A 5K Race Anyone Can Win
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 чер 2024
- Welcome to the ultimate 5k handicap race. Running Channel presenters Anna, Sarah, Andy and Jess are going head to head across 5k on an even playing field.
The faster you are the longer you have to wait on the start line before setting off, and then it’s a question of how much do you want to win?
Will Andy be able to claw back a sprint finish, or is the handicap enough to give Anna, Sarah or Jess the edge? Keep watching to find out!
With thanks to our friends at dhb for their support making this video.
↓↓ How do you think you’d fare at the handicap race? Do you reckon you could beat The Running Channel presenters? Let us know in the comments! ↓↓

Are your running shoes a fashion statement
Half of my shoes are a fashion statement. I love bright colors.
That was a lot fun, but show us the times! Who exceeded expectations, who guessed closest?
Yes I was waiting for a finish times to appear too and........nothing. come on guys what were they?
Was also waiting for some finish times !!!
Echoing this, want to see the results incl Sarah’s Pb! Also, awesome idea, going to try this out!
Yes, show us the times!
Thats the point of the handicap, to get away from Net Time, and only show handicap race time. So 5K net + handicap time = 60 minutes. The runners finish either slightly faster or slightly slower than 60 minutes. The idea is that in theory, everyone crosses the finish at the same time but slower runners tend to fair better
Great content :-) Enjoyable to watch. You guys did amazing and definitely need a rematch. I'd suggest doing a rematch over the 10K distance. For fun making it a 5K out and 5K back on the same route. You'll pass each other at some point to get a glimpse of where you might be according to the others. Thus give Anna opportunity for redemption. Being an ultrarunner the 10K might be more in her favor.
I really like that idea!
Love the idea!
I really like this idea!!
It looks like you had great fun making this video! I agree with Anna. Let’s see your times and then you can adjust your handicaps for the rematch!
Hey guys! Really great running! Can you disclose all your personal times as compared to the one you all predicted? We really want to know!!
For someone who's allegedly so afraid of being chased, it's hilarious how much Sarah is digging this.
This was brilliant. I don't understand how Sarah can a pb while talking and singing all of the time. Like everyone else I would like to see the times that were run. Everyone looked like they were running far faster than their predicted times apart from Anna played did it properly by sticking to her predicted time!
In the first half you should still be able to do those things. Otherwise you will slow down after that. But there are some individual differences for sure
Sarah is the funniest.
"I spy Anna Harding!"
"I can't run any faster!"
This was a lot of fun!! Awesome stuff!
Well done Jess.
Great effort by everybody even with Andy's sneaky extra floppy handicap. I can relate to Anna. I'd be the last one home because I told the truth about my time. 😉 😇
Sarah just chatting away at the end, not even out of breath, with Andy basically dying...😆
I love all of your videos but I think this is my favorite. The panic in Anna's voice when she hears Andy always cracks me up. 🤣🤣
Love Anna’s never quit attitude, Sarah’s always positive even when it’s not attitude, and Andy’s humility. I totally identified with Jess as she ran. (Haven’t finished the video yet, so I’ve no idea if anyone has caught anyone yet.)
Loved the pre race poses, split screens and drone footage. Great video and great race!
They should definitely do this again, but everyone has to do what Ana did and run to their allocated times, so that the finish will become a perfect sprint finish, and they all finish together!!! Good concept, but they didn’t quite do it properly to get the Hollywood finish!!! 😍😍.
Do it again @runningchannel
What a great way to level the playing field (or track in this case). Brilliant video, as always. Love the banter between you all.
Can’t believe you’re keeping us all hanging with the results! You all did so well, and big up Jess for pushing through and celebrating all the way. Hope I can be that happy doing a 5k in any weather, let alone that weather, some day!
definitely a rematch based on the finish times from this race.
Yep, this is the way to do a proper handicap. Negate the sand baggage.
Love watching you all... Especially when running on the treadmill. Thank you
Great video to watch. Amazing how when given some ‘prey’ to hunt down, some of us are motivated to run much faster than predicted! Well done all four of you. Like some others have commented, more handicap races like this would make for some very entertaining viewing
Loved this challenge. Would have been good to have seen Kate involved, miss her.
