  • How to make a Pillowy Soft Cheese Roll.
    Here's what you'll need:
    3/4 cup evaporated milk (190ml)'
    1 egg
    1/4 cup sugar (50g)
    1/2 cup mashed potato (100g)
    2 tsps instant yeast (6g)
    3 cups bread flour (375g)
    1 tsp salt (4g)
    1/4 cup unsalted butter (55g)
    16 pieces cheddar cheese sticks (4 inches long)
    Softened butter for brushing
    Sugar for dredging

    Love this bread! Btw made your chocolate Bundt cake and hubs brought it to a party. Everyone loved it and came for seconds lol. They said it was really moist and not overly sweet. Thanks, Weng!

    These were really delicious. I used a little more salt (2%), but made as written otherwise, and I loved them.

    Whoa! The addition of mashed potatoes threw me for a loop, lol. These would be tasty using pepper jack cheese without the sugar on them though. Now if I can only find that kind of cheese in stick form. Don't know what happened but I haven't seen it available for yrs now 😕 Anyhoo, thanks for the recipe. Gonna be making your parsley, garlic and cream cheese filled buns soon. Those are my families favorites. Instead of making 1 batch I make 2. One of my sisters comes to pick them up then hands them off to the rest of the family. It's a lot of work but I enjoy making them for my family...

    I baked this bread today! I replaced the evaporated milk with powdered milk and honey instead of sugar. The dough was very sticky I don't know why 😕 in which it was a bit hard for me to work with the cheese. However, in order to deal with the stickenes of the dough I used drops of oil to the work surface and tried to roll it quickly. The final result was amazing the bread literally was like a cotton very soft and delicious 🥰 👏🏻 it was not my first time trying your recipes. Thank you so much 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💯🤍

      You replaced the liquid lost when you switched to milk powder? If you did then it’s got to be the lactose concentration present in dry milk along with the materials added to it. Chemical reaction nothing more besides using honey instead. I bake with honey and I know how differently it wirks in place of sugar. Though tastier but highly recommended to beat it with butter before adding it to dough. I also use ghee in my recipes instead of butter. Different in taste, yes but yummier and crispier. Just bear in mind to minimize baking time when using ghee and honey in a recipe for the two bake fast. 👋🏻

      @@hana.the.writer5074 @Hana.the.writer Hello Hana 😊 .. I meant I made thick milk using powdered milk. I did not put the powder only I made a cup of 190 ml like in the recipe as a substitute of evaporated milk which I don't like and don't recommend it. Exactly most probably the chemical reaction from using honey. Animal Ghee 🤔?! I know it's the best option but how is it in pastries? I know it adds a strong taste and smell isn't it?

    Looks promising and will try this tomorrow. I’ll use purple YAM with some drops of UBE Flavor (or yellow, whatever is available) instead of potato using the same measurements. Thank you for the recipe-I’ll just tweak it to experiment with different flavor. 😊
    And more grated cheese instead of sugar for toppings! Can’t wait to make this!

    Pls include the oven temperature and number of minutes to bake in the lower part of the recipe and thank you for sharing, looks yummy.

      180 for 20 - 25 minutes. Try positioning your rack on a lower position si the top of rolls don’t burn but of course you may bake them in the middle loosely covering tops with parchment paper or foil in the last 5 - 10 minutes. I always cover any baking goods plus roasts!

    You're using instant yeast, there's no reason to let it sit. It doesn't need to rise that's why it's called instant yeast!! Love the recipe 👍

      It should be fine. The thing about bread flour is that it’s got higher gluten level than regular flour which is basically protein. If a recipe calls for an egg then it’s ok to use all purpose flour. Results will be better shape and give just the right chew to bread goods. If you don’t have bread flour and egg is absent in the recipe then take out 1 1/2 teaspoons from regular flour and add in 1 1/2 teaspoons of vital wheat gluten sold separately in markets. If you don’t have it then you will have to go with regular but be reminded it will result in less chew. Enjoy baking 👋🏻

      I’m actually thinking of using purple YAM and add some drops of UBE flavor instead of potato in the same measurement. Maybe that will also work. I will find out when I make it tomorrow .😊

      Dough will carry less fat and less milk solids but yeah, it should bake fine and will not lose tenderness. The secret lies in the potatoes added! 😉

      Sure but will result in having less chew to rolls. Adjustable though by adding 1 1/2 teaspoons of vital wheat gluten in place of 1 1/2 teaspoons flour. If you haven’t got that then adding protein will do the trick. Beat an egg and take a couple of tablespoons and add it to batter mixing well. Should be fine since protein is what bread flour is prized for.

      Yes, you boil and mash it finely so you don’t get big chunks of potato in your dough. I’m going to try using YAM instead of potato though and see how it turns out.😊
