Petty Protest: Kyle Petty's Dale Earnhardt Protest Car
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 лип 2024
- Kyle Petty's team wanted to make a point. If Dale Earnhardt was getting away with worse on-track behavior, why wouldn't you paint your car exactly like his? No pun intended, this is some wonderful pettiness.

This is 10/10 level stuff. We need more like this nowadays.
Protest/Joke/Meme liveries would be funny addition every now and then.
Imagine Martin Truex Jr and Joey Logano ran into each other again and MTJ ran a bass pro shop car in Shell colours
@@RunningOn7CylindersYT That would be hilarious

Hey dad, I want to paint my car to spite another driver
No son we have too many contractual obligations and we have another different sponsor this week. Go back to mommy’s teet
If you have that then it can't be called a sport . It called WWF.
How we didn't cover this when Kyle was on the Dale Jr. download I'll never know.
Mr Music because it's not something that matters now.
both families lost someone they cared about
Jr his father .. Kyle his son
usual that changes how people see the world... now you know...
@@jrgt628 just think they ran out of time, jr said he wanted him back because he didnt get to ask him a bunch of stuff.
They would have just joked about it anyways, you're looking way too deep into that lol
@@iillestrs2153 guess you missed the picture also...Life changes
go back and read a little on the subject..Kyle said the repainting wasn't his idea it was Felix's..
Maybe you should ask your mother to let you go outside more often
sunlight has amazing effects on how you see life.. wait until after the virus so your safe..
Do you ever hear Jr bashing his stepmother in public? or even when he interviews other drivers?
I'm sure it said but that will never make it to print..thing about why?
@@jrgt628 you're a dumb fuck
@@jrgt628 btw, only reason jr hasn't shredded Teresa is because of his respect for his pops. Hes said driving by dei pisses him off and he hasn't been there in forever. He takes small shots or just avoids the Teresa topic, mainly because it will become a big story. Kelley has taken plenty shots at teresa.
You're acting like there would still be animosity over the situation if kyle and jr talked about it and that's why they wont rehash it. They would find it funny now, seems pretty obvious you haven't actually listened to that podcast much if you believe what you're saying
Kyle Petty was right. Earnhardt got away with things others got fined or suspended for. It doesn't take away Dale's greatness but it does make NASCAR look bad.
Nascar is bad they always make some horrible calls.
not to mention, at least to me, it looked more like Musgrave came down. sure it was an aggressive pass but in the words of Dale Earnhardt himself, i’m sure Kyle was thinking “i didn’t mean to wreck him”
@@donnlowe9129 nascar always played favorites with Dale and Jeff Gordon
James Gentry Dont forget Jr. Jr got away with a couple of times, I believe one Talladega race he passed below the yellow line (and he won) and Nascar didnt said a thing...
this is one of many reasons why Earnhardt is not as good as petty
They better have a diecast of that car. That’s incredible😂
They do. I have a 1:64 of it.
toomuchcountry I need it!!!
Get a scale model and build one
They have both
I have 1:64
I have the 1/24 diecast. Since it's a beer car it has a plastic case. Kyle Petty signed it at a local grocery store.
The best I ever saw Kyle Petty run was Dover 1995. He spent all day running the bottom of the track where no one else could run and it was his last ever win.
Don't forget to speak of the massive wreck that took out half the field.
@@JoshuaFarmer-bv7ip
All the top drivers were still running. It took out the back of the pack
“That’s incredible”
I thought this was one of the coolest things in NASCAR history! Felix had the balls to prove a point to NASCAR that we fans had known for years...Earnhardt would run over his own mother to win a race and got away with it way too often!!! Thanks Felix!👍
How many people did Earnhardt nearly kill to win a race?
@@robertdula3469 no one was trying to kill anyone, That's just racing, Dale made the sport great and he got it in the End.
But Nascar has never been the same.
I was responding to the guy saying Kyle Petty almost killed Davey Allison...Earnhardt didn’t try to kill anyone but he wrecked a lot of people to win races over the years and Felix Sabates made NASCAR take notice by painting the car!
Dale was a great racer but he was very smart at playing politics.he was very friendly to bill jr and had a in with him.and on several occasions when he would ruff someone up he had someone talk to the opponents car owner or crew chief and tell them to let it go because he was running for the championship and they would have the driver not retaliate.rick mast was one and there was another james finchs car i think.both told the same type story on the dale jr download podcast.
