      Not one of my favourites, but I loved seeing how many of the later standard features were gradually added, such as the phasers and torpedoes. Not having a tractor beam and having to rely on grappling hooks for the shuttles always annoyed me, as well as the lack of food replicators, but the fact they were always the underdog added suspense to the series.

      @@M1tjakaramazov I tend to agree. I do like the overall look but the mass to line of thrust makes me cringe, if you look at the sub-light drive line of thrust and the mass placement it is extremely top heavy, the engines will pitch it up without constant counter thrust from the maneuvering thrusters, stupid, if the nasals had been just under the saucer more like the Akira class it would be better thrust balanced. guess they wanted it to look cool not go straight

      @@dunsel5887 I think it's just the result of two design philosphies colliding - the Jetsons approach of the 60s when they thoght future materials would be so tensile that normal laws of stress and physics would no longer apply, and the early 2000s attempt to move away from the 90s sleek pastel and brushed-steel look towards more realistic and gritty designs. The result was a logical and aesthetic mish-mash.

      @@dunsel5887 don't all of the main startrek ships have rather silly center of mass to center of thrust lines?
      At least most of the "classic human startrek ships" are oddly lopsided, this is one of the more sensible hero ships from the series as far as I can tell.

    With apologies to the creator of this animation, there are a few mistakes on the configuration of the NX-class bridge: both the Science and Tactical station each had a secondary console facing the Captain's chair where the handrails are depicted. In addition, there was only one Helm console in front of the Captain's chair, manned by Travis Mayweather.

      My favourite of all the ships and series for two Reasons, one is that it looked and performed like an expected “next step” invention. Starfleet was established but still scientific and logistical. The fact they needed to board MACOs to defend is a likely story in the development of space travel likely to happen to humans. The second was it was futuristic but only in increments. It still had the expected military submarine attitude to it whilst been ahead of the class. No civilian , no families just people working and developing, excellent work on developing this

    Your bridge is off. Unlike other Star Trek ships, there was only the Helm in front of the Captain's chair. Mayweather sat there and no one sat beside him. Also, both science station and tactical had consoles on two sides. The seats were on tracks that slid over to operate the console facing the center of the bridge. Your ready room is off. Why would the captain have his back facing the door in the ready room? It's reversed. Sorry, I'm a nerd - I notice these things.

      - The Center area, only lies the Helm station, tho the seat is still in front of the screen, it stretch abit left for more console control since he's also in charge of navigation.
      - Left side near the captain chair is the Science station, which surrounded with consoles from railing to the wall,
      - Left side near the viewscreen is the Communications station which only face at the wall
      - Right side near the captain chair is the tactical officer station, like the communication station, it surrounded with consoles.
      - Like the communications station, there also a station for engineering on the opposite side, it rarely show but it's there.
      (The relationship between Helm, Nav and tactical is very odd, i guess that Helm and Nav work together on ship control, shield and weapon system depend on their specialties, while Tac work as a third hand for weapon and shield control but their original designation is still interior security.)

There was 1 helm position, tactical and science had railing stations as well. You marked was should be the tactical station as the engineering station. The situation area was not closed off with support beams but rather an open area with railing separations only. Archer's Ready Room did not have a second door nor is the layout exact. Engineering and the warp core should be twice the size detailed here. Again, I don't say any of this to insult your work. Just being a nerd who loves this ship and your channel.

      I always preferred the TOS scale over the TNG scale.
      1. It was simply the cube of the factor (warp 1 was (1x1x1)=1c, warp 5 was (5x5x5)=125c, etc.), rather than the factor raised to the power of 3.333... Much easier to figure out.
      2. The numbers just kept going (so you could figure out what warp 14.1 was, if you wanted), rather than the scale completely changing above warp 9 because they wanted to cram every speed between that and infinite speed between 9 and 10. I'm convinced the "warp 13" we hear in the future of TNG's finale is there because they realized how dumb it was having ships travel at warp 9.9999 or warp 9.9999999.

      I love seeing the development of the NX-01 but sometimes it is a bit weird storywise. It feels like a lot of technological development that we've seen in the Star Trek universe across several hundred years is created in that single family of ships called the Enterprise. I like how NX-01 encountered photon torpedoes and holodeck technology in alien ships and never exploited it but when one of the crew discovered/created something that will become a universal standard in the coming generations, that feels strange. That's the problem with prequel stories trying to make callbacks or references to series set in the future.

      I have always wondered the same thing. It is probably the result of 20th century thinking. Ocean surface ships appear to be the basis for space ships, where the bridge is typically located well above the water line. Seeing as how the view screen on the bridge is not an actual 'window', the bridge could be located more centrally in the hull. If they were using navy ships as the primary design philosophy, they should have gone with submarines instead of surface ship design. Also regarding the bridge: The viewscreen is always far too small. If the viewscreen is basically a large monitor, then why not increase its width and height to show more of the surrounding space? Being able to display navigational and tactical information over a wider field of view would be of great benefit to a starship.

