    John, the biggest thing the Big 12 needs is a conference network. The Big 10 Network gives a decent floor for viewship of subprime conference matchups. They can average over 600k viewers per matchup on BTN. A Big 12 Network would grow the conference. Unfortunately, the Longhorns damaged the conference for years with their Longhorn Network.

    • @fwilliamcony28

      I agree and have argued that point for some time. The Big XII cannot depend on streaming via ESPN+ for pay as its conference network. When you look at viewership, the games that are streamed for pay do not even appear on the radar. If the Big XII plays on network TV, regular ESPN or FOX, the viewership is very good. I receive the BIG, SEC and ACC Conference Networks as part of my cable package.

      @@fwilliamcony28 Absolutely, Big Ten Network was such a success back in the day. Conference networks give a decent viewship floor to tier 3 games. Big 12 is the only power conference without one. Fox/ESPN would be happy to create it. I hope Big 12 gets equity in it like the Big 10 did.

      @@atgdcommish608 actually incorrect. Game attendance is down at all but the bigger schools. It is consolidation. Just look at the unwanted refugees from the Pac 10/12 (Standford, Cal, Oregon State and Washington State). From the vantage of someone who only follows the top 10 everything is great. And If your team isn't successful member of Big 10 or SEC your future isn't certain.

    The settlement is going to create more parity within college athletics. Big Ten and SEC schools will be more competitive within their own conferences. I think that this 22 million number is fine for the Big 12. Some ACC schools may struggle because of their media deal. Big 12 will compete at a higher level with a salary cap, than with no restrictions to NIL.

    I can't help but wonder what the NIL budget is for SMU?? For a program that can afford to forgo TV revenue to just join the ACC makes me wonder just how MUCH money SMU has, especially for a private school. 🤔

    I don't the Big 12 wants ACC schools, but will take them if the ACC folds. It make sense to have four conferences playing on an equal playing field. The Big 12 adding ACC schools only helps if Fox Sports or ESPN is will to pay more to their TV deal.

    The Big 12 needs 24 teams with an East, Central and West divisions. Add WSU & Oregon St to have 8 teams in the West. Add A few to the east and of course the central would be Kansas, KSU, ISU et al....

    • @rnemtp5350
      @rnemtp5350 15 днів тому

      An odd number of divisions doesn't make sense. Better to have four 6 team pods. A schedule could include the 5 pod opponents, 2 from the neighboring pod and one each from the other two. Starting the season a weak earlier, could end it a week earlier to accommodate a 4 team playoff of pod Champs. If NCAA talks at an additional game for 4 schools, shorten the season to 11 games. Eliminate the tradition of playing FCS patties. Play one P4 and one G5, and a 9 game conference slate.

    College football is not dying. Teams are shifting to the money. Unfortunately the ACC and big12 made bad deals and found there selves on the outside look in. However the ACC was able to pay each member 45 million and in a better position to poach the big12, with the current footprint. The next 2 years will tell. Fs have not found a way out the goes and been trying 5 years. Need to just pay 500 million, which is the only way out.

  • @atgdcommish608
    @atgdcommish608 17 днів тому +4

    Why would the ACC schools want to join the Big12 though? It's basically the same level conference with the same money, but with much worse travel. And the ACC exit fees are enormous. Only a school with a sure invitation to the SEC or Big10 would even think about leaving the ACC. And the league won't collapse, since only Florida State and Clemson have much chance of getting a Power2 invite and the money to pay the exit fees. In which case the ACC would just pick up 2 of the better G5 teams in the East.

      When is 2030 AM. 1) When using a 24 hour clock, AM & PM are not used. 2) When using a 12 hr. clock, there is no "20" hrs. So it's difficult to tell if you mean 8:30 PM or AM. in a conference with 4 time zones, a context of time zone could narrow it down some as well.

    Why would the best teams in the ACC want to be in the Big XII?
    It is a lesser league and it would involved a heck of a lot more travel.
    It makes no sense.

    • @rnemtp5350
      @rnemtp5350 15 днів тому +1

      For starters, the Big 12 doesn't try to shackle their teams with indentured servitude 2 decades down the road(actually 18th century indentured servants were obligated for fewer years than ACC teams), when adding teams, they pick schools whose ticket buying audience exceeds the size of the band( check an ariel view of the attendance at a UCAL football game), and they don't have a dysfunctional arrangement with an independent school hoping they will join their indentured service to the ACC for football when they get basketball membership rent free(a similar arrangement helped dissolve the Big East football conference). So agreed I didn't site reasons for joining the Big 12 but for leaving the ACC. But if the Big 12 gets a surplus of revenue from Allstate or CVC, they begin to look as attractive as the B1G or SEC. Similar paycheck as those two conferences and a perceived clearer path to a conference championship begins to look attractive. Want a $60 million payout to compete against Utah and Kansas State for a conference title, or $60 mil to compete against Alabama and Georgia for a conference title?

      The Big 12 is destined to be the kiddie table even if the ACC folds. This is why I laugh when Big 12 fans get angry because Utah is not rah rah Big 12. It's the kiddie table and we're all getting left behind at this point. You should want better for your schools even if it is seemingly unrealistic.

      The Big12 has been gutted, with the loss of Oklahoma and Texas. The best returning team is.... Arizona? They were hardly ever a contender in the Pac12, until catching lightning in a bottle last season. The ACC still has Florida State and Clemson, for now at least. If a salary cap exists, and the NCAA has enforcement power through this settlement, I don't see why most Big 12 schools can't compete and sign 4-5 star players. Ohio State and Georgia can't pay for every 5 star if a salary cap exists.