Try not to be such a crybaby hater, please.
it's only one of them racin' deals if you're an earnhardt.
Just rattling someone cage. He never meant to do it 🙄
Yep, broken English and all. He truly was an intelligent man who fully grasped his own language.
No it’s only that when your the winner. Kyle Petty didn’t feel that way when he bout killed Davey Allison at the All Star race.
Kyle Petty should have kept the paint scheme for the rest of the season.
There is, was and always will be a double standard in all sports for certain people.
Bill Jr. & Dale Sr. talked all the time about continually hanging out on each other's boats on days after races. How you gonna fight that?
I always wanted to know the story of Kyle Petty's Protest Car. Thank you.
I worked for 4 NASCAR teams in the 80’s and 90’s. It was common knowledge of the favoritism Iron head received. From inspections to on course shenanigans. It fell on deaf ears.
Damn, Earnhardt sure knocked a lot of people out of the way. It's amazing to see how certain drivers are given free license to do anything by fans. Anyone else would be considered a dirty driver.
DISCO-INFERNO-70 - But Earnhardt WAS considered a dirty driver by EVERY OTHER driver's fanbase!
;-p
Yeah?... That BULLSHIT HAS TO STOP!!
Dale made nascar money and that’s all they cared about.
He was a dirty driver I remember watching being around 3-5 years old getting pissed off because of his unsportsmanlike conduct. He would deliberately crash anyone just to win even no matter how hard he sent them into the wall and ironically he met his demise to the very wall he sent many to. Should have been wearing his damn hans device. It's a shame he was a hell of a driver though but he did pass while he still had his glory so it is what it is. Rubbing racing.
That's ok,his rollcage got the last laugh
Nascar always leaning toward Earnhardt Sr cost Mark Martian two Championships.
Martians don't belong in nascar
@@sheeznutz2254 Nor smartass bitches on UA-cam, Stupid have you ever heard spell check screwing your correct spelling up.
@SlayerPayback Well to rehash what I have already written, Mark would have had two Championships if it wasn't for Bill France jr, penalizing him for no reason, and changing the rules to benefit Earnhardt Sr. I'm not a fan of Mark Martin nor do I really care about modern Nascar. But race are facts.
@@lskiller1903 it was a joke ass-wipe! A little testy are we? For fucks sake get a grip dickhead
@@lskiller1903 You mean having an illegal carb spacer plate that was already written in the rules
When Jerry Nadeau 36 spun Dale Jarrett 88 at Bristol, Jarrett was the points leader. I always thought that was why they penalized Nadeau because it affected the championship. And fellow Pontiac Driver Bobby Labonte would have been the beneficiary.
But even DJ himself admitted that he was in the way.
Labonte had a terrible night that night too thus washing out anything Jarrett lost.
The only time I went to Bristol (09 I think) to see a race was awesome, but I saw the Earnhardt bias first hand. A caution came out just before he Dale Jr would have lost the “lucky dog” spot. Nothing happened on the track before or during the caution to justify it other than Dale getting his lap back. I could see the entire track no one even pretended to go pick up debris.
Petty protest... HA I see what you did there...
A Petty protest, also a very petty protest, yes!
I wonder why Jason Leffler hadn't done the same thing painting up his paint scheme like Todd Bodine, Brian Vickers, or Steve Wallace after NASCAR pulled the same stunt on him after 2009 Speedweeks now...
i'll bet nascar has rules against doing just that
Thank you! Never knew this story. Can't wait to talk to my dad about it!
I guess Kyle never got a break here and there because of his last name.
I was unaware of this at the time. Even as a huge Dale Earnhardt fan, I found this move by the Petty team hilarious. I'm glad this showed up as a recommendation today.
Honestly, I never even knew about this whole problem. Thanks for sharing this
This reminds me of Bobby Hamilton 's last win. It was a hot day, and when Hamilton exited his car he sat down and leaned against the car door to do the interview. He looked like an old man gone through the wringer. His son was a good driver, but quit, because he was getting crashed too much.
Always been a Kyle Petty fan, totally forgot this happened lol. I wonder if any die-cast with that paint job exist...?
