I really like Big Agnes' Bikepacking series. I've had the Cooper Spur 2 Bikepack for nearly 2 years now and have had about 20 nights in it. For me the biggest selling points are the shortened pole set (just brilliant for packing!) and the extended footprint. Some of the features like the helmet holder and rainfly clothing holder are a little silly, just clever marketing. Also, the stuff/handlebar bag is useless. It's nearly impossible to stuff everything back in that bag in the morning on the trail. Overall, I'm thrilled with my BA Bikepack tent and highly recommend the series. For the same reasons I've mentioned, it's also made an excellent kayak camping for me too. Cheers!
It looks really interesting for longer trips (almost free-standing, side entrance, double doors & vestibules, and small pack volume) and the shorter poleset & earthier color are a great bonus, too!
I've already got the regular version too. Would be awesome if BA offered the bikepack tent poles seperately for those of us who've already got the regular version.

EDIT: I've sent an email to BA asking if there is any way to buy the pole set seperately. Will update with the answer I get. @@lampshade8969 I called Big Agnes about this because I upgraded my old copper spur to a new 2020 copper spur and they do not sell the pole set separately. The 2020 copper spur poles are about 2-3 inches longer than the 2015 version and don't fit as well in bikepacking bags.
I sent an email shortly after the first bike packing tents were released. Their answer was no, and no plans to release the shorter poles separately. Kind of pisses me off; I had just bought a Copper Spur HV 2P tent months earlier. Oh well.

Its a 2 person, but weighs just slightly more than the 1 person versions of fly creek and copper spur. It also weighs about the same as the 1 person MSR hubba bikepack tent.
For reference, was it too short when you were sitting up in the tent or too short in length? What size sleeping pad are you using? I think that might be helpful for others that are your height.
Now that I have tried it, two things: it would be very helpful if the guide lines were adjustible vs pre cut; Very helpful. The other is the zipper on the rainfly jams frequently esp. when wet and right now my rainfly is at BA World HQ being unjammed. The flap over the zipper becomes heavy and sodden due to rain and dew so when you unzip from the inside, the flap is sucked into the zipper because the flap is heavily laying on top of the zipper. A real annoyance

I used the Copper spur HV UL1 in Iceland, and the tent workt perfect, but wind is a real problem for the stability, every day I had to look ad the wind predictions for the night and point the strongest side against the wind...... I had a few nights that I had to hold the poles with the hand to keep it in one piece.... now the Iceland winds are extreme 1 place in a park 30+ backpackers tent 10 tents where complete destroyed or blow away :S.... I had to hold the tent for 2-3 hrs in the heavy winds. Overall the tent workt perfect and I regret that I didn't buy the 2person one.... the few grams makes live on the trip a little easyer to store my stuff more in the tent. The lengt of the poles made me buy this tent.... they realy fit nice in my ortlieb sport paniers this way :)
I am heading on a bike packing trip to Iceland in a few months. Would you recommend a more robust tent than the copper spur? I just bought the tiger wall but now I am regretting it as I think it will struggle with The Icelandic winds
@@MrSlippersandpipe well after 2 years more traveling with this tent I think Icelands winds are of the extreme side and not realy comparable with the avarage tent spot. And on most campgrounds in iceland you can pick a tent spot with a bush or so to hide behind, but in the Highlands there is lot of open space but if you look careful in the evening there are spots to find with shelter from the wind behind a hill or a place with rocks and build a small wall around you tent. My next tent will be like this one again and then a 2 person one and I think a 2 person is also a bit beter against the wind because its a bit wider, the 1 person are a bit narow and the wind can push them flat if it hits from the side
great review. I use bike camping shelter for most of the non winter months here in sw montana., I admire the quality and care for details of these UL tents. UL also means fairly fragile w/ regular use. this is the one tent I've been tempted to purchase, till I see the price. I use 25 year old BD mini & mega mids, single pole, 4 to 8 stakes, with a $10 bug net hanging inside if needed. this is a more complex tent (with great features) - for me its takes great care setting it in cold, frost, rain,.careful with the zippers snagging thin fabrics.etc. I'd

Hmmm, now I can't decide if I want the bike packing version or the regular one... Are the shorter pole sections and handlebar bag worth the extra $? I would also be taking it backpacking, so the bike bag won't do me much good there, but I like the extra loops and storage.
@DJ Ness probably. I got the bikepacking one too and think it’s great. When I’m backpacking I put it in a different stuff sack. The handlebar bag with loops is handy too. I strap it on the front of my handlebar bag.
Looks supersweet, you can buy too small. I learned the hard way and picked up a sweet Nordisk Telemark ULW mainly due to the pack size. I reality it wasnt worth it as i ended up in hotels and Ins 12 out of 14 nights on my annual summertrip as the tent was simply too small and too hot.
Both have two door systems but the Copper Spur has a four pole system vs. the Tiger Wall 3 pole system. The Copper Spur has a bit more room to it but it is also slightly heavier. If you always camp in windy conditions, having a 4 pole system is really nice, but like the video showed, the Tiger Wall held up just fine in high winds. I'm a a big fan of this Tiger Wall and it's lighter, so thats what I would choose.
Hate those automatic renewal contracts too. $68 a year is pretty pricey too, maybe they could make it more affordable and climate friendly if they made the journal downloadable, and people could buy the print if they want it.
Ok, I was about to buy a MSR Hubba Hubba, then a Nemo Dragonfly Bikepack 2.. and Now? Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL2? Its fab.... I am so confused. Neil? What tent? I am leaving in 3 weeks for a 3 week trip.

The socks in the video are Swiftwick, I think they are the best summer sock out there, good compression and they have some solid styles. I've been using them for years.

No, it does not. It's an additional $80 USD. I didn't use it for a handful of trips and never had any issues with moisture entering the tent, but I assume it would be a good idea to use it for the longterm durability.
It depends, I found that it certainly keeps heat in if the fly is on, which is good for colder nights However, you don't need to put the fly on at night, which I did on really warm nights that were rain free, that kept it nice and cool.

Once upon a time tents, sleeping nags and other camping items did not cost an arm a leg or in some cases both the arm and the leg. A 450$ price point is ridiculous! How about doing gear reviews with stuff all riders can afford. Please stop catering to those that have more dollars than sense!

Great review! I tried this tent, but at 6'-2" it was a little short. The short tent segments easily fit between my bike's drop bars.

I have the Copper Spur 2 version and it has a flap vent on the fly to help prevent moisture.

HA-HA, they are the Pearl Izumi X-Alp Launch SPDs, winter halted my testing of them but I should have some thoughts in the coming weeks.

You could just cut a piece of polycryo to size. Lighter and cheaper. That's what I did.

It is frustrating, a good cheap alternative is Tyvek.