I love the team challenges and commentary you each provide.
Great channel!
Handicap races are fun! You all did great. I loved Anna's look over her shoulder saying "I thought I heard him". A Zombie run through the mud at its finest. Wonderful content.
Always so much fun watching your races!
This was unbelievable... Exciting until the end... A great challenge without a doubt... Fantastic race by all... And we need to see a remach soon :D
I love seeing how much sarah's running has progressed since she's started doing trc
You have to do this again.
We do this every month in my running club.
First to pass the finish line get 1.000 point, and for every second you are slover you get 1 point less. At the end of the season point are counted, and a winner is found.
Loved this. We used to do handicap races at my running club, in our local woods. It was fun both chasing and being chased! Well done guys!
I've just come across this video and I felt like I was running right along with everyone. So much fun to watch and inspiring for my own running journey
Fantastic content as ever guys! Thoroughly enjoyed this video and got to give a shout out to however was manning the drone for some brilliant shots 👍🏼
Congratulations Jess on the win 🏆
I think that was my favourite Running Channel vide ever! Thanks for the fun and motivating content as always
OMG I think this was the best challenge so far. I was on the edge of my seat while watching. Kudos to all of you!
A great challenge video. A pleasure to watch and a good training idea! Thanks 😊
Loved this video. And the handicapped race too. Definitely going to give this a shot! Rematch definitely needs to happen. All roads this time!!! Keep up the amazing videos!
love the running channel .. great content .. who’d have thought you could make so many great videos just about running , I’m obsessed
That was fun to watch! Great editing and massive kudos for filming and speaking to the camera while doing an all-out 5k 👍
Excellent, really enjoyed watching that. Thanks
Great motivational video. Loved the nervous energy everyone had from chasing or being chased. You're all winners.
Best video yet! Loved how Jess held it together to stay ahead, Sarah wasn't trying hard enough because she could still sing, Andy was so competitive & flipping quick but best of all was Anna getting stropy! Love you Anna!
I agree. What a fantastic way to give everyone a chance. 😀
Great video! This proves that running can be really fun and not "boring" as some may say 😉 Good job! 😂❤
thoroughly enjoy your videos, thanks very much. Go Anna!!!
What a great video. Keep it up guys. You constantly inspire me to get out there and train!
Keep smashing it guys and gals! 2022 is shaping up nicely on TRC
Fantastic fun - love mud and trails! Well done, Jess! You guys always produce such good videos. That was not an easy course (well played, Andy - would actually love to run this one), so well done all of you!
This was so entertaining - great fun! I love how competitive everyone was as soon as you started 😂 would love to give this a go one day
I forced myself away from the comments until the end, and I'm so glad I kept the suspense!! Congrats everyone! That looks like a great way to get a PB and do some speed work with faster friends! Rematch!! Maybe with hills, or street lights, etc!
Great video and very entertaining! And Sarah with her commentating is hilarious! Love watching these challenges!
loved this one - hunting down each other down - this is how all 5km Park Runs should be :)
Love these videos. They always motivate me yo get out and run!
This was so much fun to watch!! Please make another one!!
Great video thanks, I love how a handicap race makes everybody more competitive!
It certainly brought out the competitive edge in some who we weren't expecting!
I always look forward to these challenges! Go, girls, go!
Excellent video! Loved Sarah's singing throughout!!
This was so much fun to watch! Great job everyone 👏
Got into runing again because of this channel near a year ago and always think of sending a vid of my daily 5k to share some of what SA can show! Keep up the great work!
Fantastic challenge. It reminded me of our clubs 20 minute out and back challenge. Run in one direction for 20 minutes at whatever pace you like then turn a run back to the start, the idea is to get back in exactly 20 minutes, or just under...but no slower!
Great content as ever guys, loved the idea of the race. Would certainly give me the motivation to try and improve my times just so I didn't get caught. I think this would be as useful for the mental aspect of running as it would be the physical aspect
What a fantastic way to race! My wife just picked up running after being diagnosed with lupus. Right now she runs about half the speed that I do, but this will provide a great way for us to compete! Thank you Running Channel!!
Great concept! Captivating video! Love it!!!