That’s so great. Hahaha!!! Perfect example of how there should always be an equal playing field not based on who’s who.
I always wondered about my Kyle Petty Black and Silver Coors Light 1/64 Diecast replica and now I understand the story of it! Thank you 🏁
I was kind of a young fan still, but I did not remember this at all. I think it is an awesome way to protest too!
It'd be awesome to see that paint job on one of the throwback Darlington races!
Man this one really came out well - great job, NM!
Was an avid fan for years. Now I don’t even check race results. I just follow dirt track now.
@Ross Outdoors and nobody worries about how pretty they are, or how great they are in front of a camera.
NASCAR was never fair or equal, and it never will be. That would ruin the show. Great video, thank you.
The Mafia isn’t fair and NASCAR is no different.
Great content, happy I found this channel!
That's some next level savagery
A good video would be the Earnhardt Bodine rivalry it was included in a movie another one would be the Earnhardt Rusty rivalry
Ahh it's all over the net.
Yes a new nascarman video
Woo!
I was at that Dover Race and Kyle Petty was always my favorite driver. Classic stuff right there!
Todo es justo en amor y carreras: All is fair in love and races
Mikey is da best
Felix sabates is a savage!
I am a die hard Earnhardt fan but I did wonder how he got away with so much? Kyle's team had a good point! Ahh the good old days when drivers were real men...
Great video. Wasn't aware of this incident.
It's really funny because I was named after Kyle Petty, and my dad's favorite driver was Earnhardt.
@Jeff Kopis I was born the year Kyle was a title contender.
Great story! I was likely at that Dover race, but I didn't remember the reason why until recent years, why Petty's car was changed for that race.
I had almost forgotten about this.
Wow I missed this back in 96 I was n basic training...thanks great vid u gained a sub...I havent missed a race since that season...go to martinsville and Richmond watch rest on tv...p.s. I'm 43 been sim racing since 2002 thought it would happen sooner but saw the iracing revolution coming
Hahaha! I Love Feliz Sabatas. One great human being. Un gran Cubano!😀👍👍👍👍💋
I remember after the 2001 Daytona 500 qualifying Dale Earnhardt whined about the new dodges being too fast and NASCAR made dodge add a length to the wicker bill. NASCAR would do anything he complained about especially between 1994-2001. It pisses me off NASCAR didn’t mandate the HANS device when Kenny Irwin and Adam Petty died but when Dale Earnhardt died they changed everything.
Sad but true
They didn't even mandate it after Earnhardt. I think it was Blaise Alexander's death that forced them to.
@@TheJingles007 I think Alexander died before Dale. I have always heard that there have been no deaths in NASCAR since Dale was killed in the 2001 Daytona 500. Soft walls, safer cars, HANS device mandates have all been put in place since. Should have been done ten years sooner, alot of our heroes would still be here.
Blaise Alexander died in an ARCA race in October of 2001. It is true that no one has died in a NASCAR sanctioned race since Dale. After Alexander's death, NASCAR mandated a HANS device and safer barriers at all its tracks.
@@conniesanders5928 Thanks for the clarification. RIP to all of the drivers who passed away doing what they loved.
Can someone help me remember which race it was they let Dale make up a lap under caution? Way before the "lucky dog" stuff. I remember watching and my friend was flipping out screaming. Those days of nascar were simply the best.
Rockingham 1995, though somewhat in NASCAR’s defense, they though Earnhardt’s crew missed a lug nut in a pit stop. What had happened was a lug did fall off during the stop, but the tire changer was able to put on another lug and get it on. The problem was the initial lug was painted bright orange, and the spare lug was not painted such, so an official initially thought they forgot a lug. When he was brought in and it was discovered that there was a lug on the car, they threw a caution and gave him his lap back.
Though if that happened to Lake Speed or Hut Stricklin, I agree that I doubt the same courtesy would be given to them.
*YES!!!!!...* I've been saying stuff like this concerning Dale Earnhardt Sr. for *_YEARS!!!!!..._*
News to newer race fans: Dale Earnhardt Sr. is *NOT* the hero the media of today tries to make him out to be... He was very much *the* villain of his era. He is the _original_ Mega-Baddie!
