I wish I could use this but body lotion would give me giant cystic pimples. 😮🤦♀️ My mom, on the other hand, uses this on the face. If only my skin was not so sensitive.
I use Jergens too and it works really well for my body. I don't use it on my face because i have eczema and very very sensitive. My body skin is very firm and beautiful at 60 years old.
I love this video! As an Esthetician, we CONSTANTLY get told “medical grade” skin care is better. Clients do come in for the luxury of it, but it’s honestly no different.
I think 10-20 years ago medical grade products used to have some interesting molecules, or in higher concentration. But with brands such as TO and the popularity of Asian skincare a lot of actives are now available in easily available products. Although for deep care, the high concentration peels, and of course the luxury feel I'd go to an esthetician.
I always feel guilty for using a moisturizer after shaving my beard because i don't want to spend my money to buy an aftershave cream lol. I've never even tried to search for a good aftershave product. Turns out, i wasn't wrong this whole time lol.
I'm really happy with the suggestion to use Vanicream lip balm on the eyes. I could not put anything on my eyelids with them feeling irritated and tearing all day. They don't complain at all with the Vanicream and my eyes are moisturized as well. Thank you!
The sunscreen I'm currently using (the neutrogena clear skin spf 50 sunscreen) makes my eyes super sensitive and teary throughout the day too. Im wandering if lipbalm with spf in it doesn't make your eyelids feel sticky?
I honestly don't know how you manage to come up with a different topic everyday. Really appreciate all the work you put into your videos. You are one generous lady!! Thanks, Dr Dray. Enjoyed the video. Happy Monday! I hope you have a tranquil evening. 💙
When I worked at a beauty supply shop I never cared much for Dermalogica and surprisingly neither did aestheticians/dermatologists who would come in. Their biggest gripe with it (Other than the ridiculous cost) was that a lot of their products contain essential oil, plant extracts or fragrances and that it just isn't what it used to be back when it was first founded. Interesting to hear that straight from aesthetician and dermatologists and what a relief that good, reliable skin care is often much easier and cheaper for all of us 💙
1.27 million subs?! That must’ve jumped up fast! Congrats Dr Dray, it’s awesome to know that so many people are listening to a dermatologist, and hopefully using sunscreen daily! 🧴☀️ I was here when you were around 20k. You deserve a big audience and I’m so happy for you! Have a wonderful day ☺️✨

I love you Dr. Dray! You saved my skin and my wallet! You stopped me from spending over a 100$ on overhyped products. I now have a 30$ routine with a gentle cleanser, fragrance-free moisturizer, and mineral sunscreen. I cannot thank you enough!
My mother, father, and grandparents had skin cancer. One had to have her eyelid surgery, her eyeball removed, then, what was left, sewn shut. 😵 I loved hearing your suggestion at 2:52. Also, I appreciated, in another video, your reminder about additional steps for protecting against too much sun exposure: wearing hats, sunglasses, etc. 🥰
I love Cetaphil intensive Healing Lotion for the body with ceramides. I was wondering if it would work for face and so I tried it. It works so well especially right after a shower. It includes all the same goody ingredients as CeraVe and other expensive face creams, like niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and amino acids. Double duty and makes my routine effective and super quick. Saves a little money too. Glad you addressed this issue. Simple is awesome.
I like how you pointed out that you spend more money on sunscreen than other products! I see others often recommending to spend less on the “basics” like cleanser, moisturizer, and spf because there are good inexpensive options, and while that is true, I think those are the products worth spending the most money on and time searching for them because they are the foundation of your skincare routine and are what do most of the heavy lifting when it comes to improving skin. I often also see the recommendation to “splurge” on serums which, again, makes no sense to me as those are the types of products that often have less research behind them. I think it’s more important to find basics that you enjoy using regularly and spending your money there than on pricey (and often gimmicky) serums.
