  • This is a short part analysis of looking at just how the Federation came to be in 2161 while exploring the varying elements shown in canon with some memory beta content.
    Part Four covers the first few months of the Romulan-Earth War. The Vulcan Intelligence services' (V'Shar) questionable decisions to bury information on the origin of the Romulans as those who marched beneath the raptor's wings.
    There was also a wapr 7 race brewing between Starfleet and the Star Empire and Section 31 had recruited Trip Tucker as spy.

      In fact it was internal company battle. Former owner of company splited and new management came to part owning most ST, new management didnt knew anything about ST so they stopped production to "save money". Increase end year profit and get bigger paycheck. Only it didnt worked out in the end and now they are about to being fired after years as company is nearing its bankruptcy.

    @MoonjumperReviews 3 роки тому +12

    I love your reaction to finding out that Trip’s death was faked...six years before he was dead. I read all of the relauch novels- and that plotline made absolutely no sense. It was completely convoluted. Section 31 lied about his death date to hide his death from...the people he works with...who know he’s still alive...because he works with them. What?? Oh wait, I got that wrong. They lied about his death date in the history books so that future generations think he was actually alive when was still supposed to be alive anyway because...what?? There was no need for any of that. The first several novels were set years before Trip was supposedly killed, so it was a non-issue. They didn’t need to resurrect him--BEFORE he was dead. Then when the novels caught up with his “death,” THEN they could have said they faked his death for whatever reason.

    • @limiv5272
      @limiv5272 3 роки тому +1

      Changing the official year of his "death" really was strange. Everyone who knew Trip would remember him dying in '55 and many of them would live into the 23rd century. By then, Trip's death would've been in the history books and if the date was wrong someone would've noticed and said something. I don't see when there'd be a chance to change something like that without anyone noticing. Obviously the writers did that so Trip could be a spy during the Romulan war, which already had a fixed time in canon, so I totally forgive them for that.

    • @MoonjumperReviews
      @MoonjumperReviews 3 роки тому +4

      @@limiv5272 - Well, I remember at the time thinking, "Why are they sending Trip?" (I know, the original reason was for him to steal the warp 7 engine from the Romulans, which makes sense for an engineer--but that was just a made up reason.) If you need to send a spy, then it's kind of a no-brainer to send someone who is actually TRAINED as spy. The Enterprise crew has two obvious candidates: Reed, who had been in Section 31, and T'Pol, who as a young woman served as a V'Shar agent. And since they needed someone going into the Romulan Star Empire, the obvious no-brainer would be someone who could actually pass as Romulan--and that would be T'Pol.
      But let's say they do want to pursue the warp 7 plotline and provide an excuse for Trip to fake his death down the road--then let me fix this for them...
      There was no need to "kill" Trip BEFORE he was "dead." Militaries and spy agencies send operatives out on "special assignment" all the time. They don't claim that they're dead, they just don't tell anyone--including their families--where they are going. Starfleet decides, "Okay we need to find out what's happening behind that Copper Curtain, and it would be nice to get an evaluation of their technology, maybe get our hands on some of it. Let's send Trip Tucker. He's the most experienced engineer in Starfleet--and he's actually already worked with Romulan technology. But, wait a minute, we can't just send him in there alone--he's not trained as a spy. Someone, who is already trained, needs to be there to watch his back. Well, the obvious candidate is his girlfriend, T'pol. She's highly skilled and can already pass as a Romulan--and she'll do anything to protect him and the intelligence we want him to bring out of there." They send them both in for a SINGLE mission, doesn't need to be this years long ordeal. Although, if the writer wants up the ante, they could end up getting caught--for months--behind enemy lines. They can't contact Starfleet; there's no rescue ship coming; they're marooned. But they still have their cover, so, with her cunning and his technical skills, they take it upon themselves to start sabotaging the Romulan war machine, so that a technologically inferior Earth can actually defeat a technologically superior foe.
      Meanwhile, Trip and T'pol have each other to interact with on a personal level, their romance can continue to blossom, or whatever. Neither are out there alone. They manage to make it out, get back to the Enterprise, mission accomplished. Section 31 takes notice of this, "Hmmm...this southern catfish fella is actually pretty impressive--and now he has real experience in the field. We could use him." They make him an offer he can't refuse, fake his death on the ACTUAL date, given us in "These are the Voyages," and the story continues on from there. Fixed it.

    • @limiv5272
      @limiv5272 3 роки тому

      @@MoonjumperReviews In the books section 31 didn't know what Romulans looked like before Trip came back, and they DID pair him with an actual spy. The spy just inconveniently died very early on. Anyway I agree they could've done a better job explaining why Trip needed to fake his death

    • @MoonjumperReviews
      @MoonjumperReviews 3 роки тому +1

      @Limi V - Unless my memory is faulty, which is possible, my recollection is that 31 did know before they recruited Trip. They surgically altered Trip before they ever sent him (he didn’t return and go back). They did send him in with a pilot to smuggle him in and out. Like you said, that guy was killed early on, and then Trip remained in the Empire posing as a Romulan for the remainder of the war. That’s my recollection, but it’s been awhile.

    Doesn’t it seem to be a bit of a plot hole in ST canon that advanced humans, and by inference, advanced in DNA technology would not know that Romulans and Vulcans came from the same stock of humanoids? By this point, it would be surprising that humans had no Romulan and Vulcan DNA samples whatsoever to compare.

    Enterprise sort of screwed things up by ending the way it did. Because we don't get the Earth Romulan War, it would imply it happened after the Federation was founded. The problem with this is twofold, first calling it the "Earth Romulan War" doesn’t fit as it would have been the Federation and not just Earth. Second the treaty of Algeron, which supposedly ended the war, established the neutral zone, and restricted THE FEDERATION from developing cloaking devices for their ships. If it had only been Earth in the war, then all the other member races who didnt take part and under no obligation to the Romulans, would have been free to develop and use cloaking devices.

    Can you tell us what was going on with the andoraians, or tellarites at this time (I know I murdered the spelling?) They are core members of the federation and we get very little in story. I would think Andorians would be very good at fighting romulans, because of the pseudo Cold War with the Vulcans.

    Wait, the last episode of Enterprise takes place 10 years into the future when the Federation was formed and the Earth-Romulan War was over. Therefore Tripp can die and not conflict with the novel.

    Oh jeez, the novels. I wish you luck going through those because they are just *headscratching* at times when it comes to writing decisions.
    Like the obsession around that period of putting Section 31 in literally everything. Minor event mentioned in the show, bam now it's a Section 31 operation. Something unpopular like killing a character? Bam, now they work for Section 31. That thing everyone loves? Now Section 31 is behind it.
    It's like the writers took the horribly unreliable narrator that is Sloan at his word and ran with it, shoving it everywhere because they thought it was cool and edgy.
    I mean at least when Discovery decided to include Section 31 it was very much a different incarnation that actually answered to the chain of command and was legitimately a branch of Starfleet Intelligence instead of the 100% extralegal entity we see in DS9 with events in the intervening century causing it to be excised like a tumor that unfortunately threatened to come back.

    Human ships being overbuilt and retro, with this saving them from the Romy weapon, makes the look of the STO Connie make much more sense. Why slap slick touch screens on everything when that just makes you more vulnerable and a button or switch is more reliable and easy to swap out?
    If only they had led with this instead of... the nothing that was the first season of Enterprise. Grim Dark Trek makes much more sense in the 22nd century where humanity has freshly clawed their way out of the aftermath of global nuclear war.