The race he killed himself, his ego wrote a check his skill could not cash. He almost wiped out Sterling Marlin multiple times trying to preserve a 123 finish for his team. He reaped what he sowed that day.
@SlayerPayback Uh, I hope you weren't talking to me, because I did no such thing...
Earnhardt’s endearment by the media and fans really didn’t come until after Richard Petty retired, and Jeff Gordon coming on the seen taking Earnhardt’s place as the most hated driver at the time.
@@daebi37 He did not get what he deserved, stfu
Haha my brother works for Nascar, I've been around racing my whole life, know damn near everything there is to know about Earnhardt and I had no idea this happened. That is edgy before being edgy was a thing. Lol
that die cast started my collection
I had no idea, this was before I started watching NASCAR. Thank you!
That’s awesome.Never knew this happened.I Love it
Wonder how expensive that diecast is
Was thinking the same thing. Was one even made ? Anybody know ? Have one ?

I hate to say it, but Kyle and his team were 100% right. NASCAR let Dale get away with virtually anything. It was ridiculous.
Just like the Fia did with hamilton before 2020
It's funny that NASCAR's response was to stop penalizing drivers for wrecking others when all Sabates asked for was for the rulebook to be enforced fairly. NASCAR basically said, "If we have to penalize Earnhardt for every time he wrecks somebody, we'd just rather not penalize anyone." I really wonder what kind of dirt Earnhardt had on the France family.
Funny how great Nascar was back then. Drivers had so much more personality.
It’s pretty much gone. Water downed and dumbed down. Everyone too afraid to lose sponsors. Kyle Busch may be the last one standing firm to himself.
I miss the days when Rusty didn’t finish well or was spun out and his interview was always entertaining as was Dale Jr.’s. No script.
Nothing worse than seeing a driver thank 14 sponsors and say nothing else.
Kyle Petty was always anti-establishment. He still is. From the long hair to his attitude. And this from a HUGE Earnhardt fan. Love Kyle.
You can love Dale all you want ..... he was a legend ..... just have the honesty to admit a lot of the way he raced was considered dirty if and when other drivers did similar things. Still remember the look on his face the night he got booed out of Bristol for dumping Labonte.
Nascars uneven treatment of teams is the biggest reason I don’t follow it any longer. I used to watch every race available flag to flag if I could. I don’t think I watched a single lap this year.
Todo es Justo en Amor y Carreras
I've gotta start using that in Gran Trurismo
I was at Bristol when Earnhardt spun Terry Labonte....so many boos.....I was shocked really. I was up in the sky walk to Bruton's office area...Ernhardt was flanked by a pile of goons.....I just nodded as he passed....he had that look like "one for books, but I'm not sticking around" kinda look. IDK, rubbin' is racing....if don't like the other guy's paint on your ride, try drag racing.
This is hilarious and I love it.
I know right
I remember a few folks were really mad about the Terry LaBonte spin out.
Never

Greg in 1993
That's my story ....I'm sticking to it
@Randy HUTCHINSON Silver is great color isnt it lol
Hope you're doing okay and have a great weekend!
Mess with Bull," You get the Horn..
This was also true of little boy Jeff Gordon, they would throw a caution in a heartbeat if he was in trouble as well as Earnhardt and a select couple others
jeff scott He won his first race ever. Plus look at all he does for kids at victory junction. Plus he has long hair and rides a Harley, and he lives in a 8 million dollar house, with 24k gold faucets and races nascar earning $25,000 a week... Now lets ask how you are doing in life???
Jimmy Johnson got MANY favorable mystery caution flags to help him get laps back.
@@jeffwoods9666 he won a ARCA race at Daytona in a car that should have been running CUP. His equipment was state of the arc for the time, and he was running against five or six years older cars
Tony Antrobus That’s how you win equipment. I raced Legends cars for 5 years gave it up over equipment. You got people spending money on new tires every 2 races to win $300.00. I ran my engine for 2 years most put a $6,000 engine in each year and I seen parents spend 6k on a engine every 4 races cause they think they’re kid will be the next Jeff Gordon lol . I’m sure Petty had good stuff I even heard Richard say he should not of won that race car was way better then any body else. One night I showed up to race my legends car and Ken Shraider showed up with a street stock. At practice he sucked. I watched him tell 3 guys what what to do. At first he was lost probably wrong gear springs set up but he knew how to change car. He won the heat and feature with one hand on the wheel. Lol then people shut up lol 😂
I distinctly remember being at Darlington when Gordon won the Winston Million. He was a half a lap off the pace when a caution was called for rain. Not a drop of rain was falling anywhere on the track. Who came out of the pits in the lead and running away? #24. I was probably 11 or 12 and remember that day being the day my dad and I said, “I don’t think we’ll be going to anymore NASCAR races.”