Oof I splurge on my retinol and acids and I use a cheap sunscreen (but it’s also my favorite sunscreen) the A’Pieu sunscreen ❤️ it’s the closest dupe to the discontinued Dear Klairs Airy UV that I’ve used so far
But there are great inexpensive options and they are right to an extent as the key to spf is buying one of which formula you like and the price point is not so high as to prevent you from using it in a liberal amount that is needed and reapplying. However you are also right, if you are willing to splurge on something spf is a great thing to choose.
haha I spend less on silly vanity products that never did it for me (masks, eye creams) buy cheaper simpler cleansers, then shifted that money towards my sunscreen. It's getting really expensive however. I only like/can use certain ones and holy cow, can someone make a really good oil free fragrance free sunscreen that's larger than 4.4 oz already? I'm so frustrated with buying all these tiny bottles so frequently. MDSolarScience just made their large mineral sunscreen even smaller when they introduced their new packaging. UGH!
Dr Dray, I love how you just quiet the noise around skin care. Suggesting a zinc shampoo when you have seborrheic dermatitis on your face - excellent! My son has it all under his beard. Ithink I'll get him to try it.
I have no dandruff or reason to use it; my partner does so it's in the shower. It immediately solved his (years long!) scalp issues and it gives my hair great bounce and body once a week. Who knew!
I tried using body lotion on my face when I had contact dermatitis. Cerave, Eucerin, Vaseline, etc. The rich lotions worked well to clear up irritation, but it caused cystic acne. I only used the lotions on my face for maybe two weeks, but I was dealing with cysts and closed comedones for at least 3 months afterwards. I will never try it again.
Same here. I have rosacea and it helps to calm flare ups, however I also have acne and always break out after using them. I really, really wish I could but I'm just too acne prone
The same thing happens to me when I use CeraVe from the tub on my face only. But when I use the fragrance free Aveeno eczema daily moisturizer or cream I don’t break out. Actually they’re quite nice on the face and would recommend them especially if you’re experiencing dry itchy skin on the face the one on the tub is the way to go ! Daily moisturizer when you need something lighter.
CeraVe has an oil free pm lotion - not sure about their other products. If I have clogged pores on a certain part of my face - I prefer to use glycolic pads at night and let it dry and leave it alone and just use an eye cream. Retinoids may help too at night. During the day - non comegenic/oil free serum and spf. I also like glycolic face washes. A benzoyl peroxide face wash works well for me when my skin gets more oily. I hope you find a good dermatologist for more advice.
I don’t always think simple is better, but overtime I’ve realized that with skincare simple is key. It’s easier to keep up with the routine and if something ever breaks you out you know exactly what it is bc you have such few products
You’ve just saved the skin around my eyes with that lip spf trick, thank you so much. My eyes are so sensitive to sunscreen, but the lip spf worked perfectly :-)

When I had a lot of peeling from tret, I would use a cleansing oil instead of a balm as a first step cleanse. It worked well for dislodging some of the peeling skin without irritating the “new” skin underneath. Great list Dr. Dray. Thanks.
I want to thank you for helping me break out of the consumer mindset and helping me select products that actually help my skin, especially without an office visit. My acne and eczema have never been better.
I'm not gonna lie...that Neosporin one just blew my mind!! I just purchased some not 2 hours ago for a wound on my foot. And I already had a brand new tub of Vaseline at home.
I only use Neosporin cream on a small area that I don't want too much oil or want to get it absorbed in - like if I have broken skin somewhere on my face or a paper cut or something. Save it for something that.
I’ve been using my body lotion (vanicream in the tub) as a facial moisturizer for years now. I have eczema and i figured since it’s so non-irritating and soothing, I could use it on my face too. It’s great and cost effective. I usually put it on while my face is still damp and locks the moisture in!
Ooo I had the worst breakouts trying to get away with using body lotion on my face because it was a heavy moisturizer that my acne prone facial skin couldn't take. Proceed with caution!!
