I wondered about that. I'm Pouring cement ashtrays that I plan to hydro dip and I thought that base coating with one of the colors first might camouflage where my fingers hold it during dipping. Glad someone else thought to base coat before dipping.
Better way is to have your item in the water first with thin wires attached to it for rotation control then add your paint ( doesn't have to be spray paint I use automotive paint from a can) then pull your item up threw the paint.... This the method I have been doing for 40 years.
I know your comment is really old now (2 years) but, just in case you get notified - I had thought of the same idea but wondered if the paint would stick because the skull/item/object being painted is wet with water - before - it touches the paint. Do you use a special paint to adhere to a wet object?
Making fun of people for the way they speak is kind of classist. But if you think his grammar is a good indicator of his painting abilities thats on you bud
Actually we did that with Lacquer, gently pour in a tub of water and then gently dip the primered motorcycle tank and side covers creating a marbled textured effect. We usually used three primary colors (red-blue-yellow) and a little white. Finally we would mask the area of marbling we wanted to save and spray a base color (like black) and then shoot candy apple colors over the marble base... They hadn't invented dip tank art yet. ;)
This was the first time I tried it, but I've realized now that a base coat helps and warm water gives you better rings. And paint fumes are the least of my worries
OFFICIAL ADAM let me guess? You're dipping a fidget spinner? If so, use oil paints like spray cans, I found purple and black quite cool, and use a twig to stir it around.
Dude I've never seen this done before nor have I done it myself, but my logic tells me that instead of holding the skill from the back end of it u should of held it from its inner under center. As to dip it from the very top of its head so that the runs along the side of its face.
Regular water. The oil based paints floats and the water tension forms around the skull under water. Using metallic paints have flecks that don't stick to the paint. They tend to sink in the water or are in the solvents. Creating those "blank spots" he mentioned. Which is why he was having issues. I used to quick cure my motorcycle parts by painting them as normal. Then place them in a bucket fo water. Within minutes instead of hours. I can put the part back on the bike.
I've found that if you paint a base layer on the skull you get a fuller color and if you go slower and don't chase the paint as hard you get less bubbles and a better dip just me though!
Stacey nave, warm/luke warm water and what kind of spray paint are you using. valspar? knock off paint? and I found out it helps to put primer on the item
Hi I love this I have a silver I guess it's metal pelican sitting on wood with water below it I can't wait to try this this reminds me of water marbling for fingernails with Polish or you can use acrylic paint/craft paints they dry VERY quick in a cup you don't have much time to make a design. HOW quick does that spray paint dry in the water? Thanks in advance and thanks for sharing this is awesome I didn't see where you had any more videos on this am I missing them somewhere?
+Luke Mucha There are several components to doing a pro job. One plan I found which successfully combines these is the Magic Painter Method (google it if you're interested) definately the best course that I've heard of. Check out this super resource.
now that looks good this is like the best diy spray paint job I seen on UA-cam lol most them that isn't professional people try and do what u did and the finished product looks like shit has big bubbles and all nasty looking. lol thanks for sharing this with us I subbed keep up great work and vids. thank you for taking you time to share this with us.
What do you do with the old paint and water when you are finished with it? Not a trick question. I am retired and have some things to dip. Just figured I would be changing colors periodically...
Oil spray paint is getting very hard to get now, as they are taking it off the market and using water based products. The metallic silver paints are made with ground aluminium so it will 'fall out' and you have to keep it mixed to get the paint to cover evenly...anyhoo...great idea but not sure I would use this on a good skull:) Use paper towels to lift out the excess paint that will work better:) Cool idea!!:)
What made you spray paint the raccoon skull a dead raccoon with no Flesh on it just the skull in the bone how did you think that one up that was a good idea sir I never thought of that one
ok... serious question. How in the world do you keep the paint from clumping up?? I've tried water dipping a handful of times over the past week... and everytime I do it, it nearly dries before I can swirl it. you make it look so easy... can you tell me what I'm doing wrong? Is it the water temperature?
+Eviee Sohma If you try this on wood make sure it is painted first, white for the best results. Otherwise the bare wood will soak up water and dry all jacked up.
Would have been good if you showed the actual paint that was used. There are so many different types of spray paints oil based, acrylic, matte, satin, gloss etc
dude i like how it works but after fist one my paint starts to setup before i can run the screwdriver thru paints to blend the look. what might my issue be???
I tried dipping a deer skull with paint and primer combo and I mixed hot and cold water into a pail and for some reason it did not work for me. I believe the reason it did not work is because the water was warmer instead of cold which may be caused my paint to dry fast. I also could not take a pen and make cool lines because the paint stuck to the pen. Any thoughts?
I have a huge. Round it's FLAT It's a pelican sitting on wood. With a round frame around it. It's aluminum. I would love to do a hydro dip. But what could I use BESIDES a wheel barrel?
I did a lot of this in high school and found that metallic paints are pretty hard to work with. matte worked pretty well but i got my best results with satin. different brands worked differently too. also found that the longer you spray the worse the product. I usually didn't spray for more than a second for each ring.
why don't you paint the skull before you dip it? like a base coat? you would probably have to wait for it to dry before dipping but you would not have any bare spots. done something similar with oil paint and paper.
This is old but I have a question, let's say I dipped two stainless steel marbles in all black, if the two marbles continuesly hit each other all the time, what effects with that have on the paint job
One video said to put down a base coat first with one of the desired colors. That way, if you miss a section, you still have some nice paint there.
fenderstratguy thanks for telling me
I wondered about that. I'm Pouring cement ashtrays that I plan to hydro dip and I thought that base coating with one of the colors first might camouflage where my fingers hold it during dipping.

