odor although suppose it does have some. It's not an added scent; probably just what the ingredients smell like. Going to look until your Cetaphil product because want to try some peptides.
You two are great. I trust you and the information you provide. Thank you from a whole lot of us.
Love my timeless Vit C 20% . I saw my results very fast.
How long does it last
I’ve tried so many brands and types of vitamin C over the last 6 years but nothing has given me results like Tranexamic acid 🤩 I’ll never give it up
I agree but they do completely different things
what brand of tranexamic acid do you use?
Timeless Vit C is as good as Skin Ceuticals for 20.00
I just watched a video On hyaluronic acid.
@@rjrod1326Dear? unnecessary.
@@Miranda3730 was it necessary for you to comment?
Absolut no
Informative. Watchable. Lovable. Thanks fellas! Another appreciated and super video. Outtakes so fun too.
Appropriately hyped it is! Thank you for this long informative video and the clarifications and product suggestions. I wish I watched this before I wasted money on all La Roche Posay's vitamin C serums. I got all their serums but the vitamin C really irritates my skin.
Been using Timeless for years love it!!😊
is 10% better or 20%?
My main concern about SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic is its very cheap bottle dropper packaging and the stability of the product
Vitamin C is a must in my routine. I've used it on my face for years. I am curious, doctors, your opinions on the Maelove products?
Fantastically presented and scientifically funded video! All the Info we need, thanks guys
Great video! By the time I got to the end, I was shocked to see it was over 40 minutes cause it didn't feel like it at all. And please keep the bloopers coming! 😬
The Prequel brand by Dr Sam Ellis has Vitamin C has 15% L Ascorbic acid, ferulic acid & ergothioneine & its only 21$ !! I love it highly recommend!
So pleased you mentioned Medik8 as it's my fave.
Yes, I use it all the time. The vitamin c I use is from Japan. It does make my skin beautiful.
Timeless Vit C is one of my multiple purchase products. Another good Vit C is made by Stratia C+C Serum
Love the trivia, you guys don't need much editing, just keep it going 😂
Vanicream has a nice Vitamin C that’s perfect for sensitive skin.
Love that you broke down the iodine test. It's so easy to buy into stuff like that when you don't know how it works and its very disingenuous of companies to market that way.
Thank you for this info! Literally was sooo confused whether it was good or unnecessary. I absolutely trust you guys, so this has been very helpful❤
I thought for sure you guys were going to mention Prequel’s Vitamin C. It’s by far my favorite
Same here!! I’ve tried a bunch from other brands and they either felt way too oily, gritty, or just irritated my skin. But the prequel one is legit amazing! I love mixing it with that Jumiso snail peptide essence and it’s awesome 🤩
I like the deep dive. Very informative.
Skincare Kings ❤️
Loved this long video - watched it on x2 and made notes. I am ordering my vitamin c right now! I ran out a couple of weeks ago and can see the difference in the lack of brightness in my skin
My God the editing adds another layer of fun to the already exiting content and energy of the docs. ❤❤❤😅
My skin loves Vit C. I'm currently using Prequel's Vit C and love it!! All of Prequel's products are amazing and affordable.
really surprised you didn't mention Maelove vitamin c serum. It has great ingredients similar to the skinceuticals
Best dupe I’ve tried!
Outstanding discussion and review of all things vitamin C. Loved that you both enjoyed geeking out on this important ingredient.
I have been using the Timeless 20% for over 5 years and have had zero problems with it.
I wish they reviewed Timeless
Timeless is excellent and the right ph as well as a great formula. Watch Hot and Flashy on youtube, her videos on Vitamin C are so informative!!
Prequel Lucent C… it’s the one product that made me ditch SC CE+F and now I use the $23 better version
Agree!
I’ll listen to you guys cuz your skin looks amazing. A lot of these skin care gurus on UA-cam trying to sell skin product look like dogshit.
Really appreciate the education on vitamin c. ❤
The long awaited vitamin c video!✨ i still use it daily to compliment my spf, but personally find other ingredients better for my post inflammatory hyper pigmentation (like remedy for dark spots ;)
Kind of surprised the Prequel Vitamin C wasn’t included. It’s so good. 🤔
Agreed!!! ❤ I love it!!!