While I don't necessarily disagree on using body lotions in place of facial moisturizers, I recommend people to check what's in their body lotions and do test swatches before applying directly to their faces. This comes from personal experience where I ruined my skin by rubbing it on my face (not immediately, but it got much worse over time and I did not introduce new products to my skincare routine), and it took a few years for my skin to recover. Watch out for irritating ingredients like fragrance and make sure to not only test it on your body first, but also on your neck or to a less sensitive part of your facial skin before using regularly. It never hurts to be patient and careful
As a certified wound care clinician, I don't think petrolatum is the best first line defense in minor skin abrasions/lacerations. The first sequence in wound healing is hemostasis. This is needed to stop the wound from bleeding and allow the wound to proceed through the next 3 phases of healing. If petrolatum is applied before hemostasis is achieved, this can slow down the healing process even in minor skin injuries. After hemostasis is complete, petrolatum can certainly help protect the skin. Additionally, people tend to double dip into their petrolatum containers which can lead to introducing bacteria into even the smallest of cuts.
if Neosporin is not the best option for cuts or wound, for the purpose of antibiotic or wound healing can dr Dray or you suggest the first line defense other than petrolatum or vaseline?
My skin is a lot better since using my basic body lotion on my face instead of facial moisturisers! It’s Nivea Soft and I think my skin is just so relieved by being given a simpler formula
Digression : But I also recommend using a leave on anti-dandruff product. Has saved my life (to be a bit dramatic) while trying not to wash out my hair color faster than necessary. There are fragrance free ones. Relives itch and actually help clean the scalp a bit, unlike dry shampoo.
@@barbieblue3336 It's just why I bought them. But I would recommend them to people who don't too. The only one I use that I know is sort of available outside of the Nordic countries, if you order online, is from a brand called SIM Sensitive. It's a fantastic brand though. I also know that The Inkey list (a brand I personally don't like, but everyone else does) has a salisylic acid scalp serum. Philip Kingsley has one that should be available internationally that's almost fragrance free ?) as far as I can remember. With pircono lactone or however you spell it 😂But just look around the internet and local pharmacy/ drug store! Salisylic acid serums for the face, can also be used on the scalp in my experience.
The lip balm for eyes is a great idea. My eyes always burn from sun screen. The only one that doesn't burn my eyes is Cerave Moisturizing Lotion with sun screen.
Very sensible advice. I rarely buy products marketed for one specific cosmetic use. I've been been using body lotion for years for all skin care. I always choose one that won't be irritating when used near my eyes, and then use that for the rest of my body. Also, I use: - lipstick for blush - organic apple cider vinegar on my very-dripping-wet face as a toner ("brightener") and to restore pH balance. Let it dry naturally. - organic apple cider vinegar as an underarm deodorant (but not immediately after shaving -- ouch!) - baking soda to brush my teeth - diluted hydrogen peroxide as an effective mouthwash and tooth whitener The nice thing about these products is that they have other (non-cosmetic) uses. I use baking soda for cleaning (especially cooking pans, along with salt and white vinegar) and polishing chrome surfaced. And in the kitties' litter box. Hydrogen peroxide is good for cleaning cuts. During COVID (still in process) I've been travelling with a bottle of hydrogen peroxide in the car for disinfecting my gloved hands and various surfaces (but don't put it on metal or chrome, which it will damage over time).
I use a moisturizer from CeraVe on my face, even though it is meant for body + face. I actually upgraded it to a face only product, because my body doesn't need much moisturizing! I use one from Neutrogena for the body
Appreciate your sound advice. I know you don’t advocate spray sunscreen because it doesn’t keep you from having to rub it in… but would still love you to do a video commenting on the J&J recall of 5 aerosol sunscreen products this week.
Hi Dr. Dray. Let me start by saying I watch you all the time, and I'm grateful you started this channel for us. I'm having a major problem with my skincare routine. IT ISN'T DOING MUCH, AND IT'S BEEN 3 MONTHS SINCE I STARTED A DEDICATED SKINCARE ROUTINE. I am 42, and people think I'm in my late 20's, but the problems I DO have are not improving. HELP ME PLEASE!!!