Yes, but if your item floats it's much harder.
It's been like 3 years but in case u get notified... Do u still get bubbles with this method?
"Shooken".
That's all the video that I need to see.
Making fun of people for the way they speak is kind of classist. But if you think his grammar is a good indicator of his painting abilities thats on you bud
@@thisaccountisntreal107 your opinion isn't real.
is classist even a word?

Super cool! Thanks for sharing. You learn through process I suppose.

Luke Mucha what kind of paint is the best to use for plastic
OFFICIAL ADAM let me guess? You're dipping a fidget spinner? If so, use oil paints like spray cans, I found purple and black quite cool, and use a twig to stir it around.

Really neat video
This color is the result of putting cabelas in a blender.
ezekiel burkley exactly

😀awesome sound quality...!
Dude, I'm so glad ❤ I came across your channel! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 im wanting to hydro-dip Hot Wheels.
Awesome! But I want to know if this is just an ordinary water with no chemicals added? Thanks!
water from the hose. nothing added
Luke Mucha Ok Thanks! btw how much time do I need before I pull it up?

Dennis Chaples Call 911 and ask. It's the spray paint dipping help desk.
Dennis Chaples freak
lucas Vance fuck off DEMON EVE
Dennis Chaples I wow
Dennis Chaples hip billy
Very helpful video thanks
Only use oil based paints for no separates
Good job man! That's a great look! I have 8 or 10 cans of Montana Gold here I am gonna try that out this morning.
I've found that if you paint a base layer on the skull you get a fuller color and if you go slower and don't chase the paint as hard you get less bubbles and a better dip just me though!
Wauw! i see some happy clouds right there🙏
I saw this done on plastic model cars 15 years ago, glad its taken off onto other things and not died off
you must spray the paint in a bottle apart and then you pour it in to the bucket in order to not create air bubbles
Stacey nave, warm/luke warm water and what kind of spray paint are you using. valspar? knock off paint? and I found out it helps to put primer on the item

Looks cool thanks for the DIY 😄😄😄😄
thats amazing do you sell your finished products
I just do little projects for the wife
well you should consider it you have an amazing talent
what spray do you use - regular spray dries quickly
I got spray paint but I need some ideas on what to hydro dip
I did my controller face 😂
What kinds of paint are you using?? Waterbase paint, or Quick dry enamel paint?
shops don't do spray paint dipping. they do actual hydro dip. paint dipping is for people who want to do something creative while saving money
+Luke Mucha There are several components to doing a pro job. One plan I found which successfully combines these is the Magic Painter Method (google it if you're interested) definately the best course that I've heard of. Check out this super resource.

u use cold water or warm water?
Does it only work for skulls?
Paint the skull metallic first let dry then do ur hydro dip u won't get bare spots that way never hydro dipped before just seems logical.
Pretty cool!

So you don't need to add anything else to the water, besides the spray paint?
would it stick better if water was hot? or doesn't make a difference?
Yes tried it on an 87 Moto 4. turned out pretty good but always clear coat or use clear flex seal rubber spray
What kind of clear coat
Luke Mucha must the water be warm or cold?
Fantastic video mate I'm going to try this tomorrow I had liked and subbed you my friend 😊😊😊
can you use any kind of spray paint ?
Do you cold, warm or hot water???
Instead of swooshing the water can I dump it out then pull my item out?
you would risk getting smudging the paint on the side or bottom of the bucket or get extra paint on the item
can l get spray paint for hats and do it
Jamirra Bryant not sure
Were all your paints oil based? If they weren't that could explain the separation.
Nice job !
What made you spray paint the raccoon skull a dead raccoon with no Flesh on it just the skull in the bone how did you think that one up that was a good idea sir I never thought of that one
Its a very common thing in Wisconsin to paint, hydro dip, or vinyl wrap European mounts/skulls.

