  • Do you reckon you know how far 10k is? Well enough to guess when you’ve run it? Well that’s what Jess, Sarah, James and Tom are trying to do in this challenge. They have to turn alerts off on their watch and cover it up, and then stop running when they think they’ve hit 10k. Closest person to 10k, WINS!
    ↓↓ How close will they get to 10k? How well do you think you could do this challenge? Let us know! ↓↓

  • @feka2983
    @feka2983 2 місяці тому +207

    • @Tiemewitte
      @Tiemewitte 2 місяці тому +52

      If it's the emergency feature from Garmin, that takes over the entire screen if it's active. You press a button to dismiss it and then it goes back to the activity. So she could have seen her screen right after pressing the button, but she also could have pressed the button while looking away from the watch. Depends on if you believe her or not on that one.

    I have a challenge for you.
    You all run the same 10k on a trail (with elevation changes).
    The only info you get is when your watch indicates the end. So no time, pace distance etc.
    The winner is the one that is in zone 2 for the most percentage of the run. This should be done alone so no pacing of other participants. Run only by feel.

    I totally feel for James running the marathon in lockdown. I ran a half marathon in my quarantine hotel room in Sydney (14 days solitary confinement). It was 8m from door to window so I ran backwards and forwards 2600-2700 times. I did get a little dizzy. It took me 2 and a half hours and I live-streamed the entire thing to entertain others in a facebook group who were also similarly detained... and posted a time-lapse compression of the whole event for others to enjoy! 🤣
    For what its worth I think the step counting method was the right way to go. Jess just got VERY lucky

    3 things, This channel is definitely entertaining to watch, turning the simplest of challenges into something I want to keep watching. Secondly it helped me over 12 months ago to get back into running after a few years off..... And lastly, I love the fact the hosts are normal people, sure an elite athlete could start a channel with crazy workouts beyond the average Joe, but the runs/challenges are what anyone could get out and give them a go. Keep up the good work, always looking forward to the next video.

    I would be interested to see a video where you find a professional 400m, 10k and marathon runner, get the 10k and marathon runner to attempt the 400m runner's PB, then get the 400m and the marathon runner to attempt the 10k runner's PB. (I think making the 400m and 10k runner attempt the marathoner's PB might be a bit cruel 😂and take too long). Because I'm interested to see how much specific event/distance training helps. I obviously think the 400m runner will not hit the 10k runner's PB, and the marathon won't hit the 10k runners PB etc etc, but how close can they get? What is the difference between a 400m, 10k and a marathon runner in terms of biomechanics and fitness levels?

    Pick a distance to run - you can look at the distance throughout the run but as soon as you hit the distance you need to guess your average pace before you look at it. Try to get your guess as close as possible.

    I think you need to do an RPE / Zones Challenge. You have a 10 min warm up followed by 3 lots of 10 minute efforts where you have to step through Zone 2, 3, 4 (easy, moderate, hard RPE) keeping your HR as much in each zone as you can. Goal of the challenge is to see who is more consistent but also to show how good each contestest can judge RPE.

    You should all run a countryside route and not wear any watches or see any clocks. You will find a real winner then .

    I don't care. I was still rooting for Tom! The clicker turned out to be a very good tactic, but there is always variations in stride and speed. Jess used the Big Ben tactic, and even though there were flaws in her tactic (Traffic stops, not running at a consistent pace etc), she trusted her gut and it ended up helping her out in the end.

    I don't really understand, if you run a route that you know and it's 10 km, than this challenge wouldn't be difficult, also without looking at your watch...?

    • @runningchannel
      @runningchannel  2 місяці тому +1

      You can’t use a route you’ve done before!

  • @kirstenhitchins9549

    1) Do the same challenge but altogether on the same track - at your own pace of course. And stop where you think 10km / 5km is. The fun part is that you will then end up trying to gauge your distance from where the others have stopped and re-think it when others run past you etc. Which would be a fun mental game.
    2) Again same challenged but everyone has to run with weights. This will really throw times and paces off.
    3) Run 1km then everyone has to guess the time on how long it took and the person with the closest guesses overall wins.
    4) Everyone has to complete 5km at a certain time (one that is achievable by all) but you aren't allowed to wear watches so you have to guess what pace you are actually running at.
    5) Run a relay race (each person runs 3 loops of a running track each) with the end goal being a certain time. You aren't allowed to wear watches so you have to try and judge how fast they were running and adjust your pace accordingly so the team reaches the end at the correct time.
    6) Everyone leaves the same spot at the same time (an unknown spot to all) and run whatever direction they feel and at random time a buzzer goes off and whoever gets back first wins - but you can't run any direction more than twice. (Stops everyone just running circles / laps).

    You guys should try running normally, instead of running a 10K holding 1 arm out in front the whole time with a camera. I'm sure it would be way faster/easier