I tell my boyfriend to put moisture on his face all the time after shaving because he gets really bad razor burn. He says it'll make it worse. Well guess what the cerave lotions never let's me down. It worked and he doesn't want to admit it. He thinks skincare is a gimmick. 😑
I know how you feel, my father also thinks it is a gimmick. But, the CeraVe lotion does help a lot with razor burn. For example, my uncle the other day came to me asking if I had hand sanitizer to put on his face because of razor burn. He said it would overpower the burn with more burn. I told him to never do that again and I took out the CeraVe Lotion and told him to apply it. Sure enough, it instantly relieved the burning and irritation. He was amazed and took photos of it to buy it.
As a guy myself I thought it was a gimmick too What got me was looking into the science of it all. At least get him behind sunscreen, I think that one will be rather easy to explain
I started using Benzoyl Peroxide after your recommendation and it changed my life. I'm a clean person and bathe at least twice a day but I could never get rid of my body odor and ickiness in the summer season. But ever since I started using BP, I no longer have odor or sweat issues. Thank you!

Dr. Dray, I so appreciate your videos. I am an RN, and I always defer to dermatologist recommendations, as it can get a little confusing seeing all of the content/suggestions out there. Thank you for all you do!
I'm so sceptical of all dermatologist advice, most dermatologists seem to only know the very basics of their own specialization, nothing more. However over and over again I'm impressed how thorough you are in your preparation on a wide variety of subjects. That you don't pretend to know more than you know. And just no bs. Now I still don't agree with everything you say, just because I'm the worst skincare snob, but I love all your videos regardless. Very informative. Thanks.
I’ve never heard Dr Dray mention Biore UV SPF 50+ aqua rich watery essence. I have never seen it in a store , but you can get it on YesStyle and other sites like that for under 10$. It’s amazing! The texture is so light , it has no smell and it goes on under makeup beautifully. I get mine on eBay 5 bottles for 20$ 😀 Never used another sunscreen like it…no white cast either! Feels almost like a gel moisturizer.
Thank you for addressing the "Medical Grade" Skin Care marketing scam. Many people fall for the hype, I have acne prone and very sensitive skin. On a molecular level , depending on your skin type ...... Body products are heavier than most face products . Someone with dry skin could definitely use a body product on the face. Agreed .
Can you do a video about the best product to use for keeping mosquitoes away especially for children. And what to put on the skin after you already have mosquito bites. I would appreciate this video so much!
This video helped me a lot. I've always been apprehensive about putting moisturizer on my face after shaving. I guess it just seemed like a potentially problematic thing to do, but after watching this video, I've really been slathering it on after shaving, and the benefits have been tremendous. Such an obvious solution totally evaded me for years and years. I could kick myself, but at least my face is looking and feeling better than ever.
I discovered the first tip by accident when I ran out of face moisturiser and started using my la Roche posay body moisturiser instead as it was fragrance and alcohol free, it worked so well on my face 🔥
Please do a video specifically on essential oils. It would be great to hear your take on people who push topical (and even internal) use of essential oils. Looking at you, Young Living and doTerra.
Thank you for all your budget and simplistic recommendations! I have been having bad flare ups of my rosacea and hormonal acne and everything has been stinging and burning but when I followed your anti redness routine my skin has healed up a lot! And the prosacea gel has been the only thing to tone down the redness in my nose and helps my jaw line acne that keeps popping up! Thanks so much dr. Dray! Your the best!
I've ditched all body washes and am using CeraVe foaming face wash for my entire body. It's odorless, soothing, cleans well, and doesn't burn my eyes. Best substitution I've made. There's one for normal-to-oily skin and one for normal-to-dry. I haven't tried the normal-to-dry so I can't say whether or not it stings eyes.
Skincare IS my makeup…. I’ve been able to properly manage my acne,CLEAR IT and provide excellent advice to others. I READ labels, acknowledge percentages and wear sunscreen. This channel? Pure bliss😆 thanks!!!
