come on slap, how ya gonna start off the list with a legend? you can say the Super Bird and Daytona are controversial for sure but to call them one of the "ugliest cars in NASCAR" is just as controversial. i'm on the other side of that fence, ever since i laid eyes on the super bird it's been one of my favorite cars, and if it was so bad why did they revive an entire brand to do a run of superbirds in 2016?

However the 2001 on up gen 4 cars were almost all the same shape too just slightly different fronts so do not forget that, they just allowed more innovation inside the car.

When Plymouth tried to get Petty out of his Torino and back into his traditional Plymouth, they asked what he wanted and he pointed to the Daytona and said "That." Thus the birth of the Superbird which then had to be built for the street in order to be eligible for racing. The street 'Birds all had vinyl roofs to cover up the welds from modifying the rear window but that was cheaper than finishing the sheet metal.

I have to respectfully disagree about the Daytona/Superbird. It's definitely not the prettiest car from that era, but there were loads of innovations in that car, it looks fast sitting still, and it's one of the most iconic American cars ever made. My only gripe with it is that it seemed to be 40 ft long... the thing goes on forever
I never did like the style of those Tauruses. God, those bubble lights are gross smh the next design for them looked WAY better. Those ugly little Fords were fast, though
The 89-94 Pontiac is one that had to grow on me, but now it's one of my favorite car designs in stock car racing. That 95 variant is an abomination. Yeesh.
But the COT definitely deserves this #1 spot. As great as it was for the sport in terms of safety, it's just... God-awful. It looks like it belongs on that "NASCAR Racers" cartoon from the 2000s. Or in someone's Hot Wheels collection. Then there was that stupid spoiler that was flipping cars over if they got a little sideways. What a stupid race car.

I guess me and Larry Rathgeb have completely different tastes. When I first saw a '70 Daytona, I instantly thought "That's a racecar." It simply LOOKS fast. I think it was one of the best looking cars ever made. Also, one does not simply "fix" a '68 Charger. Perfection can not be fixed. It can be made more aerodynamic, sure, but it can not be fixed since to be able to be fixed, something needs to be broken and the '68 Charger is about as far from broken as you can get. Totally agree on the 1998 Taurus. Take a street car that looks like it was designed by a blind monkey and turn it into a race car (a four door abomination of a race car) and it doesn't get any better.
The Delta 88 and Le Sabre looked like ass, but what do you expect from a racecar based on the cars that you saw driving with their blinker on all the way to the bingo parker, where grandma kind of got it into a parking space. Dealers had signs that said "You must be this old to buy this car" on the showroom. If you weren't at least 70, they wouldn't sell you one.
The Celebrity looked the same going forward and backwards.

Apart from the Daytona and Superbird, I agree with your list. I feel a better car to take the place of the #10 slot could have been any other design from the 60s to the 80s. Looking at it as a young fan, the Superbird looks sleek and bad fast to me. It looks like the type of car to turn heads for all the right reasons

NASCAR kinda race stock stock cars now. IMSA belongs to NASCAR now and they race GT3 cars as one of classes. GT3 cars are quite close to stock. There are also TCR races along GT World Challange America (also a GT3 series) made by Stéphane Ratel Organisation in USA. TCRs are also quite stock cars.

@@nickrustyson8124 this is still valid. Both Camry and Mustang only have DOHC engines now, even 5+ litre V8 in Mustang have camshaft in head, not in block. Only GM is still using OHV in road cars because they have more important things than engines, like eg. new logo. And probably because of GM being GM we still have OHV in NASCAR.

My dad has a 79 Malibu (looks just like the ‘80) he dumped a 350 with nitrous into it, I took it to my senior prom and set off 5 car alarms. He literally bought it to keep the 350 after he built a 389 Pontiac for his 68 firebird, he got it for $200 in 1994. I adore that car

I was never a fan of the later model Nascar cars that were not real cars that you could buy at a dealer. Started with the Taurus and up to the Toyota Camry.......Me at Toyota dealer, "Um, i'll have the two door, rear wheel drive V8 Camry with the 4 speed please...".... Dealer, "get outta here son, ya bother me!" This was the point I started not caring about Nascar.

As a British person these cars all look the same to me in each era apart from the first Plymouth. Especially compared to European Touring and Rally cars.
I can't see any real difference in each era to say one is ugly and another isn't. They all just look like Nascars to me.

Great list, I had no idea that most of these models raced in NASCAR. But I do just want to make a few comments on the COT. I agree it was ugly as sin, however I did follow this cars development for a couple of years. I agree the wing looked weird but what they were saying at the time was it would eliminate the dirty air that was becoming a bigger issue in the previous years (funny thing is it got worse after this cars development).