😃❤️
Spill the beans and 'fess up! - we are ALL desperate to see the times you all got. This looked even more fun to take part in than it was to watch it, good stuff!
Love chasing someone as it somehow makes you push harder, but being chased is horrible... Love the ideas you give us social group runners! 💡😊
Well done that looked tough especially with all that mud! Great challenge, fun to watch 👏🙌
Great! Now I have the “Catch Anna” song stuck in my head. Thanks a lot, Sarah😜!
Good work guys, looking forward to the rerun 🏃♀️🏃🏃♀️🏃♂️
Great vid! I love these sorts of challenges :)
Love it, well done everyone looked like having it as a race made you all push yourselves. Going to suggest this to my running buds
Love the content of your videos and the fun you insert into friendly competition.
Great idea and good to watch. We'll done guys.
I love the multicam moments! Great editing!
This was so much fun to watch. Brilliant idea for a motivating video for your viewers. The RC has creative ideas and the execution is so entertaining.
That was exciting well done for filming and giving a commentary, looked like great fun.
Great effort everyone! Those type of races make me run faster than I thought I could 🏃🏻♀️
Love that! Great idea and yet another great video and challenge from you all 👍🏻👏🏻
Nice one Martin, thanks for watching.
Love the challenge videos, keep up the good work!
One of my fav videos, and I love all your stuff but this one was so much fun.
Great fun. As ever: a big thank you.
Was doing something similar during the lockdown. A bunch of us would turn up on Southampton Common on Saturday mornings (8:30ish) and, socially distanced, give each other head starts based more on whim than calculation. We usually finished within minutes of each other for a socially distanced chat, before shuffling off to home and isolation. .
As for a challenge: it occurred to me whilst watching the video that you could set up an event between yourselves and inviting other running vlog hosts to race whilst all recording with their Gopro cameras. In the fashion of the famous Monty Python "Whicker Island" sketch.
It might be necessary to script it but, given a lot of thought, I think the idea has potential. For creating utter chaos if nothing else.
Great video guys, loved this one!
Loved this! Sarah: chats, sings, smiles all the way through AND gets a PB! Epic. And big congrats to Jess for the win.
Awesome challenge! Definitely a way to encourage everyone of all levels to run together.
Great race with Interest from beginning to end, would love to see the actual times against predicted times, we all love the numbers!
Fantastic concept! Great video ❤
Hahaha! Had to stop at the 9:50 point and write this - Anna is my conscious thoughts while running, Sarah is my unconscious thoughts.
What an amazing way to do this! Just love their energy. Can we get the final times please?
Great effort everyone! Brilliant challenge, very entertaining to watch :)
Well done guys. Love your challenges.
So much fun. Thanks guys as always. Would love to try and do this with some friends. May set it up and then let you know.
Well done all of you - fun to watch, not sure about participating!!! Definitely a rematch, possibly over a longer distance so Anna can utilise her strengths 👍👍
This journey is so interesting! Thanks!
Great job! I love watching all your challenges, but especially when Andy gets beat!
Very enjoyable to watch, you definitely seemed to be having fun! Muddy but beautiful area, too. It seemed more like a race against yourselves, the way this was set up, cool!
I want to try this with my friends so much! Loving all your different challenge videos
Absolutely love these challenges..good going guys :)
Thanks Abdul, glad you enjoyed it!
I did this with my cross country team. It was a blast. My number two runner was the one to win in the end, but not by much. He barely got my number 6 runner. I really enjoyed watching them push hard to run down, or stay off the other runners.
Really fun video. Handicapped races are always a good laugh because it's all about how close to the predicted time everyone runs and if everyone is close to target they end up really close.
Loved this! Rematch needed for sure!
That was fun to watch. Thanks guys.
I love this idea! Thanks running channel for awesome content!!
That was fun to watch. Really felt for you Anna. I would be hopeless , as I’m so slow🤣
Really enjoying the channel. Only discovered it recently 😊
Great challenge video. Best one yet.
Absolutely great video. What a challenge. Keep up the great content 👏.
Really fun video to watch! I tried handicap reps on speed workouts with a friend once! It was a really good motivation boost for both of us