Dr. Dray I am 50 with practically NO WRINKLES and I'm very happy to see you reccomending RETINOL as that is what keeps my skin BEAUTIFUL and smooth. I disagree with your encouragement of using BODY LOTION on the face. My reason for disagreeing with you is that I feel that it DISCOURAGES the use of SPF 30 or HIGHER to prevent BOTH SKIN CANCER AND WRINKLES. You have a HUGE following and I do think that it is VERY IMPORTANT if not CRUCIAL to stick with a facial moisturizer that protects the skin from the UVA/ UVB and the Blue light damage from phones and electronics. Skin and Colon cancer are the TOP TWO KILLERS in the cancer family right now so PLEASE PLEASE reccomend daily moisturizer WITH SUNSCREEN. Thank you. P.S. My brother has had skin cancer TWICE, two of my friends have had it and a co+ worker. It is WAY more PREVALENT than people realize......😬😬😬😬😬😬😬
Thank you as always for the precious suggestions. I used sun lipsticks around eyes too, because regular sunscreens always make me cry. I've noticed aesthetic doctors and dermatologists have often different opinions on the same topic. That's interesting.
Thank you for educating us on marketing gimmicks vs proven ingredients. On this, can you please consider doing a segment on the effectiveness of newer ingredients surfacing in skin care such as melatonin, vitamin D, PAD (azelaic acid derivative) other vitamin Bs (B6, B9, B12).
Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your videos. Never paid attention to skincare before but have had to learn quickly due to AGE creeping up on me with all it's creepy skin stuff.... BIG THANKS TO YOU - YOU ROCK IT GIRL!!!!
I’ve been suffering from hyperpigmentation with my armpits and I recently switched over to a natural deodorant with essential oils…and that makes so much sense that using those can make it worse….☹️😭
Dr drays rec sounds promising but I’d love to say try the ordinary glycolic toner! Since it’s an AHA it makes a fab deodorant and there is no smell when I use it! Glycolic acid is also brightening so I think it might help with hyperpigmentation! If you aren’t sensitive you can use it on face too and have a multi use product! Or I’ve seen people using this on legs and even as a scalp exfoliant! Obviously patch test before but I just put it in a spray bottle and it’s perfect! (I think imo might be more convenient than a body wash that dr dray recs since you can use it on the go!)
My dermatologist told me that the 2nd largest contributor to contact dermatitis after nickel was neosporin! I am definitely allergic to neosporin. I had contracted Pink Eye about 20 years ago and the doctor had prescribed Neosporin eye drops since I could not take the usual sulfa based eye drops. After using the neosporin eye drops my eyes swelled very badly! My coworker's were calling me YODA! Stay away from Neosporin!!
My tried and true facial moisturizer is the CeraVe moisturizing cream. I love the finish way more than any moisturizer aimed towards the face. It’s a matte finish that doesn’t look drying.
I just want to share my new HG facial sunscreen; very budget-friendly discovery - it's "Uriage Bariesun Fragrance Free Spray milk SPF 50+." 200ml bottle i paid around 13€ (i live in Europe). No alcohol denat. which i can't tolerate and no white cast. It is dewy but not like disgusting greasy. Soothes the skin and didn't clog my pores. 💜 Great vid Dr. Dray!
The benzoyl peroxide is amazing! Nothing has worked for me and I was watching another video where you recommended it. I saw a difference instantly! No more odor. Thanks
I just went through CO2 laser and was told to use Neosporin for a week afterwards. The antibacterial HURT SO BAD. I switched to using just plain Vaseline and it worked just as well and felt so much better.
I have very sensitive eyes and most sunscreens have been a challenge. I also live in Atlanta and a major part of my daily work outs involve being outdoors. Your vanicream lip spf recommendation is the only solution that has worked for me. Thank you, Dr. Dray!!!!
Thanks, Dr. Dray for helping me save money. I feel pressure to buy the pricey stuff, but with your suggestions, I feel a lot more confident about my choices.
More great advice. I changed to a routine of cerave products after watching your videos and my skin has never looked better. Not only that I have a little extra $$$ in my pocket as I am not spending so much money on fancy products that don’t really do anything other than smell pretty.