Thank you for this tutorial!
Thank you your tutorial was very helpful!
can you use this method on other things, such as wood, glass or plastic?
plastic and glass not sure about wood but I bet it's possible
Thank you
+Eviee Sohma If you try this on wood make sure it is painted first, white for the best results. Otherwise the bare wood will soak up water and dry all jacked up.
LOL. At 3:52 you can see a little jumping spider looking it him on the lip of the bucket to the left.
ROCKETRY XZACH. no fuckin life
Its was like.. "doing it wrong bro"
Your Bob ross impersonation is spot on
If you tape painters tape on certain parts and dip the object in, will paint leak through the tape?
no scotch tape works
what kind of water do you use?? cold or hot?
Muna Mamasalagat from watching other videos both work. as long as the object has no oils or wax on it your good
Why does my paint start to clump up and set when I start to move it around with the screwdriver??
Can we also dry all the material we hydro dip in a stove for 350 degrees
As long as the material is heat safe then yes you could
Can you paint something in 1 solid color using this method?
yes
Yes but why not spray paint directly onto the item?
+websailor286 that would be a better idea
Ehhhh
what kind of paint should you use.
have you tried any plastic pieces
do you use a star or a straight screwdriver
can yoi do this woth plastic? if so what kind of paint should i use
I know u need oil base paint. Do I need cold or warm water or it don't matter ??
+William Coder luke warm
WOW..Great..
Would have been good if you showed the actual paint that was used. There are so many different types of spray paints oil based, acrylic, matte, satin, gloss etc
after doing it a few times I realized I just had to shake the can a lot more. otherwise metallic would bubble up. so just mix the can well
Do a base coat on the skull first
Crazy cool !
Hi do you not need to use activator one the last layer of paint before dipping the object?
dude i like how it works but after fist one my paint starts to setup before i can run the screwdriver thru paints to blend the look. what might my issue be???
Question is what kind of paint? Acrylic or oil?
Spray paint is typically oil-based.
That is cool!
You're overdoing it mixing the colors in using your screwdriver!
Looks good, it looks like what is called a swirl dip.
I tried dipping a deer skull with paint and primer combo and I mixed hot and cold water into a pail and for some reason it did not work for me. I believe the reason it did not work is because the water was warmer instead of cold which may be caused my paint to dry fast. I’m having the same problem. Did you ever figure out what to do/not to do?
And also if you get notified, can this be done on glass, metal and such material, do reply 🥂
I have a huge. Round it's FLAT It's a pelican sitting on wood. With a round frame around it. It's aluminum. I would love to do a hydro dip. But what could I use BESIDES a wheel barrel?
Do you use warm or cold water I've tried this and after ive sprayed the paint it turns gooey and I cant make a pattern what am I doing wrong
Pretty cool man! Thanks for the Video.
how long did you have to wait to dry and did you prime it before hand? ?
must be the water heated ?
that looked so cool
Cool idea.
I did a lot of this in high school and found that metallic paints are pretty hard to work with. matte worked pretty well but i got my best results with satin. different brands worked differently too. also found that the longer you spray the worse the product. Does it have to be hot water
hello, it`s posible to paint a glass bottle,,,,,,and what should I do next so that the paint doesn't come off?
what r u gonna do with the skulls after
Super Cool. I can't wait to try this with some other materials like stationary cards and picture frames
Kinemaster for the win!! Great job man!! Keep up the awesome work!
why don't you paint the skull before you dip it? like a base coat? you would probably have to wait for it to dry before dipping but you would not have any bare spots. done something similar with oil paint and paper.
how long dose it take to dry
+Liqueur 1 hour it can be handled but its best to leave 24 hrs
cool ty
+Liqueur np
This is old but I have a question, let's say I dipped two stainless steel marbles in all black, if the two marbles continuesly hit each other all the time, what effects with that have on the paint job
Queen Of Cards it will remove the paint
Any kind of paint or enamel?
From what I've seen. Any paint works.
cold or hot or warm
What do you do with the paint/water after?
heavydiezel ; because he ran out of human skulls!
Where are people getting these skulls?
The woods and from what I shoot.
Looks cool