I remember this deal . I was watching both weekend
Mark Martin should of painted his car black when he got screwed out his points the year he had a great chance on winning the points championship.
3:53 it was different tho, while Neadeau was penalized by spinning a car that tried to stay on the lead lap, while Terry was leading as Dale is on the lead lap.
How did I not know about this? Thats amazing, and a total Kyle Petty move.
Does this affect Dale's GOAT status?
No
That's awesome! I did not know this!!!
Kyle was against painting the car black, that was the owners idea
Yes new video
If a team pulled something like this today they'd probably get sued by their sponsor for "breach of contract" because they put their logos on a paint scheme that wasn't approved by the corporate overlords who like to take all the fun out of racing these days.
That's a badass looking car too...
We all know there were two sets of rules regarding Dale!
Petty Protest: Richard Petty’s supposed first win
I just need to make one minor correction to this, in the 1995 Bristol night race Dale Earnhardt was penalized and put to the end of the longest line after he hit and spun out Rusty Wallace early in the race.
I loved this! I was young but barely remember it lol
Great trolling by the Petty team.
OH, I HAD TO CLICK ON THIS! Now it makes sense! I knew it!!! I kept telling my dad (big 3 fan) at the time, Kyle or Felix had did that on purpose.
super interesting man, thanks for the video
I don't miss that SOB in the 3 car, always was a dirty driver
I remember this. Especially because I was both Dale & Kyle fan. And I had to cherish every moment Kyle ran good because he sure struggle a lot in his career.
Great video !! Thanks
NASCAR. Where attempted murder will make you a legend.
A bit dramatic, don't you think?
@@joeleyendecker5346 Perhaps. There's lots of safety equipment on those cars that will keep a person reasonably safe when someone basically PIT maneuvers them at 180 mph.
Great story. What a slick move by Sabates.
15 teams should've showed up at the track in identical black cars
I didn't even realize until years later that this was designed to protest Earnhardt haha. I just thought Felix went nuts and wanted the car painted black.
Wonderfully done!
Great great videos again man.
Kyle and Felix were right. That black #3could wreck anyone and it was a racin deal, but anyone else, it was rough driving
Well his dad could cheat with engines and tires and still win his 200th race.
@@zacharyradford5552 that was 198 that had the big engine
I laughed so hard on 3:14 lol
I like it.
Best move KP ever made.
The surprising thing is that nascar ever penalized Earnhardt. Someone should do a history and figure out approximately how many people he put into the wall in his career...
Did you mean to say they never penalized Dale? Lol dude named off several penalties here. I'm not gonna research none of that but I'm sure they did. It would just fuel his bad boy persona to the fans.
I think he’s saying that it’s a surprise that they ever did penalize him, because the times they didn’t far outnumber the times they did.
Plenty. They even gave Earnhardt a similar penalty back in 1988 at the 600 for wrecking Geoff Bodine,

Thats why it's called NASCRAP!!
Interesting video thanks for the good content
It's all about which car owner writes NASCAR the biggest check that week. Constant changes in the rules to benefit whomever is the "golden" driver and / or car owner at that particular time. That's why I don't watch it anymore and why race attendance is off so terribly.
Hehehhe nice one for Felix Sabates
Ahhhhhhhh Jeremy Mayfield's win at Pocono, I will never forget :) Oh yeah Jeremy was number 1 that day Dale.
Too bad he did.
Dale Earnhardt: 7 x Winston Cup Champion, 76 career victories (including a Daytona 500 win), and inducted in the inaugural class of the Nascar Hall of Fame.
Jeremy Mayfield: 5 career victories.... **cricket chirps** ugh....oh...
It's sad to see how all that sponsorship went away so quickly. Cars back then had a logo everyone on the cars, today only see maybe 10 sponsors on a car?