I am so thankful for finally being able to use vitamin C.
i love G&G retinal 0.1
Awesome video. Stayed through the entire video because incredibly informative and educative video. Not one percent boring🎉
Timeless was extremely effective for me at helping to address hyperpigmentation in a short amount of time but the key was when I applied it and how long I let it sit for. The optimal order of operations was:
1. Cleanse (wait 30-60s)
2. Tone (wait 60s)
3. Timeless vitamin C 20% (wait 10 minutes after applying )
4. Niacinamide 10% (wait 2 mins)
When I used Timeless in the last step it seemed to have little to no effect on my skin.
I love the smell of Vitamin C serum (L-ascorbic). It reminds me Summer. I think it smells like skin after lying in the Sun🌞
The minute Dr. Maxfield put the serum on his face his face turned visibly red.
For some people, their skin is sensitive to touch. Personally, after I do anything to my skin, even washing it with water, my skin looks red and my acne looks for inflamed. After a few minutes, it calms down, just how Dr.Maxfields skin came down
My face turns red even with just water, cold or warm it doesn’t matter
After cleansing in the morning, I use the DermaE vitamin C serum, dry it down then apply sunscreen. Love this vitamin C serum!
I’ve been unconsciously waiting for this
I have been using Timeless 10% L-Asornic E and F serum. I have very sensitive skin and avoided vitamin C for years. I have been very pleased with this product. I may try Paul’s choice 15% next.
P.S. Thank you for using the term "aging" as opposed to "anti-aging." Honest, direct, and accepts reality instead of denigrating natural change.
@@Valreeadid you start Tretnoin?
@@eusaboston Yes, I’ve been using tret for three years. It’s definitely my holy grail in terms of skincare products.
You guys are the best. Real world advice and honest talk. I've learned a lot. Your love for one another is a beautiful thing to see! ❤🏳🌈
OMG!!! I was just about to purchase vitamin C!!! THANK YOU❤
The Numbuzin serum is fantastic. More than just a vitamin C-loaded serum, it has a whole bunch of lovely ingredients like gluthathione, alpha arbutin, etc. It's a one stop shop for brightening, and at the moment it's in a very special category of "this remains even if I had to get rid of everything else".
Maelove all the way, baby!
My favorite C, and I’ve tried ‘em all!
I tried maelove and wanted to love it but my cheeks got red so sticking with Stratia
The Ordinary 's pure L-Ascorbic acid powder mixed with 3-4 drops of Reservatrol with Ferulic acid (also from the ordinary) is my go to product and much more affordable.
Great content! I'm 100% a CE Ferulic fan!
Thanks for the comparison on cosmetic vs CV etc studies. As a physician, I often write off cosmetic study results because of those differences. Thanks for the perspective!
I started using the Numbuzin one after your recommendation and I've recently started using the one from Prequel...love both
Wonderful, love all the information. I don't just want products recommended to me I want the ingredient details, how it works, what works best and what works for my combo sensitive skin. Worth the time to watch this whole video.
What do y'all think will happen after SkinCeuticals Vit C patent expires next year?! Will it help bring more creative formulas?
I didn’t believe it until I tried it. Now, I’m hooked 🤷🏽♂️ for me, it addressed skin dullness and it gives an inner glow. The one I use is a face mask which I use at night.
Awesome deep dive into vitamin C. Thank you!
Love this vid!! Thank you for breaking this down. I am using new Remedy for Dark Spots. Can't wait to see some results. Love the Remedy for dry lips!!
Which pen do you use?
@@jhayrios5514 a stamping pen from a Amazon
i didnt even realize i sat through a 40 minute video by the time it ended lol
I made it all the way through the video. Fortunately, you guys are nice to look at and entertaining 😊
My only comment would be is a lot of us can't afford something that's even $50 on top of everything else. So in the future if you could include more quality products that are less expensive that would be fabulous
Timeless is great.
YES!!!!! Thank you Doctors for finally doing a video on VITAMIN C!!!
I use exponent beauty. I comes in powder form and when your ready to use it you mix it with Hyronic acid that u purchase with the vitamin C powder.
Maelove? What are your thoughts on this? And Timeless? I wish all Vit C came in a pump instead of dropper.
omg i broke out from skinceuticals so much. i thought i was dreaming since it's popular. now i know im not alone.
Thanks for this deep dive, guys! ❤️
I really appreciate y’all ! These are very informative videos…I feel like I’m in a classroom! Thanks for taking time to go into detail for the layman!