I could never use my body lotions on my face, as I only like to use heavy and fragranced ones which I could never use on my face, like the Fenty and Body shop body butters. I just can't use non fragranced lotions on my body, I like the ones that smell nice. But for face products, I prefer light products that are fragrance free
I love how the Cedaphil (however you spell it lol) bottle tells you it can be used on the face AND body, and now I use it after my serums and under my SPF
@@patchworkghost3229 why would you want to change something that works for you? Even if others don't like it, so far as it works for you and doesn't contain harmful ingredients, you should use it
I'd love to see anyone in the skincare world talk about some products that would help with facial shaving.. as a woman who had hormone issues as a teen and was told to shave to deal with it, now until I have the cash to laser or anything I kinda gotta resort to shaving every single mornin'. It'll still be prickly, just like a man's, by the evenin' but that once mornin' shave of the mustache and beard area is already enough to make that area sensitive and red with little bumps that are really difficult to hide under makeup. It's embarrassing enough, but the lack of talk about women havin' to shave and how it affects their skincare routine has always kinda irked me cause, it's a pretty common issue women have to deal with.
I will use my face moisturizer and lotion for my body. My face has never felt the way it feels with body lotion. Supple and nice. Everyone thinks I’m still in my early 20s…I’m in my early 30s.
I think that I'm in the minority, but I can't fall asleep if I don't use quite heavy moisturiser on my face. For body I need to have something light, but with the face I'm like 'give me all the moisture' :D
I am 44 years and I would never ditch my vitamin c serum. I suffer from hyperpigmentation, sunspots ect . I have tried every vitamin c serum out there and wasn’t until I tried the OBAGI vitamin c serum that I saw results. I use the 20% and Apply only in morning. I follow up with a peptide cream and my sunscreen as usual. It’s faded my hyperpigmentation and and even reduced fine lines. Wish it wasn’t so expensive, but a little goes a long way. I keep it in its box in a dark cupboard, but I will say I have got 10 months out of one bottle.
The Benzoyl peroxide wash for the armpits does work. Just a side note for those who don't know, make sure to rinse it off thoroughly. I did not one day and started sweating. It bleached the armpit areas of my shirt.

A great way of sharing and giving back her skills and talents.

That is horrifying. Definitely paying more attention around my eye area now
I love Cetaphil intensive Healing Lotion for the body with ceramides.

Which zinc shampoo has he had success with?
@@sweetreat30 I'm not sure about my son. I use any shampoo that has 2% zinc. The other ingredients help itching etc.
Head and Shoulders now have a line of shampoo and conditioner that's formulated for color treated hair. Yay!!

Same here, I used Cerave body lotion on my face for a good couple weeks and my skin got so congested. I did nothing else different.
Same here. I have rosacea and it helps to calm flare ups, however I also have acne and always break out after using them. I really, really wish I could but I'm just too acne prone
Omg thanks for telling me , I’m not even Gonna try it
The same thing happens to me when I use CeraVe from the tub on my face only.
Rosemary oil for the hair loss. And i use baking soda mixed with coconut oil as deodorant. Works BRILLIANT

Neutrogena does NOT recommend to use their body lotion on our face
I used bath and body works lotion on my face when I was younger and got a chemical burn ...
You're a smart, kind human being
Mineral sunscreen does not burn my incredibly thin, sensitive skin. I also mix it with coconut oil and use it as a moisturizer.
lotion after shaving has really helped my ingrowns!
Any lotion, even cerave burns my legs after shaving
:)
Good to know, thanks!,im all for simplifying!
That's also my favorite moisturizer, easily absorbed and well nourishing, tho I hope they can change Nivea Soft to fragrance free.
Yass same !
My 93 yo MIL uses Nivea lotion all over, including her face. Her skin is so soft!
Also, I use:
- lipstick for blush
- organic apple cider vinegar on my very-dripping-wet face as a toner ("brightener") and to restore pH balance. Let it dry naturally.
- organic apple cider vinegar as an underarm deodorant (but not immediately after shaving -- ouch!)
- baking soda to brush my teeth
- diluted hydrogen peroxide as an effective mouthwash and tooth whitener
The nice thing about these products is that they have other (non-cosmetic) uses.

Thank you. P.S.

Same! Glad I'm not the only one lol.
I am the same way.
Literally #1 you already won me over. I use fragrance free colloidal oatmeal or capryl glycol based body lotions.