    I'll always have a soft spot for the NX-01. Other Star Trek hero ships would all be sleek and spacious and sci-fi looking. But something about how cramped and almost threadbare the NX-01 felt that made it feel like an actual star ship. This was a ship made with function in mind first and comfort second because humanity was still very, very new to the stars. It gave it a very unique feel and actually made the era it lived in feel unique compared to OST and TNG

    I find it very unlikely that the NX-01 had VIP visitors or dignitary quarters onboard, and that those spaces would be utilized for something more utilitarian. This can be backed up by the episode "Fallen Hero" and Ambassador V'Lar's stay onboard Enterprise, where Hoshi was required to vacate her stateroom, striping it bare to provide a more spartan atmosphere. If VIP staterooms were available V'Lar would have assigned to one of those, made spartan or not.

    You do fantastic model work and I am enjoying every one of these. Next to the Refit and/or A, the NX-01 is my next favorite design. I just remember first seeing it and feeling as though it could be real, and in operations today (not just...20 years ago!!!). This is one thing that Discovery bothered me about its less realistic practical feel. I also do not think anyone understands ship exterior or interior size anymore and could use your help.

      Thanks. I used to create architectural rendering, meaning it has to be scaled correctly if you wanted management and the client to be happy with the result, so I can understand the sentiment.

    Absolutely brilliant. Great work on this one. Best one yet, and i could only find one tiny error. Which is outstanding cos I make it a point to spot them. You mentioned the pylons and nacelle catwalk were only accessible with EV suits. Not so. As long as the warp engines were powered down the catwalk was accessible without specialist protective equipment, and the pylons were always accessible.

    This was so amazing! To see such a detailed 3D breakdown of a ship really informs on what it would be like to actually visit these structures if they were real. This even corrected me on just how big the NX Class is. Like I thought it was tiny, but having it be shown beside an aeroplane really showed me this thing is way bigger than what we were made to think on screen. Much like modern navy vessels, they really did use every inch of space they could, clearly. Such a great video! 😃👍

    Keep in mind folks, that not only is the NX-01 a small early federation ship… but the USS Franklin is even SMALLER and more cramped, and people had to live on that ship too. So if you think the NX-01 is a bit of a crowded ship, just remember that the ships that came before were TINY by comparison.

    Great video. I love your work. I was just wondering if you've ever noticed discrepancies in the officially stated & visible sizes of Star Trek ships? I try to calculate according to the number decks + what I can see. The NX-01 officially has 7 decks and is 108ft tall, but a Constitution class has 23 decks (3.25 times the NX) but is only 246ft tall? (2.25 times as tall as NX) Voyager officially has 15 decks *VS* NCC-1701-A's 23 decks, but Voyager is 134 feet taller?? 🤨The Excelsior class has only 17 decks but is 82 feet taller than a Constitution class with 23 decks?? (and Excelsior is officially & visibly much larger than a Constitution class) I've never understood the size discrepancies.

    • @Halfscreen
      @Halfscreen  2 роки тому

      There are always a discrepancies on the official size of the ships when you take the time to do some real calculation. For example, there isn't any official size for the JJ Enterprise 1701, the USS Voyager lack true official height measurement from my understanding.

    • @mammutMK2
      @mammutMK2 2 роки тому +1

      I would guess from the calculation the NY is correct, since the warp cells go over the ship und cause a massive increase of hight.
      With the A it could be that the deck hight is lower, especially in the neck section, when voy has a higher deck hight it could explain some.
      I'm not sure with the ex, but it could suffer from a higher deck hit as well and the higher warp cells.
      But yes, the size sometimes make no sense.
      Still in comparison you can check out some skyscrapers and compare the hight to floor ratio (and that antenna to be even higher, that's cheating), some are higher but have less floors

    • @chimaican01
      @chimaican01 2 роки тому +1

      @@mammutMK2 I wouldn't be surprised if some decks are lower in height then others, especially the engineering decks.

    • @mammutMK2
      @mammutMK2 2 роки тому +1

      @@chimaican01 you could see it in voy deck 15, the deck hight was lower. Since the 1701 D has the shuttle bays over 2 decks you can see that the deck hight from the neck is lower as well.
      The issue is you only get measurement over all and that makes it hard to guess the habitable length and hight

    • @chimaican01
      @chimaican01 2 роки тому

      @@mammutMK2 yes, I remember that episode, just can't recall its name. It was the one that told the story of the 4 lower deck crewmen. I imagine all the engineering decks would have lower headroom, as well as decks that are primarily crew quarters or research labs.

    Why do you need a deflector at FTL? You warp space to get around the FTL problem in the first place. Objects hitting the ship at FTL would be at infinite energy ie would do more than dent the hull like in voyager.
